The millisecond you walk in, the smell of cream, sugar, and brown butter brown sugar waffle cones hits your nose. It's a delicious smell that makes you just want to pull up a chair and stay forever. They have specials that rotate along with their faithful regulars. My favorite one is the rain or shine ice cream! A blend of lemon, lavender, and earl grey tea is just so satisfying! You can sample other flavors and there isn't really one that I dislike. I would be here every day, but my wallet (at $4.50 a scoop) thanks me that I live over in the suburbs! read more

I loved how cozy and simple the building was, and that they allowed you to sample all of the flavors before deciding on one. I got the "city that never sleeps" and "recess" which were both amazing and creamy. the city that never sleeps had a coffee base that gave it a great kick. Guys and gals, this place is located in a hipster trendy part of river oaks but don't be intimidated because ice cream is for all ages and all groups. Waking into any ice cream shop I wonder what can set any ice cream boutique apart, for this one- I truly think it's their unique flavors. We are not talking about chocolate, vanilla, etc. we have flavors like the city that never sleeps-coffee with chocolate covered pretzels here. The thai tea was delicious, and the butter pecan with caramel was truly a texture experience. With a little crunch, with a little depth, and an even balance of sweet and salty. I like the ice cream flavors here because they are familiar yet innovative- the tres leches had pieces of the cake in it. Alright, now for the service, try as many flavors as you would like, very courteous and delighted to help you out on this ice cream expedition. Good ice cream, very creamy! The bad part is the scoops are so small. The first time I was here the employees gave such small scoops that I believe it was the owner had to go and add more ice cream to our cups herself. Yesterday was my second time there and the scoops were just as small. Ordered the peanut butter cup and I forget the name but it was a fruit loops cereal milk ice cream. The ice cream was already made and then they added the fruit loop.. They gave one little tiny scoop of fruit loops so there was only a few pieces of cereal in the ice cream. Both of the scoops I got barely had any of the mixtures in it so we felt like we were just eating some vanilla ice cream. For almost 5$ a scoop they need to be filling the cup up. I have never been to an ice cream place that gave such small scoops, especially for their price point. I also like my ice cream to packed with the toppings and fillings that they make but this place lacks that. The owner and employees are all pretty nice but only 3 stars for their ice cream. read more

This place is awesome. It's usually pretty crowded, but that's just because it's so good, and we haven't had an issue finding a place to sit. My recent favorite has been the Heart of Glass, and my husband and I both love their cones. The one thing I don't love is that a lot of their flavors have nuts, and I'm just not into nuts. Their ONLY chocolate flavor has pecans, so that's also a reason I'm not here more often. While my waistline is better off for that, I'm hopeful they'll at least add one more chocolate option to the rotation that does not have nuts. Parking isn't plentiful per se (this is Montrose after all), but we've never had an issue finding a spot on the street. read more

I think they have less than 10 flavors at a time and they're happy to let you try all of them if you so wish! I can't really describe all of the flavors to you, so I'd suggest trying whatever looks good! The horchata and rain or shine were my favorite though because the flavors weren't as sweet. The ice cream itself is quite creamy and well made, but I think I'll have to dock a point because it's a little on the expensive side for such a small amount of ice cream. I just want to update my review to say that the restaurant has updated the portion sizes since I was here last, and they pretty much doubled the size of the scoops. Now, one single scoop is pretty much the equivalent of two of the former scoop sizes, so you are getting more bang for your buck, which is always good. read more

I want to go back to try all of the flavors. The flavors offered are unique and the waffle cone is so so good. That's all you smell from the outside in and its really inviting. I had the strawberry chesecake and the dulce de leche horchata and i really enjoyed both. The flavors have weird names that don't describe the ingredients so I can see the ordering process being slow and causing a line if I went during a more crowded time. The prices are average for a dessert place in this area. I would definitely return to have other flavors. read more

Great neighborhood ice cream shop. Husband and I decided to stop in here on a whim as we were driving by. The staff is friendly and helpful. You can taste test any of the ice creams. Instead of having basic flavors and then adding on toppings, this parlor takes creative ice cream bases and adds the toppings in before hand. This may not leave everyone getting as much of a selection but I can almost guarantee you everyone can find something they like. Cute shop with somewhat difficult street parking but maybe that's just because I'm a spoiled suburbanite. The flavors are different and have an Asian twist but not so different that it's weird. I had the earl gray one which I think might be their signature, and it was really delicious!! I will definitely be back since this time was kind of a fast trip just to taste the ice cream. There's a lot of seating and long benches for big groips. Loved this little ice cream shop. The line wasn't too bad-it moved fairly quickly. I feel like there's a lot of pressure not try too many flavors because people are waiting. I actually like that...just go with a flavor and take a risk, people! I liked that their ice creams are filled with the toppings already. Makes it more interesting. I had the oatmeal/peanut butter and the coffee/peanut butter flavors. Very delicious and great texture. I'd recommend the oatmeal one for sure!! The inside was nice with some bar stools and tables. Went here with my lady. Split a brown butter waffle cone with a split of two flavors of ice cream. It was great. I love that it's like choose this or that finished flavors. It's not eleventy-five thousand mix ins. Let the pros create the flavors and you enjoy them. Pro tip- get the waffle cone. It's warm and softens the ice cream in a very good way. Coming here on a Friday night after dinner, I didn't have any issues with parking despite being in the montrose area. The place is nice and staff were polite. Prices are reasonable, but more expensive than standard ice cream for sure. Now for what really matters: The ice cream. They have some interesting flavors like rain or shine (what I got), reminiscent of Lick's Honest Ice Cream in Austin. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of that, but the flavors I tried tasted good enough that I didn't care. But what makes the ice cream so good is how creamy it is. The only knock on it for me was that it was too sweet. It seemed that every flavor was just loaded with sugar. But if that's how you like it, that can be another positive! Often a problem that occurs for me with ice cream in general is the first bite is always tasty, but overtime with each bite the overall sweetness begins to build up and it becomes too sugary to eat. However milk+sugar does amazing job balancing the overall sweetness of its flavors so that the ice cream is never over-bearing to point you never want to stop eating it. Found this place while searching for late night ice cream. It was sooooooo good. They close at midnight on fridays and saturdays so if you want some ice cream at 11pm like we did, give this place a try!! My girlfriend and I both got a waffle cone with a scoop of the "Rain or shine" flavor. It was delicious. Not too sweet, and the lavender flavor was great. Also the cone was so good!! My favorite was the heart of glass which is a vanilla based ice cream with chunks of blondies. Their waffle cones are delicious too made with brown butter and brown sugar. Not sure how this place has five stars but I literally came here due to the reviews. Once again Yelp let me down. First off I dig the decor of this place or lack of decor. It's super clean and modern. The lighting could be a bit better but I think they have the extremely bright LED spotlights for working behind the counter. This place has wall murals for those who Instagram. Back to the ice cream. I tried three before deciding to go with City that never sleeps. The three I tried were Rain or shine, City that never sleeps, and Cereal milk. The disappointing part and why I docked this place 1 star is that whatever topping that is mixed into the ice cream are stale. For example the pretzels in the city that never sleeps and the frosted flakes in the cereal milk. This is the reason most ice cream shops do mix-ins after the fact. The second star was docked for their ice cream cones. They weren't strong enough to hold up my ice cream. They were also rolled very big so I had very little ice cream to cone ratio. Yes I sound like a snob but if I'm paying 6.50 for one scoop I think I should have enough ice cream to start with the ice cream and not the cone. Another thing I noticed was my friend and I both ordered one scoop but he got twice as much ice cream as me. Odd. One a good note the ice cream at this joint is absolutely perfect. It's super rich and very creamy with no freezer burn. Time will tell if the quality remains the same. Overall good ice cream but nothing exciting enough for me to give it five stars. DH tasted a few before making his decision, but I just went with the one that sounded best to me. A perfect place to take your special person to after you've stuffed your face with savoury foods. If you're like me, I (almost always) need to finish the meal with something sweet. We got here around 1-2PM on a Saturday and were able to snag a parking spot in the small lot that is behind the building. My boyfriend and I walked over and waited a bit in line; they have some menus that you can look at, which is nice. The names for their ice creams are so interesting, but what's more eye catching is when you read the descriptions of the flavour combinations... it's honestly really unique! I ended up ordering a split brown butter waffle cone (which was absolutely amazing by itself) with Thai Tea and the Strawberry Almond Cheesecake. Both so good! I think my favourite was the latter, since you got a nice smooth flavour from the almond, but a brightness with the strawberry and the richness from the cheesecake. My boyfriend had a split cup with the Cereal Milk and seasonal flavour, Hello, Summer! The Hello, Summer! was good, but the Cereal Milk was just soooo delicious, especially with the frosted flake pieces. Like they said, life is too short to be basic with vanilla.
