My daughter and I visited a few weeks ago and this place is a hidden gem! Lori made us feel very welcomed when we checked in. My husband had just passed away and we needed a little getaway. This was the perfect destination that soothed our souls. The Seals are within walking distance to view! The ocean is literally within steps of this cozy, beautiful inn. Hiking trails all around within walking distance! They let us use comfy bikes everyday which we took advantage of and biked to Half Moon Bay and a few ocean view restaurants. This is a beautiful and clean Bed and Breakfast! We had a gorgeous view of the English Garden from our spacious room. The daily breakfast included fresh berries, egg and cheese, fresh croissant and granola! The unlimited European lattes added a nice touch! We felt so spoiled with the homemade cookies in the afternoon and the free wine tasting in the evening around five. The entire staff was so friendly, helpful and made us feel right at home. This is a classics inn located in the moss beach area . It has seals visiting the beach by the inn from time to time , some season you can see the pups with the seals . I love the cozy ambience of the inn . You can sit by the fireplace and listen to the sound of the waves and sip a cup of coffee . The beds are comfortable and service is great ! This was a top-notch stay near Half Moon Bay. Our room was spacious and nice, with a gas fireplace and a balcony overlooking the garden area with a glimpse of ocean in the background. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom clean, and hiking trails were just outside the door. There was free espresso in the lobby and a coffee maker in the room, also complimentary. There were coolers on both floors with complimentary soft drinks, water, etc. and filtered water dispensers. Happy Hour included free beer and wine in the lobby. There's a lovely dining room but we chose to enjoy our complimentary breakfasts in our room. What made it special, though, was the service provided by Sharon and Sue who were always ready with smiles and help with whatever we needed. The Inn makes its own chocolate chip cookies. You could hardly pass by the front desk without Sharon or Sue offering cookies. Restaurants in the nearby harbor district close early, around 8:30, probably because it's also a residential area. Our niece, who was selling ceramics at the Art and Pumpkin Festival, couldn't get to us in time for dinner out, so my wife bought takeout from Mezza Luna ("half moon") Italian restaurant and we ate in the dining room. Sharon kindly stayed late and provided place settings. The inn is next to the Marine Preserve. A lovely, easy hiking trail is accessible from the garden. Seal Cove Inn is just a short drive, about five minutes, from the city of Half Moon Bay. I'd definitely stay there again when I'm in the area. read more

I remember seeing this place waaay back when I was in high school and thinking how love to stay there someday. This past weekend we stayed there and what an Amazing experience! It's so beautiful and clean. Everyone there is nice and so pleasant. At check in we learned of all the fantastic extras they provide like the espresso machine, drinks in fridges to have, the wine and beer cart at 5pm, and they take your breakfast order for the next day. I had delicious and clean breakfast - was able to stay gluten free with no problem and enjoyed the protein packed meal. The backyard area is charming! Watching the quail and bunnies back there while enjoying wine at sunset was perfect. The bed was so comfortable, the fireplace was wonderful and we enjoyed a restful sleep. Walking to Moss Beach Distillery for dinner was beautiful under the moonlight. Can't wait to go back! read more

I booked Seal Cove Inn for my partner and I as our last night of a 5 day road trip up the coast. It was in celebration of our 3 year anniversary. The prices here were much greater than other inns at Half Moon Bay, but I decided to splurge and hoped I wouldn't regret it. No regrets! This property was stunning. I felt like I was on the English countryside (and the gloomy weather added to that as well lol - 55 degrees in July ) We borrowed binoculars from the front desk and went searching for seals - pro tip, they didn't hang out in the cove while we were there, but further down the coast trail. There were about 50 each day we went! The tide pools were also a must see, but the bridge connecting the property to the pools is closed so I'd recommend just driving to the tide pools parking lot separately. And check the tide timings for low tide! The cypress grove was an obvious must see - we didn't get any cool pictures on account of the bad weather, but it was still a great way to start/end the day by taking a stroll. The room itself was pretty nice, but the SHEETS and mattress omg literally the most comfortable bed I've ever stayed in. The fireplace in the room was also top tier. We stayed in a room on the second level overlooking the garden which I would definitely recommend. The breakfast was fresh but just fine, a small recommendation would be better vegan options. They also have free coffee/tea available downstairs. All in all this was a fantastic stay! read more

My partner picked this spot and let me tell you, this was such a lovely inn to spend our weekend at. I love myself a nice bed & breakfast and this truly lived up to all my expectations. The customer service is exceptional and very personable. They have complimentary coffees, water, tea and soda. Around 5pm they have complimentary wine and beer. There's also breakfast in the AM--from their menu, you pick 3 food options plus drink options; their OJ is complimentary, but for $10 more, you get champagne for mimosas for 2, which we did; so tasty. The breakfast is either in their dining area or brought to your room, we chose the latter for their latest time at 930am. I had the egg frittata, warm muffin and croissant, and parfait with granola. Check out is at 11am and strict. We stayed in room #4 which had a fireplace. We love playing board games and of course part of our stay was going to include that. However, our room didn't have a table conducive to a board game and the public area was closed by 10pm so we had to resort to playing on the bed. Next time we would hopefully have a room with an extra table. The body soap and lotion provided smell amazing. I should have noted what the scent was but all I can think of is Eucalyptus. No AC in the room so we slept with our patio door open. The breeze was much needed. There's a beautiful trail to the side of the Inn that leads into the Cypress tree forest and the waterfront and it is stunning! I have never been into such a beautiful forest before omg Overall, an amazing stay and would hands down come back again. read more

If we had the ability to give 4.5-4.75, that is where this place would land. First and foremost, this is a place for adults only. The Inn is that of an English manner with only 10 rooms. The staff are so warm and inviting and it appears that it takes no effort at all to welcome all whom darken their doorway. They offer every guest with homemade chocolate chip cookies, at 5:00 pm, every night they offer the guests wine or beer, in the community sitting room. Every room has a fire place, if you are on the bottom floor you have a slider( that looks like French doors leading out to a small sitting area over looking the English garden, which are frequented by rabbits and quail. Breakfast is provided, and is served either to your room, or in the dining room. Oh, almost forgot, there is a butler's pantry that house's complimentary water and soda's. So you must be wondering why only 4.5. Well...if you are one that needs WiFi, that maybe a sticking point for you. The service is spotty, and you are often kicked off. Our room, also slept very warm. 73-74 degrees warm. We were given a fan, but still were unable to get the room to any cooler level. Getting back to the positive, the manner butts up to the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve. The loop trails are about 2 miles with stairs to the beach, a bluff over looking the Pacific Ocean, and tide pools to explore. It is also home for the Harbor Seals, which you can watch. The area is marked off, but you are still only 300 feet away. Again kid free. This is a must for anyone looking for a place to stay near Half Moon Bay. read more

We had a wonderful 35-year anniversary stay at Seal Cove Inn. The Inn isn't visible from the street. The long driveway is surrounded by trees on either side. When you reach the front of the Inn you feel as if you've arrived at a charming European Inn. Everything inside is beautiful, and we were warmly greeted by the host. A little over two weeks ago, I had checked into Seal Cove Inn for a few night's stay; a truly special place that hasn't left my thoughts since. I was apprehensive to leave a review here, knowing very well that I may leave quite an impact for prospective people looking for a place to lay their head for the night. I wanted to keep it a bit of a secret. But, I guess I'll share. This is a very mature hotel. It's not the Ritz-Carlton by any means, but it can be seen as better in several ways. Situated in a breathtaking cypress tree reserve, off the beaten-path of Highway 1; sits this modest and beautiful hotel. Oh, how wish there was a photo album I could've sat and read through the history of the place in the common room. My wife and I were far younger than the staff, and the people staying there. So we tried our absolute best as we could to keep our noise levels to a bare minimum, as we are night owls. We even went to the extremely convenient 24-hour Safeway down the street at 2am to grab a quick bite to eat. They have a nice sized continental breakfast, although I do wish it was just the classic American scrambled eggs and sausage. It was a croissant, muffin of the day, a bowl of fruits, and a egg souffle. There were other choices, you had 6 items to chose from, with a choice of 3 of the 6. Thinking back, I wonder if you could've doubled up on things, the eggs were good. They also have a very fancy coffee machine which introduced me to Ristretto (Espresso ain't got anything on that stuff, delicious!), hot cocoa (I am guilty of using 2 packs per cup), and a small refrigerator in the common area. That small refrigerator was always oddly restocked, quickly, magically. Like I said, we are night owls, and somehow the fridge was restocked with soda after grabbing one before heading to Safeway, noticing this after grabbing another once we got back. You'll understand if you stay here... They only kept 3 cans of each soda... That reminds me of the room amenities. You're given a small refrigerator* and a Keurig with a few selections of coffee. The hand soap, body wash, shampoo and conditioner are all the same scent. Slightly overbearing on the Lavender & Eucalyptus. Ironically, my wife uses Lavender & Eucalyptus Bath & Body Works body wash; however their version was quite a bit more concentrated. Just a thought, to bring your own stuff if that scent is not to your liking. I've stayed in a lot of hotels, but I have never seen a hotel with towel warmers for the guest to use, make sure you turn it on 15-20 minutes in advance if you want it to work well. The * on that refrigerator, is my only gripe with the room. It kicks on once an hour for a few seconds and is kind of loud, but maybe that was just our room in particular. It was a slight inconvenience, as it interrupted the serene sound of distant waves crashing and frogs going off in the nearby pond. The room we stayed in had a romantic fireplace that warmed the area really nicely. Paring it with the atmosphere and the coastal sea breeze... It was divine. This place had me feeling like I was visiting my grandparents for the weekend. It was less business like, and more... Home-felt? Is that even a good way to word it? It's a warm and cozy getaway that just feels like you're visiting a home away from home. You had this slight pressure to be as quiet as possible for the others. But that's not a bad thing, as I mentioned earlier; it's a very mature spot to stay. Respect it, please. As for the scenery? I'll leave that to the photos to do the talking, but I shall not show more than 1 of the beautiful reserve. All I can say is that... I'll be making my way back to Half Moon Bay this following week, as I have decided to move to the area. It's just that beautiful. If the band Keane wanted to visit the South Bay, I couldn't recommend a better place, for them to stay; Somewhere Only We know. If you watch that music video, it was literally a tune I couldn't stop humming as I walked the reserve. It's literally just like that, and more. Lastly, for those of you Tesla owners out there. This is one of the very few hotels in HMB with a charging port. However, there is only a single Wall Connector. You can easily make it to and from San Mateo, using about 7% of charge to get to the closest SC, and that's speeding like a madman if you have the chance to, on Highway 92. Inquire with the hotel if there's another Tesla owner currently staying. They have mentioned that they've had up to 3 staying simultaneously. However, if you're like me... I'm not used to playing musical cars, nor am I actively awake at normal hours, if it can be helped. I was lucky to be the only guest with a Tesla, and had it all to myself. It works like a charm, zero issues. Although, the bush could be trimmed just a smidge back. For those you who live in Southern California, I was able to leave Seal Cove Inn with 100% charge and get to the SC in Coalinga (Harris Ranch) going 85mph, arriving with 16%. read more

Our rooms were sparkling clean, spacious, had a fireplace, and very comfortable beds. Breakfast is as beautiful as it is delicious. There is coffee is the room and a self-serve coffee machine for espresso drinks , tea, cocoa and cookies by lobby. Although the place itself is not geared to having kids it was in a perfect location to keep them entertained and busy. The suite itself was so comfortable, clean and cozy. It was huge, had a fireplace, kitchen, comfortable bedding and a small nice enclosed patio that the kids enjoyed playing in. It definitely exceeded our expectations. We had a great experience this weekend, definitely picked the perfect apot for a little bday getaway celebration for Hubby! Sharon welcomed us at the front desk and made us feel at home, giving us all the run down of what we need to know about the place since this is our first time. The room was nicely decorated... everything was clean. We had a garden patio which was nice, even though we didn't get to sit outside because it was cold. The gas fireplace inside the room was an added treat which kept our room comfy. A great highlight of this place is the forest. Make sure you take a walk in the forest ... we did that the afternoon we got there and the next morning took a bike ride around the area. The cove is close to the Fotgerald Marine Reserve and a real treat during low tide when tide pools are exposed for exploration.... although the FMR was closed to the public at the time. There's a free breakfast that comes with your stay and we got to choose 3 items out of the 5 choices listed plus our beverage of choice. The granola was the yummiest we've ever tried ever! For what was served in the past, the new change in breakfast options are disappointing and lacking. In a short story, the breakfast served needs an over haul to keep us coming back. Driving up to this inn, I felt like I was driving to a house in Tuscany, Italy. When I got in, I waited for a few minutes to get checked in. They gave me cookies and showed me my room. They also took their time to tell me events and things I may be interested in visiting. I thought it was fun to see the tide hours for the day in the case guests wanted to head to the tide pools nearby. My room was on the bottom floor and had a sliding door to the backyard. There was also a little patio. It's the perfect place to have breakfast! The room was clean and made me feel so relaxed. I also appreciated the water bottles that were accessible to guests. As a person who often stay in bed and breakfasts, not many places offer water for their guests. I also was able to get a cookie more than once during my stay, which made this pregnant lady very happy. Another reason for you to stay here is the convenience of it being near Half Moon Bay, tide pools, beach access, and trails. I very much enjoyed being able to walk out and can do a morning walk on the trails. With the fog, it felt so peaceful and quiet. You do get what you paid for here. The service is fantastic. My only wish is that the breakfast be more adventurous especially for the price we pay for the room. Although the breakfast was delicious, it was simple. It didn't seem like they would offer breakfasts like corn hashed beef or orange scones. Their plating was pretty though. So, stay here for getting breakfast without the expectation of "fun" breakfast. You can ask for breakfast in the room or out in the dining hall. If you choose to do it in your room, they conveniently pick up your tray when you leave it outside your door when you're done. If you like having a set menu breakfast, this will be your place. You can also change your selection for the next day. I thought spending 2 nights here was the perfect amount of time. As soon as my partner and I arrived, I was in awe by how charming the inn was, and as soon as we walked in, I was in awe by how pretty the inside was and how friendly the people were! We were greeted with chocolate chip cookies and given advice on where to walk around to see the best views. Our room was spotless and so cozy! We also had sliding doors out to the garden. Unbeknownst to me, my partner had talked to the inn keeper before I had walked in about plans of proposing and he says she was so helpful and excited for us! After he proposed, she offered to put a bottle of Prosecco in our room (though we declined because we don't drink), so kind! Afterward we took pictures in the garden and it was perfect! This was an excellent culmination of a guessing game that we played for almost two weeks. I asked the usual Where/What questions and the occasional sneaky ones like: "what bridge are we taking?" or "what city did you say we're going to?" All I got were silly clues. The drive from San Jose wasn't bad at all. We left around 12 noon and got to the Inn on a good 45 minutes easy drive. The Inn was gorgeous. We were welcomed by the front desk and was showed around and given the 411 to the place. The whole deal took about 10-15 minutes. The living room was clearly a show piece of the Inn. Great Christmas tree and scattered comfortable pieces of chairs welcomes guests. It also opens up to the garden to the back of the Inn. The Room(Rote Rose): Beautiful room with a king size bed. Comfortable bed. Two comfortable chair sits in front of their fireplace. A glass of white wine came with the room in their mini ref. The double door that opens to the balcony that overlooks the garden was my favorite. We stood there and enjoyed the view. You can hear the crushing of waves from the balcony. If you enjoy the sound of the ocean at night leave the sliding door to the balcony open at night. That's what we did. Bathroom was clean. They do have a towel warmer! My favorite since I have one at home too. They offer their guests ample supply of movies to watch in their room. DVD's and VHS ones :) No tv. They also offer you free soda in the front desk. There's the tea time where they serve cheese and cookies and tea and coffee. They do have free wifi and free computer access on the second floor where we stayed. Hot water for tea and free coffee was abundant as well as water. There's books everywhere and you're welcome to read them. They also have board games and cards. We took this amazing walk to the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve after checking in. It was the most amazing walk. The beginning of the walk from the gate was just a start. The path was lined with tree mulch. It was such a contrast to the rest of the environment that it enriched the first steps we took right then. The walk was leisurely with very excellent directions written on a piece of paper given to us by the front desk. The view was breath taking. It was pure nature at it's best. The trees lined up to your right and the ocean to your left beckoning your attention. When we reached the reserve a bunch of seals welcomed us. I got so immersed in the sea life around me that I bet I would've stayed there just because. The walk back was a different route surprisingly very thoughtful. It was about a 10 minute walk-really short and that will take you back to the Inn. The whole experience was amazing and magical. The following day breakfast was served in bed per our request. Great quiche. Freshly baked croissant and sweet bread. O.J and milk with three big slices of water mellon and honey dew. Overall the stay appeared short to us. A three night stay is probably the right amount to feel that you've soaked in the beauty of this place. Will definitely come back and refer family and friends to the best inn ever! A little suggestion: Please provide a working flashlight in the room. We were going to take a 10 pm walk to the beach but wasn't able to. Flashlight was dead and front desk was closed. read more

Our stay was definitely worth a 5 star review. We stayed here for 3 nights, and I cannot say enough about the service. Stacy, Mary, and Sharon were so amazing to us, and helped this feel like our new home away from home. We will definitely be back. Breakfast was perfect, light and delivered right on time. As this is not a huge hotel we had no expectation for there to be a restaurant on the first floor serving pancakes and omelets, and we were pleasantly surprised to learn that many parts of the continental breakfast were made in house. The chocolate chip cookies were a hit as well, and the champagne for the mimosas was wonderful. There are also countless restaurants nearby, so we felt like we had plenty of options. Thank you Mary for the amazing service, chocolate chip cookies, we LOVE you! The view was great, if anyone has the wherewithal to look on a map, it is clear that this is not a beach front stay, however the beach is not far at all and you can still see the ocean from the balcony. The grounds are gorgeous, and you have private access to a trail that takes you to the beach (closed due to COVID) a place to view the seals (cuties, stood watching for hours) and a beautiful loop through a breathtaking cypress grove. The bed was comfortable, they gave us a fan for the room since neither of us can sleep without one. The bathroom was AMAZING, best hotel shower I've ever had and an amazing tub that fit my partner and I very comfortably. 2 sinks, we're both divas so that was helpful. Fireplace, desk (we worked a bit from the room) and Comcast on the TV. Lastly, and MOST importantly, the service was amazing. Stacy welcomed us with open arms, kindness, and genuine warmth. She helped us with finding places to eat, took care of us the day we watched a Zoom wedding for a close family member (even delivered something special to the room, thank you Mary again as well, love ya!) The whole team made us feel like we were at a bed and breakfast. I wouldn't normally hop on here before I've even left the hotel, but these women made our weekend memorable, and we will be coming here on an annual basis. We booked the two bedroom suite for one night, finding the location was a little bit of a challenge, especially at night with little to no lighting. When we arrived to the room, everything was nice and neat from a far distance, however, there were smaller areas that probably needed a touchup. The continental breakfast was delicious, very typical to the European foods that I enjoy regularly. There was a small mold issue in the shower however, the hotel staff were very prompt in addressing it. We made the hotel suite, nice and cozy with the fireplace and the heater and had a great night. We went on a small hike with family in the morning. Great location. Definitely recommend. read more

We stayed here in November for our anniversary. We could see the ocean from our room balcony and listened to the sounds of the ocean. Our room was well appointed and the resort was just so warm, welcoming and relaxing. We strolled the gardens, walked a nice path to see the ocean and watched the sunset. The check in was flawless the staff were so nice and everything was clean and decor was nice. We had a wine reception; being from Napa I would only comment that the wines weren't the nicest I have ever had and none of what I saw listed online were were what were offered. I would very easily recommend this as a place to anyone I know to get away. read more

Meh..... disappointed.... we stayed in the Deluxe Balcony Room upstairs. I should've done my homework and read the reviews beforehand but booked last minute & wanted to escape the heat for the day. Here's a list of things I would expect for $450.00 a night. Bearing in mind these are NOT INCLUDED... There is NO cooked breakfast, they provide a continental breakfast ( the kind you get at a hotel by Disneyland). There is NO fridge or coffee maker in your room.... I had to run downstairs praying I wouldn't run into anyone with my robe on & bed head to get my morning coffee. BTW the "espresso bar" is just an oversized Nespresso. The evening glass of wine & nuts were pleasant but just one glass per guest, you can PURCHASE additional at a bit of a inflated retail price, I will post a picture of the prices. There was not even a shower cap in the bathroom, thank goodness I had brought my own and no little take home shower/conditioner etc. in the bathroom but you can PURCHASE some of there "spa inspired bath products" .... again, at a retail price. Here are some of the reasons I was disappointed.... 1. they omit the fact they are in the flight path of the local airport, wasn't so peaceful sitting in the garden. 2. There is no ocean view or view of the seal cove, the pictures on the website are very misleading. 3. There is a noisy public trail next to the inn. Kids running and screeching.... again, not so peaceful. 4. There is more highway noise than crashing waves. 5. The garden was dead and sadly neglected. (I will post a picture) On a positive note...Stacy was very welcoming and allowed us to park in the parking lot prior to check in time so we could go down to the beach. She also offered us water and use of the restroom which was greatly appreciated. The room was clean and tidy and the bed was comfortable. The wine & nuts in the evening are pleasant. The bath products smell devine!! The chairs on the balcony are comfortable....and we did get to see one of the bunnies in the garden this mornings. The local photographer canvas pictures were lovely. A unique and cozy location. My husband and I stayed for 3 nights the room was spacious, clean, large balcony, very romantic. You can hear the ocean from your room, the grounds are beautiful short walk to the beach. The sunsets were incredible. Highly recommend it. read more

We stayed here for one night in august and the experience was very pleasant, relaxing and memorable. The hotel is within walking distance of my favorite cypress tree tunnels in Moss Beach, which we explored prior to check in. Moss Beach distillery, one of my favorite restaurants, is only a 7 min walk away. Checking in itself was a breeze. I enjoyed the wine served during their happy hour. The in room breakfast was delicious. this my new staycation destination. read more
