Today I visited Milford Photo. I recently decided to upgrade my Canon T100 Lens from the kit lens to the EF 50mm f/.18 lens. Over a month ago, I checked their website out and compared it to a major corporate store where I've purchased other things at. This store in particular was my first choice and final choice because of what I saw online already. Parking lot is very clean & has designated spots for customers. Walking in, it was quiet and I saw a few people shopping around. I walked up to the lens and camera counter and I was greeted by a pretty cool guy! He asked me what I was looking for, I showed him and asked if we can see if it's compatible with my camera body. He put it on for me and I tried it on. He asked what kind of photography I was into and just had conversation flowing while trying to sell me something. The second sales representative sold me my lens cleaner and microfiber cloth. He was also very nice and helpful! I asked him his personal opinion and I got honesty. I noticed there was a print center so I think I'll be checking it out soon. The store has a variety of different items for your camera needs. Tripods, cameras, lens, memory cards, cleaners, and so much more. I went in there for one thing, and left with more. I payed $166 for the lens, memory card and warranty. Another $9+ for the cleaner and cloth. I believe for the value I paid, I got a good deal. Thank you Milford Photo, I will be back! I brought 44 2 1/4 negatives in sleeves to Milford Photo for high-res scans. Each sleeve was numbered and corresponded to printed proofs. Upon checking the scans, I discovered that there were 4 missing images. However, there were 41 scans provided. Oddly a very similar negative was scanned instead of the requested photo. And, this negative was inserted in the "missing photo" sleeve. Bottom line, my important negative was lost. I emailed the imaging specialist to see if he had misplaced the photo. Before I realized this loss, I brought the 4 missing negatives back to Milford Photo to be scanned. Shockingly. The scans were soft and missing detail. I called the imaging specialist, about these "bad scans". He proceeded to raise his voice and said that my negatives had deteriated. I proceeded to take the negatives to a very respected photo lab in NYC. I also showed the Milford Photo scans. They told me the negatives were scanned on the emulsion side. To be fair, I sent a detailed email to the specialist updating him about the scans and also asked him to look for my missing negative. He never replied. No apology, no compensation. While traveling, I had a few rolls of film I wanted to get developed. Since I was on the road, I also needed somewhere that would be willing to mail me my negatives as well. I decided to stop by Milford Photo and I'm glad I did. It was a great experience. The guy working the counter was really nice and helpful. I was able to get my rolls developed with scans and they shipped back all of my negatives for a reasonable price. I even picked up a few extra rolls of film from them, they had a good selection. When I got the scans back, they were nice quality and easy to download. I'd highly recommend this shop! read more

Big fan of Milford Photo. It's a solid, small town, great service camera store. They also have a fantastic selection in-house of current gear as well as a wealth of knowledge about product(s) from years past. I really like the vintage collection the owner has throughout the store and the great selection of items like camera bags, batteries and stuff that I would usually order online but really would like to see and buy in-person. My experience checking prices online vs. Milford has been that everything Milford offers is a very solid value. And that IS really the great thing about this store. Yes, you may pay a little more (usually because of sales tax) but everything is in-person and instant. There are no surprises with a professional outfit like Milford. And if there is a problem or more likely a question, a brick and mortar camera store is by far the best option, especially one staffed as well as Milford Photo. As cameras make a come back and taking pictures becomes more deliberate (again) vs. blathering snaps on a phone, Milford really is an important place to help capture memories. And even if you do most of your photography via a mobile device, Milford still has outstanding options to help get your memories printed and framed. One more cool thing about Milford Photo. The location of the shop is in an ideal place to try out your gear. It is right next door to a heavily traversed rail line and station with lots of different kinds of trains passing by hourly. The Town of Milford has wonderful, historic homes and businesses that are very photogenic as well as a central park in the middle of the town. And the store is about a mile from a public beach on Long Island Sound that has some fantastic natural shots. If you have questions or need some guidance, just drop back into the store after trying your new gear out. I love the stock & the fact there is film processing HOWEVER, the staff needs to be addressed. I see many reviews addressing the rudeness of the employees so, now I know this is an universal experience. I once said the wrong film name by accident and was given a snarky remark back by a male employee with a ponytail (who i believe is one of the rudest ones). It seems every time I come into the shop, I am belittled or made to look dumb in some way by employees who seemingly just know how to SELL cameras and not truly use them. I say this because once when I called to ask if they develop Super8 film, the guy on the other end didn't know what Super8 was!!!! Are you serious??? Like, c'mon. I'm sorry, but to be a shop full of know-it-alls, some employees there surely doesn't know much. And this doesn't go for everyone, I've actually had a few nice conversations with an older fellow there as well as a younger lady. This place is awesome. Before coming here I was a bit weary because of my camera situation. In about a week I'm taking a huge vacation to Africa with my mom doing a week safari. I bought a Nikon camera from another retailer but I wasn't sure how to use it and just needed basics. I found this place a few months back while passing and figured I would walk in. To my surprise, a man Jeff helped me with everything I needed and even sold me a memory card needed for the camera to get the best quality pictures. Because of this awesome service, I now feel more confident and comfortable using my camera and I'm ready to use it to capture great memories. The film I had developed came from a camera that shoots half frames. I mentioned this to staff and they said it wouldn't be an issue. I only wanted negatives because I scan myself. The negatives came out fine but I forgot to tell them not to cut them. Three of the cuts were cut into the frame. Really bummed on the carelessness. Really happy with the service that was provided. I rented a great lens for low cost and I had a one-on-one lesson with Jesse at Milford Photo. I am an in-house photographer for my place of work and there was a lifestyle shoot that was coming up. At the time, I was only comfortable shooting models in a controlled studio environment so some learning on my part was much needed. Before the lesson, I showed Jesse my previous work, the different spaces and environment I would be shooting in, and the equipment I had available. Jesse sat me down for 15 minutes prior the lesson for an assessment and then gave me a full hour with the assistance of a Co-worker if mine that I brought as a test model. He specifically catered the lesson to the questions and situations I had been needing guidance in. The hour lesson was packed full of hands on learning and useful tips. This truly increased my skills and I am so grateful for the learning experience he and Milford Photo provided. I hope the photos I took at that shoot are a testimony to his help and to one of the lenses I rented. read more

horrible experience !! hello jesse , remember me ?? i sure as hell remember you !! you ready for the battleship kid? .... here she comes p.s. no they don't respond unless there is a problem as per other poster ! time to call a spade a spade i got a sony a350 used off ebay listed as 100% working. comes in fast, unboxed camera like new !!! but control wheel bad ..... i contact them and they act like no way we are perfect and we never make a mistake testing !! take that brand new baby customer !! give it back to us and we camera gods will test it again, give you a refund then sell it again for parts they blamed shippers, me, acted bewildered, called me a liar and a scammer ...... i offered a video of the problem next to my good working a300 ..... jesse wasn't having it and would not even have the balls to get on the phone with me !! i told him i am a technician and fix my own gear, i paid too much just give me a lousy 25 bucks back and i will get a vg-30am grip to add the control back ..... not good enough give back the camera you can't keep it ..... well its mine now and i will fix it !!! This is the only place I get photos printed from. They mail as well so if I'm not expecting to be in the area, I get pictures delivered right to my doorstep! The quality of prints is far better than any place I know of online or locally. Prices are also very fair for the quality. While I've never bought anything except prints, from what I hear, they're equipment is high quality. Staff has always been friendly and helpful even on a busy Saturday they were helpful. We needed a part for a tripod and they researched it and told us it was something they wouldn't be able to get and recommended buying a new one. We didn't really believe them so we left and did our own research and came to the same result. read more

I have purchased every camera and all of my equipment from them after brainstorming ideas to help me in my photography goals. First let me say that this review should not reflect my overall experience at Milford Photo. I'm writing this review because of a PARTICULARLY BAD experience I had with a sales clerk who I wanted to purchase a lens from a little while ago. When I walked in I was greeted by a tall dark haired employee who looked like he knew what he was doing, at first he seemed very excited that I had come in. Everything was good until I mentioned that I wanted to purchase a lens for my Fuji X-T100. As soon as I mentioned I shot Fuji all of the interest and color drained from his expression and suddenly it was like I was an inconvenience to him. There were two other sales clerks at the camera sales area of the store (on the left when you walk in) and they both were helping other people who had come in after I did. The clerk who was helping me, whose name by the way was either michael or matthew, kept looking over at the other customers who were already being helped almost like he wanted to help them out rather than deal with me. At one point I asked him a question and it was clear he wasn't listening to me but was listening in on the younger shorter sales clerk who was talking to a couple about buying a camera. I started to get so fed up I wanted to walk away and just buy my lens off amazon! WHY HAVE A BRICK AND MORTAR STORE IF YOUR SALES STAFF ARE RUDE OR DON'T CARE ABOUT SELLING TO YOU? I asked the guy if he shot fuji and he admitted he didn't and he shot Nikon, but this shouldn't matter he could have at least tried to pay attention to my needs. I've been in a few other times and had great experiences, Jesse is super cool and I've processed film here and always been happy. They just need to do a better job hiring their salesmen! read more

Doesn't feel like they respect their customers. I got some color film developed here a while back and they sent me black and white scans because they thought it "looked better." I'm paying for color scans, I can make them B&W myself if that's what I decide. On top of that the scans were dusty and I had to retouch them myself. If they handled my film from development to scanning, any dust is their responsibility. Very little pride taken in their work. The reason I'm writing now is I just called and asked if they had a specific piece of equipment. The guy on the other end said "no, nothing like that. It's out there though," and hung up on me mid sentence. No suggestion of where to look, no courtesy. The impression I get is that some of the people who work here are elitists who think they're above the amateurs that seek their services. Maybe not everyone feels this way, but that has been my experience. I will say that I've had great experiences with the younger people working in the store, it seems to be the older guys that have this attitude. Sad. read more

I regretfully share a terrible experience with this business. I bought a brand new Nikon D3400 at the beginning of June this year, and it was broken by the end of July. I was in the middle of shooting, and it just turned off, everything stopped working. It wasn't an issue with battery, I never dropped it, it never even left my house. I didn't think it would be a big deal because I kept the receipt and I paid extra for the extended warranty. So, I went back to the store asking what they could do. They informed me that, had I kept the box that it came in, they could give me a new camera. I had the receipt, I had the warranty, I had the brand new camera, but because I had recycled the enormous box that it came in I couldn't get a new camera? Why on earth would I have kept the box? They said they would send it out for repairs, I would just have to pay the $20 fee for shipping. I didn't think they could be serious. I bought a camera that broke just one month later and I would have to pay for it? Oh, and the repair would take at least one month. It just got worse and worse. This store is not close to my home, nearly 40 minutes away, but it was the closest camera store around. I wanted to support a small business rather than purchase from Amazon. I now regret that decision. Had I purchased from Amazon, which has an excellent return policy, I would have a new camera by now. Amazon wouldn't ask for the box it came in. First to Review The two men who work in the photo print area are cold and condescending and one was downright smug and judgmental. Sure they assist you but in a required perfunctory manner - not with a sincere intent to help you resolve a problem or produce a good product. I got the impression that they want to rush you out of the store as soon as possible. After a second unpleasant experience, I feel obligated to write this. Ultimately, I got what I needed done at Walgreens. The woman there solved my problem by printing my complete image on a larger piece of paper and highlighting some colors for an overall good result. The only reason to come here is if you want to put your hands on a camera and see how it feels before you buy. Their prices are insanely overpriced for no good reason. Im ok with paying maybe 10percent more for overhead and employees and stuff but most of their employees only try to up-sell you and hardly ever know much about the item they are selling. Yes, the prices are higher than e-tailers prices. But, the service before and after the sale justifies the difference. They don't just sell camera and lens but are completely full service store, they excel in customer service they are very knowledgeable and have many classes through meetup.com to show you how to use your camera as well as many fun photographic opportunities and learning events as well as vendor demonstrations. I have purchased lens, and other equipment there, as well as camera bags and taken fun informative classes. A quick example of service. I brought in a lens for repair, they sent it out for repair, when the authorized repair facility did not repair correctly the first time they sent it back at no additional cost and hooked me up with a loaner for weekend trip. This is a great example for how small businesses should operate. Very knowledgeable with no pressure approach. I'm not a professional photographer and don't know much about cameras, but I knew I needed an upgrade from my simple point and shoot. I buy most electronics like this off Amazon/eBay, but after going in and speaking to Phil, I knew I was going to give them my business. Phil presented the facts and laid out my options for me. I'll admit I went in there just to get info and probably buy online, but he was a great resource and I never felt pressured. I went in two days later and bought the camera. The best place in the area to purchase photography equipment, prints, and to have photos framed. I've been going there for years and I've never had a bad experience. Jesse & staff are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They offer classes for everyone from amateurs to professionals and often have vendors come in for special events. The printing quality is excellent -- I only uses Milford Photo to print my photos to be used in galleries and for personal use. Traveling for work and wanted to get some photo supplies so I stopped in. Pretty big store, nice building. I was looking at bags and they had a great selection. Sales folk were very helpful and surprisingly not pushy at all. Also picked up a tripod and Chris didn't try to up-sell me a bit, gave me some great low cost options. I felt good supporting a small shop in a pretty cool town. I blame a twisted sadist instinct on the fact that I looked the products up online when I got home and was shocked to find the bag listed for even more and the tripod was the same price as I got in the store. Gino, one of the store's employees, was incredibly patient and helpful. He is very knowledgeable about all sorts of things. He took the time to educate me on various aspects of the camera equipment I was considering. I did not feel rushed or uncomfortable asking my questions, and I had a lot. Key here is that there is no pressure selling going on, which is so nice and refreshing. I truly felt like I could take my time to fully consider my needs with no angst about rushing to make a decision. I've never really had an experience like the one that I had at Milford Photo. To be honest, I now have to readjust my views of all other business establishments, purely because of Milford Photo. My experience with the staff at the store was great. I'm an amateur photographer, and I never felt like I was being talked down to or taken advantage of (unlike every big-box store or a snooty electronics store in Manhattan). I felt that I got a good price on a new Camera, and wonderful lens to compliment my new gear. However, to my surprise, a month or so after completing the purchase I received a phone call. After having gone over their invoices, someone noticed that I was entitled to a $50 rebate. The check is now in the mail. No other store has come close to that kind of honesty and integrity.
