After my first experience at Milano Nail Salon, I would NOT go back nor would I recommend it to others. My friend and I went for mani/pedis for her birthday, and we were excited to try this salon due to its positive Google reviews. However, now, we know they offer $5 vouchers for 5 star Google reviews; this is not only disingenuous, but upsetting. The nail techs tried many times to get us to purchase the more expensive gel polish, despite the fact that we kept declining. Our pedicures were relatively quick, even though we scheduled spa pedicure appointments - I would say they were basic, maybe slightly elevated. We also got basic manicures which felt rushed. My nail tech left some cuts on my cuticles and brushed past them like they weren't there, and I felt as though the establishment as a whole was a bit dirty. To top it off, our two basic mani/pedis + tip cost $225, which felt like an overcharge. As we left, the nail techs even pressured us into paying with Venmo, and then seemed dissatisfied with the tip we left (which was more than generous for the service we received). Let me start by saying I do not usually write reviews for anything, much less a negative one. However, I feel the need to let others know how this particular business operates. I have been taking my daughters to get their nails done for years. Two days ago my 18-year-old daughter decided she was going to get her nails done on her own for the first time. Not only did they over charge her ($90 for basic manicure & pedicure) , but the guy doing her nails cut her several times on her fingers and toes. Her toe is now infected. He also had the audacity to look at her with dismay when she only tipped him $5. This is not good business and I will be sure to recommend others avoid this establishment. read more

This nail salon consistently books appointments and runs an average of an hour late. I have never waited less than 45 minute for my booked appointment. I consistently ask "how much longer" and it's always 5 minutes and that is never accurate. Just be honest and say longer so i can leave. Staff is rude. read more

If you are a uconn student looking to get your nails done and want a close to campus option, DON'T come here. I made an appointment for 5pm, short on time as many college students are, arrived 10 mins early and sat to wait my turn. At 5:20 3 other college girls came, also having an appointment at 5:00 (mind you, including us 4 who were waiting, there were 12 customers in the store and 5 employees). At 5:30 the owner told the girls that they were not ready for them and it would be a 40 minute wait. She tried to convince them to stay or come tomorrow and they left. As more people came, she continued to sit them and make them wait. At one point the ratio was 14 customers to 4 employees. She came to me at 5:30 and told me that I would have to wait until someone became available, but then sat next to me and began doing someone else's nails who came after me. I asked her what the procedure was with actually being able to be helped and she said only one person could do fills, and she would help me once's done with the pedicure she just began, did another persons fill, then could do mine. I explained that I had a 5:00 appointment and I had to be back on campus at 7:00 for work and she tried to promise me that the lady could do 2 fills and a pedicure in the 1h I told her I had. I ended up leaving, wasting one hour of my time and not getting my nails done, leaving me in a pinch as I am leaving for a trip in less than 48 hours. It felt like I was expected to wait rather than have my appointment honored. They overbook and tell you to wait. Many people do not have time to just sit for over an hour on end waiting to hopefully be seen before they close. I am typically not one to complain but this was some of the worst service that I have received from an appointment based salon. To the management: please do not overbook, as it makes both of our lives harder. To potential clients and uconn students: don't go here. read more

I don't wanna leave a one star review because the friend I came in with got a really nice set. My nail tech rushed through the process, she filed my cuticles to the point that they were bleeding. I asked her to shape them coffin, and they are definitely not that shape. I also asked her to cut down the length multiple times and she did not. The acrylic powder isn't applied evenly or even to the edge of the nail. The polish is sloppy and there are little bubbles and black dots in the polish. And she filed the edges off which made it really rough so I keep scratching myself. It has been roughly 24 hours since I got them done and it looks as though they've been on my nails for a week and a half. There's a centimeter gap between the acrylic and the cuticle. Very disappointed. Not worth $60. Won't be going back. read more

My mom and I went to get pedicures. We both left with cuts on our toes, feet, and ankles. The woman doing my mother's pedicure cut my mother's toe, causing it to bleed uncontrollably for approximately 15 minutes. It was to the point that the woman could not complete the pedicure. She also put multiple "ointments" on my mother's toe, in an attempt to stop the bleeding, none of which worked - and not only did she not ask of she could put these ointments on, she didn't let us know what they were. We had to ask for a band aid, and they had to scurry around to find one. The man doing my pedicure scraped the skin off my ankle, drawing blood. He didn't acknowledge that he cut me until i said something. He then said, "Sorry" and carried on. He also cut my toe while using the cuticle clippers, incessantly digging at my toe. My toe is still hurting a day later. When we went to pay, i had to ask if they were going to charge for my mother's (whose they couldnt finish due to the bleeding). They looked at each other as though i were asking for something outlandish. They agreed to let her pay the following day when she returned for them to paint her toes. They also overcharged me. I have gone here 3 times now. The first time I got my face waxed and gel nails. This time was alright and the waxing was done well and a soothing gel was put on at the end and I was very happy I did not break out or anything after that! Although, the gel polish peeled off 2 days later, so that was a waste of money, I have better gel polishes at home! The second time I went for a waxing, my brows were over waxed and the tech put Vaseline on my skin after, which I have never heard of and I broke out like crazy! I decided to give it one more chance thinking maybe the second waxing was just a random occurrence. So, I went the other day and during that appt the tech just applied wax to my face without cleaning my face! I was disgusted! So clearly, the wax pot has all types of germs brewing in it if they're not cleaning skin and who knows if they use new sticks each time! On top of that, the tech rewaxed certain areas causing redness and pain and also since my skin was oily from not being cleaned, I still have hairs that didn't come off and then at the end they applied mineral oil and my face had tons of wax left on it and pieces of the wax fabric strips. My face is now so raw and breaking out and irritated so needless to say won't be going back! I do not recommend waxing here or gel polish, I am confused how this location has such high reviews because I didn't find it to be very clean or impressive! read more

He did both of ours in only an hour, which I thought was impressive because they were short staffed and the place was so crowded. I've been a student at UConn for the past three years. I'm from New York, and I don't trust too many people with my manicures and pedicures. I found this place in the spring of this year, and I seen the care that they took into giving you a pedicure and manicure. It was pretty similar to the way I get it done back at home, so I felt good about coming here if I need a quick pedi or gel mani or fill-in and I'm not going back home any time soon. The service is all very nice. However, the prices aren't. A gel mani is $15 more than I would pay for it back at home, and a regular mani or a design on two fingers is twice the amount. This was my first and definitely my last experience at this salon. I came with my two sisters and my mom, and we booked an appointment a couple days ahead of time for 2pm. I was not even seated in a massage chair until 2:45, and nobody even so much as touched my feet or acknowledged my presence until 3:15. My mom's pedicure wasn't started until 3:30. My sisters ended up waiting for about twenty minutes after my mom and I were both done, for similar services. For reference, we all got pedicures and gel manicures, and a couple of us got French. The whole experience was incredibly frustrating for me; I understand that it was a busy weekend with graduation and Mother's Day, but that's why we booked an appointment. The same thing happened to all three parties that were in front of us. They clearly overbooked on appointments or took in clients who hadn't made appointments. To top it off, everyone I encountered was incredibly rude and not a single person apologized for them being behind schedule.
