My husband and I were driving home to LA from Northern California and decided to spend the night in Half Moon Bay. We didn't have any reservations and as we got closer to our destination, found this quaint B&B and decided to stop and check it out, even though I found a room on a 3rd party site. It was almost 8pm so the inn keeper wasn't on site but there is an intercom and a number to call for these situations. Sandra was very helpful and honored the price I had found on another site. Lucky us - the last room available was their Nantucket Suite! Check in was a breeze and Sandra walked me through the grounds via telephone, letting me know there was complimentary wine and cookies and also a hot breakfast served direct to our room in the morning. I loved our room! It was spacious and light, tastefully decorated and exactly what was needed after a few days on the road it also had a jacuzzi tub which I took full advantage of. Plush pink robes were provided as well. There is a coffee maker in the room, along with some complimentary water and some basic amenities such as :mini fridge, microwave, wine glasses, etc. a perfect place to stay for a few days even though we were only there for the night. The bed was a King sized and super comfortable; it had the perfect amount of blankets to cozy up in. Breakfast was brought at 9:20 (I chose the 9:30 slot so perfect timing) and consisted of scrambled eggs with chives, toasted English muffin with butter and jam, sausage and a variety of fruit, along with a cup of orange juice. A perfect way to start the day! We had a great night here and I highly recommend this Inn to anyone staying in the area. This is place is DARLING. So charming. My girlfriend and I stayed here on our trip from SF down to LA. Very spacious. Delicious breakfast and the jacuzzi addition was lovely. The hospitality was splendid. The attention to aesthetic was noticeable and adorable. Peaceful, yet rejuvenating. I love the whale theme; but was executed so tastefully. Nice location, just a bit south of the main business district in Half Moon Bay. I stayed in the miacomet room, which wasn't a very large room, but it was very comfortable, quiet, and well appointed. Note that with this room, you get a private bathroom, but you have to go outside of the room and access a separate door for the bathroom. Breakfast the next morning was very good, with scrambled eggs, sourdough toast, sausage, and a really nice bowl of fresh fruit! There's also a nice little outdoor patio area, where you can enjoy a complementary glass of wine, and enjoy the beautiful HMB weather. read more

My husband and I had reservations for one night at this inn during our vacation in California through Priceline and it was a nonrefundable reservation. However, we had an immediate family member be hospitalized and had to fly home early for a medical emergency. We contacted Priceline and given the circumstances, they were more than willing to refund us if the inn owner approved and they would not...even with medical proof. All other hotels gladly refunded us. Customer beware. Inn owner will not refund you (days in advance!) even for medical emergency with documented proof And would not return my calls. read more

This place was quaint and comfortable, with everything we needed and more. We checked in with Suzie for two nights, found the wine bar stocked, and enjoyed exploring the Inn and the town. We could walk to just about anywhere. The breakfasts were good but basic (no complaints from me here): yogurt with fruit and granola, scrambled egg, English muffin, two sausage, OJ, coffee, etc. on Saturday; fruit, pancakes, bacon, OJ, coffee, etc. on Sunday. There were pros and cons. The highlight was the B&B was updated with a modern feel. The included breakfast was great. After returning home I received a customer survey. In response I took time to provide my input on the pros and cons of our stay. However there was no acknowledgment or attempt to address the couple of issues that I did provide feedback on, so it's hard to not draw the conclusion the business does not care. read more

I recently stopped by here for a weekend family getaway with my husband and our 5 month old baby. It was our first family vacation so I was a bit nervous about how my baby would react to a new environment but overall everything went well! We booked the Nantucket suite which is more removed from the rest of the rooms, perfect for our situation. Sandra was super helpful over the phone when booking the hotel as well as when we were checking in outside of the 4-6pm window. The Nantucket suite is located on the second floor, accessible via stairs. They have a beautiful backyard patio area to lounge, enjoy the breezy HMB air, or enjoy their afternoon wine. The decor throughout the entire B&B was whale/nautical themed and the overall spot was very charming. The Nantucket suite is especially nice because you get your breakfast delivered in the morning. This was super convenient since it allowed us to eat without having to worry about prepping/bringing baby to any specific dining area. Staff was super nice too! Breakfast was delicious and filling, we pretty much cleaned each plate. The pancakes especially were yummy and fluffy -- SO GOOD. The room has an open concept, with the jacuzzi tub/rain shower open to the room and toilet separated. This allowed more natural light into the room, but was a bit clunky when it came to the practicality of it since whenever someone showered, it ended up making the whole room pretty humid + there's not much privacy for the person showering. This wasn't an issue for us, but something to keep in mind if you're not super comfortable with your travel partner! Another plus is that HMB Main Street, Poplar Beach, and other eateries are all within walking distance. Parking is always an annoying thing to deal with, so being able to walk and enjoy the air was a big plus. Overall, we really enjoyed our time at this B&B and would hope to be able to come back another day! read more

We had a lovely last minute stay here. I had a great idea to camp at HMB which I had planned for months. The wind was really bad during our camping trip so we ended up booking a room at the inn. We loved that it was walking distance to Pasta Moon but just far enough away from the main downtown thoroughfare. Our room which faced the street was extremely comfortable and had a nice fireplace and cozy bed. Prior to walking to Pasta Moon for dinner, we had some complimentary wine sitting by the window in our room. After dinner, we played board games in the spacious living room. In the morning, we had breakfast at the communal table with another couple. The innkeeper was very friendly. She insisted on making us more food when she realized we had our son with us. We played more board games after breakfast before packing up. They also have larger rooms in the back of the inn that you can rent and spend time with friends and family. Nantucket Whale Inn was simply wonderful and we'll be back. read more

This quaint property is lodged between an office building on one side and a childcare center on the other and across the street from the water management offices and a run down old building. It's on Main Street but a number of blocks from the restaurants and shops. Our room had a comfortable bed and a nice fireplace. It was pretty clean but had stained carpeting, a rusty bathtub and a filthy fan vent in the bathroom. There was no one onsite during our visit. Overall, it was very expensive for a mediocre experience and average property. Disappointed. read more

I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I was a little shocked by how old this B&B is. I mean, the floor literally consists of wooden boards. They creak when you walk on them, which means everyone in the house knows where you are and where you're going. I didn't have a very pleasant time procuring dinner, but found some pizza to bring back to my room. Once there, I discovered that the Wi-Fi didn't work in my room. The owners need to invest in a mesh Wi-Fi system. It's inexpensive and something I had to do at our house, because of signal and capacity limitations. I had a very cozy room, but it got cold overnight and the road noise woke me up a few times. Like I said, this place is old and the windows don't really keep out the weather or the noise very well. The other problem is that my bathroom only had one light that worked (unless there was another switch that I couldn't find) and when I went to take a shower, the bathtub leaked water all over the place. Maybe this is part of the Nantucket charm? I don't know. Anyway, it's a cute place that would be perfect for a romantic getaway. As for me, I just needed a place to crash for the night... read more

Lovely place! Beautifully decorated and super clean and quiet. Lots of privacy in the rooms, and the back sunny patio is a wonderful place to chat with the other guests enjoying a delicious breakfast or afternoon wine with homemade cookies. Available water bottles, fruit, mints, coffee and teas were such a treat! The staff was so sweet, kept a low profile, but were always there when you needed them. This is a nice Bed & Breakfast. I think the title is somewhat misleading. We were surprised, when we arrived, that the "Inn" was a Bed & Breakfast, as was another guest we met when we stayed there. The place is quiet and has several features in the room that give it character. We were expecting some type of custom motel. The breakfast was nice, but not spectacular. There is no offering of any cereal and the amount of food offered is adequate. For example, the typical meal is a yogurt parfait (the glass is filled only half-way) and scrambled eggs. If you don't like eggs, they will give you some hash browns or potatoes. Bacon is offered on some days. A basket on the table has bananas and apples. Orange juice, coffee, and tea are offered. Cookies, bottled water, and biscuits are available almost all the time. Heating of the room is via a gas powered fireplace. Ours quit after about 30 minutes, and although the manager came out the next day to restart the pilot light, it quit again. We gave up on that way of heating the room. They also have a small electric fan heater, which was fine. Bathroom is tight. You shower in a tub, and the shower curtains contain the water mostly to the tub, but the space for a person is extremely narrow. It takes forever for the hot water to come on. The "snake" attachment to the shower head pipe didn't work. The sink placement relative to the faucet means that water will invariably drip onto the wooden frame, making wood rot an eventual problem. But overall, the bathroom is adequate and has a good fan for moisture. Someone with a movement disability will definitely have a challenge. The bed is relatively firm but is raised quit a bit off the ground. The floor boards creak quite a bit when you walk on them, which was not really a problem for us, but I wonder about the person below us. The TV and chairs were good. There is no real desk to conduct any work. The inside appearance of the room looks very nice. From the Inn's location, it is a fairly short walk down to all the shops. You can easily drive there and park. The only people somewhat in charge of the Inn are the maids and cooks. If you have any problem, a phone number is supplied, and they answer 24/7. Internet access is free and is fairly fast. Everyone is very nice. The room doesn't get very dark at night, even with all the shades pulled down. There is a lot of ambient light from outside. This bothered my wife. Would we stay here again? Probably not. It takes a certain personality to love a Bed & Breakfast. We are more standard hotel type people. read more

This felt more like a corporate business than a warm and cozy B&B. Here are some pro's and con's. Pro's: Great location at the quiet end of Main Street with many stores and restaurants in easy walking distance. Everything was clean and modern. Our Sankaty room had a fireplace and jacuzzi tub and we gladly used them both. The garden outside had a lovely water feature and firepits to snuggle up to when it got chilly. The young lady who greeted us when we arrived was very nice. Con's: Nobody on-site 24/7. They want you to check-in between 4pm and 6 pm though, you can call for other arrangements. It would have been nice to have a snack available with the evening wine, even if it was just crackers or nuts. Breakfast was perfunctory at best: overcooked scrambled eggs, 2 sausage, an english muffin, but with a lovely dish of fresh fruit. At over $250/night it would be nice to feel like they put some effort into making the morning feel special like many of their competitors do. Maybe some cheese or yogurt or a basket of baked goods could be added. read more

I recently had surgery so for my anniversary we decided to keep it local and relax. We landed in the beach city of Half Moon Bay at the sweetest B&B. We usually always opt for hotels but I wanted the feeling of home without being home as I recovered. I had almost forgotten the intimacy that comes with these stays. Our host was very kind and informative. The place is well kept with attention to detail. There is a relaxing outside patio with a soothing water fountain and fire pits. Complementary wine is just at your fingertips making the patio even more inviting. The weather is perfect in this area and we often just sat and talked and relaxed in the breeze. We came down for breakfast the next morning and they accommodated our dietary and as a meat replacement we were served a yummy cauliflower patty with eggs and English muffins. I almost forgot that for starters we were given a fruit bowl with lots of different fruits. Coffees, teas,creamers,orange juice, all presented and ready for you to enjoy. We took our time walking Main Street and popping into shops. The next morning we were served pancakes, vegetable sausage, and yogurt parfait. We had coffee on the patio, relaxed just a bit longer then headed back home. P.s. You are also not too far from the beach! This was the perfect way to spend our anniversary but don't wait for a "special occasion" to enjoy this place! read more

My husband calls me high maintenance and picky. So when I tell you this is a good place, I mean it. We did get the largest room that's upstairs. It was perfect because it had ac and it was far away from the other rooms. We went in July where the weather is about 63 during the day. If you hate hot and humid weather get a hotel with ac because when we turned it off our room was warm. I don't think the other rooms have ac also I don't think most of the hotel in half moon bay have ac. They have a cook that makes breakfast every morning. There's free wine and coffee in the main lobby. The parking is small and fits about 4 cars and one extra car can park in the back. This place was clean. The other rooms are close distance to one another so it seems like it would be hard to get privacy because during my breakfast time, I can hear the other guests in their room. Also if people are coming through the main door I'd imagine it would wake you up in the middle of the night. read more

Decided a few weeks ago that my wife and I needed a little gataway. Decided on Labor day weekend. Many hotels booked or charging a lot. Found this place on yelp and they had rooms available!! David also was prompt in answering questions I had. We checked in around 145 to ask where we could park while we waited for the 4 oclock check in. Sandra greeted us and said room would be ready in 1/2 hour and we could park in the wee parking lot if a spot was available. We went to town and on our way back she saw us. Gave us entrance code and told us where our room was. We were so IMPRESSED with the extra cleanliness of the room. You could smell and tell the room was clean. This meant a great deal to us especially dealing with COVID and me being immune compromised due to breast cancer treatments. We felt safe and comfortable in our room and the Inn itself. Why we loved this place: ** Wonderful clean and nicely decorated room. (Great Point room) OMG bed was so comfortable. Could have stayed in it all day!!!! Wanted to take it home. LOL **Room had lots of light **Chairs in room very comfortable **Very accommodating with my special breakfast request. Able to also eat inside or out. Breakfast was yummy. Orange juice/water and coffee available. **They have wine and glasses available at 4 ish. On our first day Sandra had us pick a bottle to take to our room **Little outdoor seating area with relaxing water feature was nice. **Walking distance from historic downtown HMB All around awesome experience and look forward to coming back someday soon. We came in with a group and I think we took up the entire house for the weekend. We had to eat all I shifts and even in the shifts the food came out individually which kind of stunk as when we are don't at different times and others had to eat so we could t socialize at the table with them. Unfortunately my husband had to be rushed to the hospital he had what we know now a mild seizure due to stage 4 glioblastoma cancer. I emailed the Inn asking if there was anyway in which we would be able to get any of our amount refunded. Not a word back from them they just ghosted the email. I will never go back nor recommend just due to the fact that they couldn't/wouldn't even reply to my email. The place isn't cheap that is for sure! So on top of an emergency room visit and this it ended up being a very expensive weekend. read more

Really uncomfortable stay. First, there is zero hospitality, you call them and let yourself in. Never saw anyone. The room was bad. No ventilation, the one window is in the shower portion of the room, the shower is in the bedroom, you can't watch the tv because the desk it's on is lower than the bed frame. I finally fell asleep at 4 am so I got a good 3 hours of sleep on Christmas Eve. What a nightmare. read more

My wife and I stayed at the Nantucket Whale Inn to celebrate our wedding anniversary and are so glad that we did. We wanted a low-key, relaxing getaway, and Half Moon Bay certainly fit the bill. While it was a holiday weekend with beautiful weather, activity in the heart of downtown was lively, but not overcrowded. Our stay at the NWI couldn't have been more perfect. The staff was welcoming and hospitable, the room was spacious, comfortable, spotless, and pristine throughout, and the breakfast was served fresh and delicious. Parking was always available. Shopping and dining was just a short walk away, but far enough to provide lots of peace and quiet. The only time we needed to get in the car was to drive about a mile to the beach to catch the sunset. It's hard to believe that this experience is just a short drive away. We really enjoyed our stay, highly recommend the NWI, and will surely be back again. read more

It was my first time staying at a B&B and it did not disappoint. It's exactly what I pictured a B&B to be like. They were very accomodating and the place was very quaint and charming. It is located right in the heart of DT HMB so a great location and walkable area to thr beach, shops, and restaurants. They had small snacks, coffee, tea, and water, games and movies available 24/7. Boy oh boy my girlfriend and I had a relaxing stay here at the Nantucket. Perfectly set in walking distance to shopping and great food. We stayed in the Nantucket suite, it was very clean and cozy. My girlfriend and I travel to a new place one or twice a month and we book rooms that have a jacuzzi tub in the room, it's our thing we like to soak our troubles away in the privacy of our own room. The tub in this room was great. Very deep tub. Two people can fit, a little snug for two people but not snug enough that you are on top of each other. I will say it does take forever to fill up the tub. Almost like turn on the faucet go to dinner and when you get back you are half way there! Not really but it does take about 15 to 20 minutes to fill. That being said still a great soak. The bed was super cozy and sits high in the sky so you feel like a king looking down at your land! And because this is a bed and breakfast you wake up with a delicious breakfast delivered to your room to start your day off right. I give the Nantucket my seal of approval. You will have a "whale" of a time here! read more

Incredibly cozy bed and breakfast. I didn't have the opportunity to have breakfast due to needing to be back on the road early, but I'm sure it would have been amazing. David was so kind, and welcoming. I stayed in the Siasconset room. The room was warm and inviting, so so cozy. We were in the Lightship room....has 7 windows and overlooks the patio with a lovely waterfall that you can hear clearly from the room. We loved our stay at Nantucket Whale Inn. I was looking for a coastal place to rest our head close to San Francisco Airport after 9 days exploring National Parks. I realized I needed 2 days to relax and was able to add an additional night. The room was very comfortable, had direct tv to catch up on the world. Our breakfast was great, a yogurt parfait, eggs, sausage and toast. it was large enough that we didn't need to eat lunch. what sets this place apart for me was the late afternoon wine they set out and the common spaces. we chatted with people from the Netherlands, Sweden, and some semi local folks on a getaway. I tend to keep to myself but the outside patio was ideal for relaxing and socializing. The only downside was figuring out the tub/shower combination and getting the water at a comfortable temperature. i would most definitely stay here again read more

This is the best place to stay in Half Moon Bay! Trust me. I am extremely picky about where I lay my head and everything was amazing. Picked this place on a whim after a disappointing experience at a supposed 4-star Santa Cruz hotel (awful). Wish I would've stayed at the Nantucket Whale all three nights I was in California. The bed and the sheets. That's it. The best. The room was spotless and neat. The shower is all you need after a long day out in the sun. Wine and cheese every night was something to look forward to! Overall, the entire inn is exquisite and invites you to relax. Attention to detail is evident everywhere. The renovation was very well done. Proximity to beaches, shops and restaurants along PCH is great, and early morning drives to San Francisco or San Jose are easy and enjoyable. The scenery is breathtaking. The proprietors were very genuine, down-to-earth and helpful. They honestly cared about our stay. Attentive and personable. If I ever find my way back to the area, this is the only place I'm staying. The room was comfortable and very pleasant, and I really appreciated both the gas fireplace and the space heater (because December). The claw-footed tub was very grand. We had a couple of minor maintenance issues -- one burned-out light bulb and a loose faucet handle on the sink -- which were both fixed within about 15 minutes of our reporting them! Could not rave about this place enough! This place is beautiful and absolutely charming. The location is right outside downtown Half Moon Bay and a short walk from tons of yummy restaurants and cute shops. However, it's still far away enough to be secluded from any downtown noise. Their breakfast was delicious and they have the cutest little backyard to eat in! The decor was reminiscent of cute coastal towns on the east coast and explains why the inn is so aptly named. Definitely will be returning next time I'm in the area. read more
