Came back for a late lunch to take advantage of their Happy Hour specials. Their regular menu had a decent-sized menu with a good selection of options while their happy hour menu had some good drink and sharable options. Cocktails were average, nothing to write home about. But what was super surprising was how good their sweet potato fries were - perfectly crisp, well-salted, and their house dipping sauce was fire. Staff weren't the friendliest and it took a lot longer than expected to get the bill, but the atmosphere was super nice. Wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but if you're already in the area, I'd definitely stop by for some of those sweet potato fries! read more

Went to Timber house restaurant for the second time on a night out with friends and couldn't have been happier with the drinks and exquisite food! I think this visit was even better than our first. We started with the fried pickle chips - a must, a Cadillac margarita - one of the best I've had, and the rest of our table had a variety of beers which they loved. I had the pesto chicken pasta special and the fresh and rich flavors in this pasta blew my mind. It was so good I wish it was a regular dish - would definitely order it again. My husband had the halibut special and although he felt it was a little overcooked the flavors were amazing. Our guests had the steak entree and shrimp tacos and both were tasty and devoured. the shrimp tacos were a bit spicy but good. We were too full to have dessert but we can't wait to go back and enjoy more great food from this local hot spot when visiting lake Almanor. read more

After a long hike, it was time for refreshments! I ordered the margarita and the rest of my party ordered beers. We were visiting during the time frame when they only have drinks and snacks. Service was excellent and everyone was very attentive. We loved the whole vibe of this place and the food was fantastic. I'm so happy that they reopened this restaurant and motel. This review is for both hotel and restaurant. Absolutely loved both. Our room was beautiful decorated and totally went with the gypsy theme. Comfortable bed and the gypsy room has plenty of room to roam. No bath tub but nice walk in shower. Fridge in room. The restaurant we were equally pleased with just outside our room so walked over for the happy hour that had a lot of snack and drink options. I'm pretty sure we got 1 of everything on the happy hours bites menu and yes we ate it all. My favorite was the cheese curds. We went back to our room and went for a walk in the area then came back to the restaurant for dinner. The restaurant was decorated I would call it winter cabin style. Beautiful fire place and bar. Both of our servers were wonderful and on top of getting drinks and all the stuff we asked for. Highly recommend staying here and dining at the brewery. Stayed at the Timber Lodge in one of their super cute, nicely decorated rooms. Very comfortable, easy no-hassle check-in (they text you a code to access your room), and fun decor. Only downside was that the walls between rooms are incredibly thin (hence only 4/5 stars for me)--no issue if you have quiet neighbors. But if all else fails, they give you earplugs! The restaurant was a nice surprise. Great beer selection, and food was hearty with big portions. Reservations are pretty much needed. Otherwise, you can eat at the bar and you'll meet some very nice travelers along the way. read more

We make it a point to dine at the Timber lodge every trip to Lake Almanor. A very romantic atmosphere and the ambiance gives you such a feeling of being in the mountains with the gorgeous decor. The staff was so attentive and checked in numerous times to make sure everything was perfect with our dinner. Lunch or dinner the food is the best in the area for a great dinner out with my wife. This place was highly recommended by someone we met when we were at our hotel. 25 miles away from Lassen park, but I think it's worth the drive. Every thing we ordered were good. The ahi tuna was perfectly seasoned, my grilled chicken was also good, just a little bit dry to my liking but it's not a big deal. The tiramisu was also good. We got into town pretty late and were so happy this restaurant was right across from where we were staying, not that the town is super big. The restaurant isn't large but just the right size and great ambiance. It seemed it was renovated and looked great. I ordered a 6oz Filet Mignon, and it was cooked perfectly and seasoned very well! My husband had the house wedge, which had a little bit too much blue cheese dressing, and the Grilled Salmon. He really liked both and thought the salmon was grilled very well. The food was filling and tasted very good! We loved the overall feel of the restaurant, the outdoor/log cabin look to it, and the wait staff was very friendly. read more

Finally made it to the "new" Timber House Lodge. My mom, two nieces and myself enjoyed a very nice dinner. We started of with breaded pickles that came with a siracha dip. My mom tried their house light lager and ordered another one. Two of us had Arnold Palmers & the other lemonade. For dinner: Me - Steakhouse burger, minus lettuce and tomato and added sliced jalapeños. The brioche bun held everything together nicely and the burger was a perfect medium, with a side of shoestring fries. All perfectly warm. Niece 1: Steakhouse burger minus tomato. Niece 2: Chicken sandwich with no complaints. Mom: Alaskan cod tacos. It was dressed with mango salsa and cilantro. It took about 1.25 hours from sitting down to getting our meal. The waitress did a great job. 2 beers, lemonade, Arnold Palmers, 2 burgers, chicken sandwich and fish tacos w tax $109. Not bad as all. The owners have done a great job with preserving the inside of the historic restaurant while adding a nice covered and uncovered patio dining. There is corn hole outside and the gift store. The battered shrimp was exquisite! It was made with rice flour, so it's gluten-free. It is suggested that it's not celiac safe because they share the same fryer; however, I am celiac myself and did not have discomfort. The artichoke dip has a very nice consistency. The restaurant put just a right amount of each ingredient. It does not taste process and like some places I've been to... aka BJ's. It taste super fresh and you can tell it was made with love and homemade ingredients, which I love! We also ordered a ahi tuna salad. I was genuinely surprised that this tasted so amazing! I'm right by the ocean so typically I'm very picky about my tuna but this place did a very fantastic job selecting tuna. It had a fresh nice taste which I find very rare in towns that aren't minutes away from the ocean. I was pretty full from the appetizers so to go I had the grilled herb chicken which was was very favorable and had good moisture. We arrived during happy hour which is around 3-5 pm. We went there during a quieter time on a weekday and the restaurant was still lively. I've eaten many places around this area before, and was quite shocked to see a decent amount of people on the weekday. It's a very small town so that's not typical, which shows that this place has really good food and customer service. Based from the locals, I heard that this place is very busy on the weekends with fun activities. It's a super cute vibe and they have sand toss out in the grass. They have option to dine inside or outside the restaurants. If you're dining outside, do you have an option to bring a pet on a leash. If you're not an animal lover, you're more than welcome to sit outside at a different area or inside the restaurant. This is very accommodating and friendly. They had cushions on the seats outside and overall the chairs are comfortable and clean. Unfortunately I did not take a picture but the booths inside looked gorgeous and brand new. I'm based in San Diego and something I always enjoy is finding places that do their own brewery. Not only do they do their own brewery, but they also do their own distillery. I find this quite unique ! I myself can't drink beer, but my father went with me and he really enjoyed it and he's super picky! Overall, this is a cute spot to check out especially if you're vacationing or visiting family in the area. We had an absolutely wonderful time visiting Timber House! Comfortable, cozy, yet upscale vibes welcome you as soon as you open the front door. We were also welcomed by some lovely employee's who were happy to help us even though we didn't have a reservation. We showed up 10minutes before happy hour ended and they did everything in their power to get us some beer and some food prior to it ending, which was so nice. I have been in many places who just ignore you until happy hour ends so they don't have to honor it but not these guys, it really made us feel welcome. I had the Strawberry Blond Ale and my husband had the Mexican Lager and the Porter. We both enjoyed the BEST cheese curds we have ever had and some delicious fried shrimp. We also loved the seared ahi, it tasted so smoky, just perfect. We also had the Cesar Salad with Chicken and it was just what we needed after a long hike! This is quite possibly the worst restaurant I've ever been to. The food was terrible, barely edible. And they added tip by themselves for two people. They con their own customers. Do not recommend. For two people it was $200. The word tip stands for to ensure promptness. Nothing was prompt. The service was lax, people barely even came by to refill our waters. I don't really know whether to give them a three or a four star. I went there for their soft re-opening and was placed at a tall bar table with three of my friend, I did have a booth, but they called and asked if I would switch to a table not knowing any better I said sure. Well, you can't eat those tables, there was no room we had to put our drinks on the floor, and the food was just OK. I knew this was their soft opening and they were just getting going so I've been back three or four more times so obviously it's not bad. The food was good. The service was great. They have an a couple amazing waitresses, very friendly and pleasant, and they had Jason running the kitchen so the first time wasn't great but the last three times were good, but then I went in there last week. They were shorthanded and doing the best they could and I totally understand that, but I had to send my meal back three times it came out the fourth time and it was almost right, but not quite. All I ordered was a Wagyu burger well done no cheese with bacon. First time it was rare, second time came back with cheese, third time all of a sudden the bacon was gone, fourth time I guess was the charm, but by then my husband was done eating. Their waitress was amazing and did best to try to get the kitchen to get it right, but for some reason, they just seem to have a hard time with it. Then I found out Jason was laid off and it just seems like without him the kitchen just fell apart. So two times not good three times amazing, common denominator Jason. The first time I went he hadn't started and the last time I went, they laid him off. I know they're closed for two months and hopefully they will be smart enough to get him back. He ran an excellent kitchen, and the food was always perfect on his watch. They have great waitresses, the place is really cool but the kitchen needs him. Timber House Lodge is a convenient spot to stay in Chester. Being right in the middle of town, it's close by to all you might need, and contactless check-in/out makes your in and out a breeze. I recommend giving all the themed rooms a look through as some themes can be a bit more intense than others. I stayed in the Wild Wild West room, which contained a bit more cheetah print than expected (my fault for not reviewing the rooms prior to booking). Room names are handwritten on signs above doors but underneath the roof overhang, so try to arrive when there's still sunlight to avoid creeping around the other rooms with a flashlight after dark. In my opinion, a big reason to choose the lodge is for the brewery next door. There's lots of great food options and service is warm and inviting. Timber House Brewery definitely ranks above any other small motel/hotel restaurant I've been to! read more
