I had to have landed on a bad day because all of these other reviews sound so great!! Stopped in for a chicken Caesar wrap today and it just didn't do what it needed to do. I LOVED that it was like a burrito, uncut and grilled, but beyond that this wasn't so hot. The lettuce and parm were solid and I LOVE the inclusion of a cruton, but the chicken and dressing were a little funky. I'm sad it took me so long to come here. What a phenomenal spot. I stepped in on a Sunday afternoon. Hours posted on IG were different than at the store- they closed two hours earlier than posted. We would have definitely stayed longer. I got a hot chocolate and it was one of the best I've had in Philly by far. This shop is cute, clean and within walking distance of Penn Treaty Park. The staff is friendly and approachable and willing to give recommendations if it's your first time in. I like that certain food options were named after popular artists; fitting the theme of the shop. I had a medium iced latte with oat milk and a shot of coconut flavor. It was made perfectly. I like my coffee averagely sweet & this wasn't too bitter but it wasn't overly sugary either. I opted for the soft boy breakfast sandwich and it did not disappoint at all. Milk crate cafe is a great spot in fishtown to grab coffee. On the corner of Girard the inside is decorated with record albums. They also have a walkup window which is convenient if you have your pet with you. Coffee was delicious and the staff was friendly and didn't have to wait too long for my drink. This is one of those places that makes you wonder why your neighborhood doesn't have one of these (ie not a generic location). Personality. Character. This place has it. I love the orange couches. It's hard not to miss the overall theme of music with all the vinyls while the music hits you the moment you walk in. All the while it has a warm and cozy feel to it. I was sitting by the window watching the world pass by but notice so many others socializing or working. As for the order, the usual - an ice latte with some cinnamon. But after 15 mins I asked them for an update. They quickly got annoyed and said it still isn't ready yet. Gave the satisfaction that it was pretty busy but customers who just came in and order got their order before me already. After 45 mins I asked again and one of them said it'll be right up until 5 mins later where the whole order got cancelled. I didn't want to cause a scene but the staff didn't have a care in the world about our order or our patients. One of them even whispered "don't worry about them they'll be fine their order will be ready when it be ready. If they leave that's on them it's already paid for". Ate here today for the first time and was delighted with French toast special that brought back memories of carnival funnel cake, avacado toast that didn't skimp on the avacado , no frills eggs and potatoes with onions that were perfectly seasoned, and fluffy buttermilk pancakes. A generous portion of maple syrup, too! Truly a brunch that rivaled any other in Fishtown- plus great sunny ambiance with rock and roll vibes and solid vinyl collection to browse. This is a very Gen X coffee shop and record store. As a Gen Xer, I love it. Staff were really friendly (unlike 90s Gen X coffee shop staff) and the decor give the place a cool vibe. They offer interesting events and live DJs. They have a nice, organized record selection. Coffee is strong, and the food is good. I recommend the breakfast burrito for a satisfying meal on the go. Bonus points for a walk-up window option so you can stop by for coffee or breakfast to go with dogs in tow (or kids on scooters, as I saw on a visit). read more

I wish i got a picture of our sandwich. It was a brioche bun and bacon egg arugula. I split it with my husband since it was quite big! We both ordered iced coffees and went back for seconds. Yum, really enjoy Milkcrate for breakfast and their chai latte...I dream about it. Great overall vibes inside, ample seating for eating, working, whatever your heart desires, and they have a couple tables outside for those of us with doggos. Their chorizo tacos are awesome and we also really enjoyed the chicken cheesesteak. The BLT was pretty good - a solid, normal, BLT with nice big slices of bacon. I also got another sandwich pictured but forgot what it was called - was pretty tasty but the chicken was a teeny bit dry. Definitely recommend coming here for breakfast. Soft Boy was slightly smaller and had way less arugula than I expected and was hoping for (let an adult get their greens please). But it was still really delicious to eat. Super cute coffee shop that plays awesome music all day long. My boyfriend and I came here on a rainy Wednesday. We needed a place to get some work done between checking out of our AirBnb and going to the airport. We decided to go to Milkcrate Cafe after looking up a couple options (this seemed to have outlets available for laptops and free Wi-Fi). There is some seating in the first room and a combination of 2-tops and booths in the second room. I found it to have a really inviting and chill atmosphere. We were able to grab a booth and I ordered a latte and an Avocado Toast and asked if I could add an egg (they said yes). The drinks are perfect for that caffeine boost and the food does not disappoint. I love this place and will definitely be back. Just a note for anyone planning to work out of here - the music can be a touchhh too loud if you need to hop on a work call, but seemed manageable. read more

I visited with resident family during a trip to Philly this past weekend. I started with only the avocado toast . Unlike the toast I've gotten elsewhere with barely a layer of avocado or slices, this lightly toasted thick cut whole grain bread was slathered in it! Also had the obvious tomatoes, ground black pepper, the occasional pop of a salt flake, and yummy olive oil. It was so good I walked back over to try the coffee! My cortado with an extra shot was expertly made. Wish I lived closer so I could get back there and try a few more menu items. Highly recommend a visit to all who can get there! read more

I've gone here a few times and its always busy. The food is okay, same with the coffee. I love the decor though, its a nice atmosphere. But its nothing to write home about personally. Everytime I go I have to struggle to get a table, a few times I went and didnt get one. My friend frequents Milkcrate at least twice a week. When we decided to meet at this Fishtown spot for a Sunday morning of coffee, carbs, and philosophical conversation, I could immediately see why this was her Central Perk, if you will. (They even have an orange couch!) This is a vinyl record store/ café/ coffee shop with cozy tables, lined walls of unique records, and the coolest jams playing at just the right volume. There's lots of seating - it's much bigger than it appears from the street. There's a cool mix of Fishtown's finest hipsters and long-time locals, making for peak people watching. I was craving a day of journaling, doodling, and of COURSE caffeine. I was not disappointed. I ordered the Bagella (everything bagel, plain cream cheese, tomato, cucumber, and avocado) and a small latte and the total was $9. Not horribly priced, about what you'd expect for hipster coffee shop. The baristas were all SO friendly, I honestly felt like we were all best friends despite just meeting. I was even given an extra shot of espresso in my latte at no charge (I consented) - which resulted in me going on 10 mile jaunt through the city later that afternoon. Win, win. Hipster vibes run by really genuine people. Their slogan, "Philadelphia's All Day Cafe" means they operate for coffee in the morning and cocktails in the evening. I've been here for breakfast on a weekend as well as drinks on a Saturday night. When I came for drinks with my boyfriend, I ordered a cucumber gin cocktail that was refreshing and affordable. Interesting selection of beer. The vibes are immaculate - crates of old vinyl line the walls with houseplants crawling out of old coffee cans. Sometimes I judge a bar by it's bathroom (hear me out) and Milkcrate's is just ~cool~ with it's walls peppered with eclectic stickers. The low-lighting, orange leather booths and quirky music set the perfect vibes for a "my-friend-from-out-of-town-is visiting" excursion. Let them know their city could never. read more

Great to spend the morning in Fishtown having breakfast at the Milkcrate Cafe at the corner of E. Columbia and Girard. Interesting enviro with a huge record collection spanning music of the late 20th/early 21st Centuries. I didn't make it down to the vinyl shop in the basement (just read about it in their Yelp page), but as a holder of old wax, I wish I had. Next time. Still, the cafe is part of the gentrification of this part of Philly and is in the perfect location to take advantage of it. It is a bit dusty around the edges, but with La Colombe coffee holding court and a good kitchen, it offers a mellow sitdown and strong java flow, with comfort food designed for the pioneering spirit of the surrounding neighborhood. Easy to spend hours there sipping joe and doing light sledding on your screen. Loved the caffeine and found the well stuffed "Flying Breakfast Burrito Brother" a large tasty bite and chew. It was hot and moist and almost more than I could eat; but I managed to slay that dragon, and spend a few extra minutes watching the street life on Girard Avenue on a cold sunny morn. It would be great to have a home on one of the narrow streets of this old revivalist corner of P.delph, but until that day arrives, Milkcrate will just have to be that place I can feel at home. read more
