Not too long into our journey as first time parents did we realize we were not enjoying a single second with our newborn, and instead we were pacing the house for endless hours with a screaming/crying baby. I knew something had to be done because my husband and I were at the brink of insanity (not sleeping for two weeks will do that to you). After much research, I found Desiree, and I have never looked back. I have told Desiree countless times she is worth her weight in cool. Prior to hiring Desiree, we had a baby that would not sleep in her bassinet, would only nap if someone was holding her, and wouldn't really eat. I quite literally coined our baby as the "gassiest, most fussy baby," and I remember Desiree telling me, "No you don't, don't worry I got you." She explained her training program and how things would be done and we fully trusted her and her expertise. Within a few days, we already noticed a difference. Our baby was now napping in her bassinet, was eating, smiling, and RARELY crying. Fast forward a few weeks, our baby is fully sleeping through the night, from 7 pm to 7 am. My husband and I can actually have time together to have dinner and watch a show after she goes down, and it has been the best thing for our marriage. At every corner we turned, Desiree was there. Any time I needed her or expressed any sort of concern, she was there to talk me through it and guide us on what worked best for our baby. She is an absolutely incredible human being and we already know we will use her for our next baby. Since we had such a good experience, we decided to hire Desiree for a year so she can be there throughout the different milestones and guide us on what needs to be done. She makes you feel comfortable the moment you walk into her office. My own personal experience started when Jacqueline was able to identify a tongue, lip and buccal ties on my 2 week old son. She provided me with a plan, exercises, pain protocols and multiple doctor recommendations to give me everything I needed to support my son. For a sleep deprived mama, it was so helpful! She gave me a detailed write up of our visit which was easy to follow. Because of Jacqueline's attention to detail, I was able to incorporate bodywork prior to the revision, feel confident following a homeopathic healing and pain protocol and confidently execute all the exercises and stretches following the revision. She was always available to ease my mind following the procedure as well. I believe the success of revisions rests heavily on the parents shoulders. You have to do it all. You need the right team of 3- a great IBCLC, a knowledgeable chiropractor to do bodywork and someone to do the revision itself. You also need to follow through with follow up appointments and commit to doing ALL the exercises and stretches. Jacqueline is a great team lead to help you manage it all! We purchased amazing car seats for our twins but we couldn't seem to get them to remain properly secured. We have two other kids and have installed infant, convertible, and booster seats. However, these were not working for us. We called the store we purchased the car seats from and they highly recommend Brent as a certified car seat installer. 50-70% of car seats aren't installed properly. You can't put a price tag on your children's safety. It was a very reasonable price. He did an assessment of our van, told us the best configuration for the infant seats along with our son's booster seat, and walked us step-by-step through the installation. Well worth it!

That being said, there are a few things I've reflected on from my time at Blossom and I have recalled a couple experiences that left me feeling uncertain and hurt. I had desired to reduce ultrasound exposure to my baby as much as possible, so I had agreed to the 20wk anatomy scan and a position check around 30wks. I requested that the fetoscope be used rather than Doppler and that no other unnecessary ultrasounds be done. I met HEAVY resistance to this request from each midwife, but particularly from Kassie who pushed my boundaries in an unprofessional way and she came off very judgmental. Rather than explaining risks AND benefits, I felt ostracized, especially when I said "is this okay" and Kassie said "well, no", but with NO ability to explain ultrasound risks to me in an articulate or evidence-based way. I truly am sharing this experience to help Blossom consider a different way to approach something like this if it arises in the future. I ended up having a hospital birth with Kassie and she truly was an amazing midwife, so supportive and a great advocate. One other issue was that after my birth my placenta was sent to pathology because of some concerns about it. Chynna told me about this in my postpartum checkup, but I was never given the report to look over for myself, and she had said that Dr. Nichelle would reach out to me via phone call to review it which didn't happen. Dr. Nichelle was also incredible during my birth and I'm thankful for her care. Again, my perinatal care from Blossom overall was excellent and I wish I had been proactive to address these issues with the midwives in person, but I also feel that it is good to share my experiences for others to know what care is like at Blossom. I do truly believe that each of these midwives care about you and your baby's safety and desire for you to have the birth you want! There is certainly more freedom in your care here than at a hospital! Thank you to my midwives and to Blossom for my experience. I look back on it fondly.
