When visiting Saint Albans, VT we recommend trying the BBQ at Mill River Brewing BBQ & Smokehouse. The brewery has a great selection of IPA beers and cider drinks. We really enjoyed their BBQ brisket, marble cut with their cheddar mashed potatoes. It comes with a delicious cornbread muffin. We had a large party of 12 and they took $150 deposit to reserve the table just giving you an FYI. We had very good service and restaurant was nice and clean. Great atmosphere, good/great service and really good food. Offers your typical bbq fare but a lot of other options. Every time we go the food never disappoints and we almost always have leftovers to take home-- which reheat well! If you're in the mood for bbq and solid sized potions, hit this place up. Service, beer and menu were so great we returned for a second night in a row. The staff was different each night but every single employee was equally sweet and friendly. The first night we enjoyed beer and pretzel sticks and the beer cheese was epic! The second night we enjoyed duck fat fries, burnt ends, mac and cheese and chicken fingers tossed in VT Buffalo. Everything was perfect! A+ for the food and beer. Everything was made from scratch and locally sourced. Oh did I mention the corn muffin! An absolute must (and I'm not a corn muffin girl). I stopped here for lunch on Thursday. It's a small very clean pub/restaurant. The waitress was very friendly. I ordered the brisket Philly and it was delicious. I sampled a few beers and they were unique flavors and very crisp. If you have time to enjoy your lunch this is a perfect stop. read more

First time eating here, got takeout. Spinach salad was delightful, they didn't skimp on the walnuts nor the goat cheese, and the house dressing was a perfect match. Wings were amazing, very meaty and not the typical scrawny wings you often get at places. Grilled like on the grill when you were a kid, grill marks and smoky taste. Interestingly they have a thing online when you order that says you can't request all of one type (flats or drums) but they gave me all flats. Which are my favorite, but it's still weird. Only quibble is that I got the habanero bbq sauce. It tasted like regular bbq sauce that met a habanero once at a party 20 years ago. I guess what I'm saying is that it needed to be hotter! We visited here for the first time yesterday- were camping nearby & looking for dog-friendly lunch spot. Best damn BBQ & beer we've had in VT, NH, or ME! Friendly & fast service. Let me start by saying it was VT Maple weekend and the restaurant seemed overwhelmed. This is our second visit here and we returned for the food, beer, and staff friendliness. The restaurant now requires reservations but not by an app like open table or yelp. Sad surprise but they were able to accommodate us within reason. Wait times on food and drinks were really slow- better preparation would have made it better for all. Food was quite good but with better foresight it would have been a 5 star review. Suggestions to the establishment: 1. Use yelp or open table for reservations- several tables sat empty for too long 2. Hire a busser / food runner - too many dishes on table and fries were almost cold - you have fantastic fries when they're hot 3. Have condiments - not good to have no hot sauce, ketchup, S&P available - add to the table set - staff was working hard but not having items on table made it harder for the staff 4. We enjoyed a late lunch at Mill River! They had ample seating for us outdoors. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. I enjoyed the cheeseburger and yummy loaded mash potatoes as my side. After traveling all day and just wanting something to grab and go for dinner I am severely disappointed. I was hesitant to try BBQ here because it's Vermont, not Kansas City but from the reviews we figured we'd give it a shot. Now my boyfriend and I didn't dine in, we ordered over the phone and brought back to our hotel room. Does this change things? Im not sure. No napkins or utensils in the bag, no biggie! We asked our hotel and they provided. Next the food. We ordered split dozen wings and the sauce was really light on the wings and to me a little chewy. I wanted something filling but also a small portion so I got a cup of chili, it was just really watery and not very flavorful so that was also a disappointment. We got the burnt ends platter, the burnt ends themselves were tough and fatty, not the best combo. The saving grace! The loaded mash potatoes! Now THOSE i'd eat by the bucketful. They were flavorful, and a great portion for a side. Overall, after a super long day of driving, it was a pretty disappointing way to end our night. read more

Loaded Mash Potatoes are excellent. Service was great. I rate it as a 5. The day after Thanksgiving, I returned with the family. Since I'm a big fan of Philly Sandwiches, I decided to try their Philly Brisket which came with fries. I expected for $19 I was getting a great sandwich loaded with tender Brisket. Instead, I got the worst Philly sandwich ever. The brisket was cut into chunks and burnt to a crisp. It was almost inedible. The French Fries were equally bad unless you like grease. The waitress was ok, but the kitchen was slow as death, and at the time there were mostly empty tables. This meal I would rate as a 1. If I go back, I will stick with what I know is good. read more

The food a table of us 4 had was horrible. One got burnt chicken. One got a dozen wings no buffalo sauce as asked for and the wings were black. Two others had tacos that were so dry I asked for sour cream and the gold sauce. I got charged a $1.00 for a thimble of gold sauce! Chef was horrible and it wasn't the waitress fault she was sweet.
