    Tonkotsu Miso Ramen
    Andy T.

Was feeling a bit under the weather, so I knew a meal with broth was going to be ideal to get me back on my feet. I placed a take out order with Rakuten Ramen for pick up in the evening on a weekday. When I came to pick up, the store wasn't busy. This store seems to have a drive thru lane which wasn't busy as well. There were plenty of parking spaces available. The pickup process was seamless. My order was ready and packaged. There was a separate container that kept the broth away from the other ingredients. They did forget to include utensils. Tonkotsu Miso Ramen - This was ordered with level 3 spiciness and definitely had the kick I needed. The order included everything from chashu, green onions to soft boiled egg, bean sprouts, corn, etc. The portion size was big. Kaarage - This was not crispy as expected and was soft. Despite that, it was very juicy and delicious! Overall, it was decent!

We haven't eaten inside Rakuten, just gotten take out through their drive thru. The inside is unassuming and is kind of small, but it can accommodate single diners and large groups if necessary. Service was decent, only one server was working the tables, so understandably they couldn't come around to check on us as often. We ordered the seafood ramen, popcorn ramen (chicken karaage), pork bao, and a royal milk tea. Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend the milk tea, it tasted off and very unlike others I've had. For the ramen, we were able to choose our level of spice (4 for the popcorn ramen, 2 for the seafood ramen). The 4 was just at the precipice of needing water after every spoonful, and the 2 was fine, just in case our kid asked to try some. I would recommend both seafood and popcorn ramens; the shrimp in the seafood ramen were GIGANTIC, although a bit overcooked, and there was an ample amount of clams and scallops. The chicken karaage was well seasoned. The noodles were cooked perfectly, and I enjoyed them for lunch the next day. Definitely stop by to try out their signature ramen!

I have placed orders with this place. Many times and I have been there many times and I've never had a problem until today. I didn't all in order. It was picked up and dropped off of my house. That went quite well but my Food had a bug inside. I will post pictures.

I always come here for ramens. They got ramen with flavorful broth and tasty noodles. Friendly service and good portions. Good vibe also!

Came in for a quick Friday night dinner, service was excellent. The teriyaki chicken salad I got was so good and everything was very fresh. Definitely worth it price wise, I'm interested as to how a drive thru works here but look forward to trying it out.

I ordered the new beef ramen and it was really tasty! Great service and the wait was not long at all. Highly recommend visiting this establishment for some yummy ramen. 10/24/25 update because this place charged an additional tip for themselves. If you leave a tip, please check your bank acct a couple days later to check the accuracy. Very disappointing. This was reported to my bank.

My daughter's favorite ramen place. This is our go to ramen place in our area coz of the selection. We love the tonkotsu and miso ramen and love that the chashu melts in your mouth. We went for lunch and they have a lunch special with ramen, gyoza and salad. Very affordable - probably coz lots of college students in the area. Also... they have a drive thru! Try them out when you are near Azusa!

First time coming to this place and it was amazing! My husband and I were craving something warm on this cold rainy day and this ramen was the best!! We both ordered the Rakuten 88 level 4 and 5 of spicy. We will definitely be back!

Friendly staff, food arrived fast and hot. Service was lacking a bit. Tonkatsu miso ramen was a bit salty, had to ask for more broth to tone it down. The karaage chicken was delicious, crunchy. The katsu rice bowl was a good portion.

The shop is traditional Japanese ramen eatery theme with some hint of famous anime from menu to some decors. Waitress is really friendly and speedy. Spicy garlic chashu bowl is rice with a layer of thinly sliced chashu pork added with some spicy garlic sauce. It's just okay. A bit too salty and spicy. Naruto buns is Taiwanese guabao with Chashu pork with mayonnaise (Japanese type). It's good. Karaage curry is Japanese fried chicken with spicy Japanese curry. It's really good in my opinion. We were seated in a cozy booth and our server took our drink orders. Pop music from the 90s/2000s blasted from the speakers but it created a fun ambiance! We ordered hot sake, Sapporo beer, chicken karaage, gyoza, yellowtail carpaccio, a chicken teriyaki bento box, tonkatsu ramen, and two different rolls (Baja and Bomb Diggity). Everything came out paced well and our server was awesome. We never went without and we were checked on plenty of times. Food was fantastic - the yellowtail tasted so fresh and the sushi rolls were "bomb diggity"!! Everyone enjoyed their meals and I wouldn't hesitate to return to try different items from their menu. There is literally something for everyone but the menu also isn't overwhelming. Parking was easy and plentiful on a Sunday afternoon. This was a 5-star meal for sure.

I almost didn't want to leave a review because the service was great but I do kind of have to share…read moremy experience because it was pretty unacceptable. Firstly, I do want to thank the staff here, they were incredibly courteous, polite, professional, kind and communicative with us. This kind of service is rare these days and while my experience was made a lot better because of their empathetic response, I still think the quality of food needs attention. To start, this spot is at a convenient location - right next to Regal theaters, plenty of parking nearby and none of that street parking metered crap. Definitely a plus. Prices are not cheap, rolls run you about $18 and the size was pretty small. We got a protein roll and a dragon roll as the menu indicates you buy one get one half off. Dragon roll was the skinniest, tiniest, most petite roll I've ever seen in my life and just felt like they cheaped out on it, which is kind of crazy since it's basically just a California roll... imitation crab is insanely cheap, it's not even real crab. Anyway... I ordered a Tonkotsu Ramen, plain - only egg & protein and when it was served to us, all I saw was a puddle of grease on top. For those who are unaware, Tonkotsu literally translates to pork bones, so while it is definitely a hearty/fatty broth, it shouldn't have a visibly separated layer of grease on top. You know when you reheat fettuccini alfredo and the oil separates in the microwave? It looked like that. I've tried various tonkotsu ramens - some better than others btw feel free to DM me for suggestions although the locations are not in close range - but none have had that visible grease layer. To be honest, I'm not really one to send things back, although I have picked up on the habit of not accepting crap food lately, so I didn't really mention anything to the waiter regarding the ramen. I slurped my noodles, ate my egg and chashu - both were OK. The chashu was seared and hard to eat, not the usual melt-in-your-mouth deal, and left the bland, greasy broth behind. Sucks because my favorite part of ramen is, of course, the broth. That's really the whole point. Moving on... I noticed my friend stopped eating her protein roll so I was like what's up? She looked at me a little worried and said she thought the salmon was off. I scrunched my face and was like dammit now I have to try this to make sure. Smell was not off, but took a bite of the salmon and that thing was bitter. We told the waiter and he was apologetic and said he'd talk to the kitchen. They said the fish came in yesterday and while I believe them, and could easily blame the heat we've been dealing with recently, we still felt unsafe finishing the food. I appreciate them showing concern for the issue with the food and no reports of food poisoning so far - been like two days now so I'm sure we're fine. Brings me to our total of about $50. Damn. I know sushi and ramen aren't typically cheap items but the quality was nowhere near standard and unfortunately this experience was enough to dissuade me from coming back. I don't want to nitpick, but I just like giving peeps details on certain things so their experience may not come as a surprise, but the general atmosphere of this spot was also a bit... different. They were playing loud music, I recall hearing 500 Miles by the Proclaimers super loud and I was kind of like dang man it feels like I'm right in the heart of Tokyo... /s There are much, much, much better spots for ramen and for sushi, there is literally an actual Japanese restaurant right across the street from Kopan and I'd bet money you'd get way better food for more or less the same price there. Also Burger Bun is in the same plaza, place is also fire, I'll drop that review separately. TL;DR: food bad, expensive, fish off, service good, decent parking, convenient location

Staff is lovely and greets you with a smile. Plenty of seating to relax with nice, relaxing lighting. We tried the popcorn chicken, rose milk tea w/ boba, and the donburi rice bowl. Popcorn Chicken: 4.5/5 The chicken was nice and crispy, but not too hard to chew. Great amount of seasoning and pretty big portion in my opinion. Filling on its own. The only complaint is we asked for mild and got a pretty spicy flavor which made it a bit hard to enjoy. Would love to know if this was truly their mild or if it was mistaken. Rose Milk Tea: 5/5 My absolute favorite choice from today was the rose milk tea with boba. It had a nice floral tone and the proper tea to milk ratio. Not too sweet and the warm boba complimented the drink so nicely. Would absolutely recommend coming to try this out. Donburi Beef Rice Bowl: 4/5 While an extremely flavorful entree, the portion size of the beef was lacking. The egg is a really nice touch and mixes well with the savory beef, however, it is not enough to compensate for the little amount of beef. It leaves you wanting more and you're left with a lot of rice. For the price, I'd expect just even a tiny bit more beef. Overall though, solid entree with lots of savory flavors. Would absolutely recommend if you're in the area and you're looking for a nice milk tea spot that also offers food. They offer student discount if you're attending the nearby schools which is pretty cool. Come support!
