Not the nicest dog park in Nassau County but sufficient enough to take you beast to get some exercise. There is some grass but also a little too much dirt for my liking. After drinking water from the doggy fountain, my dog always seems to get muddy and is in need a good wipe down and a bath. But the folks that take their dogs here are usually friendly, and it usually makes for a nice way to pass a little time. Just a note : The dog run is closed on the first Tuesday of each month for maintenance by the County.

This is a great dog park!!!! My rottie puppies had so much fun playing and socializing with the other dogs. I love that the entire dog run is turfed. Most dog parks are just dirt/mud with hardly any grass and not kept up as far as maintenance. This dog park is the opposite. It is clean and it is big. Plenty of room for dogs to run around in. There are picnic tables to sit at, deck chairs and Adirondack chairs. They even have a pool for the pups and dogs to enjoy. I brought my own toys for the puppies to play with, but there were already toys at the dog park for everyone to use. I wish more dog parks looked like the one at Wantaugh Park. I am definitely bringing my pups back here again. It's worth it!!!

Looking for a place to bring your pup? Well Wantagh Park is the place for you! The park is HUGE (over 100 acres), offering numerous opportunities for various recreational activities and has a magnificent waterfront view! The dog run has plenty of room for your pooch to play and is sure to offer a pleasant experience for both you and your furry friend. There are two separate caged runs for both large and small dogs, water faucets to keep your pooch hydrated and poop baggies to pick up unmentionables. Benches and canopies are avaliable for the pet parents to take a well deserved break and provide ample shade for the animals to cool off. The best part about this particular run is that it's all SYNTHETIC TURF which helps keeps your pup clean and provides a more sanitary environment for them to play in. There's always plenty of tennis balls to play with and an assortment of water bowls. For the most part the owners are considerate and the pooches are friendly. Definitely check it out!

I have been to this park a few times, would probably go more often if I lived closer. The times I have gone the group of owners and dog were very friendly. Owners were attentive to what their dogs were doing and for the most part the run was free of piles of poop. One of the better dog runs on Long Island, upgrade the ground cover and this is a solid 4 star run. ***UPDATE*** - installed new fencing for both dog runs - concrete under seating and entrance areas - dedicated dog water fountains in each dog run Still needs better ground cover (right now it is just dirt and rocks) This is now a solid 4 star run. We take our 24 lb dog to the smaller section, which is the limit. There are a number of owners who ate their bigger and aggressive dogs to the park. Our dog has been attacked (not play) and yelped on multiple occasions and the owners either didn't look up from their phones or laughed. Rough dog play is ok. Attacking a smaller dog and making her cry out really just means you shouldn't own a dog. Our dog plays well with other dogs, but the park attracts irresponsible owners. If you are an irresponsible dog owner please go to this park. That way I know how to avoid you in the future.

I love that he can be completely off the leash and has plenty of space to run around. Plenty of trees to mark and explore. The fences and gates are very secure. They have one side for the smaller dogs (25 lb and under) and another side for the bigger dogs. There are garbage cans but no poop bags available so remember to bring your own. There are also public metal water bowls and they turn on the water spout I'm assuming, once the weather gets warmer. It definitely wasn't turned on earlier this year. Benches can be located on the sides of the fenced in area for the humans and there's a covered area with seating toward the middle of each small and big dog side if you don't want to sit under the sun. A decent sized parking lot is right next to the dog park and there were always spots available the times that I have gone. It is very clean but of course that's also up to the people that frequent the park to pick up after their dogs and themselves. One time I was there, some guy brought his 3 dogs, sat on the bench and paid them no mind for 5-10 minutes. One of them pooped, he didn't pick it up and just left with all 3 dogs. Minus that one guy, all the other dog pawrents that go there were friendly and responsible from the times I've been there. I have heard of some of the bigger dogs fighting so just always keep an eye on your dog, whether you're on the big or small dog side. I highly recommend this dog park!

I say that because it 5pm on a gorgeous 80 degree Saturday and there were only a handful of people there! The ones that were there however were definitely taking advantage of all the awesomeness it has it offer. There is a nice little dog park, pier areas for fishing, basketball courts, fields, and even pickle and tennis. I really liked the tennis courts, especially how empty they were! They were so empty in fact that there were two friends using them as a roller rink! I think I'll come back here soon with a bunch of friends and spend the afternoon playing pickleball, fishing and bbqing!
