Mill Rose Inn was such a wonderful experience! Loved every moment of our time there. We had the main parlor to ourselves almost all weekend. Breakfast could really be improved but otherwise Gorgeous decor and vibe. Can't wait to go back!

Stayed here for one weekday night. I was able to checkin right around 3pm. I booked the room directly on the site, it was the cheapest one (not sure if smallest), but it was nice. Baroque Rose (Suite 2). It had a fridge, microwave, bathrobes, a heater and a TV. The bed was very comfy. The heater was one for a few hours and heated up the room real quick. I had to turn it off to sleep since I sleep at 68F. The living spaces are super nice with 2 main areas with fireplace, wine, brandy and some other brown liquor. I tried the brandy and red wine, both great. There is also coffee, tea, cookies, fruits and plenty of water. It was stocked! It's located in a central area in Half Moon Bay with free unlimited parking out front. I parked my car and explored HMB. Complimentary breakfast is at a local bakery and you have a limited menu option. I chose the eggs bfast. Doesn't come with bacon so u had to pay extra for it ($7 for a side of bacon is wild!) My bed was right next to the door to the room which is located in the main areas of the house so was scared that I'd be woken up by people I outside the room. Either I was the only one there or they made no noise or sound is well insulated, I have no idea. The only human I saw at any point is the host. The main con was that the wifi was extremely spotty, that was quite annoying. I made great use of the room and truly enjoyed staying here. For everything you get, highly recommended.

Mildew all over the walls in the very tiny shower

For the money, this was not worth the stay at all. I thought I'd splurge compared to our usual hotel visits for my husband's birthday and chose here. It seemed promising when we arrived. It was especially cold that night when we arrived. We were greeted by a very kind hostess and the event planner. We were given a tour of the common areas, told we could help ourselves to wine, sherry, brandy, the well stocked coffee/tea bar, fresh fruit, and fresh pastries. There was also bottled water available plus more in our room. They'd also turned the heater on in our room before we arrived so it would warm up. That was much appreciated. The bathroom was so bad. The shower is tiny. The walls have so much mildew on them. And the shower head is horrible. My husband even commented that the outdoor showers at most pools are nicer than this one. The room also only had a wall heater with no timer built into the bathroom wall, and a small plug in space heater, also with no timer, in the bedroom. So it was hard to control the temperature of the room. The cafe that they partner with was fine for breakfast. But the breakfast options included are super limited and a lot of the other options are much more appealing. It's a bare bones sort of breakfast compared to the rest of the offerings. But it was at least tasty. We thought we'd spend a relaxing weekend walking around the area and mostly relaxing at the inn. It was so cold Saturday. So after exploring for a bit we thought we'd come back and watch some movies. It was so loud though. I think there is a bar or something nearby. There was super loud music playing until after 10pm and it definitely didn't seem to be from here. The internet was also terrible, which made it hard to watch our movies and the cable options were limited. If this was a cheaper place, it would have been ok. But for the money, not at all. If I'm paying this much per night, I expect luxury. Not budget motel quality.

Many calling and no one answering

This was my first time staying here and the place is cute and very close to the shops. Upon arrival there was no one available for check in as advertised on the website and the front door. I also called the phone number on the website and the front door has posted to which no one answered. Thank goodness for a housekeeper and groundskeeper that called the owner (Sandra) to ask what is going on since several families were standing outside to check in. After 2 hours they did an over the phone check in. I spoke with the owner to express my disappointment and she told me if I don't like it I can go somewhere else then proceeded to hang up on me. I noticed in the common area there was a phone with an answering machine and I see there is 49 calls with messages that has not been answered. After checking the reviews more extensively I'm seeing this is not uncommon at this establishment, as it has happened before. I definitely will not return and I highly recommend other more accommodating hotels in the area. I will say the staff was incredible under the circumstances but didn't appear to be surprised at the time of the incident.

My best friend and I just got back from a girls night away here. The Inn was so cozy. Bottled water everywhere, wine out and cookies. It was such a great night away from our kids. The room was so comfortable and homey. I hope to be back soon!

Shared common space is perfect for photos!

If you're looking for a fairy themed birthday weekend, look no further! This beautiful property is covered in floral blooms, including a gazebo and fountain. The interior of the shared common space is vintage, and I loved the free red/white wine offerings along with the freshly baked cookies. The free breakfast at Moonside Bakery was a short walk away, and they fill you up! Our room was straight out of a fairy tale book and it came with umbrellas since the weather can drastically change within a day! There's lots of parking spaces available, and we enjoyed walking around exploring the shops on Main Street. Highly recommend and we're already planning to come back!

Cozy and quaint. Nicely furnished and well maintained. Breakfast included, provided by a local bakery (Moonside Bakery) a short walk away. Hostess (Stephanie) available 3-6PM for check in and questions-very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Coffee, wine, bottled water, sherry and brandy available 24/7 in common living room areas. All the conveniences of home.

Such a wonderful experience! Although we're in this pandemic, Terry was very attentive, accommodating and kind. Such a cute bed and breakfast with a relaxing atmosphere. Love the gazebo jacuzzi, the plants everywhere, and the interior. Highly recommend if you want a stay in Half Moon Bay!!!! absolutely great. The best touch was the card that was hand written from Terry and Eve. It's the small things that go a long way. Thank you Terry and Eve for such a lovely experience!

Mill Rose Inn is a whimsical romantic getaway in the heart of Half Moon Bay close to glorious beach walks and other coastal trails in the area. We arrived on a Friday afternoon and were welcomed by Eve, who we soon learned bakes delicious cookies and cakes set out on a sideboard for an afternoon, evening, or late-night treat. We were shown around the place by Terry shortly after. He explained everything clearly and kindly, pointing out all the quirks and operations of our room and the inn we needed to know, from how to book the jacuzzi, find a good movie to watch, work the gas fireplace and where to go for a meal. Not a moment later, we were drinking champagne in our room with the gas fire going, chatting and enjoying our view across to Montara Mountain on a sunny winter's afternoon. It set the tone for a beautiful weekend together. Our room was warm, cozy, and large enough to hang out in, with luxurious towels, a great shower, and a comfortable bed with plenty of cushions and quality linen to boot. We booked the Romance Package, which included a meal voucher for any restaurant in Half Moon Bay, and we look forward to staying at Mill Rose Inn again for a weekend soon. Eve and Terry have thought of everything to make sure guests enjoy their stay at the inn, and there's certainly a lot of soul put into this place. It's heartwarming to know old school accommodations such as this still exist. Highly recommend!

Location wise, short walk to the putting area and club house. The only drawback is it's a 2-story and no elevator. Good old fashion stairs with 2 landings before you reach the top. I watched a guest struggle, carrying HEAVY looking luggages to the second floor. My complimentary glass water bottle fell out of my purse and crash landed on the foyer floor as soon as we entered our room and I had to quickly use towels to sweep the shards and water before I can admire our space. I'm glad there was an abundance of towels as oppose to other hotels where it's an exact set on occupancy. Staff was attentive to get it cleaned up as well as provide an iron and board. They only offer steamer in the room. Our room is well appointed with nice calming colors. Loved how our room had a balcony. Not all upper units have one. A couple of inconveniences: the person below us had their music loud with bass during the day and then again during the evening around 10pm. I didn't call, as I was tempted to but only if it continued. They finally stopped at a decent time. The second was a first floor guest smoking weed. Some permeated through our window because I dropped my spoon on the floor (we ordered room service). It was verified when I opened the balcony door real quick to make sure it's what I smelled. We also experienced some odd protocols after we had a nice lunch at Mullin's (clubhouse). We thought it would be nice to have dessert at the outdoor ocean terrace area. We walked the grounds and asked if we can have a seat with shade. One staff went to check, however once I mentioned we were looking at getting dessert, the hostess turned it around and said for us sit at the bar or seating area beside the hostess stand. What was left were seats in the sun, plus in the seating area folks were sitting here and there. We wanted a table, which I did see there were some closer to the greens. I felt that as an overnight guest, it wouldn't matter dessert or meal, I'm a paying guest, not a visitor. So we left and went to check out The Conservatory. I checked in with the host and mentioned we'd like to have dessert (I was asked if any allergies) and was asked if we'd like the traditional seating area which would be a wait. We waited and got a table in the center. We got the menu and asked for the dessert menu. We were told not in that area, but the next one over. We were confused. I even saw the fake display dessert where we sat. And after all that waiting, we succumbed and just ordered food. Even with these oddities, we still had a great time. Staff provided excellent service. From check-in (Justin), adjusting keys for late check out (Stephen) to staff at Mullin's (we are there again before we left the property), golf staff, room service, to the front greeters at valet. The bag pipe performance, as he walked down the pathway was beautiful. The property views, just amazing!!!! We'd love to come back next year. The Ocean House would be the next spot.

They also offer gluten-free bread and pastry options, which I appreciate. Coffee, tea and juices included. There is no hot food. One thing to point out is the rooms do not have air-conditioning. This typically isn't an issue because half Moon Bay runs cooler and comfortable temperatures for most of the year but my husband and I do prefer a colder room at night time so we slept with the door open. There was no ceiling fan, but they do have a couple of portable fans stored in the closets for use. Shower in our room had low water pressure, so not great for those with longhair. The hotel is right next-door to Sam's chowder House so easy walk. Beach access-there is a beautiful walking path right downstairs, which you can access from the hotel. The only thing between the walking path and the ocean is some rocks. I was told by a local that the water directly in front of the hotel is not swimmable but there is beach access with some water about 5 minute walk down the path. The path is smooth so easy for strollers, bikes or other means.

As we decided at the end night to grab a cocktail to take back to the room, this is where it went bad! To provide the full picture, there were 3 ppl at the bar, enjoying their drinks. One table in the far back that a server was helping. I asked for a mojito only to be greeted with, "ya that's not gonna happen! We don't make those here!" A smart mouth comment does not elude customer service. If you don't like to work in the industry, find a new job!! Our drinks were subpar, and a lesson in customer service could go a long way. I would start with the basics. Even simply asking my husband if he would like to upgrade his spirit in his cocktail vs just quickly pouring and slamming a drink down. I strongly recommend your team reading "Unreasonable Hospitality!" It may make you think about how you made a lasting impression. For me it made me feel like I never want to come back. And, yes, I work in the hospitality industry so this was unacceptable! Do better! This is how one bad experience can make the lasting impression! UPDATE 7/29 I want to call out the Hotel Manager, Cecilio Reyes, for his "Unreasonable Hospitality"! He called me immediately to better understand the feedback that was provided. He went out of his way to pick up the phone and listen to what I had to say. This means more to me than a $10 drink at the bar. This in fact it shows that they truly about doing the right thing to ensure they keep a customer. You have no idea how this small act sends a message to your guests. I hope your leadership sees this to see how you truly elude unreasonable hospitality and ensuring that your customers return. My issue was not for anything other than. ensuring that others learn from the impact it could have on someone. Thank you, Cecilio Reyes, for your professionalism and attention to this situation that is now taken as a learning opportunity.
