The descriptions of the menu items sounded AMAZING so I couldn't wait to try brunch here. I just wish the food we were served lived up to the food as it sounded on paper.... A few highlights: We started by sharing the Jalapeño cheddar corn fritters with maple butter and the potato pierogies. I was looking forward to the spicy/sweet combination of the fritters but if you are concerned about heat, do not be- for $9 we got what ended up tasting and looking like 2 small corn pancakes. They were ok. The pierogies were oily and completely tasteless- $11 for three. Things looked up for the main dishes. I got the chicken and waffles which was ironically more spicy than the Jalapeño corn fritter. They did cover everything in syrup so by the time I got it everything was a bit soggy, but the taste was there-this is the only food item I would reorder and specify the syrup on the side. The best menu item by far was the lattes. They were creamy and delicious and they had some fun flavors. I ordered an iced latte with dark chocolate and it was amazing. Despite my repeated attempts to secure a reservation (for 6 people as is required by their reservation instructions on their website) and follow-up, I received zero response to my request. This seems like pretty bad business practice and based on other reviews, looks like good business practices seem to be a challenge for them. There is also no phone number for this place. I'll give one star for the decor, as others said, its very chic and looks like its out of a catalog. As far as everything else goes, I wouldn't be surprised if the owners never worked in a restaurant before. A lot of issues going on here. First of all, its super tiny, when you walk in, there is no host stand, you're pretty much walking into the coffee bar and patrons dining right next to you. We sit down for 5/10 minutes before the server comes over and tells us the menu is online. Which is fine, but there is no sign indicating the menu is online, no QR code or anything to find the menu, you're just supposed to google and find it yourself. I got a western omelette, comes with potatoes. Does not come with bread. Portion sizes are very small. You could get more food for a better price at a diner that would taste way better. Food was also under-seasoned. My kids got pancakes and the bottom was burnt. I got brioche bread as a side and that was also burnt and did not taste good. Other issues.. we asked for water. 15 minutes go by and we didn't get any. Ask again. The server says "oh yea, sorry, we ran out of cups. Theres some in the dishwasher now." Soooo they can afford nice decor but not water cups?? Another server came over and brought coffee mugs for us to pour water in but we didn't use them right away (was helping my toddler eat) and she took it off the table. Coffee also took forever to get to the table. They are cash only which is super annoying. Also, if you have kids- they do not carry high chairs or booster seats. My first time here, I was jammed into an overly crowded room touching elbows with the person sitting next to me. No big deal, it's a small place. I ordered the apple French toast. I wait an hour and a half for it. It comes out ice cold. I send it back asking for it to be reheated as I didn't want to wait another hour for a new one. Waitress tells me "no problem" and then I watch them throw it away. They have to make it fresh. Maybe 10 minutes goes by I get a new one. The batter in the French toast is raw. I can taste the raw egg. I don't eat it. I'm a person for second chances, so I go back. Not as terrible, but our food was not giving. The waitresses are constantly at the front gossiping and on their phones instead of tending to their tables. I work in food service, I go on my phone, I get it. But you don't do it in front of customers and you definitely don't do it when your tables are in need of your service and you're ignoring them. It's over priced, the food is mid, and it's extremely jam packed. As a person with anxiety and claustrophobia, that was a big problem for me. I won't ever go back here. read more

First time here, sat outside because it was packed and really loud. Service needed a lot of work. Brought a jug of water but no drinking glass. Had to take silverware from the table next to me, had to ask for napkins. Ordered coffee and had to ask for cream and sugar. Ordered the chicken and waffles - the chicken was good but the portion was tiny - a single thin piece of chicken about 5x3 inches. Crunchy and tasty, but way too small. The waffle was weird - first, it was also tiny - maybe 5-6 inches. It was dry - definitely had been pre-cooked - cold and had this crunchy sugary crust. Really not good. No syrup or butter to help the waffle out, just a drizzle of a hot sauce syrup that wasn't enough. The bacon was cold and not rendered - fatty and chewy - and at $5 for 3 slices it better be amazing and it was not at all good. Hard to mess up bacon, folks. I wound up paying $30 bucks and really felt like I'd barely eaten. I had a slice and a half of bacon - avoiding the nasty bits. The dry waffle was about 1/3 eaten. I ate the chicken, but it was so small - none of this added up to a satisfying meal. I was disappointed. I wanted it to be much better. For $30 I can't imagine ever going back. read more

There is no way the owners have ever worked in the restaurant industry prior to owning this place. We waited 45 minutes for a table and we would've been better off going somewhere else. The food was not great and not worth the price. We waited long for the table due to them telling us people reserved tables ahead of us but when we called a week prior asking for a reservation they said they don't take them. The owners are extremely rude and when we were explaining how we were upset about the reservation issue they said "you need to calm down" even though we never raised our voice. They are a disorganized mess and food takes forever as well. Very nice looking place but totally overpriced. 60 dollars for 3 sandwiches with iced coffee at lunch time. Service was so slow and all the food came out stone cold. 25 mins just to get coffee and 45 for the food. I ordered the farmer Benedict and it was ice cold and turned into a pile of mush by time it got to me. I normally don't do this but I sent it back and got the prosciutto sandwich which was hot only because they expedited it for me specially. I get that they are new but they weren't even packed and busy when I went, so maybe this will be fixed. Also, more lunch options would be appreciated on the menu, just for variety's sake. read more

Honestly this place tries way to hard. The menu is so bad if you're not a sweets person there's literally nothing to get. Can't just get basic pork Roll egg n cheese. Half of the dishes are spicy, and the other half are way to sweet. The staff was super nice tho they had no problem replacing my meal with basic scrambled eggs. I loved everything about this place the outside it self is beautiful and inside is just as cute as I could imagine! And the food was outstanding loved everything about it! I loved how the tables looked and also the pillows and walls looked amazing! I got the bacon and banana waffles and wow! Waffles was so good bacon so flavorful and banana were sweet and little sugar like with the syrup. My girlfriend got the truffle egg sandwich and she loved it muffin was amazing. Not sure why the ratings on this place are so low. The food was so freaking delicious when i went. So much flavor and creativity. I had a PUMPKIN SPICE AND EVERYTHING NICE LATTE - wasn't a big fan of that but then again i don't drink lattes. I had a SMOKED BACON, FONTINA CHEDDAR CHEESE OMELET - it was so good , the eggs were so fluffy ! I also had PEACH AND BACON PANCAKES and it was the best thing i had in a long time , it had the right amount of sweetness and the bacon was the perfect touch ! My friend had the chicken and waffles and the chicken was so well seasoned and well cooked . Be aware that this place is cash only , a lot of people complained about the tight space but that didn't bother me , i went there to eat not to have a party . I also noticed in the menu that they had chef of the month , so I'm not sure if they change chefs every so often and that's why the complains about the food. The actual chicken was cooked very well, but the waffle was overly sugary. The main downsides was the slow service, getting the wrong drinks, and there being bits of towel rags in our water jug and cups. I understand places are short staffed but this is an easy spot check. I gave this place two chances because it's so cute and it was so close to being good. Got the chicken and waffles the first time, the waffle was undercooked and the chicken was black. It was still surprisingly juicy and flavorful once you picked off the burnt crust. This time we tried the chicken salad sandwich which again was so close to being good, the bread was good, but it said it had cranberries and walnuts in it and I had two cranberries and a few walnuts on the entire sandwich. The Farmer's Benedict came out with very runny egg whites and again, black chicken. Then tried the French toast which was so undercooked as to look completely raw in some spots and was very rubbery. Everything came out just barely warm. The potential is there, but the execution was terrible. Please get a new chef who can do this menu justice. read more

I heard about Milkweed through friends and family on the area making great recommendations. I came to Yelp to see a less than 4 star rating and come to find people complaining largely about business ownership /operations. Don't let these steer you away! The food was fantastic on top of the "instagramable" vibe. We ordered the cream donuts as a starter, the chicken and waffles were tasty and the perfect portion. I drove from center city Philly and can say that this is super competitive with some of the best Philly brunch experiences I've had in this price range. And our waitress gave us space and time but was attentive to meeting our needs on a Sunday morning. Great small business, I'm sure with time the earlier reviews on service will work themselves out. Super nice place. Got a latte, very good. I also got the poké tuna and avocado stack benedict, it was good, but bland. When i think of a 'poké' i think of flavor, sauces, maybe green onion. All it had was sesame seeds sprinkled on top. It wasn't gross just bland and the hollandaise it came with didn't have a strong flavor either. It was 90 degrees outside but 80 inside on the thermostat so No A/C? There had to be 10 flies around our tables. One landed in my waffle syrup so needless to say I didn't even get to eat that. Water was room temp/no ice. Food was underwhelming. Service sucked. The waitresses never come around. My friends and I went to this restaurant for their Galentines day event on Saturday, February 19th. We had a reservation time for 230. My one friend arrived at 230 and the rest of us got here at about 235 because of some traffic. We drove about 40 minutes to get to this place and we have been looking forward for it for months. We had to wait to be seated and were basically squished at the entrance because there is absolutely no room to move around. The dj was so loud you couldn't hear yourself think. We finally got seated around 245-250. We sat and about 5-10 minutes later we got to look over the menu and order. Not even 5 minutes after ordering a women who I assume is one of the owners comes up to our table. She basically tells us to try to figure out what we want to eat and order because there is another event of people coming in after us. My initial thought was, wow we just sat down and now we are being rushed to order, eat and leave. In my opinion that is very rude and unprofessional. We ordered our food, ate and talked a little bit and had a decent time. You could barely hear eachother talking because of the music being so loud. We could barely even hear our waitress. Now our waitress was very polite and super friendly. The owners not so much. One person in our party didn't even get to finish all of her food because of us being rushed out. The owner at one point was walking around with her winter coat on like she was ready to leave. I watched her literally tell the waitresses to give the checks to all their tables even if they aren't done. Now it's one thing to just hand us the check when you know we are finishing up, but when we are in the middle of eating? Why? We asked for a box and the box was dirty. So we had to wait and ask for another. By the time we got the box the workers were literally clearing out every table and moving everything around for the next event. The people for the next event were inside with food baskets, goodie bags & trays of things. While we are still sitting down trying to enjoy our time at this place! To me that is just crazy. By the time we sat at our table, ordered, ate and left, it was a total of 40 minutes. 40 minutes, that's all. We were really looking forward to taking pictures at all the photo ops that were getting posted on the instagram page of the restaurant. We go to walk out the back door and they're literally carrying everything inside. Every single photo op was being brought in. We didn't even get the chance to take any pictures. We were looking forward to coming to this place before they even opened and I can honestly say I will probably never be back. Why would they book a private event knowing they're doing galentines day events? Why not wait and give yourself time in between the events. If you're going to give customers a time limit, then maybe state that before they even have the chance to make their reservation. DO NOT GO TO THIS POORLY ORGANIZED RESTAURANT ON A WEEKEND. We were told it would be a 45 minute wait. After 1 hour of waiting, we go back in to follow up and they said they had 2 large reservations come in that they didn't know about so they are not sure how much longer it will be. I'm not sure how you are unaware of reservations made for that day, but they had our phone number and could have at least called us to let us know it would be much longer than 45 minutes. I had a terrible experience here. I went to a Galentine's brunch that we pre-booked and paid 20 dollars a head. Not sure for what. Everyone was EXTREMELY on top of each other. No where for coats. We had a 2:30 reservation and while we were waiting for one person of our party, they said we had to be out by 3:30!!!!! So rude. We then ordered a small meal just to be polite and the food was terrible. Never got an apology for the sheer rudeness. The overall appearance was adorable and very clean. I was very disappointed by the service or lack of, and my meal. I ordered the Short Rib Cheddar omelet which came with breakfast potatoes. The breakfast potatoes were fine but there was a big lump in the omelet which I presumed to be short ribs not shredded. I unfolded the omelet to find a ball of fat/lard the size of my palm, with really no other meat just cheese. I instantly lost my appetite and called the waitress over. I asked her for a small plate to discard the fat, she was also grossed out but did NOTHING but take the small plate away I slid the fat onto. I didn't even touch the omelet. At the end when she came with the bill and took our plates she did say sorry that was gross but never told a manager or anyone and I didn't See anyone to talk to. Was very excited to enjoy a fun day with my daughters . We booked a month in advance and was shocked when I arrived . We had reservations for 2:30 and when we sat down we were told that they are going to close in one hour. It was crowded with loud music so you couldn't even hear the person next to you. Also they advertised and promoted wonderful gifts however I had to ask about it and they brought a book to sign ? Gave this place a second chance.... Shouldn't have wasted my time and money. First time with 2 friends, all our entrees came out 5 minutes after each other... which , if you're doing this so everyone eats hot food, it's more understandable, but we all had lukewarm/ cold food. It was fairly new, so went with my husband to give it a second chance. Ordered tea, and asked if they had English breakfast, server replied yes. But what came out was a lipton teabag steeping in my mug. Not that big a deal, but not what I ordered. We sat opposite the kitchen and watched our plates sit while other orders went to their tables. That explains the lukewarm/ cold food from last visit. I ordered the BLT with very crispy bacon ... what I got was Burned bacon on toast that was also burned, but also with crusts so hard you'd break a tooth trying to bite into it. Never had a bad BLT before today. Bread must have been old, because it kept breaking apart, maybe because of the hard burned bacon, on top of the fact it was hard and stale on top. What a mess. At least the fries were warmer than last time... not hot, but very warm. When the the server saw my plate, which was a mess, all she said was..."Do you want me to take that away?" Yes Please!! Don't know who runs the kitchen, but at one point there were 4 people standing around our plates, when someone could have picked up the plates and walked 10 steps to our table to serve them. When I pointed this out, server said they were under a heat lamp, and she was waiting for us to finish our fritter, which we had finished long before....all she had to do was check on our table, and she would have seen this. Hubby got a chicken salad croissant... very small croissant, so not much chicken salad. Milkweed will not get a 3rd chance ...sorry we gave it a second chance. So if you are old or lacking a cell phone or just not able to access a digital menu, you have to point to what someone else is eating and say, "I will have whatever that is." In this age where old people and disabled people would like to be treated with kindness, having a few printed menus on hand doesn't seem like a heavy lift. read more
