Fun little ice cream spot with a colorful, playful vibe. The service was quick , the place was clean. And if you go, do yourself a favor and get the caramel sauce topping. esp if paired with vanilla . It takes anything you order to the next level. I'd visit again, and recommend.
Strawberry matcha and pumpkin cheesecake double scoop! I thought the strawberry would be on the sweeter side but still yummy. The pumpkin cheesecake was exactly that, thoroughly enjoyed the cheesecake pieces. Lovely service, he let me sample the whole store (jk)!
I appreciate how unique the flavors of ice cream that are offered here including vegan flavors. The staff were super nice and let me try four samples before I decided on my two scoops: strawberry matcha and brown sugar cookie dough brownie). I plan to go back and try even more flavors
This ice cream shop is located in Rice Village on Amherst where there's a row of metered parking right in front of the shop, but also complimentary 2-hour rooftop garage parking just above. The shop has a simple layout with only three small tables and a restroom down the left hallway. On a weekday afternoon, there weren't a lot of customers and only a few individuals came and went as we were enjoying our ice cream inside. The staff were enthusiastic and greeted us upon entrance and offered samples on any of their ice creams. They have many classic flavors as well as unique ones, which were tempting to get. There were a few flavors that sounded really good, but were too light on the bold flavor the ice cream was trying to show (for example, the big face coffee affogato and the mango sticky rice). Since Van Leeuwen Ice Cream stemmed from NYC and is known for its rich, velvety texture and double-egg based dairy ice cream, I expected more. However, the praline butter cake and earl grey tea flavors were tasty and enticing, though I settled for their strawberry matcha. That strawberry flavor was natural tasting and slightly tart yet sweet, while the matcha was creamy yet a bit earthy... a well balanced scoop! The sugar cone was nice and crispy and not overwhelmingly sweet. We dressed the praline butter cake scoop in a cup with a salted caramel drizzle, which was indulgent. The salted caramel drizzle was a bit overpowering the ice cream, but still a good combination. The menu is structured to serve ice cream by the single scoop ($6.95), double scoop ($8.25), or triple scoop ($9.25), so the more you get the better bang for your buck. It seems like a fancier ice cream experience overall as the prices are more than the typical shop around. Additionally, the ice cream can be served in a cup or a cone if you prefer, with sugar cones complimentary, but waffle cones come with a charge. There are 10+ vegan ice creams in store for those who would like dairy-free alternatives and a plethora of toppings like sauces, crumbles, and drizzles. There are also sundaes on their menu which are perfect for sharing or fine for oneself (if you please). I would say Van Leeuwen has some attractive flavors and good quality ice creams I'd love to come back for sometime. Note: If you're a health care worker and show the staff your badge upon checkout, there's a discount. Plus, on Tuesdays, the first topping is free.
This was my first time trying Van Leeuwen ice cream. I've seen the carons at the store but never actually picked it up. The first thing I noticed was that the shop smelled amazing. The display of the cartons were also arranged nicely and looked very pretty. I tried the praline butter cake ice cream with salted caramel sauce in a cup and my friend had the strawberry matcha on an ice cone. I enjoyed the pecan pieces and the lightpu salted flavor of the caramel. My friend said that the strawberry matcha was a good mix. The staff was also very friendly. My girly and I stopped by Van Leeuwen Ice Cream and had the best experience! The young man at the counter was seriously so sweet and helpful amazing customer service all around. We happened to go on a day where you get a free topping, which was such a nice surprise. I'm not usually big on sweets, but their ice cream was honestly incredible. Super creamy, rich, and just the right amount of sweet it hit the spot, especially in this hot Texas sun. We both left so happy and already want to go back. Highly recommend if you're looking for a treat that actually lives up to the hype!!! Bxtches love ice cream.
I thought it was a really good ice cream place! It's on the pricer side but they had a lot of custom flavors. There were around 20 flavors. I ordered the peanut butter brownie honeycomb. It was really good but really sweet. I wouldn't be able to eat more than a small. Expect a long wait. At peak hours, especially when I went, it took me 20 minutes to order. There was only 2 people working at that time and around 30 people who came in and out do the store while I was there. Limited seating in the area or in the store. Max one bench outside and four 2 seaters indoor.

Definitely share an ice cream parfait with that special someone....or buy them their own parfait. A delicious sweet treat.
I love that Van Leeuwen always has a variety of vegan ice cream options. I got the Planet Earth which had blue spirulina and pieces of matcha cake inside. I topped it off with the vegan chocolate fudge and this was such a treat! The ice cream itself was bursting with flavor. This one is seasonal so I'm hoping to get back in time to try again before it departs. Always have had great service here.

I went last week on Monday night around 10 pm. It was pretty empty. The workers were very nice and took explaining the flavors and provided tips on things like the order of how I should stack the flavors I got, which I appreciated. The ice cream was delicious- my favorite was the strawberry shortcake.
I got the white chocolate raspberry brownie ice cream in a cup. I feel like it was a little pricy at first~$8 a scoop. You can tell it's real dairy and I enjoyed the brownie bits in this ice cream. There's not that much seating indoors, so be prepared to grab and go. I appreciate the variety of flavors. I would go back only if my friends wanted to go. The staff was kind and quick to get my ice cream.
No different than what you would get from the store other than the few topping selections. They were out of a lot of flavors but service was a bit slow but more so from other customers being indecisive. Place was clean.
This place currently has us in a chokehold! My husband and I stopped by on our anniversary and have been having this ice cream just about every other weekend lol. The service here was great and I loved how you can ask for samples before committing into a scoop. My husband hasn't shut up about the mango sticky rice ice cream since we've had it. I scarfed this down so fast, the Hojicha ice cream was amazing; creamy, just the right amount of sweetness & I could taste the roasted tea flavor! Since Van Leeuwen is in Rice Village, parking can be a little tough, but I managed to snag a spot on the street, which is free for about 2 hours! Seating is also limited, so this is more of a to-go establishment. While there is outdoor seating nearby, in this Houston seat, I wouldn't even think twice about doing that. I believe buying the pints is cheaper, but $7-$8 for a singular scoop was criminal... You can definitely get more value for your money with 2-3 scoops, but I wasn't feeling too glutinous the day I visited. read more

The earl grey flavor at Van Leeuwen is addicting! I first came across this brand at HEB, where pints were sold. I wanted to visit the store to explore other flavors, and was amazed with the variety. I was warmly greeted as I walked in the door, and offered samples - great customer service! I tried the black cherry and honeycomb flavors, decided to get a cone with earl grey though, it's too good! I also picked up a couple pints, which is when I realized their pints are 14oz, not 16oz like other brands, and cost $11 per. This was my mistake, I should have checked the menu/price list. These pints were $5 or $5.5 at HEB (what a deal there). Just a small FYI read more

It was the first time visiting here and I loved the fact that they have vegan options! I tried almost every vegan sampling options and I liked the dark cholesterol fudge brownie the most as it wasn't too sweet and it was fine for me. Such good ice cream, they also have vegan flavors for those who have allergies. There is a variety of different ice cream flavors and this place is one of my fav go to ice cream spots. This place also has their own ice cream tubs that you can buy, which is nice. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. There isn't seating inside but since it is in rice village you will find a ton of seating outdoors. read more

"A life without anything good is bad" is their motto here and I completely agree. I find good here, so I have been hitting Van Leeuwen up anytime I am near one. This particular location is the closest to my part of town and easy to get to. It is usually our go to after dinner spot for something sweet. I have only ever come later in the evening so parking is plentiful but metered. I honestly don't know the meter policy here so park at your own risk or throw some money into it. The parking garage nearby is free for 2 hours. Customer service has always been on point here which always keeps me coming back. What I like about this place is their unique flavors. They push the bar with some of their limited releases such as the Hidden Valley Ranch or Kraft Mac & Cheese flavors. I'm an adventurous eater, but I will leave that one for you ranch and cheese lovers. I'm also a creature of habit when it comes to ice cream. Cookies and Cream all day for me. This place has made me curious and has me ordering new things every time I come. Don't get me wrong, I still get the cookies and cream in addition to something new. My newest discovery and probably my fave here is the Praline Butter Cake. It has pralines along with pieces of brown butter cake and it is divine. Don't sleep on some of their fruity flavors or even their vegan options. They let you sample as much as you want before committing to anything. There truly is something to please everyone here. Van Leeuwen is a national chain of gourmet ice cream, sold both at grocery stores and at dedicated retail shops across the country. This location is at Rice Village in Houston Texas, and was fairly busy when we stopped by on a Saturday night. It actually might be the most expensive, non-local ice cream we have ever bought: $8.25 for one scoop. It's only 10 cents more for a double scoop, so obviously they really are encouraging the two scooper (scoops are average, so a two scooper ends up being the same size as a one scooper at some other ice cream shop...but you get to pick different flavors). Wife and I shared a two scooper, flavors being dark chocolate fudge brownie and mint chip. The dark chocolate was excellent, and the fudge chunks were small. The mint chip was OK, and acted as a nice counter balance to all that heavy chocolate. They have a limited number of flavors, but that's OK...ice cream IS better when it is fresher, so appreciate the turn around for each barrel. My nephew wasn't as impressed with his strawberry ("not much flavor")...I'm wondering if they served him the vegan version by mistake? There was limited seating inside, but luckily found a small table in the corner. It was still very hot outside (even after the sun went down), so appreciated that we could eat it inside. the ice cream here is so rich in flavor. They have a large variety of flavors! And they are not basic flavors either. Price is fair. Small seating area inside. I love how the have to go pints that you can take home. My favorite flavor is the brown sugar cookie dough chunk! They even have some dog friendly ice cream to take home in a pint size! My dog LOVED it! It's in rice village so you do have to park in designated garage areas or spaces. But you can easily walk to it! Near shake shack and an ear piercing parlor. Service was friendly and even let us sample a few flavors before making a decision. Clean environment. read more

Great lil ice cream place. My friend and I were looking for nearby dessert, and this place was nearby. There's a lot of options in terms of flavors, suitable for any taste. They use coconut milk for some of the non dairy and even vegan options. I got the tea flavor and non dairy strawberry shortcake. Both were satisfying! The interior was bright and clean. Definitely worth another visit! Yes, you will probably have to pay for parking, but that's the unfortunate price to pay for businesses there! read more
