Warm cider with cinnamon, butterscotch schnapps, and amaretto (we opted for no bourbon but that was an option)

Service, beer and menu were so great we returned for a second night in a row. The staff was different each night but every single employee was equally sweet and friendly. The first night we enjoyed beer and pretzel sticks and the beer cheese was epic! The second night we enjoyed duck fat fries, burnt ends, mac and cheese and chicken fingers tossed in VT Buffalo. Everything was perfect! A+ for the food and beer. Everything was made from scratch and locally sourced. Oh did I mention the corn muffin! An absolute must (and I'm not a corn muffin girl). Quaint little place with a great atmosphere. Busy for a Friday night, mostly locals, which speaks volumes for the business, in my opinion. I wish we lived closer because we would make it a regular date night place

I stopped here for lunch on Thursday. It's a small very clean pub/restaurant. The waitress was very friendly. I ordered the brisket Philly and it was delicious. I sampled a few beers and they were unique flavors and very crisp. If you have time to enjoy your lunch this is a perfect stop.

Maple fried ice cream!! I cannot say enough good things!!! Sooooo good!

We had the The Hawaiian Hog wood fire pizza and it was delicious. We topped it spicy honey and their homemade ranch. The staff were very friendly and they offer a military discount and double it on Wednesdays. We are from Chicago and this was probably one of the best pizzas we've ever had!

We enjoyed a late lunch at Mill River! They had ample seating for us outdoors. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. I enjoyed the cheeseburger and yummy loaded mash potatoes as my side. We split a beer and the cheesecake for dessert. Everything was really good, and it was a solid lunch experience! On a side note, we found a geocache on the other side of the parking lot, to boot! Icing on the cake!

After traveling all day and just wanting something to grab and go for dinner I am severely disappointed. I was hesitant to try BBQ here because it's Vermont, not Kansas City but from the reviews we figured we'd give it a shot. Now my boyfriend and I didn't dine in, we ordered over the phone and brought back to our hotel room. Does this change things? Im not sure. No napkins or utensils in the bag, no biggie! We asked our hotel and they provided. Next the food. We ordered split dozen wings and the sauce was really light on the wings and to me a little chewy. I wanted something filling but also a small portion so I got a cup of chili, it was just really watery and not very flavorful so that was also a disappointment. We got the burnt ends platter, the burnt ends themselves were tough and fatty, not the best combo. The saving grace! The loaded mash potatoes! Now THOSE i'd eat by the bucketful. They were flavorful, and a great portion for a side. Overall, after a super long day of driving, it was a pretty disappointing way to end our night.

Great food and service! Excellent restaurant in the St Albans area. We stopped on our way down from Jay and will be back. Great ribs. Brisket was dry to our liking, the burnt ends saucy and tender. Would order the ribs and burnt ends here. The spinach and artichoke fritters were very interesting and yummy they don't go too well with the cheese- the beer cheese not so yummy. Need more cheddar or heat.

Absolutely delicious food. Still dreaming about the marble brisket. Service was really great too! We will definitely be returning when we are in Vermont again!!

Loved this place! So much food I could not move afterward Big portions of delicious food. Drinks were nice, but the meal was absolutely the star! Favorite bites: The dressing on the salad was superb and the burnt ends were also fantastic!

This is a staple for dinning locally! Always good food that's easily paired with fresh craft beer and served by kind people.

I'm skeptical when a restaurant self-identifies as a "gastropub". The term is overused to the point…read moreof cliche these days but in this case it seemed right. The food wasn't just the standard pub fare; everything we tried that day was excellent. I had fish tacos and French onion soup. Two flour tortillas, packed with fried haddock, coleslaw, and a spicy remoulade, served with lime wedges. The tortillas were toasted for extra flavor and held together well, easily holding the generous fish portions and wet coleslaw. The fish was fresh and the batter was light and crispy. Portion size was reasonable. The onion soup was outstanding. The broth was full-bodied and rich and seemed homemade, not from canned stock - though I can't say for sure. It was a bit salty like most, but the seasonings (I noted thyme and pepper) balanced it. The cheese on top (Swiss I think) was nicely browned, the onions sweet and caramelized, and there were plenty of toasted croutons made from a French baguette. Scallions on top added color, some crunch, and completed the dish. When I got the bill I was pleased to see the soup was only $3 not $8 as listed on the menu, because they treated it as a substitute for the fries normally served with the tacos. Which was fine as I didn't really need fries - and I had some of the wife's anyway, which were very good. The wife had The Clothier: a sandwich with marinated fried chicken, pepper jack cheese, candied jalapenos, smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, and house-made spicy ranch. Excellent. For a drink I had a Citizen's Cider on tap, one of my favorites. Beers on tap - of which there were many - and the cider are offered in 16 and 22 ounce sizes. The menu had lots of options. The expected pub standards and also some unusual items liked fried green beans, tomato artichoke bisque, and an extensive baked mac & cheese selection. The desserts included "Our Famous Twiggie", a cookie (choose from 3) topped with ice cream, two kinds of syrup, and whipped cream. The cookie is baked to order and takes 15 minutes! The interior looked really nice, but the day was so pleasant we sat outside on the street-front patio, across from the St. Albans city park. It was so pretty with the bountiful floral arrangements in the park and on the sidewalks. I know it's not the restaurant's doing, but it really contributed to the ambience. Some other points to mention: The inside walls are covered with a rotating selection of local art, with the featured artist changing periodically. I don't know if the art is for sale or for display only. And the events calendar listed "Wine Wednesday" throughout August and September: 1/2 price bottles of wine. That's an event I would support!

They said it depends on the song. I asked to be seated in the main room and the hostess told us that when something opens up she's would let us know so we could move but she never returned. When we left there were plenty of seats available in the front. We certainly would have stayed and had more drinks after our meal to enjoy the music. On to the food. We basically all ordered the same thing in a different form! Haha! It was the Vermonter where you got your main dish with sautéed apples and maple bacon jam. We got the Mac and cheese, the wrap, and a burger on a gluten free bun. We were impressed with their gluten free options and the bun was so good, my daughter was nervous it was not gluten free! It was! And she felt great afterwards. All the food was good, the drinks we had were good, and the service was good. The place was cute and looked like a lot of fun if you were in the front room!

Lianne and Daniel did an excellent job catering our wedding. All of our guests were very impressed with the food and service, and the compliments just keep rolling in. From our first email exchange with Brandi during the winter through the day of the event in July, the staff at Let's Pretend were very communicative and professional. They helped us come up with a schedule for the day, and assisted us in putting up decorations and moving chairs and tables between the ceremony and dinner. This is really a full-service company. Even though we had less than 30 guests, the staff treated us like we were having a huge gala for hundreds of people (we were even lucky enough to have both owners, Daniel and Lianne, on-site the day of our wedding). They were willing to come all the way from Vermont, taking a ferry with all of their supplies, to make our big day amazing. Thank you!
