I had a piece of strawberry shortcake and three cookies delivered via Caviar during these pandemic times and the cake really hit the spot. The cookies not so much. I also had birthday cake delivered to a friend during the pandemic and it made her day. I ordered "for a later time" and I think it confused the system as Caviar first brought her the wrong delivery but replaced it shortly after. I also used the Milk Bar website to order a tin of cookies for a friend who lost her parent and it brightened her day. And I also used the same website to order my sister out of state a Milk Bar sampler gift box for Mother's Day and she loved it. I didn't realize it was a mixture of perishable and non-perishable items, so she needed to be there for its arrival. It's all about the cake, pie and soft serve in my opinion. I took the class with a friend after seeing the Netflix show. While it was a fun thing to do on a Saturday I don't think I would recommend it to anyone for that price (a little steep). It was just putting together an already baked layers of a cake, I thought I would learn a little bit more. I loved watching her on the documentary series and I don't feel like the class was worth it and I would rather have spent my day at one of the milk bar shops and bought cakes and pies ect. This is not a baking/design class. I was enjoying a night in and decided to order some sweet treats. I bought the sample pack where you get a slice of pie, three of the truffle balls, the cereal milk ice cream and a cookie. I paid $25 not including tip, tax or delivery. The slice of pie was really flat and thin, and the truffle balls were tiny. The cookie and ice cream were a good size. Unfortunately I didn't like any of it. As other reviewers have noted it was all really sweet and the texture of everything was very dense, sticky and wet. Like dessert cement. The Compost cookie was okay but not any better or worse than a cookie you could get at a supermarket. I got a blueberry and cream cookie, birthday cake truffles and a slice of the birthday cake. I got the cookie for my daughter. I tried it and didn't think it was anything special but she enjoyed it. This review is solely for the Milk Bar wedding cake that I ordered for my wedding. The cake was delicious and beautiful. As you probably already know, their cakes are naked cakes, which makes it special, especially for a wedding. We ended up decorating the cake with a cute banner and some orchids. Prior to ordering the wedding cake, I stopped by the Milk Bar location in Carroll Gardens to pick up a wedding cake tasting to see if we even liked their cake. After tasting their cake samples, my husband and I rated each flavor and we let that settle in my heads for awhile before we finally decided to place an order. We ended up picking a four-tier cake was which way more than we actually needed but it's cake so who cares?! I will eat it all eventually (it's currently in the freezer). I like this Williamsburg location because there's a bit of a seating area on the inside so you can escape from the NYC cold to get your ice cream fix. I have to be honest with you, I really don't like cereal milk soft serve. Momofuku Milk Bar has over a half dozen locations around the country, mostly in New York, but also in DC, Toronto, and Vegas. The return address printed on the package was for this Brooklyn store, so that's why I'm reviewing this location. The goodies were ordered online at www.milkbarstore.com. Momofuku Milk Bar was founded by celebrity chef Christina Tosi. It's part of the popular Momofuku restaurant group founded by another celebrity chef, David Chang. This place is known for its desserts. We noshed on the following items which were delivered to Atlanta: * Birthday cake (6-inch, $50.50) - vanilla rainbow cake layered with rainbow cake crumbs and topped with vanilla frosting * Strawberry lemon cake (6-inch, $50.50) - vanilla cake layered with lemon cheesecake, milk crumbs, and pickled Tristar strawberry jam * Blueberry cream cookies (tin of 6, $14.75) - sugar cookie dough, bits of milk crumbs, and dried blueberries My favorite, by far, was the birthday cake. My friends and I joked that the cake looked like a unicorn had thrown up all over it. This was because the cake was so colorful. According to Milk Bar's website (https://milkbar.goldbely.com/cake1-6-in-birthday-cake), it took Tosi and her team over three years to get the flavors right. The result is what I think is an absolutely delicious birthday cake. It's very sweet and rich (perhaps too sweet for some), but the vanilla flavor and the milk crumbs are what I liked the best. The cake was a bit crumbly, but that didn't affect my enjoyment of it. The milk crumbs were sweet, creamy, and sugary. I loved how they melted in my mouth. The strawberry lemon cake was good, but I'm not sure it's something I'd order on my own. Others seemed to prefer this cake over the birthday cake, so I think I was in the minority. This cake was definitely lighter than the birthday cake and expectedly more acidic due to the strawberries, strawberry puree, lemon juice, and lemon extract. This is more of a fancy tart cheesecake and it doesn't smack you in the face with cream and sugar like the birthday cake does. The blueberry cream cookies were OK. They didn't really stand out to me other than perhaps they were a little dry. I ate one right out of the package. The tin included six individually plastic-wrapped cookies. In summary, the birthday cake was bomb, the strawberry lemon cake was good, and the blueberry cream cookies were alright. Momofuku Milk Bar gets 4 stars out of me, mainly for the birthday cake (otherwise, 3 stars). I didn't realize you could order these things online, but now I do! read more

On my most recent visit to New York, I finally got to try Momofuku Milk Bar. I've heard so many people talk abut this place. My friends that have visited NYC always told me to go try it. I never got around it until recently. My friends and I decided to stop by after dinner. Dessert time right?! RIGHT! I decided to try out their cereal milk soft serve with cereal crunch. I just imagine it to taste like a bowl of frozen cereal. And the actual taste of it was slightly different. The soft serve was really sweet and it was just ice cream to me. The cereal crunch flakes were delicious though and they went really well with the ice cream. They were crunchy and salty! So it definitely help balance out the flavors of the soft serve. One thing I did notice was that the texture and consistency of the soft serve was very thin. Mine was okay until half-way but my friend's soft serve became really watery from the start. And it wasn't even warm in there! So it might as well be a drink instead of ice cream haha. Overall, I wasn't particularly impressed with their product. Received vulgar hate mail from a fake account, i assume the owner, within 2 days of posting this review, so lowered to 1 star. The hype surrounding this spot (and its other locations and incarnations) is off the charts. The ratings on Yelp are decent and not great, but I found them to be a little wide of the mark. I could not be less of a fan. The only reason I give 2 instead of 1 is because it's not quite a national corporate chain yet, and the service was nice. I find the prices to be about twice what is acceptable even in NYC for these products. My milkshake was extraordinarily overpriced and so sweet I couldn't drink more than a third of it before my throat got so sore that I threw it away. It tasted okay, but nowhere near good enough to keep going. The cookies are ok, but nowhere near good or great, and the soft serve is not only overpriced, but really just tastes like processed sugar and milk. If you're thinking of coming here, take a "mo" to look up an alternative. You'll be fuku glad you did. read more

If you have a sweet tooth like I do then this is the spot for you. The famous Crack Pie definitely lives up to its hype. I prefer mine at room temperature when it's so soft and chewy that it melts in my mouth. I am a huge fan of the 5boro cookie (chocolatey goodness at its best). Pair it up with a latte and you'll be dancing on one foot. They also have great coffee and Fancy Shakes. The Fancy Shakes, in my opinion, are too sweet and strong. They must be drunk within the premises. So don't get your hopes up like I did thinking you can take it to go, no. This review is purely for the Bake the Cake cooking class that I took with my best friend at the 55 Hope Street location. I have to admit, I was a little skeptical that a $100 class was going to be all that worth it and, while I still think that it's definitely pricey, I had a lot of fun and the instructors were absolutely wonderful. First off, the cake part is more of a lesson in assembling the relevant parts than actually baking anything. Fair enough, given the two hours allotted and I wasn't too devastated about not hanging around an oven and waiting for the cake parts to actually bake. The latter hour making the cake truffles involved more cooking than the first hour of putting the birthday cake together. Just a heads-up, in case you wanted to show off those knife skills. Second, there's only one lesson in the baking class: you must snack. I don't think anyone in the class was complaining about this. There were so many scraps to munch on, from the cake crumbles to the leftover cake bits. Third, the teachers had the same bouncy, uber-friendly vibe of the mastermind behind Milk Bar. But more importantly, they were super clear in their instructions and walked around helping people figure out steps and offering plenty of encouragement. I've never felt so proud of a damn cake. Fourth, this is no shade against the class but when you're offering a cake class, it ... attracted certain personalities in the people taking it. One women whipped out a notebook and pen as soon as the class began and started scribbling down notes (by the way: the recipe is online). When we were in the assembly line for the truffles, another girl started snapping at someone else as to what her job was. It was bizarre but I suppose the trick is to shove some cake in your mouth and ignore the negative vibes. Ultimately, I liked this more than the cocosocial cooking classes where you're whipping up gnocchi or macarons inside a Hilton hotel lobby. read more

Although it carries the enticing Momofuku brand name, I don't think of the Milk Bar in the same way I do about David Chang's addictive restaurants. That's probably because the operation is really run by Momofuku pastry chef Christina Tosi, who now has five Milk Bars in Manhattan and Brooklyn. I first became acquainted with it at the annual Madison Square Eats food fair and thought the cookies were pretty good. Nothing hugely memorable but certainly satisfying in the moment. After finishing a tray full of smoked meat at Fette Sau, a colleague and I made a pit stop here on the way back to the Bedford Avenue subway station. It's a tiny spot with one monstrous chalkboard that takes quite a while to peruse. Seating is at a premium, especially on a rainy night, since there is just a corner bench to take a seat beyond the picnic table out on the sidewalk. They offer an array of specialty cookies and shakes, soft-serve and pie by the slice, croissants and breads, and sweet and savory buns. There's other stuff, but I didn't have the patience to take it all in since we were in a bit of a hurry. We decided to share a $6 Cereal Shake, which while thick, rich and not overly sweet, was rather nondescript for all the hype (see photo). I did taste remnants of the cereal (Cap'n Crunch, I think) which they apparently strain through a sifter. Probably should have gone with the White Russian version ($9), but I didn't want to be sloshed on the subway. As for our chasers, we each had a Compost Cookie individually wrapped (see photo) - $1.85 for one, $5 for three. I assume the genesis of the name comes from the multitude of compostable ingredients in it - pretzels, potato chips, graham crackers, rolled oats, ground coffee, chocolate and butterscotch chips. The result is a hipsterrific mash-up - very good, strangely compatible and worth following up with a mail order. I may come back for the Crack Pie, but I'm in no hurry. As always, all of the food here is amazing. This location has one of the best soft serve flavors currently in rotation, the Blueberry Pancake (of course topped with the Pancake Crumble). Definitely way better than the standard Cereal Milk (but most of the alternate flavors are anyway), so you should definitely come to this one to try this flavor. I also finally tried the Grasshopper Pie, which I was previously reluctant to get as I'm not a big fan of mint. As usual though, I was pleasantly surprised with how good it was, like everything else they have here. Definitely not as good as Crack or Candy Bar Pie, but it was still really really good and I would definitely get it again. They have a few benches, and some shelves for some standing room, so there's a decent amount of space to eat your stuff once you get it. It's probably closest in size to the East Village location, but slightly bigger/better since they have the benches here indoors. A main PRO of this location: one of the three that sells the amazingly delicious pork buns. A main CON of this location: it's in hipster central Williamsburg so it's usually packed full with d-bags and girls talking like the annoying girls on that annoying show Girls. Oh, also, I guess if you are a drinker, which I'm not, this location is the only one that offers the "Fancy Shakes", which are the shakes with booze in them. my past experiences at milk bar, whether it was from shipment or in person at their manhattan locations, just weren't the best. i was hesitant to come by this location, because i felt like i would've ended up regretting my purchase once again. but, i was pleasantly surprised this time! -they're available for delivery on caviar and ubereats. -there's a few seats outside where you can eat, but there are no tables. -you can place your order in person at their walk-up window, since they're not letting anyone in the store. -the worker was really friendly! she helped me choose between the pumpkin dulce de leche cake truffles, or the actual slice. -i'm not sure if they accept cash, but i paid with card. 11/27/20 -pumpkin dulce de leche cake slice: i'm a huge fan of pumpkin flavored anything, so i was excited when i found out that this was available for the fall season. they nailed every single part of this cake! it had a moist consistency, and didn't feel too dense. the thick pumpkin dulce de leche filling between each of the 3 cake layers was so delicious; it reminded me of pumpkin pie filling. i appreciated how they didn't skimp out on the cinnamon, but the pumpkin flavor definitely stood out more than the dulce de leche. every bite was perfect, since it had just the right amount of sweetness. the portion was on the small side for an almost unreasonable price of $9.80 including tax; yet, i was still very glad that i tried it out. (4/5) overall, i'm glad that i finally got to have a good experience at a milk bar location. i've also had their cookies shipped directly to my house before; while they were good, 6 cookies for $35 with delivery fees was once again just not worth it. i wouldn't recommend the strawberry shortcake, unfortunately. their crack pie slice is pretty okay, but also overpriced at $6.60. but, out of everything i've tried, the pumpkin dulce de leche cake was undoubtedly my favorite; i recommend that you must try it when if it's available again in the fall! read more

I've been wanting to try Milk Bar for some time - as a big fan of both Christina Tosi & David Chang's culinary genius. The space is a lot smaller than I anticipated, and was totally empty when we stopped by. I guess from watching so many specials and videos on Milk Bar, my expectations were higher for the atmosphere. The cereal milk ice cream and 'crack pie' were my must haves and neither disappointed! Both were delicious, but neither changed my life like I'd anticipated from all the hype in documentaries and specials on Milk Bar. My mom had one of their cookies and also loved it. The staff was super helpful in determining what we were looking for and also were quick for suggestions on places for restrooms in Brooklyn lol so that was a HUGE help! It is a tiny and cute little shop. The staff was so very nice! I purchased the cereal milk mix to bring home. A compost cookie for the road. This past weekend I took a cake class with 7 other girls for my cousin's birthday. I really enjoyed the class! The teachers were super friendly and always there to help and get more supplies if we needed. I was a little bummed that we didn't actually get to make the actual cake, it was just assembling it, but I understand why we couldn't. We made the salted pretzel cake in honor of Super Bowl. It was definitely different (very salty) but the chocolate ganache and the ridiculously good honey butter cream and pretzel crumbles brought everything together. All in all a fun day and I hope to go back soon to make the birthday cake. read more

We were driving down Metropolitan Avenue when I saw a neon sign that simply said "Milk." I did a rapid fire quick Yelp search and saw that there was a Momofuku Milk Bar now open in Brooklyn - what?! A slam of the brakes and swift U-turn later, I'm standing in front of the huge wall-sized chalk board salivating at all the alleged delicious goodies that David Chang offered. I'd been excited to try Chang's Milk Bar as he gets great reviews... despite my having gone to Ko and Noodle Bar and rendered unimpressed by either of their offerings. I'm sorry to say Milk Bar didn't do anything to improve my opinion of the DC empire. I settled on the Pretzel Milk, 3 cookies (Compost, blueberries&cream and cornflake, chocolate&marshamellow) and 2 bagel bombs - an everything bagel with bacon and scallion cream cheese. I found the highly acclaimed Pretzel Milk to be too sweet and caramel-y. I ate the bagel bomb today for breakfast and the bread to be soft still, so that's a plus... but the inside is a big hollow hole with just a schmear of cream cheese. The actual cream cheese is pretty delicious (as most things with bacon frequently are), but there were more bites that were just bread and no cream cheese at all. I haven't had the cookies yet (will update after!), but I have a sneaking suspicion that it may be yummy as the entire plastic cover is greasy from the butter (Mm, butter)... What's with all the Momofuku hype? I really don't get it... read more

I'm upping the rating to 3 stars because I recently tried their Blueberry Cream Cookie and Compost Cookie. Their cookies are individually packaged and ready to go when you order. You can get one for $1.85 or three for $5 (or $5.44 with tax). They're really soft - a little bit too soft because they break too easily. Both were pretty good - not too sugary. The Blueberry one is my favorite - there's real blueberries baked into the cookies. I'll change the rating again after I've tried the famous cereal milk soft serve. I hear they have Blueberry Pie soft serve at the other branches - will have to try that out too! read more
