Back in the 1970's and 1980's we would go to the Timber House for fancy prime rib dinners. I hadn't been there in many years. It has changed substantially with the addition of a brewery, outdoor dining area and games, and a renovated dining room. The day we were there we dined indoors because it was about 92° and we had a cranky 1-year old with us. The dining room is beautiful and still has the logs on the ceiling and one of the huge log pillars in the middle of the room. We ordered the Brussels sprouts and pretzel bites for appetizers and they were a hit with everyone including the baby. Everyone's entrees were delicious as were the cocktails and the beer from the brewery. My four year old grandson ordered buttered pasta from the kids menu and even it was delicious and came with a side of shaved Parmesan. The service was fantastic and the server was very kind and friendly. We will definitely go back the next time we are at Lake Almanor. read more

We've been here three or four times. It's a solid spot for cocktails or a beer, and one of the nicer-looking places around when it comes to decor. The food, though, doesn't deliver. They're clearly trying, but the flavor just isn't there. Last time the house salad was super bland--beans and garbanzo straight from the can dumped on what felt like three pounds of greens, shredded carrots straight from the bag, cheap ingredients all around, and a weird bitter balsamic dressing. We've ordered their fish tacos before; they were okay, but the prices FAR exceed the quality and taste of their food. Service has been the same every visit: basic, nothing highly professional nor inviting, just functional and sometimes forgetful. Tasted like frozen, reheated shrimp that was lukewarm at best. Flavorless Chicken BLT - solid. Bacon saved the sandwich, but mostly under-seasoned Wedge salad - good but drowned in dressing. Ask for the dressing on the side Ahi salad - okay, but the fish was also under-seasoned. Clam chowder - solid. Chunks of potato, celery, and clams Management Suggestion: encourage the kitchen staff to execute a smaller set of food items really well, consistently. Sample what they put out. I would go back multiple times, many times coming, the menu offers a wide array of choices and I want to taste each item. We came to the Timber House Lodge on a whim and we were so thankful that they were able to accommodate our party of 15 on such short notice. We were staying the weekend in Mill Creek California at a cabin and it was my sister-in-law's birthday on 18 of July. We were going to find something closer to our cabin, but it was pretty booked up that day and so we ventured out to Chester California went here instead. The staff was wonderful and was able to accommodate us and when we arrive, our table was set up. The food was awesome and had a nice variety of steak, salads, pastas, kids meals, and they had an area out of front so you could play lawn games which was great to bring our kids out while we waited for our food to be served. My husband and I split shrimp tacos, and the ribeye both very flavorful and very tasty. We went to the restaurant with my sister-in-law and her family and my brother-in-law and his family. So three families total at one table. The restaurant was very cozy and comfortable. While we were there, I looked up and I saw this man standing across the room and said to my husband that he looked awfully familiar. My husband turns and looks and realizes that it was " Coach" from the TV Show Survivor. He was very nice and offered to take a picture with us. Here is why it's a 3 star review.. and I'm still waiting for a manager to reach out to me to see if we can help the problem. I was in the restroom when the bill came, but after speaking with my family, this is what happened. The tab was split between the three families, which was very kind of the restaurant to do. My husband informed me later that when he was paying for the bill, which was not printed out but was on a electronic device. That this server, whose name is Stephanie went through the Bill quickly and just told him basically where to sign. She did not tell him that when a party goes over eight people that gratuity is automatically added to the bill. They also failed to mention that when I called to make the reservation and the server also did not inform my sister-in-law when she handed her $40 in cash. There were a few opportunities in which this could be mentioned. They charged 19.5% of gratuity on top of our bill. When my brother-in-law's bill was presented to him, he noticed the gratuity, and when he asked about it, apparently the server was not very nice about it and kind of was snotty when she did admit to him that gratuity was already added We have absolutely no problem being charged automatic gratuity for our large table. We do have, however, have a problem with not being informed or someone rushing through so that we don't see that gratuity was already added. It felt very dishonest. From my family and my sister-in-law's family the server basically got a 40 to 50% tip of our bill. I will be following up with the manager in regards to this matter read more

I was at Lake Almanor for the weekend and needed a bite. Even better Timber House Lodge has a happy hour. Their huge patio is the perfect spot for a summer afternoon happy hour. Fresh air and shade. The HH menu had lots of great food and drink choices at a great price point. Fresh ahi, salads, and great fried snacks like cheese curds. I didn't leave room to try any of the burgers and other items on the regular menu. They share a large parking lot with the rest of their TH businesses- the restaurant, lodge, brewery and distillery. read more

Been there twice and told both times that the empty restaurant doesn't have room for our party lol. As in literally not one table taken, but twice told that 'we have people coming in for every single table' both times. Neither time was the staff particularly friendly either. Which is statistically pretty impossible tbh. Def possible it's true but to have it happen twice is pretty funny. So prob won't try a 3rd time and will just go somewhere else first instead since we just waste time trying this place. Also had multiple people say the food was bad when physically leaving the place and not to ever get the shrimp tacos lol. Just go somewhere else from the start honestly. Came back for a late lunch to take advantage of their Happy Hour specials. Their regular menu had a decent-sized menu with a good selection of options while their happy hour menu had some good drink and sharable options. Cocktails were average, nothing to write home about. But what was super surprising was how good their sweet potato fries were - perfectly crisp, well-salted, and their house dipping sauce was fire. Staff weren't the friendliest and it took a lot longer than expected to get the bill, but the atmosphere was super nice. Waited to be acknowledged at the door for several minutes in an almost completely empty restaurant only to be told by the busser that the only place they could seat our party of 9 would be outside in 100° heat with 3 small children. They refused to even split our party into 2 tables to make it easier to accommodate. Will NOT be visiting or recommending this place to anyone. We've been coming to this restaurant for a few years. Service has always been extremely slow so when we came back this time, we expected slow service. But, this was sloth slow. We made a reservation per the norm but we stood at the podium 20 min before we were even acknowledged then another 10 while our table was cleaned, what's the point of a reservation ? It was 30 min before we were even offered drinks. Headed in to the bar to get them ourselves but there was no bartender working. Once our order was finally taken for our meals the food came out quickly but it was beyond cold. Cold is one thing but the quality was horrible. We watched 2 staff members running their rears off while several others were standing on the patio at the gate entrance smoking., also not great while trying to eat smelling their cigarette smoke. Not sure we will be returning. Too bad because the area needs good quality restaurants with quality service. read more

This review is for both hotel and restaurant. Absolutely loved both. Our room was beautiful decorated and totally went with the gypsy theme. Comfortable bed and the gypsy room has plenty of room to roam. No bath tub but nice walk in shower. Fridge in room. The restaurant we were equally pleased with just outside our room so walked over for the happy hour that had a lot of snack and drink options. I'm pretty sure we got 1 of everything on the happy hours bites menu and yes we ate it all. My favorite was the cheese curds. We went back to our room and went for a walk in the area then came back to the restaurant for dinner. The restaurant was decorated I would call it winter cabin style. Beautiful fire place and bar. Both of our servers were wonderful and on top of getting drinks and all the stuff we asked for. Highly recommend staying here and dining at the brewery. Unfortunately this was a disappointing experience. I've never written a negative review but feel like I should. The chicken in our buffalo chicken salad was part warm and part cold. The fish and chips weee hot but the serving pretty small. One of our Bloody Marys was fine although a bit lack luster with one olive and a celery stick, my husband's was lukewarm (did not have enough ice and had not been shaken or stirred) and was only served with an olive. The hostess seemed annoyed. Our waitress was nice enough. Our meal cost $109 for three plates of food and three drinks. Yikes! read more

Went to Timber house restaurant for the second time on a night out with friends and couldn't have been happier with the drinks and exquisite food! I think this visit was even better than our first. We started with the fried pickle chips - a must, a Cadillac margarita - one of the best I've had, and the rest of our table had a variety of beers which they loved. I had the pesto chicken pasta special and the fresh and rich flavors in this pasta blew my mind. It was so good I wish it was a regular dish - would definitely order it again. My husband had the halibut special and although he felt it was a little overcooked the flavors were amazing. Our guests had the steak entree and shrimp tacos and both were tasty and devoured. the shrimp tacos were a bit spicy but good. We were too full to have dessert but we can't wait to go back and enjoy more great food from this local hot spot when visiting lake Almanor. read more

Stayed at the Timber Lodge in one of their super cute, nicely decorated rooms. Very comfortable, easy no-hassle check-in (they text you a code to access your room), and fun decor. Only downside was that the walls between rooms are incredibly thin (hence only 4/5 stars for me)--no issue if you have quiet neighbors. But if all else fails, they give you earplugs! The restaurant was a nice surprise. Great beer selection, and food was hearty with big portions. Reservations are pretty much needed. Otherwise, you can eat at the bar and you'll meet some very nice travelers along the way. read more
