I really, really liked this place. Friday night in Wilmington for dinner and a show -- Mikimotos was perfect. The layout is great. An Asian-modern feel, kinda happening, makes you feel part of "the scene" and not just any restaurant. I got the same thing I always get whenever I'm eating Japanese: seaweed salad and some sushi. Everything was fine. I give it a four-out-of-five only because, well, I'm in my 60s, I've eaten a lot of sushi, and when it comes to Mikimotos ... the nigiri, not the biggest pieces I've ever had, which is a shame because it was quite good. The seaweed salad could have been drained a little better, a bit on the briney side, but eat up! Seaweed salad is a superfood. Beautiful selection of sakis. I picked something light and cold, on the sweeter side, of which I did consume a lot. I had a fine time at Mikimotos. Price point? Ummm ... not cheap, but nothing ever is these days. I can't think of any reason not to recommend Mikimotos. (But perhaps a word of caution. Wilmington can feel a little sketchy to the out-of-towner, and there is a public park two blocks away that I found a bit harrowing to walk through. The inhabitants of said park were eager to engage, so steer clear and keep your wits about you.) read more

I tried the Wilmington Roll, sushi taco, and the Mikimoto, and each dish was a delight! Crab Rangoon & Bang Bang Shrimp starters. Creamy crab in large fried pockets w/ classic sweet dipping sauce (actually prefer the more delicate wontons found at mom & pop Chinese stores). Shrimp, generous portion & crispy-fried, peppered & served w/ spicy aioli. We shoveled them in! Excellent! Chicken Thai Drunken Noodles- familiar chew of rice noodle, julienned veggies, chili, sweet & spicy sauce. Mongolian Beef- savory, salty, hoisin, strips of flank steak, peppers/onions/green onions- delish! Little wait on giant barge of sushi, to include - Mikimoto, Rainbow, New Orleans Shrimp, California...but well worth having patience. My wife and I live a short walk from Mikimoto's, but we don't go there much. The sushi is okay but not worth the price they charge. Every now and then, though, we have a hankering for sushi. Still, we won't be going back after this weekend. This past Friday we went late, getting there a little after 8:00. It was fairly crowded, but we got a table right away. Then we sat. 15 minutes later, a waiter gave us water and took drink orders. 15 minutes after that, he returned with our wine and took our food order. It was 8:33 according to the check. I had ordered a cabernet sauvignon, which should be dry, but it was disgustingly sweet. I did something I don't think I've ever done before. I returned the wine. It wasn't corked or anything like that. It was just crappy wine. Close to 9:00, my wife's miso soup arrived. We asked for the manager, and the young woman who showed up was very professional. She promised to comp a small portion of our meal since we had waited an hour and still had no food, but my wife really wanted the whole thing comped by then. The manager said she couldn't do any better but offered to get the general manager who was at another restaurant. The rest of the food came about 9:10, with the tuna tataki appetizer and seaweed salad arriving *after* the main meal. Meanwhile, the couple at the next table who had sat down just before we placed our order were finishing up their meal. We were just starting to eat when the GM showed up. She identified herself as "Irelyn" and started by copping an attitude. I let my wife do the arguing so it wasn't like we were ganging up. Nonetheless, Irelyn let the argument escalate right there in the dining room--very unprofessional. She said she doubted we had been there an hour and accused us of exaggerating or worse. She directly accused my wife of coming to the restaurant just to cause trouble. Really. The GM of a restaurant did that. We had been told that they had booked a large party that night and were having trouble dealing with it. When my wife brought that up, Irelyn said that "no one else was complaining" as though that had some bearing on our situation. She also said that they had their normal staff size on so there should have been no problem. Why a GM wouldn't bring in extra staff when they've booked a large party is beyond my comprehension. There had been lengthy periods when we could find no staff in our part of the restaurant, including when we wanted to pay and get out of there. In the end, they did comp us for a couple of items. I had ordered two sushi rolls, and they comped us for the cheaper one, which was petty. No matter, our evening was ruined by this miserable meal and made worse by the dazzling unprofessionalism of Irelyn. As for the other manager and the waiter. They were doing their best on what apparently was a pretty bad night. Their boss should look to them for guidance on proper behavior when customers have a legitimate complaint. Despite the convenient location, Mikmotos is too mediocre to entice us back--particularly after this incident. read more

We haven't been here for awhile. We currently have 3 sushi places on our rotation, but this is our go-to when we want the best sushi or to celebrate something. We sat at the bar and Greta was fantastic. We ordered the Crab Salad, crab stick with seaweed and spicy mayo, Bang Bang shrimp, crispy shrimp with sriracha aioli, Double Fantasy which is lobster tempura, king crab, pepper tuna, and cajun white tuna, and the Hairy Mexican which is fried shrimp, avocado, spicy mayo and crabstick. Everything was on point, we can always depend on Mikimotos. The Asian Pear is my favorite. We weren't considering dessert until Greta convinced us to try the Tempura Brownie Sundae and it was phenomenal. So good that the people sitting next to us ordered it as well. read more

We had a 5 pm reservation and the place was not crowded when we arrived at 10 after. We ordered drinks which took a little while but not a big deal. I ordered a gin drink with lemon from their menu but asked them to use vodka and it was very refreshing! We ordered an appetizer- crab Rangoon which was really good with the red dipping sauce. We then ordered three sushi rolls to split. The first two came out at least 30 or 40 min later, so 6:15ish. The waiter said they made the wrong roll but he wanted to bring us something while they remade it. The Philly roll was tiny, probably the tiniest sushi roll I've ever seen. There were only 6 pieces also which we were a little shocked. The other roll was so-so. It had cooked fish and tempura on the outside. I ordered a glass of wine which was standard. The dinner took a while, and the service was a little slow considering we were probably one of the first reservations. Compared to other times we have eaten there, this experience left us questioning if we should go somewhere else next time for sushi. Also, it was very cold sitting by the front window. The waiter said the temp was set to 67 and he turned it up for us. Why would they keep it freezing on a cold night? They need to evaluate the guest experience. read more

We used to come here for lunch in the early 2000s and it was the BEST sushi place EVER!! Today 2 decades later and not so much. A couple of my colleagues and I went for lunch and the service was so slow. Friendly staff, but so slow. We had to take our lunch to go. The appetizer bang bang shrimp was delish and my mikimoto sushi roll was okay, but by no means worth $19 bucks!! My colleagues joked they gave me the child portion. Food was so-so. The eggplant dish was oily and overly sweet. Sushi was average. I got the mushroom dish which was tasty, but a very small portion. Expensive. Rice is extra and also relatively expensive. My wife's dish came out about 30 minutes after everyone else's main. They did credit her meal, but it was a disappointing experience and a waste of time. It's been a while since I've updated my Mikimotos review! Mikimotos is still one of my favorite sushi spots in Delaware and one of those restaurants that no matter what you order, it's going to be absolutely delicious. They have a long list of creative specialty rolls, my favorites being the Tropicana roll, Firecracker roll, and Crystal palace roll. However, you also can't beat their appetizers and hot dishes...my family loves the duck quesadillas and the baby octopus appetizers! We love dining in; the service is quick and professional, and the restaurant has a modern, relaxing ambiance. We usually make a reservation on weekends because it gets pretty busy. The only reason that this is a 4-star review is that their takeout service is consistently a mess. The wait times are insanely long, and the wait is always longer than what you're told it will be on the phone. In addition, there have been countless times that they've forgotten items in our order...even after we've asked if the order has been double checked. This past weekend, we ordered takeout on a Friday evening and were told it would take an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes to prepare because it was a large order. However, it took two hours, and it appeared that they were filling smaller orders before our order. They did give us a gift card to make up for the inconvenience, which was a very nice gesture. My family has agreed we'll probably avoid getting takeout from here in the future as it never seems to go smoothly, but I'd still recommend dining in! read more

We've been coming for years and recommending this place to friends and family forever. It used to be the best sushi and asian cuisine in the tristate area, but unfortunately that's no longer the case. Many of the menu items that are listed on their website are no longer available in the restaurant. The staff is clueless, disconnected, and unfriendly. I took a large group there for my birthday, and our experience was appalling. Our food was served ass-backwards. They served half of the group their hot entrees, and the rest of us had to wait for over 30 minutes to receive our sushi! When I informed the waitress of this, there was no apology or any attempt to right the situation. Sadly, we will never go back to Mikimotos or recommend it to others. I wanted to finally drive through downtown Wilmington as Ive always just seen the buildings from the I95. I found Mikimotos on Yelp awhile ago and it was on my radar. Didn't know what to expect when walking in. The lobster appetizer and calamari appetizer were both very good. Hairy Mexican, Chesapeake, Brad, Miami Heat rolls all delicious! But we also got a free roll before those, that was our favorite! The server assistant goofed and brought it to our table and we touched it before we realized it was meant for the next table. It may have been Red Army roll. The server, hostesses and atmosphere all excellent. They have a parking lot. It doesn't surprise me that it's such a good restaurant when I realized it's part of the "Big Fish Restaurant Group" that has Salt Air in Rehoboth Beach. They know what they are doing. read more

I was in the mood for sushi, and remembered Mikimotos!!! It had been quite a while since our last visit and was curious to see what was new. We got great street parking right in front of the restaurant and walked right to be seated with no waiting. Cozy atmosphere with a nice sushi bar situated in the middle of the dining area. Large TVs were strategically place for good viewing from any angle. Our waiter was friendly and gave us time to view the menu. We started with the Crispy Thai Brussels. I'll say they were good, not great in my opinion. They were tossed in a citrus vinaigrette and toasted garlic which I felt left a bitter taste. I believe bacon would have added the sweet salty taste needed to counter the bitter, but that's just me. For entree's- I got the California Sushi rolls and the hubby got the Teriyaki chicken we added some Shrimp Fried Rice to share. The rice and sushi were both very tasty and flavorful. The sushi was so fresh - it melted in my mouth. My hubby felt the Teriyaki chicken could have been more flavorful- he felt the dish needed more teriyaki. Overall our service was great. I only came for a brief Happy Hour and we got Serihana- Flower of Serenity hand poured at our table as well as the Miki Thai both drinks had excellent presentation and enjoyability. The next time I come I plan to get the General Tso's Drunken Chicken and or the Korean BBQ Ribs because they caught my eye from across the room! I'LL be back sooner than later, for sure! read more
