Pros: charming, tastefully furnished and decorated room. Truly one of a kind. I much prefer this over the soulless, sterile nature of many hotel rooms. Per room heater was easy to locate and use. Easy after hours checkin, you just need to let the front desk know ahead of time. I booked the Terrazzo Queen which is an interior room and heard absolutely no street noise at all. It was very peaceful and quiet the entire time. Also -- this inn understands one often overlooked thing -- people drink water. There is a decanter of water ready in the room upon checkin and is refreshed after turndown service. There is also a water dispenser in the hallway with tea and a microwave. It's all in the little things. Cons: one slightly leaky tap in bathroom sink. Terrazzo Queen also has no direct sunlight. It opens to a terrace, which one would assume to be open-air, but in reality is covered and is more of a skylight. If you only book one of the rooms the knob is also locked so you don't get access to the terrace. Overall highly recommend. I was solo traveling and this place felt like a little home away from home. REALLY appreciated the vintage writing desk in particular! read more

The woman at the front desk was lovely. She was super helpful and welcoming. So the service was great. The hotel room on the other hand looked cute and charming, but for the price we paid, the quality was horrible. We could hear the upstairs neighbors the entire night (who knows what they were doing walking around everywhere at 3:30am) and didn't sleep at all because it was SO loud. The roof felt paper thin. There was an incessant scratching noise, which was either the neighbors or rats, which went on for hours in the very early morning. The rooms are beautifully appointed, including artisanal crosses on the walls. Beds are comfortable, kitchens are adorable and highly functional. Adviso: if you stay in the Uptown Suites, check WiFi before the office closes. We could not get wifi and had to lean out the window to pick it up from the main inn. When I called to ask for help the owner told me that I was interrupting her dinner and it must be that I don't know how to use wifi and there was nothing she could do. Won't be back here. read more

The place is hot, muggy, and extremely noisy. I had to complain 3 times before getting moved to another room. The owner was rude saying she wish she would've known about my complaints earlier because she was going to dinner. This is a fine-looking inn with a wonderful location on Main St in Half Moon Bay. It is dog-friendly, a must for us since we had our two dogs. Unfortunately, they charged an extra $50 per dog as a pet fee. The biggest drawback is that they have no parking lot, so you must park on the street and the hours posted limit how long you can stay. Luckily, we were told that since the pandemic, the city stopped issuing parking tickets, but presumably they will start giving them again at some point. read more

There is no heat (thermostat controls) in the rooms that I could locate -only a ceiling fan) but temperature in HMB is moderate year round (chilly in winter months). On a positive note, the breakfast was good and the location is terrific for that part of the coast and near downtown half Moon Bay. read more

Stayed in suite for around $300. Nice style, well stocked, but uncomfortable beds and way too humid. Dripping water on windows facing street and there was a large puddle of water on floor that would pool there after drying with towel. We did not shower and it was far away from any water tap. The bathroom was very humid and room smelled of mold. Front desk woman in summer was abrasive and unwelcoming, which is sad. Much $ was spent at this hotel and restaurant by associates. Rooms are a little smaller but very quaint and tons of character (at least the colossal king). Only negative is there's not someone at the front desk all the time. I can't seem to decide if I want to give them three or four stars. The bed is comfortable. Very soft. The bed squeaks though. So be forewarned. The decor is cute and the room was very quaint. The Madonna Queen is the only room I'm referring to btw. Room is small not much of a walking space if you have two luggages and a golf bag. The TV, I had trouble changing the channel. There was a lag to it. The odd thing the toilet at night had such a difficult time flushing. the running water from the toilet took over 15 minutes to stop. If you're sharing a room it could be rather frustrating. Cause if you need to use it next it can be a long walk. As you can see I was!! Then the next morning I was expecting it to happen but it didn't. Its so odd. I liked the tub in the restroom because it was nice and roomy. They provided free lotion, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Big bottles. You can't take it home but if you wanted, you can purchase some from the front desk. the bf and I were not a fan of the awful smell that it had but others may like it. It's all about personal preferences there. You may be woken up by people in the hallway because the walls are thin and the stairway and wood floors can be loud if you're a light sleeper like I'm. Free wifi and free parking but you need to display a parking permit from them. close driving distance to 7-Eleven, subway, Starbucks, etc.. Its walking distance to a lot of little shops that the bf and I didn't get to check out because we didn't have time. But if you do, I would recommend it. The closet has robes, extra pillows, and blankets. In the hallway there's a microwave, refrigerator with half and half, tea bags, mugs, &coffee that you can make. In the room, there's a pitcher of water, mugs, and a cofeemaker. Wood floors so pack slippers or sandals. There's no staff there at night. If you do a late check in there's a way but you just inform them that first. If you're golfing at half moon bay this is one of the hotels they work with. We purchased a stay and play package. I had such a nice stay here! We checked in later in the evening so grabbed our key card from the box outside and headed into the guest entrance...the second I stepped in I could tell how cozy it was and how much character it had. The decor and carpets and lighting are all beautiful and homey, and we stayed in the Piccolo Stanza which was the smallest room but had plenty of space for two of us! The room had wine glasses, coffee mugs, an awesome painting that I'll let you discover for yourself, and a nice tub in the bathroom. The noise outside the window wasn't too bad and worked well to get me out of the comfy bed :) The owner was so sweet and helpful when I forgot some items in the drawer in our room and she had them waiting at the front desk when I came back. Would definitely recommend, wish we could've stayed more nights here! read more

The hotel is nice, our room was clean and cute. The main problem is noise, we were unable to sleep, so even earplugs didn't make it better. We understand it's about the location, and management can't do much to solve the noise issue. The hotel is on the main street, which is good. We could reach the beach and restaurants by just walking. But we were so tired after sleepless night, and then get more tired after another. Cars, motorcycles, than garbage truck at 4 a.m. and then just constant extremely loud noise made by truck and some people, next to the windows. In words of that evil empire, "I'm Lovin' it". I was already in great spirits since my friend was getting married. The website gives a clear and accurate description of what each room includes too. I was able to check out the top-shelf Honeymoon Suite/#12 and the sad double-spinster room (with 2 twin beds) #1. I mentioned it was my friend getting hitched, so guess which room was mine :( ANYHOW- each room has a rennovated marble bathroom stocked with those organic Kisss-my-face-soaps. Everything is spic and span clean. Soft, soft white towels. These are the things that make this girl happy. The beds are super-high and comfy. Great pillows and incredibly soft bedding. I like that they splurge because the rooms aren't really inexpensive but you definitely get what you pay for. There are wall heaters along the floor for those chilly nights. However, there was no sign of any A/C. Granted, Half-Moon-Bay rarely heats up, it's just that it would be great to filter out the noise. 5am trash pick-up on Saturdays. Sucky-moto!!! The romantic suites are top notch. #12 had a living room, a bedroom and a kitchen and dining room including a deck. The kitchen had a coffeemaker and a regular sized fridge. OHHHH...ILLY COFFEE. YUM!!! I would come back. This place was beautiful. However, next time..it's for a king size room w/the apple of my eye. The twin bed thing sucked. read more

In early Fall 2009, we stopped in and asked about reservations, rates, and availability. Jaimie, the Innkeeper was kind enough to give us a tour of the entire Inn and all the rooms that were not yet occupied. There happened to be an opening the weekend of the Pumpkin Festival so we immediately made a reservation (not our first choice) for a room in the main building. Jaimie called a few weeks later to let us know there was a cancellation and she had the Cottage Suite (#15) available so we booked that instead (someone already posted a picture and incorrectly labeled it the Romantic Suite). We got to check in that Friday WAAAY early & Jaimie told us where to find the ice, complimentary tea & other goodies in the main building. The Cottage Suite is around the corner and upstairs from the main building. It's perfect because it has it's own private entrance off Mill Street and a small balcony with a place to sit and people watch or have a glass of wine. It also has a small sink, fridge, microwave, china, silverware, cork screw, wine glasses, etc. The bed was amazingly comfortable with crisp white sheets, lots of pillows (you KNOW how much I love extra pillows), a down comforter, cushy bathrobes, and a flat screen TV, all furnished in Shabby Chic and just too cute! Oh, and the toilet paper roses!!! It seemed like it was going to be a perfect weekend...then the sun went down. Between the noise from the streets being set up for the Pumpkin Festival to the noise from inside the restaurant and the outside patio below, the San Benito House bar across the street, delivery trucks, & fire trucks, we fled in the middle of the night for home. The next morning we called Jaimie and she was so apologetic and offered us a gift certificate for free night for any room, any time. We told her we'd come back in the winter. FAST FORWARD to this past weekend. While not as quiet as we like it, it was a little less noisy. My husband's observation is that the marriage between the Inn and "It's Italia" (the restaurant) is not a good one. When the restaurant closes, customers linger on the sidewalks below the Inn laughing, talking and taking FOREVER to say goodbye. Then car engines start, radios blare and tires squeal. This goes on for about 30-45 minutes. Then, just when you think you can fall back to sleep, the restaurant staff begin leaving and you have the same thing all over again with the talking, laughing, cars starting, etc., all right below (or outside) your window. To top if off, by 7am, the same staff is back, this time chattering away in the patio, setting up for lunch. The HMB Inn is more than 5 stars in my book, but truly, it is a shame it is attached to the restaurant. I wish I had a solution for handling the noise issue: put in air-conditioning so room widows can be closed, white noise machines in every room, better insulation? In any case, Jaimie wears THE BEST HATS! read more

I finally have time to write my review about this place which I have to say was very pleasant. A lot of the hotels allowed dogs but had a list of what type of dogs were allowed. Well the Half Moon Bay Inn didn't discriminate which was a plus so I went ahead and booked the Renaissance King room. It's a cute little room definitely a homie feeling to it. I can see why everyone says it's loud but to be honest it's right in the middle of downtown so of course there is going to be noise. There's a saloon right across the street which made it nice. The noise level was loud during the day but the windows keep a lot of the noise out so it didn't bother us. Let me say the bed was freaking comfortable as hell me and my fiance had the best sleep and didn't want to get out of bed lol. My dogs loved it as well they never barked or felt uncomfortable. It is only 1 mile away from the beach so to me it was perfect. They gave us free cheese, water coffee and milk in our room as well. I definitely would stay here again. read more

HMB inn was like a gentle breeze on a sunny day: warm and inviting, yet refreshing, laid back, and comfortable. The pics on the website are pretty accurate, but it's only upon arrival that you'll feel superglad you picked this place instead of a chain hotel. It fits right into the intimate feel of the town. Jaime, the friendly innkeeper, accommodates guests well with clean, kept, sun-drenched rooms and little touches such as pillow chocolates and complimentary Harney & Sons teas (check cabinet down the hall). I also experienced my 1st toilet paper rose -- so chic, ha! ;-) We fell in love w/ room #8 immediately -- so quaint, albeit a bit small. I also liked the terracotta terrace adjoining room #7, where our friends were -- like a private patio! As much as I loved HMB Inn during the day, it was really noisy at night and you could hear every little step in the hallway. I also kept wishing it was a bed-and-breakfast instead of just bed, period. The perfect location smack in the center of Main Street makes up for a lot though. A solid 4 stars. read more

Wow! Finally found a dog-friendly hotel in a superb location right in the heart of downtown Half Moon Bay 15 minute walk to the beach with free parking! What else can you ask for? Room-clean and nice decor. Lovely patio where my little fur babies played! Staff-friendly and helpful Service-free coffee, free hot water, free organic coffee creamer and sugar, free use of an electric water kettle, free tea (great selection too!) which I thought was lovely and thoughtful especially for those cold winter nights. Price-very reasonable! $25 dog fee per dog is the lowest i found in the area! Room rates also very reasonable. Hotel-Very cozy, only 15 rooms but tastefully decorated! What a charming, quaint inn within the midst of downtown! I bought my mom a night here as an early mother's day/late birthday gift. Upon check in, the lady (I forget her name, but she was super sweet!!!) offered me a generous glass of wine! We stayed in the Gemini room: a queen bed and a single bed. The room was eclectically decorated! I loved all of the knickknacks! The bathroom boasted a cornucopia of bathing products! A coffee maker lived in the room and a communal refrigerator enabled us to store milk. I turned down the window shades and slept like a baby in those soft, comforting linens. This was my second stay here, which should say something. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed and under renovation when I stayed this time. Oh, well. The room I stayed in (#8, I think) was cozy, would be small for two, but fine for me. There was a small wine bar (glasses, corkscrew, ice bucket) in the corner, so I was able to uncork a bottle of wine I brought along. The flat screen TV is nice, but I didn't really make much use of it. WIFI was free and reliable. The bed... oh, the bed! Lovely sheets, fluffy pillows, down duvet, and toss. Very cushy, very comfy, and is the thing I remember most. Very cuddly on a chilly weekend. But, that's the thing - it was early december, and cold, and the place was nearly empty (good = quiet, not-so-good = paying $175 for an off-season room with no restaurant or visible signs of support (desk closed right after I checked in). But, it was a quiet stay, and I was warm and comfortable - I can't complain. Walking distance to everything in Half Moon Bay, including two independent bookstores - a vanishing breed. Everyone is so friendly and goes out of their way to make us feel welcome. We honestly feel like we are part of the family here. The location is perfect because of its proximity to restaurants and shops. The beach is just a short drive away. We are also able to keep our small dog with us. This place is very pretty. The owners have put a lot of thought, effort and expense into the decoration of this place. It's like a bed and breakfast without the breakfast. The rooms are very nice, great sheets, nice amenities. Not the usual tiny bar of crappy soap but bottles of what appears to be locally made lotions, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. The place smells like a spa as you enter the lobby. Greeted by a very nice and helpful woman behind the counter. We had two rooms-the Terrazzo Queens that share an outdoor terrace. It's like an enclosed outdoor area. It's beautiful and private with lots of pretty plants and comfy seats and tables. A nice oasis to share with another couple for a glass of wine and some chat. However, there are other rooms that have windows that open to the balcony but no access. My only gripes were the odd smell and the strange noises. Its my belief that the noise probably emminates from the fact that this inn is partially above or attached to an Italian restaurant. There is some clanging around while they are open and when they are closing up for the night. Not sure if that slight lingering funny smell was attributed to cleaning solutions as I found out they cater to guests with pets, seemingly dogs. I'm all in favor of that, but I am also aware that they have accidents that need to be cleaned up properly and there are no signs of dog mess. The bed is great-wonderful high thread count sheets. Cute bathroom. I recommend this place and would come back again but would probably air out the room next time before going to sleep. read more
