It's really a 2.5 but our waiter was very helpful and nice so it's a 3 Star.
Came in when they just opened but a little late in finishing my review. This teeny bistro took over a coffee shop. Upon walking in, we were immediately greeted by a gentlemen, who was smily and friendly. It was rather empty so our party was seated quickly.
By the reviews, ppl raved of the "crispy pata" which translates to a crispy fried (pork) hock. I've never had it so I was like why not. The other guests in our party ordered the sizzling dinuguan (a Filipino dark blood pork stew) which was served on a super hot oval cast iron pan (like bulgolgi served in a korean restaurant) and lastly a pancit (noodle) Malabok/palabok dish.
The Crispy pata (large), imho, was not what I thought was hype worthy. Yes it was defried pork hock with a femur bone. I suppose the simplicity of fried pork can attract pork lovers. But it was just ok. We/I couldn't figure what the hype was. It came with a dipping soy sauce too. My furry doggie enjoyed gnawing on the bone for a few minutes. $16.99
The sizzling dinuguan was kool as it arrived with sizzling sounds and smoke wafting from the dish. It was well received by the expert of the group. He said it was different way of presenting and proteins were tender and not gamey. I think it came with jalepeno peppers slices. $12.99
The pancit noodle dish arrived hot. It was a noodle dish with a wet seafood sauce and a few lemon wedges. We were told to mix it up and squeeze the lemon wedges. I beleive it has baby shrimp and lots of green onions slices in a orangey seafood scented gravy. After taking the leftover hone, it seemed to spoil quickly, so I didn't get to try further. I don't think I'd order again. It was a waste of money down the garbage disposal. $9.99
Garlic fried rice was pretty good. $1.00 per cup
Halo halo is a dessert staple of this cuisine and anything cold, milky, ice cream filled with little sweet beans, jello, etc must be a must have. We decided to share and honestly this mango ice cream topped iced milk dessert was basic. Nothing special. $5.99
Fried bananas in egg roll skin was different. I've had Turon at other places and it's usually long, open ended sides and super crispy with a brown sugar drizzle. At Milesbistro, it was a banaba wrapped like a Lumpia or a handheld mini burrito. It was closed on the sides and very basic, at best. Not worth the buy. $4.99 for 3
Major negatives
1). Waitress who was also taking phone orders and playing cashier wearing a cold shoulder red top loudly slammed and slid our water glasses on table and quickly walked away. We felt like we were inconveniencing her. Imho, she needs guest service training.
2). Staff was doing kitchen prep work at the counter. I think she was doing some vegetable prep work. Just seemed so unprofessional and disturbing sight to see.
3). Music was blaring loud. we had to shout to each other during meal time conversations.
Not sure a return visit is in the future, but who knows. read more
