My brother and I were staying near Gordons and shopped at Gordon's general store a couple of times during the trip. We found everything we needed: fishing tackle (and great advice), fishing license, food for cooking and some supplies. Nicole was extremely hospitable and helpful. We stayed in cabin 7. The cabin itself is very outdated. There are a lot of cracks and openings throughout all the cabin windows and doors (they don't seal properly), which let a lot of bugs inside. The whole time we were there we were constantly having to get rid of giant black ants and other bugs. Also, none of the doors inside the cabin closed, not even the bathroom door. You could see inside the bathroom from the outside. The main door to get inside is easily opened without a key, which is not good at all. Also, the WiFi did not work during our time there. Not even in the areas we were told it would. Besides that, the area itself is nice. We enjoyed playing cornhole and badminton. read more

We stayed here for 6 nights, family 4. We picked cabin #8, which was recently remodeled. A few things we found surprising when they remodeled the cabin were the bedroom and bathroom doors! They are man-made out of what we thought looked like recycled wood that you can see through the slats, plus the sliders don't have any locking system. So yeah, we had to put up a blanket and make sure the door was secure, or it would slide open on its own about a foot! Plus, the shower had no pressure whatsoever! Next was the oven did not work, or the burners needed to be lit with a lighter. Our Son-in-law figured out that the oven wasn't plugged in! So we fixed that. Another strange thing is that they didn't cover up the fireplace, which is of no use. Lots of holes around it, and we found several flying wasps daily, we think they came in that way. Last were the outside main doors, they are man-made as well and have a quarter of an inch gap around them, you can feel the draft coming in. The heater by the fireplace worked great, but the actual heater we couldn't get lit, but luckily we didn't need it. They also put up man-made screen doors that the back one has about a 6" gap, which makes it completely useless if you want to keep the bugs out, as the mosquitoes there were horrible! Bring your bug spray and extra paper products when staying more than 2 days!! On a more positive note, we did have a great time staying there and will be back. Probably try a different cabin. The area offers a lot of stuff like lawn games, fishing in the pond, outdoor fire pit. Wood at the store, 8 good-sized pieces for 10 dollars. Close to the river for fishing. They have a food truck on the weekends didn't try it, but menu sounded good. read more

We went to Gordon's Rim Rock Ranch mother's day weekend; it was astounding. Completely beautiful and peaceful, we relaxed by the pond and had a campfire with the kids. Cabin was beautiful, and clean. The owners were extremely accommodating, and kind. We bought lunch at the food truck (creekside cravins) and hands down it was the best burger I've ever eaten, with amazing service. We stayed at Gordon's for three nights while visiting Lassen Volcanic National Park. The cabin was exactly what we needed after exploring the National park. We stayed in Cabin 4. It was outfitted with a Queen size bed, dining table, charcoal grill, oven and stove, refrigerator and some basic cooking utensils. There is also a small bathroom with a shower. The bed was comfortable and the entire cabin was clean. The shower was small, but the hot water was fantastic. This location is a short drive to several great locations including Lassen Volcanic National Park (15 minutes), Burney Falls State Park (30 minutes), and Subway Cave (5 minutes). There is a small store on the premises. We did not find it as well stocked as we had hoped. But there is Old Station Fill Up right up the road that has more variety. Or if you're looking to grocery shop, you can drive into Burney (30 minutes). We enjoyed that there wasn't any service on the property. It was nice to unplug. Old Station Fill Up does have good service if you need to use it. My husband enjoyed fishing in the pond on the property and even caught a rainbow trout. read more

My family and friends love camping here every August! They keep the campgrounds pristine and make upgrades every year. I've stayed in two cabins and tent camped twice. Their prices are excellent and there is so much to do in the area. Just a short drive to Mt Lassen, Burney Falls and caves, lakes, and great fishing right across the street. It is dry tent camping on a beautifully green lawn, but no showers on site. There are showers a 3 minute drive away. The owners are very friendly and live onsite which is nice. Super cute country store on site also. Excited to go back next year! read more

What a great place in the country to escape and slow down - and go fishing. Cabin 14 was just completely remodeled and is quiet , clean, and comfortable. The grounds are well kept, there are BBQs and fire pits, and there is also an RV parking area. Other cabins are in the process of being upgraded but rustic-ly cute. The owners are nice as can be. The little store is surprisingly well stocked. Be prepared to disconnect and relax. We can't wait to come back! read more

what a great place to stay ! we rented five cabins for our family and weren't dissatisfied with any of them ! they are a little rustic but that made it that much better ! after all your in the woods. the staff were very pleasant and any questions we had they had the answers for us. i had brought games to play and found out they have a well stocked selection already there ! from the board games in the cabins to the many outdoor games volleyball , badminton , corn hole , basketball ect...... what was great for me was how close it is to hat creek there's trails close by that you can walk to the creek and fish for trout also some great places a short drive away. they also have a little pond that the kids can fish that is stocked with trout. the store is well stocked for being so small you can tell they put a lot of thought into what people might need. all in all I give them a five star rating ! we came away with a five star vacation for our family that will be remembered and talked about for years ! read more

We spent a great two nights here! We arrived late on Friday, and they were very accommodating, leaving us an accessible key. They also helped us keep our electric car charged by providing an extension cord. We stayed in room 12, which was cozy with a small fridge, microwave, table, queen bed, closet, and bathroom. Everything was clean and comfortable. The country store has everything you'd need if you forget anything or need a bite! We bought 6 pieces of campfire wood for $5 to use at one of their many fire pits to make dinner. The store is open around 8 am - 8 pm. They also had a free outdoor movie playing Maleficient! The grounds are beautiful, and the fishing pond was stocked with fish for my granddaughters to catch, which was amazing. The cabin, on the other hand, which I understand, is going to be remodeled soon, has bad steps for people to get up and down especially people with disabilities. Unfortunately, our oven did not work and we were not told this when we talked or checked into our cabin. wish we would've known this prior to our arrival. Overall, we had a great time. This place is great, especially for trips to Lassen, Burney Falls, or Hat Creek. Our two families (including babies) stayed in Cabin 6. The layout was a bit awkward, but there were more than enough beds and everyone had a wonderful time. And Nykole, one of the new owners, is incredibly nice and accommodating if you need anything. As with any place, it's important to know what to expect here. The cabins are essentially old fishing cabins that have been spruced up. Not all of the rooms have doors or electrical outlets. They are not well-insulated, and it can get cold at night in the fall if you don't use a heater. All of this is fine so long as you're prepared. These cabins offer a great rustic retreat in a beautiful part of the state. read more

Rim Rock is a cute place & the owners are very friendly. Our experience with cabin #7 wasn't great. We had lots of ants inside and out the first night, luckily, we had some spray with us to use and we were out all day during the time we stayed there. We should've asked for more toilet paper as we ran out the last night but we only started with one and a half rolls for four people for four nights stay. We do appreciate the improvements being made but unfortunately until cabin #7 is updated we didn't feel like the price was reflective of the accommodations. We will try back in the future when all the cabins are updated. read more

This quaint set up caught us by surprise at first but stole our hearts after all. There is NO I Repeat no Internet/Wi-Fi once you are 5 feet from the check in building. You cant use your phones on property at all. There is no TV in the accommodations. We stayed in cabin 3. There is a shower full bathroom, a bedroom with a full-size bed, a small heater, and a little kitchen that is fully furnished with toaster, range, oven, refrigerator, dishes and cookware plus the table and chairs. The only catch to the shower was the hot water was on the right side and not left as you would usually fine and you had to run it for five minutes in order to get it hot. My husband and I stayed here for the weekend to visit Lassen Volcanic National Park. Camp sites were all booked, and this was the one of the closest lodging facility available to the park we could find - 17 miles north from the Manzanita Lake Entrance to be exact. We were hoping to rent one of their cabins but their "motel unit" was the only available site left, so we decided to stay there anyway. The room was small but very functional and sufficient. A queen bed, small closet, table with chairs and bathroom with shower. Microwave, mini fridge and simple coffee maker came in the room also. There was a charcoal grill for each unit if you want to grill. Considering we were in the middle of the mountain and a fishing country, this type of room rental would be more than enough for a weekend fishing trip. For the price we paid, it was a 4 star value for sure. One of the thing I was very happy about was that room amenities might be a bit older, but they were all functional and thoroughly cleaned. Shower, toilet, fridge, bed sheets and comforter... all clean and that added a huge comfort to our stay. And also the Rim Rock Ranch store (a small general store) is right next to the cabin/motel room property so it was convenient to get little things you needed. Store is open 8am-8pm. Owners are very friendly and they are there if you need anything. We liked the fact that we saw them often taking care of stuff around the property. If you are fly fisherman, they provide guiding service also. I'd like to come back to stay here at one of the cabins next time. read more

I stayed in three different cabins on this property in September 2020. My Dad and sister live in Old Station, so I have driven past Rim Rock many times, but this is the first time I have stayed there. Space being tight at my sister's house, my brother and I stayed at Rim Rock two nights in cabin seven and one night in log cabin A. My daughter and her boyfriend stayed in one of the single rooms. The cabin was adorable, cozy, and rustic. My brother did not love it because he is tall and smacked his head a couple times on a doorway, and he prefers newer accommodations. My dog was able to stay with us for $25. The grounds are beautiful and green with pine trees around the store. There is a little stream that runs through the property and it runs right in front of cabin seven. It's very beautiful and I Dilick. We also stayed one night in log cabin at. my brother loves the log cabin because like I said, he prefers modern accommodations. I thought it was really nice, but It didn't have the charm of number seven. So which cabin is right for you depends on your preference. We were able to get a WiFi signal in the log cabin. My daughter and her boyfriend stayed in one of the two single rooms. When they first got there, they smelled propane in the room and we decided to go look for the owners to see if they could help us with that. The owners, Jason and Nycole, have had the resort for I guess a little over a year and they are working all the time to make repairs, update, etc. because the last owner did not leave it in very good condition. Anyway, we quickly found Nykole and Jason and told them about the smell. They were eager to help, so nice and accommodating, and explained the smell was from Lighting the pilot light earlier that day. The room aired out soon enough, and daughter and boyfriend had no more trouble with the smell. Could be better- The beds were not super comfortable. The older cabin needed some small repairs and did not lock all the way. I gave the resort five stars because of the whole package; accommodations, setting, and especially the way they take care of their guests. The store is well stocked and there are weekend activities like cookouts and movie nights on an inflatable movie screen! Kids seem to love it. This is not a KOA or a Glamping site; it is a wonderful, privately owned and run, old-style mountain camp. I have already booked the last cabin available for Thanksgiving, and I am looking forward to many more stays there! read more

We arrived early evening and was told there was no power due to PG&E cut off to reduce fire hazards. We were told power would return at 4 am. The owner did say that she called us to inform us earlier, however, we had no cell coverage and the wi-fi there was off because there was no power. At this hour we had no other option but to stay the night and with power being restored in the morning thought why not. Too bad the mouse in the cabin kept us up most of the night, eating the insulation off the bottom of the kitchen sink. We tried to remove it, however, could not. We had to sleep in our car in order to get some rest. The mouse was busy all night, poop was in all the kitchen drawers with utensils, and dinnerware. Needless to say, we lost our appetite for breakfast. In addition, the kitchen table was filthy, and the door to our cabin would not close unless we pulled up to close it. At 7:30 am there was still no power, and at 8 the store was not open for us to purchase ice so we decided to pack and depart, rather than lose 2 ice chests worth of food. We wrote a note informing them of our decision and requested a refund for one night, as we had paid for 2 nights. The owner denied our request telling us we were told there was no power. Too bad, we were planning a family reunion next year, it would have been a perfect spot for 6 families. If you are considering staying here, bring a mouse trap, mosquito repellent and cleaning supplies. The gas station down the street sells ice at a better price anyway and they are super friendly! read more

This was a 5 day get-away from the Bay Area. I had been here in the 1970's. It turned out to be better than I remember. The plan was to spend 5 days and meet up with my friends, that were traveling cross country to Montana. I had a dog and a small cabin rented. My friends had 3 large dogs and a log cabin rented. Water was running through the property. The dogs loved it. My small cabin was very well furnished, even though I arrived very well prepared. I brought toilet paper, but not needed. The cabin kitchen had wine glasses, enough said. We caught our limit each day. Each unit came with a BBQ grill. Used the heater once. Soap and towels provided, even though I brought my own. Wi-Fi was spotty, but connected at Gordon's store. Major Upgrades since the '70's. Almost stayed 1 more night, but they were booked. Sylvia and owners were very accommodating. We ended up booking here "last minute" as did am so glad we did! Our family has been coming up to the area for years and typically use out trailer. This year, circumstances warranted us to not be able to bring our trailer, hence the need to find a place to stay... The current owners purchased the property in 2019 and have done a TON of work and updating and it shows! Most of the cabins/accommodations have been renovated inside and out and the grounds themselves are beautifully maintained! I saw previous reviews and photos taken PRIOR to the new owners taking over and I really want to stress that it is NOTHING LIKE THAT NOW! My family and friends have been staying here for 15 years and it's such a nice, peaceful, and relaxing place. The original owners and the current owners are so friendly and accommodating it feels like a home away from home. For our anniversary, my husband and I decided to have a day trip and drive to the Lassen area, which is 4 hours from our home. We had a delightful drive and visited Burney Falls, then headed towards Lassen in the early evening to head home. Just through the town of Old Station our car broke down and we lost our transmission. We were able to pull to the side of the road but were uncomfortably close to traffic. No cell service meant that we had to take a hike back to Gordon's Rim Rock Ranch. We got there and they were closed and we still had no cell service. Seeing a family by a pond, we went to see if there was anyone who could help us. The owners, Jason and Nykole, were enjoying their evening but immediately offered to assist us. They loaned us their personal phone and hooked us up with their internet access, spoke with the local tow company, and gave us some food. When we found out that AAA was not going to help us that evening, Jason pushed our car and brought it to safety in front of their home. Nykole stopped what she was doing to clean a cabin so that we could spend the night. We stayed in cabin 4. The cabin was old and charming, and impeccably clean. There was a fan to cool us down on a hot evening, and these thoughtful owners even gave us an anniversary gift and a card. The grounds were very pretty, with a pond, a well-appointed fenced play area for the kids, and an area with outdoor games like cornhole and Score Four. There was even an outdoor screen for movies. Lots of places to sit or walk around made for such an enjoyable evening. The store was well stocked with almost anything you would need. I was even able to get a charging cord for my phone. There was plenty of fruit and frozen items for the people who were hiking the PCT and needed to restock. We would absolutely go back to stay for a vacation or a family reunion. Jason and Nykole were patient, thoughtful, helpful, wonderful hosts, and they made us feel like family. read more

This place is AWESOME!!! I chose this place as my wedding venue and loved every second of it!!! The cabins are great. I felt like I was home, I couldn't ever call is a cabin because it was that comfortable. The furniture and bedding were all comfortable & clean. I slept well too, even the night before the I Do's! The Gordons are very friendly and went above and beyond for us! I can see and feel the pride they take in their property and the experience they provide for their guests. There is even a sweet little fenced in play area for kids with nice seating for you to enjoy your hot cup of coffee while your little runs off some of that 7 am energy we wish we woke up with too! Not only is there a play area for kids, theres one for bigger kids/adults with cornhole, horse shoe, volleyball and more. The country story has a good deal of things you may have forgotten at home or run out of. Side note, I stopped in once during a day of fishing asked for something out of the ordinary, they didn't carry it. Fast forward 3 weeks, was out fishing again and stopped in the store and what did they have....what I had previously stopped in looking for! They listen to their guests! With good fishing near by, a great restaurant (JJ's less than a quarter mile away), and a friendly camp host, there is something for everyone! If you want to feel like you're home away home, Gordon's Rim Rock Ranch is the place to go! I cant wait to visit again for a weekend. read more

We stayed here during this Labor Day weekend, as a group of 4 people. The overall experience is amazing! First, the price was definitely very affordable. I am not sure why it shows $$$ here. But a cabin with 2 bedrooms only costed us less than $200 per night, during a holiday weekend. Second, the cabin had every necessary thing, such as kitchen, heat/AC and shower. In addition, the beds were comfy. Note that Internet was only available at the front shop. It was okay, as the purpose of time off is to get away from modern technology. As above, I highly recommend this place as a vacation spot. Save money, relax better! read more

Rim Rock Ranch is an amazing little get away whether by yourself or with your family. I have stayed there many times, I got a tour of the cabins and chose #7. The new owner Kevin is great. He put a swing set and a bouncy house up for the guests with children, my kids loved it. On Friday nights he puts a movie on a huge projection screen out in the grass for any guests and provided fresh movie theater popcorn. His staff was also very helpful and friendly and answered all my questions. For as old as the cabins are, they are in excellent condition and very clean with everything needed included. There is a little store that's part of the ranch and it had a wide variety of things. It's location is very close to the Subway caves and the creek is just across the road for fishing which was a great little adventure for our family. I loved this place and plan on coming back for sure. read more

Every year while staying at Lassen, I always stop into their little store for camping goods. Though small in size, it is fully stocked with everything you need. At one point, I needed a part for my nostalgic lantern- this place carried it! Considering it's location, the prices are very low and reasonable. The owners are super kind too. read more

I was hiking the PCT and wanted to stay in a hotel after a lengthy stretch on the trail, but had a really bad experience with this place. To start with, I booked the hotel from my cell phone for two nights beginning the night that I arrived in Old Station; because the place was closed and locked (they close pretty early, at 5 PM), I called and left a voicemail message at around 7-7:30 PM indicating that I had just booked a room and requested a call back so that we could make arrangements for me to use the room. They later said that they left a key in an envelope at the entrance, instead of calling me back, but there was no way that I could have known that there was a key waiting for me, or where the key was, precisely because they did not call me back. I did manage to get a room the following day when I went there while the front office was open; they made it very clear that they were not going to provide any refund, and charged me for the previous night even though I was unable to stay in the hotel room. Not much in the way of integrity on the part of management, in my opinion. The place is a bit of a ramshackle group of cabins. The door on my cabin would not close unless I used the deadbolt, because they hadn't bothered to replace a door that was not properly functioning; I have replaced doors myself and it is not a big deal, in general, usually taking a few hours at most, and it was clear that the door had been in this condition for quite some time, but the owners didn't bother to fix it. The place advertises free Wi-Fi, but Wi-Fi was not available in my room, There was no cell phone coverage, so the only way I could make a phone call was via Wi-Fi. When I spoke to management about the lack of wi-Fi in my room, the response was that I could go out in the common area and use Wi-Fi, but the common area was outdoors, Wi-Fi was not available throughout the common area, and there was no privacy. I have set up many Wi-Fi networks and this is both cheap and easy to address, but the owners have chosen not to address the problem. My overall impression of the place is that the owners are not interested in maintaining the place, they are primarily interested in milking it for as much as they can get, including charging people inappropriately. read more
