The Maverick room is SO good! Great location- easy to get to, easy parking and quiet and right on the bay. I would stay here again in a heartbeat! The room seemed newly renovated. Clean floors, big bathroom, huge indoor space. The outdoor patio was perfect for our small doggies. The views and quiet were immediate stress-reducers. This room is the ground floor end unit and has a large field to the right so it feels very private. Within walking distance to Jetty wave distillery that is a cute outdoor space if you have dogs. It was fine to stop in for a drink and a bite or a small plate. Walking distance to Barbara's fish trap and all the marina restaurants. Close to the paved walking path that will take you down hwy1 through more gorgeous views and access to the beach. The location really can be beat! I highly recommend, especially if traveling with dogs. Note: The Jetty room (other ground floor end unit) shares an outdoor fence between the common area and fire pit. read more

Perfect place to stay while enjoying everything Princeton by the Sea has to offer. Well appointed spacious room and bathroom, super comfy bed, it felt very luxurious. Everything smelled really clean and fresh. The ocean view is so beautiful! Robes in the closet, snacks, coffee, hot cocoa and bottled water at the little kitchenette. The Inn at Mavericks was very clean, and luxurious. I was very happy with my experience there. My boyfriend and I had a great time staying in the Mavericks room downstairs. The room smelled good and clean. There was a small basket of snacks, plenty of clean towels which they replaced every day. There was a small and clean Keurig with K-cups too and hot cocoa packets. They gave us more K-cups when we asked. The small town of Princeton by the Sea is very pleasant and enjoyable, lots of nearby restaurants. There was some noise at night from people out drinking, they were singing late at night in the street. read more

This is a gorgeous little inn over looking Princeton by the sea. We chose this location because of its view and it's dog friendly. We have two little Boston babies who like to vacation too. The room was very comfortable. Housekeeping does a great job, it's nice and clean. So why 3 stars? The fire pit. Right next door to our room, The Jetty Suite is a fire pit and guess what? It draws a crowd. People can peer right into your little piece of heaven. We were sitting in our "yard" having a cocktail getting ready to watch the sunset. The puppies had just settled down and here comes a group of people with a guitar gearing up for sing-a-long. Dogs started barking as I scurry around in my PJ's. On top of it we had had a really long day, we were tired and I was having one of my world famous migraines. I just wanted peace and quite. At almost $400 bucks a night, that's a reasonable request. There is not a lot of privacy between the fire pit area and the room's yard area. It didn't help that "singer boy" and his guest peeked over the fence to see what we were doing. And I don't necessarily mind sing-along's. It's just they were right on top of our space. We were able to drown out them out by turning up the TV. Not ideal. If I had known that there was a fire pit next to the room I would never have booked it. My antenna did go up when I saw earplugs by the bedside table. Silly me thought it was for foghorns and boats ;) Update! The manager Connie did reach out to us and said they have never had this problem before. She did invite us back and said that we should book a room that's not next to the fire pit. We may do that. read more

The family and I spent two nights at the Inn at Mavericks. The inn is located on Pillar Point Harbor in the tiny hamlet of Princeton-on-the-Sea. Technically within the confines of Half Moon Bay. The Inn at Mavericks consists of six well appointed suites. The suites on the lower level are dog friendly and have a large patio area with a small amount of grass. We stayed in the Flat Rock suite. It had a king size bed and a futon. Which is where our daughter slept. There is also a small kitchen type area that had a Kerug coffee maker and a countertop ice maker that can in handy for making cocktails. The bathroom was really large. The best part was the shower. So spacious and the water pressure was perfect. I wish I had one like it at home. Daily housekeeping is offered at no extra charge which is nice. Check-in is contactless. Your key and a welcome letter are in an envelope in a mailbox in front of the "office". There is a communal fire pit if you want to sit outside and take in the incredible view with the warmth of a fire. The best feature of the Inn at Mavericks is it is within walking distance to numerous restaurants. There is a brewery across the street that is only open Thursday to Sunday. A distillery around the corner that is open Thursday to Sunday as well. Barbara's Fish Trap, Old Princeton Landing, Half Moon Bay Brewing Company and Mezza Luna are all within a five to ten minute walk. read more

We spent the weekend in the Mavericks Suite and had a fabulous time!! The outdoor area and views were spectacular. The furnishings inside the suite were adequate, nothing to write home about, but the mattress was very comfy which is so important. The bathroom was very nice and the size of the suite was nice too. Great location, you can walk everywhere. We already made reservations to come back, so I would definitely recommend if visiting in the area especially if you want to bring your dog. So this place is a Hidden Gem off the beaten path but so close to everything. Looks are deceiving when you walk up. Or even trying to find someone in the office. We walked up to find no one in the office. We did locate one of the maids who gave us our key with the welcome letter explaining everything. So we walked up stairs to our room. We opened the door and to our surprise the room was absolutely amazing. Plus it had a Killer view of the harbor and city. The room we checked into had a very large tub which my wife loves to enjoy a hot bath. The bed is comfortable. Oh did I mention it had a fireplace too. You can also walk down to the beach during low tide. We did do some clam digging one day with limited tools to do it. But we did get a few. The locals were absolutely tearing them up. One of the days this Asian guy got his limit of ten in less then one hour. The other two days the locals were getting their limits too in about 1-1-1/2 hours. So in closing I would highly recommend this hotel even if it does not feel like one. Their are only six rooms so it is very private too. We will be returning in the future. read more

We really enjoyed staying here. First time traveling with our 6lb Chorkie, he seemed right at home. The view from our patio were phenomenal. The room had binoculars and it was great to look out at wildlife. We stayed at the The Flat Rock room. The room was spacious and the bathroom was a great size as well. The fog horn is a bit annoying but it didn't not bother our sleep. We welcomed and enjoyed the sea lions barking. The Inn is within walking distance to a small mall, restaurants, bars and Pillar Point Harbor. Many other beaches near as well. We took advantage of the extra add on for wine and chocolates. It was a great treat for my husband and I, the wine that is and the chocolate for our kids. The Inn also had a small basket of complimentary treats and a couple water bottles. The only gripe I have is that the pull down sitting sofa that is intended for extra sleeping is not for two people. My two teenage boys did not fit comfortably. It should only be intended for one person (under 5'2" feet) or two very small children (age 6 & below). Note, because of the pandemic no ice is offered. Hope to visit again. read more

My husband and I stayed here on our wedding night due to an issue with our reservation at a high-end hotel. We were pleasantly surprised at the size of the room, patio and how close we were to the water. We could hear the seals barking and fog horn doing its thing all night and during the morning which was awesome. If you're a light sleeper they provide ear plugs which my husband used and I didn't, we both slept fine. Clean room, friendly innkeeper, can't beat the views. Especially in the morning when the sun is making its appearance. We would stay here again for sure. read more

My husband and I stayed here on our mini-moon in 2017 and have stayed here for our anniversary every year since. I was expecting them to be closed this year because of COVID, but they were able to be open ( which is such a huge blessing to us! Because who doesn't deserve a brief reprieve from the chaos of this year?) We live in the Bay area, but love to come here because it feels like a totally different world without actually having to deal with the headache that can be travel. The service is beyond compare, and the bottom three floors can accommodate dogs ( which is a huge bonus for us!). There is also a big tub, fireplace, mini-fridge, and microwave! ( Everything you need for a sort-of-shelter-in-place anniversary!) I should mention, we stay in the same room every time, the Maverick, so I can't speak for the other 5 rooms, but I imagine they are equally awesome. There are good food places nearby (that offer take-out) and the views are perfect. If you are looking for a simple place, with great service, great views, and great food, then this is the place for you. There are also quite a few excursion places nearby ( charter boats, kayaking, etc. - which I admit, we haven't tried yet). There is a spa nearby that I would normally treat myself to a massage at, that also has very good service. P.s. they also supplied us with our own bottle of sanitizing spray (which, again, is helpful in a COVID world.) In short, this place is a wonderful place to escape from the chaos of today, and we will of course be returning every chance we can. read more

Well, high marks for harbor views - the balcony had some of the best I've ever seen. And, it was easy walking distance to a number of good restaurants and beaches. The room was size-able and quite attractive and the oversize soaking tub was most welcome. Our upstairs room (The Dunes) had windows on 3 sides, which were truly a boon as we stayed there during a very rare heatwave*. No airconditioning, but opening all the windows and doors gave a lovely cross breeze. We enjoyed the "atmospheric" sounds of the fog horn and steady parade of single engine airplanes (right overhead) for the first couple hours. But, as the evening wore on, it got quite old. So, yes, noisy; especially when the dog-friendly rooms downstairs lead to a barking fest. The other draw back was the lack of service. A very bare coffee-snack tray was not well stocked, even tho I tipped extra and asked for more than 2 coffee pods. There was no one on site outside of a housekeeping lady for a few hours a day. The phone number for service was an unattended message machine. Yet, it was sort of exciting to witness a major lightening storm from the balcony in the middle of the night (remember CZU August Lightening ?). But the wind and pressure changes led to quite a scramble and fight to get the windows closed. The trap door to the attic flapped like mad until we got buttoned up. And, some how, that caused the smoke alarm to beep every minute for the rest of the night. Added to the fog horns and disturbed barking of the harbor seals, it was not conducive to sleep. Note: we did discover two sets of earplugs in the rooms after the 1st night. In someways, I would not have wanted to miss the cute parade of planes overhead, nor the rare chance to see a storm. But there was no one to respond to the malfunctioning alarm and the noise factor got me down. read more

Last month I stayed at the Inn at Mavericks while I was in town visiting family. Upon arriving I was taken aback at just how gorgeous the view is here (photos cannot accurately capture the beauty). There really is no suite without a great view! They provide binoculars in each suite so guests can take in all the wonder . . . what a nice touch. The 'noises' other Yelpers have mentioned did NOT bother me. The bellowing noises of the frolicking sea lions add to the charm, in my opinion. Yes, the fog horn can be annoying. Unless you are a light sleeper, this should not be an issue (they do provide complimentary earplugs). Sadly, I CANNOT give Inn at Mavericks a 4 or 5 star review because they seem to have issues with guest privacy and security . . . I stayed here during the COVID pandemic (in Sept. 2020). In my suite there was a laminated placard (see photo) stating: "During your visit to the Inn at Mavericks housekeeping will not enter your room unless requested". Imagine my surprise the next morning when one of their employees opened the door to my suite without knocking. Also, I was in the middle of getting dressed when she opened the door. And, no, I had not put in a request for housekeeping, so there was absolutely no reason for their employee to open my door. It is worth noting this incident could have easily been avoided if: 1) Inn at Mavericks followed their own policy and protocols 2) the employee would have simply knocked before opening my suite's door 3) the suite doors had flip-locks at top (they do NOT: see my photo) After this breach occurred, I sent the Inn at Mavericks an e-mail stating what happened. Melissa Rey promptly apologized and acknowledged that nobody should have been entering my suite. However, I was never given an explanation of why the incident happened in the first place. read more

This place is like heaven on earth. I have never been to such a wonderful hotel in my life. It is so serene and peaceful I could sit on the deck and stare out at the ocean forever. The bed is soft and comfortable the robes are wonderful and the soaking tub for two is a nice touch. The room is just the absolute perfect size fortwo. The Inn is located right on the water, so walks on the beach are easy. It's also within a short walk of most of downtown, making access to restaurants easy too. We stayed in "The Dunes" room, which is on the second floor and has a great view of the entire bay. It also has a gas fireplace, which was a nice touch. This was our second visit and again had a wonderful time. We always bring our dogs with us and this time we were bringing Bella our 12 year old so she could have one last beach time but unfortunately she passed away the day before we were coming I cried when I arrived and told Melissa (the Innkeeper), she expressed her sympathy and went above and beyond in refunding us the dog fee and a lovely box of candies (this touched our hearts so much as we were not going to ask). We will definitively be coming again with our other dog Jax who had so much fun on the beach and the patio looking out at the seals. This little inn was a great find! It's about five minutes from the town of Half Moon Bay and the location is great. There are several good restaurants within walking distance and many beaches and restaurants within a short drive of five or ten minutes. We had the Flat Rock room on the first floor. The six-room inn is on a small bluff, very close to the water, and our view of the bay was gorgeous. The first floor rooms are dog-friendly and have little fenced-in yards facing the bay with patios and a little grass. Landscaping on two sides provides privacy. It was heavenly on the patio! The second floor rooms appear to have fairly good-sized balconies. The room itself was lovely with many thoughtful amenities. The bathroom was particularly beautiful and luxurious. We thought the price for all this was extremely reasonable. I did not see anyplace in the area I'd rather stay. Reservations and housekeeping were great. Highly recommend! read more

Impromptu mini getaway... such a great spot! This was our First visit to the Inn. Had a lovely greeting package with a welcome letter and snacks. We chose the Ross Cove... beautiful room on the second floor with unobstructed views from the balcony and wonderful sounds of the fog horn and seals in the distance we had a very tasty dinner @ Half moon bay brewery. Picked up tiramisu from Cafe Mezza and then went for a night cap at the old Princeton landing. All within walking distance of the Inn. After soaking in the large tub we slept comfortablely the doors open even put on a little ambience with a fire. ..it was a perfect night with beautiful weather. I Woke up to watch the sunrise from bed. Great little spot off the bay... just beautiful I love that the Inn is secluded and only has 6 units. We will be returning soon! read more

We have had the most wonderful stay at the Inn at Mavericks. I booked this trip a year ago because they sell out their dog-friendly rooms the moment the become available (and I've already booked for 2022 haha). We have had such a great time, I tried the extend the trip another day but they're sold out of rooms :( This js probably the most pleasant hotel stay I've ever had. The room is peaceful and quiet, it has every amenity you could ever want: -large mini fridge with freezer compartment -nice new microwave -free snack baskets daily Ironing board, iron, hair dryer -silverware, plates, cork screw, cutting board, keurig with coffee and tea pods, cream and sugar -every drinking vessel you'd ever need (martini glasses, champagne flutes, etc., all wrapped in plastic -plenty of storage space -huge bathroom with huge floor to ceiling mirror -tub large enough for 2 -comfy beds with clean white sheets -on-site super friendly housekeeping staff -the absolute gem though is the private fenced yard that comes with the three pet friendly rooms. It's an absolute oasis and has made our stay so wonderfully stress-free. No big trips to take them potty, just open the sliding glass door and go back to bed! I'm laying in a lounge chair as I type this, birds tweeting, watching and hearing the ocean, seeing people kayaking, paddle boarding, etc. it's just spectacular. I wish I could just move in and never ever leave. This is a slice of heaven. But please don't come here because it's already hard enough to get a room. I don't think you'd like it... read more

I'm sitting in my room at The Inn Maverick waiting for my daughter to wake up. The reason being, she didn't sleep too well last night due to the extremely annoying fog horn!! It's now stopped, so she's catching up on lost sleep. When we went to sleep last night, we noted that there were ear plugs on our night stand. Huh?? What for??? It wouldn't be long until we found out! It goes off every 10 seconds and didn't stop until 7:30 am. The room does not have A/C. You would normally open the door to offer up a cool breeze, NOT. Needless to say she woke up very crabby? Perhaps the Inn should invest in double pane glass. Other than that, it's a nice place with an incredible view. read more

My husband and I love HMB so image my surprise when a last minute check of the Inn at the Mavericks became available! Being this was my husband's bday weekend we quickly booked. Just a side note, a little difficult to actually speak to someone but don't be alarmed a confirmation email and a check in and out time we're provided before we arrived. We loved the close proximity to our new favorite place The Jetty Wave ( a must to try) and Meza Luna, Barb's ( our personal fav best seafood ever) and hmb brewery. Walking to our locations was a quick jaunt as we invited several friends to meet us , they parked and didn't need their cars for the rest of the evening. The Inn at Mavericks was cute, a little outdated and the bed linens really could have used a better cleaning, bathroom was clean and big. Our guests liked the in room ice machine! But we pd. for that gorgeous view and the deck, firepit down stairs cute and cozy. Must love the serenade of sea lions and the fog horn to lull you to sleep, if not ear plugs are provided. In conclusion, we all had a glorious weekend with our besties in our favorite coastal getaway!! read more

What a lovely place!! This inn is the perfect place for a weekend getaway. Once we arrived, we found an envelope addressed to me with a letter telling us which room was ours. There are only six rooms here, and we got lucky number 5, Ross' Cove (all of the rooms are named after famous surf spots in the area), which is located upstairs. We had gotten the anniversary special, so upon entering our room, a bottle of champagne and a gift card to HMB Brewing Company was waiting for us. So sweet! The room is beautiful, and super cozy! They did a remodel of the place recently, and all of the amenities are updated. Next to the gas fireplace, there's a plasma TV on the wall, and there's free wi-fi and an iPod docking station, and we discovered the DVD player and microwave inside the cabinet next to the fridge. The bathroom is very elegant and spacious, with a soaking tub and rain showerhead, and Crabtree & Evelyn bath products. I love the super cush king sized Tempurpedic bed, and that there's two fleece blankets in case you want to cuddle up on the deck with a cup of hot cocoa. The deck that overlooks the ocean! Yes, this is a super quaint oceanfront property conveniently located near Harbor Village, just around the corner from the fabulous Italian restaurant Mezzaluna. Next time, it would be fun to get 5 other couples in on this place and rent all of the rooms out. The bottom floor rooms all have a cute little patio with lawns. You could do a mini BBQ! Oh, one more thing. There is a fog horn that goes off every 10 seconds, which you can hear faintly in the background with the patio door closed. This might irritate some people, but it's actually pretty soothing because it's so rhythmic. Plus it reminds you that you're right on the ocean! read more

I retract EVERYTHING I said about this place; the great location, view and great rooms-it all doesn't matter after our horrible experience today. This is very unfortunate as I really do [did] love this place. Today is our 5th year anniversary and the plan was to stay at Mavericks with our 2 dogs and enjoy everything we loved about Half Moon Bay and this boutique hotel. Well, ya know what? We're back home, and instead of having a nice evening, I'm writing this review. I booked reservations last month, received a confirmation number and email-anniversary weekend was set. We arrived today after driving an hour with our 2 dogs only to find out that they canceled our reservation in the system because they overbooked, without notifying us beforehand. That isn't even the great part-we were standing outside the office for 30 minutes to figure out what to do because no one was at the office to help us. I had to call the hotel line and emergency line numerous times to figure what the hell to do! The only help they were able to offer was put us in a room that was already booked by a guest and move his stuff out for the night because he wasn't staying there tonight. The point, however, was to stay in a first floor room with a backyard because of our dogs. Not to mention, the next hour was spent calling around Half Moon Bay and even Monterey for pet friendly places with vacancy for a night. No luck. Happy Anniversary, honey. We came to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary and get away from it all (kids, work etc.) Thankfully Grandma and Grandpa were able to watch the DD's. We did a lot of research and it gets quite confusing to find a place for one night on a weekend. The reviews here seemed solid and we decided to take a risk on the foghorn. From the second we walked in our room it smelled amazingly clean. The view of the ocean was amazing. Those that followed our recent bedbug motel story will be happy to know that I did a thorough check and there were no sign here :) The bed was super comfortable and the bathroom was very luxurious. Love the soaking tub :) Nice to have the snack basket and keurig cofeemaker in the room plus the fridge and glasses/plates etc. As far as the foghorn goes it was fairly loud with the slider open, but with it closed it was very faint. If you are sensitive, bring earplugs, but otherwise you should be fine. We can't wait to return! read more

I was very hesitant to book a room here based on the reviews of people bashing this place due to the fog horn, BUT I was so surprised because it wasn't even that bad. I was expecting this loud thing, but it wasn't. I actually laughed when I heard it, because it wasn't even that loud. I'm a light sleeper and it was actually very soothing. This inn is isolated from the rest of the port which makes it very intimate, plus you get your own balcony. We had the corner upstairs room and it was huge! In my opinion it was the best situated room, didn't hear any of our neighbors. The view from the room was no joke. It was gorgeous, we walked to Barbara's fish trap to get some dinner to go, opened a bottle of wine and just enjoyed the sunset from the balcony! I loved there was a fireplace in the room, easy to use too. There's a flat screen tv but didn't even use it because the atmosphere was enough. Bathroom was huge with great interior. We didn't find out till later but the mini bar has all sorts of wine glasses in the top cabinet. Also came with free water and snacks I'm from Milpitas and this was a great staycation. definitely will be back read more

We came in town this past Saturday night to re-energize and change the scenery. We found this place through Yelp, and we were hoping for a pleasant stay. We stayed in Room #4, the Montara. It is in the upstairs west corner of the building. Once inside the immediate impression was "WOW!" The room was spacious, very clean, well decorated and had amazing views of Half Moon Bay out of all windows. The room has to have been renovated in the past couple years. The bathroom was also very large and well appointed. There was tile throughout the entire room. The bar has a refrigerator, Kuerig single pod coffee maker, VCR/DVD, microwave and a bucket full of complimentary snacks and water. They have a nice couch, dining table and iHome inside as well. The cornerstone of the room is the cozy, natural gas fireplace with nice flatscreen TV hanging by it. You can lay on the California Tempurpedic King and see everything. The room opens up out back to a nice sized balcony overlooking HMB. This is right on the beach. One of the most memorable experiences here will be the fog horns that blow every 10 seconds or so. Nothing like the sound of waves crashing, seagulls, boats and the fog horn. It was so tranquil and relaxing. The grounds are so peaceful. With only six rooms onsite you feel like you have the place to yourself. They have a community fire-pit just outside the east portion of the building that overlooks HMB as well. The bottom floor rooms have great "back yards" that each have white picket fences to allow for dogs to roam safely. There was an event center on property. There was also a workout facility across the street with complimentary access. The Half Moon Bay Brewery, as well as other great shops and restaurants are hundreds of feet away and all within walking distance. There honestly was a half moon over half moon bay when we stayed! Overall this place will be a long lasting memorable experience. I wish I would have stayed a week here! read more

I was very pleased with my experience with the Inn at Mavericks. I had reservations for last month and need to reschedule my reservations due to an emergency. Allen, the innkeeper was very accessible and accommodating. This place was worth the wait. My boyfriend and I stayed in "The Dunes" room. All though we only live and hour and a half away, this placed screamed vacation. The view from the balcony is amazing. I felt like we were in Europe with a view of the sea. The room was so romantic. The fireplace was a very nice touch. We were in walking distance of the restaurants, and had lunch with a gift card we got at Half Moon Bay Brewing Co. Our entire experience was the perfect getaway. My only complaint is we couldn't stay longer. read more
