I stayed in a cabin at Mill Creek Resort and participated in their Summer Solstice Retreat and outdoor yoga. What a special place! I highly recommend it. Everyone who works there is warm and friendly and helpful. The property, including Mill Creek, is beautiful. It's a great place to connect with Nature with the comforts of a rustic resort with cabins with comfortable beds and full kitchens, glamping or camping. Amazing camping! We reserved a campsite for four days and it was absolutely majestic. The kids had a blast and the adults were able to fully relax. There is no phone service which took us some time to accept but it was the biggest blessing to actually disconnect. The creek was beautiful, full of butterflies and lady bugs. Campground is in a nice location, close to Lassen National Park. Mill Creek was great for a cool off after hiking. Problem with the bathrooms at the campground. Two toilets available, with showers located in same bathroom. Only one shower was working so all campers share one shower which made for long wait in the morning for toilet or shower. Two other bathrooms are only available to glamping tents, even though I never saw anyone use them. Store is not open, but did appreciate the honor system ice available. read more

While the outdoors and proximity to outdoor recreation were stellar, my experience for 4 nights was a decent into torture. On the first morning when using only the heater and water boiler (both advertised and provided by them) in 2 different outlets, the power cut out and was never fixed for 3 days. My daily plans were interrupted with trying to deal with their repeated attempts to fix it - eventually an outdoor cable was run from another site through the floor to give me one outlet (this was actually my idea). Temps were in 30's at night, and I was told this has never happened before (see other reviews showing it has) and I was told I must be using more electric than anyone before and I needed to use less. I had one outlet from another camp, and they gave me a cooler since there was no fridge and told me they were offering similar "alternatives" meanwhile there were no less than 7 open cabins they could have moved me to. Finally on the last night the power to the whole place went out (which they can't control) but by that point I was exhausted in dealing with the painful experience. The host was bizarrely aloof about their responsibility to meet the advertised description and instead kept poetically waxing on about their high level efforts to accommodate under the circumstances - which are their facilities having faulty wiring! My partner and I had a wonderful time at MCR and can't wait to come back! We stayed in one of the cabins; it was clean, well stocked, and perfect for two. The property is gorgeous and conveniently close to the main visitor center at Lassen Volcano National Park. The staff were friendly and professional. It was quiet and family friendly; there was even a family movie night in the meadow. Everyone has different expectations around cabins, so keep in mind that there is no Internet, not much cell service, no TV, and no microwave in the cabins. You'll want to download maps before you leave home. There aren't a lot of nearby general stores and what they have is limited, so be sure to bring all the food and supplies you'll need. There are plenty of pans and utensils in the cabin, though, as well as a grill and grilling utensils. From what I recall, pets are permitted but you can be charged for any pet hair left on the bed/furniture (bearing in mind that service animals are not considered pets under federal or California law). read more

This has been one of the best camping trips I've taken in a while. The area is breath taking, with me stating on the first night that, "I feel nature drunk" to my friends. I never once heard any of the other campers and slept like a log in my tent. Even after the fires last year, the camp ground doesn't feel like it was affected. We walked around, finding a fiery garden with toad stool seats, on the path to the field with a star porch to lay on at night. Which also during the day, gave shade to a deer and her two fawns. I'm excited to go back next year and take more time exploring the area. read more

They've got that too. It's like choose your own adventure, but for grown-ups who also need coffee in the morning. The property is gorgeous. Towering trees, a peaceful creek running through it, and even a fairy garden for the kids. Or for adults who secretly believe in woodland magic. No judgment. We could not get into Lassen national park so we stayed for our first time at Millcreek resort. It won't be our last. We were in a trailer. We enjoyed the grounds sitting at night in front of a fire listening to a creek as we watch the deer graze on their grounds. The cabins are very clean and very comfortable. I rent cabins at RV campgrounds very often to get away from the city and relax in a quiet peaceful atmosphere. However Mill Creek has heavy logging operations along the road in front of the resort at different times and typically throughout the night so it's very difficult to sleep.The logging trucks travel along the road at high speed and create a lot of noise and rattle quite loudly so it is difficult to sleep. read more

This campground is one that I highly recommend. Clean bathrooms with flush toilets and showers. The campground itself is well-maintained and, if you have any needs, you can call the campground office or knock on the door to the general store (which is currently closed due to the staffing shortage that is affecting businesses everywhere. One of the best campgrounds i've stayed at! It's close to the park and easy to get there and back. Check in for the campground is easy (you just show up), they have ice and wood available out front! It is sooo nice and so pretty! There were cute small touches like a welcome board with your name out front and decorative signs around the campground. There's a ton of water stouts and the water tastes great. It was also very nice to have a shower available and running water to wash my face. People at the camp ground were really nice and respectful, and it was really quiet each night (granted i was there during the week and chose the camp spots towards the lower loop so i knew it'd be quieter). And all of the trees keep the campground quite cool! Would highly recommend to anyone going to visit the area/park. Notes: there is service but very minimal (this didn't matter much to me), but you can go about a mile up the road for better service. There is no gas in the direct area of the camp or the park. Our first time staying at MCR, but definitely not our last. We're already planning our return. I hesitate to gush about the place, for fear I won't get a reservation next time. It's a hidden gem. We were the only people staying this weekend, I think, since we didn't see anyone else. Our cabin was fully stocked with everything you will need to stay. We brought our own food in and cooked in. A big plus for us is that it is pet friendly. A short walk out your front door, and a snowy trail to walk the dogs and let them play in the snow. A full box of wood and we settled in for a long weekend. We were a bit skeptical about no wi-fi or tv when we made the reservation, but we were both extremely happy without either. No phone calls, texts or emails! We were able to unplug and unwind. What a treat. We all had a fantastic time. Wonderful to wake up to 8" inches of fresh powder. Can't wait to visit again. We stayed in the quaint, rustic cabins many times from the late 1990s to about 4-5 years ago. WAY back in the day, a small cabin rented for $37/night in the winter. Even 6-7 years ago, a cabin rented for less than $100/night for two people. The resort had been owned by the same family for, effectively, 3 generations. It was not perfect, but it was an amazing place with just the right balance of endearing flaws, quirkiness and rustic charm. Fast forward to 2017: Some folks from out of the area buy the place and double the prices. Now Mill Creek Resort is a place that's really only available to the relatively well-off. Are you a middle-class family looking for a reasonably priced vacation? Better look elsewhere. read more

Amazing, beautiful, quiet, and did I mention amazing resort! This resort is a hidden gem that more people need to know about. From the moment we arrived we were in such awe of the beautiful scenery. We rented cabin 10, it was so clean and perfect for a family of 5. You do not need to check in, the key is already waiting for you when you arrive, the windows are all open and the fresh air in the cabin was so refreshing. They have a grill, fire pit, nice little patio and for the most part everything you will need inside the cabin. The resort has a small playground for the kids, which they loved. There is little to no service, so get ready to disconnect and enjoy what life has to offer. The resort has a few trails and one of them leads down to the river. The groundskeepers were pleasant and willing to help if needed. Overall we will be going back to enjoy what this beautiful place has to offer. read more

Booked this place last minute while visiting Lassen National Park. We stopped in the restaurant for a cold brewzkie & Zach Fiore was the most friendliest dude helping us. We totally recommend this place to anyone stopping by this area. The cabin is fully equipped with everything you need to cook & the restaurant/store has all your basic necessities. We were in cabin #4 w/ 2 beds in separate rooms. The owners Joe & Jilian definitely put allot of thought decorating it. Quality bedding & bathroom towels. They offered helpful info on places to hike and get extra food and supplies since we stayed during the shop's off season. The trees were beautiful, and we had deer casually stroll by our site. It was so nice to see them be close, by also with a respectful distance. The river was rushing due to all of the melting snow, and it was absolutely beautiful. We booked an RV to stay in overnight, and it was perfect. The hosts were *very* responsive, and communicated everything we needed to know. The RV was spacious, clean, and felt private even though the rv parking area is quite cozy -- the other folks staying there were all very friendly but super quiet and well-mannered (which is not the experience we've had at all campgrounds, even ones like this which I would characterize as "high-end"). Chatting with RV neighbors it seems many of the clientele are longtime regulars, which helps to explain the settled and very welcoming atmosphere. We checked in on the late side and were rushing off to get food before the local restaurant closed and a nice young man (whom I assume is a caretaker or staff at the resort) greeted us outside the store and clarified directions to the closest restaurant. He met my eye in a very friendly way which let me know he was someone there to help -- the contact was brief but very much appreciated. read more

DO YOU EVEN NATURE BRO!? We had a blast a Mill Creek this last week. If you are looking to unplug, no like truly unplug, then this is the place for you. This place is a new family tradition. We made so many memories. The property is kid friendly which made it nice to be able to relax outside and let the kiddos roam. The restaurant has a variety of food and most importantly BEER ON TAP. Lassen National Park is a hop skip and a jump away so that made for easy exploration throughout the area. We were able to take small hikes (we have small kiddos) and see a lot of new things. We jumped in rivers and lakes. We saw thermal pools. We learned about volcanoes. The views on the hikes were insane. So let's review: Nature - check! Unplug - check! Beer on tap - check! We had a great time this weekend at MCR! Communication before arrival was consistent; Joseph even welcomed us when we arrived late at night. We stayed two nights and had such a wonderful time. The other campers were respectful of each other and of the quiet times at night. We woke up and jumped in the creek each morning. The location was close enough for us to go to LNP every day. The restaurant was such a nice surprise: the salad was fresh with a variety of greens, the garden grain burger was made in house and included a delicious tzatziki sauce on a brioche bun, and the house made ice cream was like silk. We were really impressed with the service, accommodations and overall valley/mountain experience! read more

Stayed one night in late October with a friend in cabin 9. Located not too far south from Lassen NP's southwest entrance, it met our needs at a reasonable price. Our cabin was small, but for two people it was enough room. We had a full size bed and a pull out futon in a connected room off the kitchen (no door separating the two). Bathroom is small and tight; someone with a large frame might feel like they're squeezing in, but we were fine. Kitchen is pretty well equipped for basic cooking: pots and pans, colanders, cooking utensils, eating utensils, plastic measuring cups, plates, bowls, mugs, drinking glasses, a dish rack, but no cutting board. Stove is gas and there's a good size refrigerator/freezer. If we had brought a lighter, it would've been great to light a small camp fire outside the cabin. There's also a charcoal BBQ and seating outside each cabin. Staff are friendly and accommodating. We grabbed some beer on tap before heading to the park and chatting in the office/diner/grocery store all in one which has a number of tables and a wood stove to keep you warm. Might've tried some food if we weren't on our way out to hike. Recommend staying here if you're looking for an affordable cabin in the area. read more

This place is almost perfect. We loved our stay here (Cabin 7 is perfect for 2 people), but wished there was something of a community room for people staying there. The store/restaurant is only open from 4-8 on the weekends and when I went to ask a question or borrow a game it felt like I was intruding. Coffee availability in the morning would be great as well, I ran out the last morning and there was no other option for much needed caffeine. read more

Only open three days a week and for dinner service only (4-8pm). The menu has also changed drastically. Bummer. The restaurant used to be the staple of Mill Creek where all the cabin owners went for many meals all summer long. We used to enjoy arriving to town mid day and grabbing some lunch or a milk shake on the way to the cabin, or eating a burger on the back deck. The store was great to grab some staples that you forgot or just a 6 pack of beer for a treat. Now most cabin owners drive to Chester for breakfast and lunch. I was camping this week with a friend who wanted to have dinner at the MCR. We were pretty hungry from hiking. The menu was so enticing we had trouble deciding what to get. She got the Reuben & I got an enchilada. We also got the hummus appetizer. The service was quick, friendly & helpful (we asked questions about items on the menu.) All three dishes were really good & we were full when we left. I also got a dish of mint chocolate chip ice cream which I enjoyed as we toured the resort. They have cabins (cute), a campground (spacious sites, showers & laundromat) and an RV Park. All neat & clean. The ambiance was down to earth & friendly. Very comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our winter stay here in cute, snug cabin #2. Beautiful surroundings to tromp or snowshoe or Xcountry ski in with a couple of trails and the road (172 is not plowed in winter beyond about a 1/4 mile west of the resort). It is only 7 miles from the Morgan Summit snow play area and trails and the road up to the National Park entrance. Quaint cabin #2 is small but way nicer and homier a place to retreat to than a motel room after our adventures. Perfect for a couple with a bedroom, kitchen and sitting area and shower bathroom. They have larger cabins that would be good for a family or two couples. The restaurant is closed in the winter, but the cabin kitchen was fully equipped for us to make our own meals. The cabins are rustic summer cabins with plenty of drafty cracks for drafts around, but the furnace is more than adequate to keep the place toasty and the hot water for the shower comes quickly and is plentiful. Mill Creek Resort is a rustic getaway in the little hamlet of Mill Creek just outside Lassen National Park. Don't expect five-star amenities or anything close. The cabins are rustic, with tiny bathrooms, no air conditioning, dusty floors and old furnishings. DO expect plenty of places to hike, swim, fish, play horseshoes, or take an afternoon nap on a hammock, as well as a friendly and approachable staff that will remember your name and give you personalized service. The prices are reasonable and, all considering, the accommodations are far superior to other local options like Childs Meadow Resort. Tip: If you're coming in the summertime, reserve a room far in advance as they sell out quickly. read more

I arrived to Mill Creek Resort after a long drive from Lake Tahoe and was greeted by a female staff member with a very sexist shirt promoting misandry. I had enough self pride to speak up about the vulgar sexist shirt and she only scoffed at me. I told her I would not be giving them my business and left, but it was very inconvenient to find another campground, but it was better than supporting gender supremacy. read more

Really Good Burgers! We've never stayed here because we have a cabin in the area.... but we go here at least once a summer for burgers and to chill on their patio which overlooks a beautiful green meadow. There are other things on the menu like salads, sandwiches, hot dogs and wraps. Also, their onion rings are big and crunchy too. Just the way I like them. I've heard their milk shakes are really good too but I haven't had one. This is a great place in the woods to relax, have a meal and enjoy the scenery. :) read more
