We booked a quick overnight stay at Half Moon Bay Lodge for our 1 year wedding anniversary and for the most part, we really enjoyed our stay! Our stay was around $500 for one night, which felt pretty steep for what you get. I personally wouldn't say it was worth $500/night but if you can find a lower rate, I think it would be a great option! Check in was super easy and they actually let us check in about 2 hours early. We mentioned to the front desk that we were celebrating our 1 year wedding anniversary & they surprised us with a complimentary bottle of wine which was such a sweet touch! Our room was spacious and we had a partial view of the golf course. I loved the balcony to relax. The bed was really comfortable and parking was easy. One thing to know: THERE IS NO AC! Our room was pretty stuffy but thankfully we were on the second floor and were comfortable sleeping with the sliding door open. I probably wouldn't have felt as comfortable doing that on the first floor. I had also heard that the walls can be pretty thin, but luckily our neighbors were quiet during our stay, so we didn't have any issues with noise. The jacuzzi was a highlight! It's large and the jets are nice and strong. They also have a beautiful outdoor patio area with couches, tables and chairs, fire pits, and outdoor games, which would be really nice for hanging out with friends or family. The location is excellent, only about 3 minutes from the Ritz-Carlton and the Half Moon Bay Golf Links/Ocean Course, so it's super convenient if you're planning to golf or explore the area. The complimentary continental breakfast was probably the most underwhelming part. They had bagels, oatmeal, cereal, scrambled eggs, sausage, and waffles. It was fine, but I was surprised there weren't any potatoes or a few more options. We enjoyed our stay! I'd definitely consider staying here again, especially if I could find a better rate. It's a comfortable, convenient spot with some really nice amenities and a great location! read more

If you love ants, not sleeping, and mediocre service; this is the place for you. We brought our baby for what we hoped would be a relaxing, beautiful stay. We were placed right next to the check in area. Between their cobblestone floors and that placement, our baby stayed up all night. The room had no insulation to speak of. We could see through the bottom of the door. With fresh guests and rolling trash cans, there was no hope for sleep. Our shower was covered in ants. Our towels were covered in ants. The ceiling. The wall. Everywhere. No offer of help. No room change. When we had finished our last awful night of sleep, we asked for 20 minutes of extra check out time because: exhausted baby and parents. Zero flexibility. The breakfast is disappointing for the price. The eating area is at least okay. A nightmare of a stay. read more

This is a gem and love the fact they are dog friendly. We stay here offer but this was first time staying with our fur baby Dino. Plenty of open areas for dogs to have potty breaks and plenty of dogs to have social time. The room was clean and the staff were exceptional. The lobby looks new and beautiful. Our room 128 Smelled like mildew; especially strong in the bathroom. Room REALLY needed updating. The old ugly bathroom needs at the very least painting and deep cleaning. The exhaust fan for the shower barely worked and so all our cosmetics in the small 1-sink bathroom were soaking wet, literally from the shower mist in the air, even though the window is open 24/7. There is no air conditioning; just a low hanging ceiling fan, which I didn't want to use as based on the condition of the room I thought it might be full of dust and did not want to broadcast it. In our room there were only decaf coffee pods, not regular pods Bed was VERY comfortable. All considered, I would never stay there again, nor recommend it. Cost was $381/night + taxes = $443.75/night. High for the area, especially for a motel with no breakfast included and in the condition it is in. Understand that it's not a resort so there is no turndown service, 24 hour reachable staffing, etc. read more

This is a beautiful little hotel that is Spanish style. We got in late and didn't get a chance to walk around the property. They served a continental breakfast with eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, make your own waffles. Peet's Coffee was also offered and that made me happy. It was reasonable in price. But when we arrived, the front desk refused and said they'd text when ready -- not until 3 PM. I worked in my car while my husband took the kids to the beach, and my laptop died. That night at 8:30 PM, I got a noise complaint call about "stomping," even though we weren't loud. Spent the rest of the trip telling my kids to tiptoe. The property is clean with older bathrooms, good breakfast (eggs, sausage, waffles), a heated pool, and a nice fire pit. Staff was available but not especially friendly. This is a nice little hotel. Located very close to the Half Moon Bay golf course. The rooms are simple and clean. Some rooms have fireplaces. There are fire pits and a little game area outside. Staying here at the moment for only 1 night but it feels kinda sketch. The hotel is right behind the chapel off of highway 1. I got lost trying to find the main entrance as I was driving after sunset. I was going round and round in circles bc of the lack of street lightning. We booked a king bed for $150 and the room feels like any typical hotel room. But there are definitely some spots that can be updated like the windows and bathtub. As part of my hotel inspection (as I've seen other people do online when first checking into a room) is to check all the closets and behind the curtains in case someone else is in the room before me and I found someone's pair of clothes underneath my bed... The following morning, I had breakfast at the fireside room that overlooks the pool area and it is very cozy, the furniture and tables are arranged very nicely. The food options are pretty standard. Some eggs, sausage, fruit, bagels, and oatmeal. However, I guess if you are not a morning person then don't book here bc there was a worker banging on EVERY guest door at 8am. I was like "is someone's suitcase being dragged across the ground but noooooooo, someone is literally aggressively knocking at people's doors". Not sure what they were looking for and if this was for only today or it is just a regular occurrence here that I don't know. read more

Check in is suppose to be 4PM but we finally got a room at 4:30PM. The drawers in the dresser all opened when you pulled open the top drawer every time. The closet doors were not opening and closing correctly. There were dead bugs on the ceiling in the shower along with a live bug in the rug. They were remodeling the hotel while we were there but were not told. There is a golf course behind them and mowing starts behind the hotel every morning at 6:30AM. The maid redid our room one day and did not refill coffee or water. The continental breakfast was good. Not going back however. read more

Came here for Sunday evening stay. My kids loved the fire pit for s'mores and the hot tub. The complimentary breakfast with board games for children was much appreciated. I don't know why they call themselves a "hotel." This is not a hotel; it's a MOtel. It's basically a glorified motel. The photos online make it look a lot nicer than it actually is. Putting aside the staff, who were very nice and accommodating to me, the place itself was such a disappointment to me. I had to leave early because my elderly dog became very sick so I had to shorten my stay. And the staff was very accommodating for me about that, so I give 5 stars to the staff. But I wouldn't have wanted to stay longer anyway because I was so disappointed in the room. There was no air conditioning, the room had a weird odor, the tv was archaic (no smart TVs- just switching blindly between channels), very thin walls and you could hear every sound, low pressure shower, loud crickets outside the door, did not feel clean, old rickety furniture with drawers that kept sliding open, etc. I read some reviews online talking about the bugs in the rooms (ants and roaches). One guy woke up with bumps on his legs. I didn't see any bugs in my room but I wouldn't sleep in the bed- just on top. It just did not feel clean. I wish I had checked the reviews before booking. As for not feeling the bed was clean, in the morning I woke up with half a bandaid stuck on my back with a blood spot on it. Where that came from, I don't know. So gross. And I got woken up at 6am by a garbage truck sounding its "beep-beeps" in the parking lot. Not a good stay. I couldn't wait to leave. I don't understand any of the 4- or 5-star reviews. These reviews are either fake or by people who are used to janky places. This is a 2-star place at best. And again, this is not a hotel- it's a motel. When I left I felt like I just got out of Motel 6. I will never come back. Very nice staff though- I'll say that. Thank you but no thank you. read more

We stayed here for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary, Great little property with really amazing outdoor amenities. Year round heated pool (which was amazing) plus the hot tub, exterior fire pits, sauna , etc. They have a very nice continental breakfast but it's nicer than a continental as described. Rooms are very nicely appointed and large in size. Our rooms heating system was inferior (wall heaters very confusing) and should be upgraded. Our rooms bathroom was outdated but clean. My fiancée and I spent one night here. Overall we enjoyed our stay here. The front desk employee was friendly and helpful. I don't remember her name, however she educated us on all the amenities and recommended some restaurants to us. I think it's really cool that they offer complimentary bikes for the first 2 hours. We didn't get a chance to ride their bikes but hopefully next time ! The fire pit and outdoor seating area was quite relaxing. I always appreciate a complimentary breakfast. The food and beverage choices were solid. Our room had a spacious patio with a nice view of the golf course. Now comes the negative and it has to do with the appearance of the room we stayed in. Some areas of the wall, had chipped paint. The bathroom could have been a bit cleaner, to be more specific, around the sink, ceiling and window. While showering, I observed dead ants stuck on the ceiling above the shower and along the window. Just not a good look. These things weren't deal breakers, but I definitely recommend a little more attention to detail when preparing these rooms for the next guests. We stayed here for 1 night. I was initially worried due to some of the reviews on here, but it was way better than I expected. The lobby was very cute and the ladies were very helpful with everything. The room was much bigger and nicer than I expected. We got room 239, which was a Deluxe King with a fireplace and there was a balcony, I'd recommended this room. The reason I took 1 star off was because there was a weird tapping noise throughout the night and we couldn't quite figure out what it was, but I still managed to fall asleep. The bed was super comfortable and the fireplace added a nice ambiance. Overall, I would recommend if you're looking for a place to stay for the night in HMB! read more

What a wonderful place! Went to Pescadero and decided to spend some time here first. Great location and close enough to take Uber from downtown half moon bay. Our room was clean, spacious and even had a fireplace! So beautiful! When we needed help trying to figure out the fire, the staff came super quickly with some supplies for us. In the morning, they had a yummy buffet with plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor, so that provided great variety and options. Lots of choices of food too! The lodge is clean, the facilities were all very well taken care of, and it is all kept up and fresh. Would definitely stay here again if I was in the area! read more

We were excited to change hotels and try something new. We travel with a beautiful Golden Retriever who is such a gentleman, not a barker, jumper and such a sweet boy. When we arrived we received a packet stating we are never to leave our dog alone in the room. This is a first. He has his own fluffy bed, doesn't jump on furniture, or beds, so at times we may leave to grab a bite, walk around the premises, pool or spa. THIS NEWS WAS A TOTAL TURN OFF!! The hotel is old, and needs work. Our door had such a big gap underneath I could see the pavement. We had to put a towel at the bottom to keep the draft out. The heater is built into the wall, and when I touched the wall, it was HOT! I WAS AFRAID OF A FIRE STARTING. The sliding door was hard to open and close. They were doing some major roof renovations, so it was noisy. The breakfast was good, eggs were light and fluffy, but the sausage tasted like cardboard. First off, DO NOT let the PICTURES posted online DECEIVE you. This hotel's is far beyond the pictures posted online. My husband and I stayed two nights and our experience in Half Moon Bay took a turn due to the experience we encountered at this hotel. Yes, the room was tidied up upon our arrival. The furniture is OUTDATED. Horrible channel options, the majority of the channels were commercials. The room was beyond freezing and the heater system was not enough to support the square footage of the room. The heaters they have only heats up the wall. Our room had a fireplace which was nice but the fire logs they provide doesn't not last more than an hour. I don't know about you guys but I love warm water and great water pressure. The water in the shower is cold even when you have it at the hottest option. The water pressure is also TERRIBLE. The tub was not cleaned properly. My husband also noticed ants in the shower. There were also a great amount of ANTS along the wall and on the dresser where the tv sits. We decided to tell the front lobby and they stated they would go check up on the issue. But their main concern was if the ants were trying to get any food. Regardless of eating in a hotel I have never experienced that amount of ants or this issue in particular. They SOMEWHAT cleaned up the ant situation but there was still ants. The bed also was not that comfortable or the cleanest. My husband woke up with bumps on his legs and back. Instead of splurging on false pictures of the property for their advantage they should invest in remodeling the property and prioritize cleanliness. read more

The stay, and customer service was amazing! The room was huge with a fireplace, and a balcony facing the golf course. You get to free logs per night for the fireplace, it has a refrigerator, and if you need a microwave they will bring one to your room. There's a restaurant in the parking lot, or you can drive about 5 mins away to find a couple of eateries. *two free logs. We very much enjoyed our stay at the Half Moon Bay Lodge. The front desk was very kind and accommodating. We enjoyed the pool, spa, and loved having a fireplace in our room! That's a must! They even had kid sized robes for pool time. The breakfast they served had variety and was delish! We only stayed one night and wished we had two to enjoy the beautiful grounds. There are multiple outdoor fires to sit by, s'mores kits for purchase and more (alcohol for purchase). We can't wait to go back! read more

This is an outdated and dirty Best Western type hotel at best. Prices were driven up due to a wedding, so nightly prices were completely incomparable to the level of comfort. Our room was also a mess upon arrival and the foldable crib we received for our baby was stained all over and filthy. I wiped it down and my wipe was brown. Do not stay here if you have a choice. The manager did not help us with the price except for a minor discount on the first night. I only have a photo of the white sticky substance on our dresser which I wiped down. read more

So...for over $300.00 I WOULD NOT ever stay here. For $85-$100, I would. I'll explain. There were minor annoyances that for $300+ a night, you shouldn't have to deal with. Deal breakers? Yes, but only at that price. The floor in the room is obviously uneven. The dresser doors were constantly coming out, without being touched. If you're getting up in the middle of the night and you forget about it, your groggy self may hit them like I did. The crack in the bath room sink was very obvious and perhaps it wasn't fixed right as it had a slight mold smell to it. The window in the bathroom is above the shower and faces the outside doors. So as people walk by, you can hear them urinating/showering etc. On our last morning ants were all over the bathroom. We did our best to kill them, with what we had. The furniture in the room is oddly placed. The fire place in our room was right in the center. The TV was on the dresser and the bed was place on the opposite wall, in between both of them. I feel like they should splurge and hang the TV on the wall above the fire place. The TV programming was awful. We were on a kid free get away, so at night my husband and I wanted to watch a movie uninterrupted. It was the old guide, where you would have to sit there and watch it, because you couldn't scroll yourself. The room was clean, but if you really looked at the fine points, it wasn't great. Dusty in areas. See pictures. The rest of the property was nice. Nothing stood out about it though. The hot tub always had an old sign that said closed, but it was weathered so you questioned if it was for the current day or not. For the amount of money you spend to stay...it just wasn't worth it. You should splurge to stay at the Ritz (which is AMAZING), or just find a cheaper hotel with the same amenities as the Half Moon Bay Lodge. read more

Had a girls weekend getaway. IRooms were decent enough. Bathroom was quaint with a lovely Mediterranean blue tile. Tub looked a little grungy so showered with my flip flops. Room was on the bottom floor so could hear the upstairs folk's walking around. Stay came with free continental breakfast which was great. Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate were served all day until 10 pm. The lodge is family friendly. A great place for a casual stay. We enjoyed our stay. read more
