Located near the Essex train stop in the Lower East Side, I just recently started going to Mildred after my barber Vinny at the Blind Barber moved to this new shop. Being a Williamsburg resident, I was a bit hesitant to start going to the LES (I'm lazy, I know) but it's one of the best barber shops for guys looking for young, trendy haircuts in NYC. The vibe has that white, rustic. minimalist feel. The inside isn't massive, there are 3 chairs at the front and a couple in the back for hair coloring/women's haircare, divided by a long bench where you can wait. You can hear everything that's going on inside, but in the best way. There's lot of friendly barbers, who will offer you a beer or water while you wait. That's my favorite part. Vinny's been cutting my hair for a while now and knows his way around a trimmer and pair of scissors. Fades, fades, and more fades. These guys can also make an undercut or coif look good, no matter what your hair texture or head shape. Everyone looks great, so you feel confident they know what's cool right now. A haircut is $45, which is $10 cheaper than Blind Barber, so I'm definitely not mad about it. Make sure to bring cash for your tip. There are plenty of bodegas and bars around if you need to stop in at an ATM. Wanting to keep your hair looking fresh until the next cut? They also sell a bunch of fancy hair grooming products, too. I've been going to Mildred for a few years, ever since Paul Langevin (one of the three co-owners) left the his role as Head Barber at Blind Barber in Williamsburg. To be frank, it's location is pretty out of the way for me, so every now and then I drift and try to find somewhere more local to me. But, I always go back to Paul. It's been 7 years and I always go back. Yesterday was my first return since Covid. I'm turning 40 and wanted something sharp for a big trip to celebrate. Paul did not disappoint. My girlfriend, who rarely comments on my hair even said "you know, that guy does do the best job". So, I highly recommend. I shouldn't, as it's getting nigh on impossible to get a spot in his diary these days. I mean, you literally have to book weeks in advance sometimes, I find. But, it's worth it. read more

Best barbershop ever. No, it really is. Rob and Eric used to be at Blind Barber in East Village until they decided to do their own thing and start their own shop. Rob and the shop have been featured by GQ, Grailed, and a good deal of other men's fashion sources. You're in good hands if you decided to come here. They're both absolutely amazing at cutting hair and understanding what you're looking for. They are both extremely detail oriented and will always check their work a few times to make sure every last strand has been taken care of. You get a free drink when you walk in. The cut follows and ends with a straight razor shave and a hot towel. Definitely plan ahead because Rob gets booked a week or two in advance and Eric about the same as well. read more

This review going to be different than others because i didnt get a haircut here. Now youre probably wondering why the heck im writing this review for. Well, on a Tuesday, january 22, 2019. A shivery freezing night, I was walking around neirborhood, and was on the phone pitching an ideas and having a really important conversation with one of my biggest potential sponsor, but then suddenly, my phone died out of the blue. I was shocked and super frustrated because i just cant lose this client. After pacing around neighborhood, i stumbled upon this gorgeous and aesthetic place, Mildred. I was hesitant to go in there because they were so busy taking care of their costumers but i couldnt wait any longer. So i busted the door open and kindly asked them if i can use their facility to charge my phone and stuff. And they agreed! i mean, not to be dramatic but I seriously never encountered any haircut store like this! They even offers BEERS for a NON COSTUMERS. HOW COOL IS THAT. And of course i had to refused their offers because i dont want to look like a jerk that just walked in and drink their stuffs w/o paying. Anyways i hang around there for a solid 20 minute and let me tell you thier cleanliness and their attitude is SUPERP AND MARVELOUS ! Amazing barbershop. I almost don't want to review them because it will make it harder to get an appointment! This shop is owned by a trio of talented guys who were at Blind Barber before opening their own shop. I see Paul and he nails my tight fade every single time. Best barbers around. Really though. Come in, be handed a coffee or wine or beer as you're greeted by a friendly staff person. The place is clean and chic with white tiled floors and crisp white walls. Great conversation, great attitudes, no pretension or bigotry around, just clean haircuts. I always leave feeling heavenly. I've gone to other well-regarded barbers in the city but I always keep returning to Mildred. It feels like a community in there. Vinny has been cutting my hair for a few years and knows the stories of my friends. I know some of his stories by now too. Would give this spot six stars if I could. This is hands down the best haircut I've gotten in New York City. The staff is extremely talented and friendly. I have curlier hair and finding someone who can cut my style of hair has been a challenge. I am tempted not to write this review because I want to keep this amazing place my little secret, but I have so much praise and respect for these guys that I had to share my experience here. I followed Paul from Blind Barber in Brooklyn after he opened up his own place with two fellow barber friends. I never thought that coming to the barber could be the best part of my day, but I look forward to every cut with Paul. Everyone who works there is so down to earth and friendly. There is always good conversation and plenty of laughs- probably aided by the free beer and whisky they offer. And the haircuts? I will never let anyone else ever touch my hair again. My hair is thin and difficult to cut, and I have never felt so confident and happy with a haircut- and I always get compliments after a fresh cut- something that never happened before. They really make you feel like part of your family here, and I could not recommend them more. read more
