It was time for my 60k maintenance on my car and I really needed to get it done. I honestly put it off for a while because the estimated cost from the dealer was astronomical. I'm talking $800+ for the "recommended" service given my car's mileage. Things are already rough for us local folks... $800+ would have been impossible. I'm also not a "car guy", so there's that. Thankfully, my wife took her car to Car Geeks before. I remember her showing me the multipoint inspection report with photos, recommendations, and suggestions for which actions to prioritize. I appreciated that the Car Geeks team provided that. Making an appointment was pretty straightforward. I told them what I needed and they answered my questions (I was particularly concerned about cost). I showed up to my appointment as scheduled. They completed the multipoint inspection and went over the recommended actions (brake fluid flush). I also received the results from the inspection in a link via text message. Once I agreed to the additional service, I approved it on the web page. However, in order to get the work done, the team needed to remove the tire for access. I explained that, unfortunately, my wheel lock key had not been returned by the previous shop I went to. In fact, it was my second set that was not returned. The Car Geeks team reviewed options with me again. They asked if I wanted to wait until I got the new key, but I said that was unlikely and I've been wanting to just switch to regular lug nuts to prevent future headaches. No problem. They were able to get that done for me as well. The team also kept me updated regularly during the visit. By the time the work was done and paid for (definitely not $800+), I was both impressed and thankful for their clear communication and teamwork. It's very easy to make appointments online and with my most recent visit, Car Geeks was flexible with rescheduling me via phone. Quick service, great communication, and awesome prices. Servco recommended a brake flush and said it'd be $218. I told them I'd shop around instead. The same service was $99 at Car Geeks. They have a waiting room if you don't have a ride. After waiting for 5 hrs, they told me I need to change my struts for $2400. I was already having a bad day and was too overwhelmed, so I left with my car instead. I called car geeks at 1PM and they said they can take a look at it and dropped off my car. They called me two hours later saying I don't need to replace anything, tightened the bolts and noise gone, and no charge. I was so happy after a really bad day. As someone who is determined to figure out the root cause of an issue, especially when it comes to the safety of my car, I'm so relieved to finally find an auto repair shop that I want to regularly go to. I'll spare all the details and the long story of how I got here, but the main highlight of Car Geeks is that they provide quality service for a reasonable price. Most dealerships, shops, and mechanics I've encountered have inflated the costs for their services and have misdiagnosed my car issues or would say that there's nothing wrong without saying why or providing a well-informed explanation. When I called Car Geeks to see if they can fix my car issues, Keegan was very patient and helpful in talking through what the issues could be and asked clarifying questions to see if the issues were something the shop could figure out. I found out that Keegan was a technician prior being brought onto the customer service team, which was so helpful because I was able to receive thorough explanations and possible solutions when I was unsure of what the specific issues were. From there, I felt assured to book an appointment with Car Geeks to inspect and diagnose my car. When I pulled up to the shop, Keegan greeted me and went through the issues with me again to take notes to share with the technicians. I dropped my car off for the day and the awesome thing was that after the diagnosis, Car Geeks sent me a full report of their inspection with photos, if a part of the car was in good condition or needed to be repaired right away/in the future, and what the total cost would be depending on what I chose to repair. It's nice because they don't start the repairs until you confirm them and feel comfortable with it, and they can talk with you on the phone through it before moving forward. I overall really appreciated that they did very comprehensive inspections looking at the whole health of my car instead of only looking at one part which may or may not be the issue, without looking at if anything else is impacting or connected to what needs to be repaired. The team is very skilled at their work and is very efficient, so they were able to figure out the root cause of multiple issues and repair them all in the same day. The lead mechanic was enthusiastic about doing the subframe alignment for my car, which I found out after calling several shops that Car Geeks was the only one I could find nearby out of those shops that could do this work. The total cost of the repairs for multiple issues was less than the cost of what the previous shop was going to charge for one part they were going to repair that also turned out to be a misdiagnosis. So happy that I was able to find Car Geeks, who also has the most reviews I've seen for an auto repair shop with lots of positive feedback from customers who had great experiences with them too. Received a text confirming they received the submission and they would reach out to confirm the appt. time. Not long after i received a call back to confirm my backup apt time. Received a reminder text about my upcoming appt the day before the actual appt. Day of, the shop was easy to find. I showed up 15 min early and parked in one of the numbered stalls in front of their bays and found my way into the customer waiting room where Kyle worked the intake. Very clean waiting area and Kyle is friendly and easy to talk with. But before they do any work, they'll send you a text message with a link that shows pictures of what needs to be done and the cost associated with the fix. Grab your popcorn and enjoy my review. I was leisurely driving from a Costco run when suddenly I felt a jerk and next thing you know, it's as if my car has lost power. On my dashboard are FOUR warning lights: check engine, VSA, TPMS, and EPS. I had to pull over and then eventually make my way home, albeit very slowly. I'm dumbfounded to say the least. After some amateur research, the conclusion seemed to be battery or alternator. As such, I take it to Autozone for a free battery and alternator check up. Checks out fine. Here's the interesting part. I tell the Autozone guy I'll take it to the shop behind their store and he stops me and tells me, no, take it to Car Geeks. Of course I'm like, he's either got family there and wants to give my business to them or this guy knows the guys in the back are no good. Either way, Car Geeks it is! I make my journey in my barely powered up vehicle to Car Geeks. They're quite a ways away but not hard to find. I pull in to the lot and make eye contact with Kyle who walks over to me. I tried my best to explain my understanding of the situation but of course, nothing like bringing out the troubleshooting tools for something more concrete. Unfortunately, I had to leave it with them for the day as is the nature of diagnostics (especially when cause isn't obvious). Got my bro to pick me up and I leave my car, keys, and information with Kyle. As we're driving away, I immediately get a call from Kyle letting me know that the main issue (not necessarily the cause) that showed up were my fuel pumps. Of course no one is ever happy to hear the quote for the replacement part but alas, my need for a working car outweighs the consequences of not having a working car. I approve the replacement for the low pressure fuel pump. I felt relieved as at least I knew what the possible cause was and the repair price was within my budget...or so I thought. Here is what I love about Car Geeks - COMMUNICATION. They're very good at communication. Before the end of the day, the tech gives me a call and let's me know that after replacing the low pressure pump (autocorrect keeps changing it to pimp ‍) it looks like the high pressure pump is also problematic. The good news, he can replace that too. The bad news? Only the dealer carries this part and it's marked up the ass. However, the tech informs me that we'll make this work. I give my approval to go ahead with the repair. Ultimately, the cost was 1.5 times what I budgeted. Not the best but not the worse either. This morning, just before lunch, I messaged Car Geeks for an update and within minutes I get a call from Kyle to let me know my car is ready for pick up and all those cursed lights are gone. I'm a happy camper - so happy I actually didn't mind paying for an Uber ride there. Drove home happy knowing that I have a working car and I found me a new reliable shop. They get 5 stars from me because: 1). They came through for me when my dealer (the one I rely on the most) would not take me in because they were explicitly told by management not to take walk-ins this week. Lame. 2). They were straightforward - once it was clear they didn't know what was wrong right away, they were upfront about the need for diagnostics and honest with making sure I understood that they can't make promises (i.e they cannot tell me this or that until a diagnostics has been done). 3). Communication - they communicate via text with links to their site for work updates in addition to having one of their guys actually call you up. There's no way you can say these guys don't communicate when they use multiple methods to do so. 4). Upfront about the cost and show of empathy. When the tech tells you even he doesn't have that kind of money to pay for the repair he's quoting you, that's a sign that he's not after your money. My dealer advisor just looks at me blankly like I'm taking too long when I show concern about the price or repair. 5). I had the ability to pay online or pay with the service advisor. I liked them so much I came back 2nd service. My car was squealing was pretty sure was my tensioner and belt. Agreed to drop it off for diagnostics. Got an email and text with a link that included pics and recommendations. I was right about the tensioner but Car Geeks found other problems and ranked them on a color scale of Red, Yellow, Green with recommendations. I knew of 75% of the problems they listed and knew the pricing they gave me was fair and a good value having been quoted by Servco previously. Found this place on accident through signs posted near Costco in Kapolei yesterday. I have been trying to get an oil change for months and everyone tells me there is a 3 hour wait and it's first come, first serve. Called this this place hoping they took appointments and they had me in the next day (today). Doesn't have all the commercial signage a big national brand would have but felt good supporting local. Geo, the service adviser helped me out and I was out in a half an hour. The total was less than I would have paid at a big box service center but they are as good. They have always been out for the money, and business since they are smaller than Dealerships. NOT this business I have never met more of STRAIGHT SHOOTERS in auto repair shops. They tell me the truth all the time, from hey we can't fix it due to dealer only, or he my this other shop is better for this type of issue due to car specifics. They have never mislead me with my Black Volkswagen Passat TDI. So when I have to take it somewhere else because they wholeheartedly can't work on it I feel bad as a customer for them because I know if they could I would sleep good at night from the work they do. Saw signs all over so I took my car to get the AC checked out. The diagnostic cost $99 to see what the problem was, my appointment was at 10:45am so I dropped off my car, they said as soon as they find out they'll call me and let me know what the problem is and give me a quote. 1 hr later I haven't heard anything so I called and no answer, so I called back a 2 hours later, still no answer, I was running errands so I didn't mind. I called after 2pm and they said "oh you can come now, your car is almost done. I said done? Did you guys find the problem? The guys said "I'm looking at the notes in the computer and there's nothing saying what was wrong. I got there and spoke to Geo, he was friendly but he was telling me that the blower motor needed to be replaced. I said "no one called to tell me what the problem was" he said sorry they were busy, So you mean to tell me my car was here over 3 hrs and didn't fix anything??? I was pissed. He said he was gonna text me the quote, so I left. He texted the quote and it was almost $500 for the motor and labor. I was mad, so ended up taking my car to Mikes Ac in Kalihi and he said said there was a clog that's why it wasn't blowing, he unclogged it in 5 mins. He said nothing was wrong with the blower. Wth!!! Im so glad I didn't pay almost $500 for something that didn't need to be replaced. If you have AC issue go you Mikes, you won't be disappointed. Do NOT take your vehicle to Car geeks...I took my car into Car Geeks for AC recharge and vacuum because Nissan had diagnose that was the problem with my AC. I sat there for an hour and then they said that the car is done and it costs this much $XX.xx. I paid and left the shop. I drove the car home and sat in traffic for an hour noticing that the AC is still not blowing cold air. When I got home I went ahead and contacted them to let them know. Car geeks said they will talk with the technician and contact me back right away. Well I didn't get a call back that day so I decided to call them after 3 pm the next day to see what is the hold up. When speaking to them they said they got really busy the day before and couldn't get back to me. He also said that he spoke with the technician and he said that AC compressor needs to be replaced. He will text me the quote for the AC compressor. Well he then sends me a quote for $1100. I call him back and asked when we're they going to tell me I needed the AC compressor to be replaced? I sat there for an hour, paid, and left with nothing said to me about them not being able to fix the problem with my AC not blowing cold, or anything wrong, or the compressor needed to be replaced, or that I had any other problems with the AC. I told him I wanted to speak with the manager, which he said was not in the office right now. I asked him to please take down my name, number, and I wanted the manager to contact me when he gets back in the office. It's been 1 week and they won't answer my calls or my messages, and still no return call. I will NEVER take my vehicles to Car Geeks nor will I ever refer anyone to them. read more
