Big fan of Christina Tossi so wanted to check out Milk Bar to support her. Bought 3 cookies (confetti, compost, cornflakes marshmallow etc) and the crack pie all for 13.50USD. The crack pie was to die for. So far, I've tried some of the cornflake cookie and it was good but had kind of an oatmeal-like texture so it was just ok for me. Can't wait to try the other 2 cookies. I ordered a pint of soft serve with a side of topping on Aug 5, 11:48pm at Milk Bar Williamsburg. I called the restaurant to ensure I was getting enough topping for the pint since I was sharing it with 3 friends. The lady was raising her voice and extremely rude. She finally said would satisfy my order and hung up the phone on me while I was speaking. When I got my order, I realized she put enough topping for 1/2 a person ~ 1tsp. It almost seemed malicious and weird? On top of that the ice cream was really melted. We ended up not even eating the ice cream bc if someone was going to be that rude about something so trivial, we felt a person that unhinged would probably spit in our order (especially given that it was so runny/melted). read more

On my last day in New York I thought about what omiyage goodies (gift or souvenir given to friends, coworkers, and family after returning home from a trip) to bring home. I've heard about Momofuku Milk Bar through various media channels and decided to have a taste for myself. I know the cereal milk ice cream is well talked about, but in 30 degree winter weather I really wasn't in the mood for anymore cold, but I was still curious what it tasted like. One of their worker's offered me a sample of the soft serve and gave me some extra time to decide. The soft serve tasted like basic soft serve ice cream to me. Maybe if it came with the corn flake cereal topping it would have added a little something extra? I ended up purchasing their assorted cookie tin of 6 different types of cookies and a 3 pack of Birthday Truffles. Both of these treats were very good and the cookies are large enough to break off and share with friends. My coworkers really enjoyed the interesting cookie flavors! If you're looking to take back any treats to share with people from afar I recommend the assorted cookie tins and a few flavors of the truffles (my fav). My only regret is not having the opportunity to taste their Crack Pie. Otherwise, this is a cute little store to stop in for a sweet treat or some after dinner dessert! read more

As fellow Yelp pal Daniel B. said, I ordered some cakes and cookies for my birthday in September. I generally don't make a big deal about my birthday but this year, Instagram posts of the iconic naked cakes just got the best of me and I plopped down the moolah on Goldbely to get some Momofuku Milk Bar goodies delivered to my door. My order came on the expected delivery date, packaged with styrofoam and ice packs in a genius way that kept cakes from being jostled (they come frozen, which helps) and ruined. The sent-from address was this very Brooklyn location. Though I had read that the cakes are 6 inches in diameter, I was still surprised to see how "little" they appeared, though they were quite tall. Oh, I forgot to mention that I got the birthday (duh) and the strawberry lemon cakes. They kept amazingly well in the freezer and when I peeled off the plastic wrap and let them defrost, they looked just as beautiful as all the IG posts. I was pretty excited. I heated up a knife under hot water and wiped it to get clean cuts of the cakes, for photo op and general eye-pleasing purposes. The birthday cake was what I read it would be: a cake made from scratch with exacting technique (I also have the Momofuku Milk Bar cookbook from owner Christina Tosi) that tasted like a funfetti boxed-mix cake. I had to try it because my curiosity was clawing the insides of my mind but I doubt I'll have it again. Too sweet for my tastes but the texture of the cake and frosting were great. The strawberry lemon cake was the winner of the two! I loved the tartness of the lemon curd and pickled strawberry jam, both of which balanced out the sweetness of the cake itself. Excellent balance of flavors and great cake texture, with a tight crumb. I also got some blueberries & cream cookies. I was torn and wanted to try the corn cookie, which a good friend of mine snagged on a recent trip to the City. I'll talk about both. The cookie was tasty but it wasn't mind-blowing, as I was expecting and hoping. In fact, I felt the texture was almost too raw. This is coming from someone who loves to eat raw cake batter and cookie dough and is a decently-versed baker. I wished the cookies had been baked a tad bit longer, maybe 2-3 more minutes. That would've taken them to the top. The recent corn cookie was amazing and compelled me to add freeze-dried corn to my grocery list. I am not on a mad hunt for it but my eyes are peeled, just in case I run into this specialty item somewhere. The corn flavor was wonderful and the cookie itself had a slight salty touch, which is what Tosi's desserts are known for. If I am near a Milk Bar in NYC or DC, I won't hesitate to run in for a corn cookie. I have made the cornflake-chocolate chip-marshmallow cookies from both the mix sold directly in Milk Bar (thanks to Vivian W. and Michael Y.'s kind housewarming gift a couple of years ago, which was an awesome Home Sweet Homespun Birchbox that included the cookie mix) and the one found in Target. My friend swears milk bar's cereal milk soft serve is her absolute favorite thing to eat in life. So I had to try it at least once. They sell their soft serve in only two portions - single serve for 5.50 and pint size for 11. I had their cereal milk in single serve size with the added crunch. I liked that they added the crunch on the top as well as on the bottom of the cup so you'll get a helping with every spoonful. But I didn't see what was so phenomenal about the soft serve itself. The flavor wasn't anything impressive or different. I also found the soft serve to be a little too sweet. And contrary to its name it didn't really taste like cereal milk to me but more like a yogurt-y soft serve. People back home in SF told me to go try out Momofuku milk bar and I believe this is somewhat the same as to the other locations. Seating inside's pretty small but it has a cozy feel to it. I ordered a birthday truffle which costed 5$. They were 3 sweet balls of joy that was a bit too sweet for my liking (although I can't handle uber sweet items) was alright! I'd probably try some other flavours that might be less sweet. There were two more different ones. I also had to try out their Cereal Milk (6$) ice cream looking item. The cream tasted like milk that contained cereal in it for sure. I wasn't a fan of the after taste but the flake toppings were delicious. Workers are nice. Would probably come back. read more

I went for the chocolate malt (a classic) which helped wash down the crackpie and despite being my mistake for partaking in the sugar injection (guilty as charged) it was taken in with glee at the moment. This place is a MUST-VISIT every time you come to NY. Each time I've gone has been in the morning, so I haven't had the opportunity to try the shakes or soft-serve, but I'm a big fan of the truffles and cookies. I like the birthday cake truffles and blueberry cream cookies the most! Do be warned that this place is really tiny - there's literally one bench in the shop, so get your treats to go and be on your way. I'm taking a star because, as the other reviewers have mentioned, it's pricey. I think one day I got a hot chocolate and 2 packs of the truffles and my total was $17-18, which is pretty hefty considering each is small. The hot chocolate was decent, but forgettable, I wouldn't go for drinks by any means. Make sure you check one of the Milk Bars out and bring your sweet tooth! read more

Epiphany: (from the ancient Greek , epiphaneia, "manifestation, striking appearance") is an experience of sudden and striking realization. For me, part two of this definition is officially synonymous with crack pie. I'd heard the hype, and wondered how a dessert could attain nearly legendary status. I even, embarrassingly, assumed that it would in fact, probably be pretty crummy. Thankfully I made my way into the Milk Bar and gave their crack pie a try. Oh my... Buttery, toffee-y, nutty, oat-y...the flavor was far more complex than I had imagined, and oh so worth the hours, and possibly days, it would take rectify the damage that I'm sure a single slice did to my body. That being said, every single time I come to New York, I feel compelled to splurge on the calories. My clumsy vernacular can't do it justice, but it is almost like a cross between a nut-less pecan pie, and Paula Dean's gooey butter cake (if you've ever been to Savannah and visited to her restaurant Lady and Sons, you may have experienced this for dessert). I'm sure it isn't for everyone, as I could see how some people might find it cloying, but I consider it to be a completely unique and enjoyable treat. Among the Milk Bar locations that I've visited, this one tends to be slightly larger in the kind of way that a shoebox for boots is slightly larger than one for sandals. It still isn't exactly comfortable, but the benches make it a little more welcoming as you attempt to indulge (not wanting to go out in public holding your guilt while walking with that sappy "this is so incredible" kind of look plastered on your face). The service here was pleasant, and the pork buns looked mighty tempting. I know they also have " cereal milk" shakes that are supposed to be quite good, along with pies, cookies, "bagel bombs," and cake truffles. Honestly I am kind of thankful I don't live closer, as I don't think I could resist on a regular basis. read more

When I lived in the East Village, I went to Milk Bar almost as often as I walked by its doors. I couldn't resist the call of the soft serve and cookies, and I'd find ways to justify going inside before the bakery was even in sight. I haven't lived in New York since 2009, but every time I've been back, I've tried to stop in to buy cookies to bring to people at home. I thought I would go home empty-handed this last trip, due to hurricane, but was pleased to see there was a Milk Bar in Williamsburg, where we spent the last night of our trip. It was a tiny place, really a hole torn out of a wall, but it wasn't too crowded and I was able to put in my order right away. I bought something like eighteen cookies, for our hosts, for my family, and for us, and I ordered a pork bun to eat there, and asked for two samples of cereal milk ice cream, since we just wanted a little taste. I'm not sure why, but the cashier asked me pretty blankly, "Can you just share one?" as if getting or giving out two dollops of soft serve to a pair of customers spending over forty bucks on fucking cookies was somehow burdensome. Anyway. I love Momofuku's soft serve, and the ice cream was as good as ever. Everything else? Not as much. The biggest disappointment was the pork bun. I've had pork buns from Momofuku about a dozen times, and they've always been so delicious, with thick, juicy slabs of pork topped with some pickled vegetables, wrapped in those soft, fluffy white fold-over buns. The one I got in Williamsburg was a king-sized single bun with a thick skin that had a telltale cardboard texture. Inside was shredded pork that was a far cry from the fatty, flavorful pork belly I was expecting. I layered on the sriracha, but I abandoned the bun when I was about halfway through. This was my first time throwing away a single morsel of a Momofuku pork bun. I wonder what happened with this downgrade anyway - did all Momofuku locations stop serving the original buns? That would be an incredible disappointment. We took the cookies home and I found that even they had lost some of their magic. The blueberry and cream cookies I used to flip for were so sweet this time they seemed to heap actual nuggets of sugar and butter right onto my tongue. Not the worst thing, but not as good as I've had from other Milk Bar locations. We got corn, peanut butter, compost, and marshmallow chocolate chip cookies as well, and they were all fine but none as amazing as before. I think I've been to Milk Bar enough times to know that I haven't just suddenly lost interest now that the novelty is gone - I think either this Milk Bar is inferior to the others, or that the franchise overexpanded and quality control has gone down. TMI. i mean this in the most un-meanest way. Unfortunately this branch of Milk Bar has some of the most apathetic service I encountered in the states and on two occasions I felt completely unwelcome and couldn't wait to get out of there. If it weren't for the delicious things I ate on my two visits then I'd be hard pressed to give this 3 out of 5 stars. The bagel bomb filled with a bacon infused cheese is one of the most genius breakfast items ever. The malted truffle cakes are one of the best things you may ever stick in your gob and I took loads of those home, along with cookies and a cookbook for cake loving friends back in Australia. read more
