Safety check expiring? Mililani Auto Repair shop is where I go to get my safety check. It's $26 and they take cash or card. Pro tip: Avoid coming around 12-1pm, they close down for lunch and the line gets backed up. I came in last time right before their lunch break, and you could tell that they were going quickly to get through all the cars waiting so they could go on break. Overall, they are really friendly and even with the line it seems to move very efficiently. It does seem a little dangerous when the line of cars goes out of the parking lot and there's a pile up of cars on the side of the main road. Service is friendly ,efficient and I will come back next year when my safety expires. read more

This review is for their safety check inspection service. Been coming here the last few years for this service. Busy mid month and at the end of the month, for obvious reasons. They seem pretty efficient but what annoyed me is that I did not realize is that one line is for re-inspect and the other is for the regular inspection. First time I've encountered two lines. The dude (younger of the two) who came to my window said, "you got your papers for re-inspect?" I said, um re-inspect? Then he tells me, "yeah you're in the wrong line." And just walked away. Mind you, I'm parked in the middle of the long line and had to get out of line and turn around in a tight spot. Ugh. Then I could only assume that the other line was for regular inspections. But there is no sign to indicate what the lines are for. Pretty rude on his part too. I get that they're busy but a little customer service goes a long way. I went there for a safety check and found myself leavinf because the line of cars waiting went down the side of the highway. I felt I was in a dangerous position wirg traffic zipping by just inches away. The third time, I went at 7:15 AM and was third in line. After waiting nearly an hour, the line moved quickly. Our daughter's Honda Civic had a splash shield that came undone after hitting some rough roads. Got there at 715 and completed my safety check at 9. Was 5th in line. Thought driver stays in car and is told what to do so tech can check safety of vehicle from outside. But, I'm guessing things change and tech does everything while I waited outside my vehicle. He was cashier, photographer, and safety checker. For $27, can't complain. I really don't like to write bad reviews but I feel I need to save my community from this auto shop. It all started about a year ago when my AC went out and I took it to Mililani Auto Repair. The service rep, a nice Hawaiian braddah, his name was Kimo or Kalani? Let's call him Kalani. Anyway, after doing an assessment of my car's AC, Kalani says I need the whole trifecta fixed; compressor, dryer, etc. He quotes me in the low thousands, which is typical for a full AC repair. My AC gets fixed in a few days, and Kalani tells me it's less than what was quoted. Happy Days, right? Not so fast. A few days later, my AC is blowing worst than before I took it in to them! I call Kalani, and he tells me no problem, just bring um in, we fix um. So I take it in. Later I get a call from Kalani, and he tells me that the new compressor was faulty (what are the chances?) and that he "forgot" to charge me for the new compressor in the first place, and that was the reason for the initial repair being less than the original quote. You can't make this up! At this point I'm wondering if these guys are trying to hose me so I tell Kalani that I'll pick up my car and let him know. After some thought, I realized I was already in the hole to these guys for the initial repair so I took my car back and got the AC fixed. Here's the thing though, and the reason I'm writing this bad review now is because my AC is not working properly after only a little over a year! What does that say about the workmanship and pride of this place? I do not recommend this place at all for any auto repairs. Need gas, ok, need a drink, ok, need a safety check, uh maybe, but for auto repairs, go somewhere else. read more

5 stars- no hesitation! My truck's CV boot was torn for a while so I wanted the whole the axle replaced. I called, spoke to Chris and he knew exactly what I was talking about! (called another shop previously and the guy I was speaking to had no clue on what I wanted.) But to make it even better, I called on a Friday and they said they could do it the next day- Saturday! So awesome! After the work was done, I did notice a high pitch rubbing sound from the area that was worked on. I simply called, dropped off my truck, they evaluated and fixed the problem. Coincidently a rock was stuck between the new axle and the rotor, they took of that for me with no questions asked or hesitation. But what I really need to also mention is THEY ANSWER THE PHONE!- every time, that is just old school, warm mom and pop kine service. But really, great communication and hard working folks down here. They have a very organized system for doing auto safety inspections. There were 2 guys helping with the process, so it went by very fast. Basically, you form a line while in your car, large area for lots of cars. When it's your turn, you'll need to step out while they lift and check under your car. Went in for the annual safety inspection. As usual, quick, professional, and solid. I did see people get turned away, but I also overheard (because I was next in line) the explanation, and the invitation to have the person get the violation fixed and come back right away, as well as to bring the parts so they could help him with it (no proper signal lights vehicle because it was a "classic", and they offered to help him get signal lights mounted for the safety so it could pass but he'd have to bring it to them asap). I've been coming to these guys as a "drive in" for the past few years and they've always been solid. Get there half an hour before opening and you'll probably be first or close to first in line in the middle of the month. read more

I can't even count with my fingers when I have gone here to have my tires plugged because I always some type of nail or screw stuck in my tires. I have unfortunately had several questionable experiences with this place over the years! It is fair to say that the owner takes advantage of the fact that there are very few repair shops in the area. The owner of this shop clearly sets prices that are hundreds more than that of a fair and honest repair shop. I would never have them work on my car again without a 2nd opinion on the charges. When called out on his ridiculous prices, he even reduced the price in an attempt to appear fair.... but the price of the repairs was already inflated greatly!!! If you are not considered a "Regular" there, be prepared to pay way more than the actual job costs!! Older customers and women are the most vulnerable patrons that this guy takes advantage of!! His prices are ridiculous on common car repairs. He even orders the most expensive parts from parts shops before consulting the customer. Horrible idea!! Our ABS VSA and power steering lights came on, and on the way to the shop the warning lights turned off. The shop advised up front, without the warning lights illuminated, there is a good chance they won't be able to pick up anything on their diagnostic scans. We wanted to check anyway just in case. The shop called back, they weren't able to find anything, but what I really think was outstanding, because they didn't do much, and didn't spend much time on the diagnostics, they actually didn't charge me anything. They could have easily charged for the time they spent running the tests, but they didn't. I will definitely take my cars back there. They are respectable and pleasant to work with! read more

He called ahead for me to see if I needed an appointment, they said first come, first serve - come on down! Went here for Hawaii safety inspection. I will be back for both of my cars every year. They were super helpful and let me know all the information I would need coming back over. I didn't even come here at first, I went to the Goodyear around the corner (DO NOT GO THERE!!!). After being mistreated by them, I just googled for the next nearest auto shop. We are from California, and our windows were tinted darker than Hawaii allows. There is actually a service in the same parking lot that tints your windows... super great location for their business!! (It was a great experience from them as well.) The guys working there were efficient in getting the long line through for everyone to get their inspection. There's a parking stall right in front of the sign where you wait, but sometimes the line can be long during certain hours of the day. I would try to avoid lunch time if possible. He also cited me for a modification that I did that they previously passed and also passed the then re-construction inspection. He told me the law changed. Great experience! I woke up at 5am and car would not start. Called AAA thinking it was my battery. Tow truck arrived and did systems check to tell me it is the starter. At 6:30am I called Mililani Auto Repair not expecting a mechanic to be available. The person that answered the phone transferred me to the mechanic who said I can have the car towed there and they will change out the starter. Couple hours later they called with the assessment and their recommendations. By the end of the day they called that my car was ready! I will definitely use them in the future! read more

Terrible experience today, tempted to bring it back to prove their diagnostic wrong. Dropped the car off in the morning at ~7:30 technically before they open for coolant bleed. Seemed good so far. Come back at ~1:10pm to the car not running sitting there with a pressure tester on it with nobody around actually testing it, pressure tester was left on there for quite some time with 3 guys sitting around. Came in to just pick up the car and do it myself. Ended up leaving it there for them to bleed coolant, half hour labor time. Hour later it's done after ~30 min bleed and ~30 min test drive. Their diagnosis, bad thermostat (lower hose cold while upper rad hose hot) good diagnostic, sure, but i just replaced thermostat with OEM yesterday. Should have let it run in the parking lot to check, but drove it home. Never overheated and when i got home, 3 mile drive. Lower rad hose very hot. Rev the car at 3k rpm to build heat to promote overheating, needle doesn't move. In the end they did bleed the coolant system (only reason for 2 stars) but poor execution. One mechanic said there isn't a bleed procedure for the car. Another seemed to fish for extra work. I appreciate it getting done, but me sitting in town until 3:40pm for half hour job with guys sitting around topped off with bad diagnostic. read more
