"Up a lazy river by the old mill stream" (Louie Armstrong) The first meal of our trip to Canada. Almost didn't happen. We had a layover in Toronto which conveniently coincided with lunchtime, and after milling around the airport, we decided to have lunch in the Mill Street Brewery. The unsmiling hostess that greeted us (and I use that term loosely) rather coldly said "we have no tables, you'll have to wait". Now when we looked over her shoulder, we saw a ton of seats at the counter, so we asked if we could sit there. Of course we could. Anyway, things turned around for the better once we scooped up two counter seats. Our server Visnja was great, with a super personality and a big smile. We ordered a chicken tender plate and a Montreal Special sandwich. Both were $20 CAD. The chicken plate had 4 tenders, fries, and was served with two sauces - sweet and sour and barbecue. My Montreal Special sandwich had "Montreal Smoked Meat" -the Canadian equivalent of Corned Beef. It was super lean and was served with cole slaw and fries, and a pickle. It was outstanding. I also ordered a Diet Coke which was a rather high $3.99 CAD. Our total was $49.71 CAD after tax and before tip.

Quick stop during transit at Toronto Airport. Very busy so don't get upset if you wait for a while. Our chicken tender with side Poutine was pretty good. Beers though... it is Canadian beer, so don't get fooled when you order Pale Ale and looks and tastes like American Red Ale

Stopped here for a drink between flights. The bartender was awesome, very personable. It's a good bar if you want to socialize, but not alienating if you don't. I had the Cobblestone Organic Stout. $13 is a lot for a pint; I was a little surprised even considering it's an airport. The stout was nothing special, but a legit beer nonetheless - I wouldn't be expecting anything super adventurous in an airport. I got a free sample of their Blue Wave beer which was also pretty good if you're into pale ales. Strong flavour. They were busy, but based on what I saw from others around me who were ordering food, the kitchen was pretty on top of it.

So thought I'd try this place since sandwich board said beer and burger. Well they don't have a beer and burger special. They have like 10 taps for beer but only like 4 are in use. It was 13 for a beer in a plastic cup(bad even by airport standards). Bartender was apathetic and not very friendly. Very small menu. I had a beer and a shot and it was 27 out the door. Just a sad place I do not recommend

This place was the only appealing one in the airport and we were very hungry. The only reason I wanted to try this place was to eat some Canadian poutine! Our waitress was very friendly and met our accommodations, such as refilling water & coffee and would check up to see how we're doing here and there. FOOD: I ordered the Breakfast Poutine. Not the best I've tried in Canada, but it was good to fill in the craving. I don't think it was worth the price, but the portion size was filling. Coffee seemed water down to me.. so that was pretty upsetting. Not the best breakfast food there is, but it seemed like it was the better option in the airport. Would I come here again? Nah.

Monday was a good day for a burger! After a delayed flight out of CLT I missed my connection in Toronto. Air Canada decided to book me on the next available flight, which wasn't until 6pm = time for a late lunch! Since I was already on this end of the airport and I am familiar will their beers, I selected Mill Street Brewery. Selected their Organic Lager on draft (cold and delicious), then based on the recommendation from my bartender I went with their Angus Burger. I was not disappointed, definitely not a frozen patty. Cooked to perfection (at least in my eyes), full of flavor and super juicy. The burger was served with a side of fries and as I've previously stated, when in Canada you get a side of brown gravy for dipping- don't knock it until you've tried it! They also have plenty of room at the bar along with charging stations (score!). Chatted with a couple, also in between flights, who were heading back home to Saskatchewan. Great food, service and atmosphere! Will be back!

I wouldn't go as far as calling it a dump but it's poor standards accompanied by bad attitudes will guarantee I will add this establishment to my avoid-at-all-costs list. I ordered one IPA after a short reasonable wait but never got around ordering anything to eat as I was pressed for time and the bartender seemed to be on a part-time snooze and between naps he was slamming any items that came within his orbit. I did manage eventually to get his attention to pay for my one tasty beverage and moved onward to catch my wings home. Not impressed sister Mill St brewery.

Pretty good fare in an airport. Didn't really know anything about this place, was just craving a beer and some decent food and stumbled on this place. They brew their own beer on site so that sold it for us. Service was quick and attentive. Even though the World Series was going on, every TV had hockey on (as expected). West coast style IPA (3): Saw this on draft so I tried that. Since I'm from the west coast, their version was quite underwhelming. I'd say it was more of a hoppy Hefeweizen than an IPA. Was medium bodied. Color was cloudy and had a nice fruit palate to it. Not hoppy like a west coast IPA though. I think if they named it differently it would have set the expectations a little better. Oktoberfest (4): One of their seasonal offerings. That one was decent with some really nice malt to it. I think I'd stick to the malty beers here. Fish n Chips (4): came out as one nice large chunk of fish. Lightly battered and flavorful. Fries came with gravy which was awesome and poutine-like. Spicy Chorizo Pot Pie (5): I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Not too spicy but just enough kick to keep you interested. The pastry top was crispy and buttery. The filling just had an amazing sausage flavor to it. Even the salad was a nice complement to the dish which had my favorite balsamic vinaigrette dressing. After a day of traveling and walking all over the place, this 'airport food' was a nice treat before our next leg of our journey.

Officially my favourite pit stop for breakfast (so far) at Toronto Pearson Airport! #YYZ If you're departing from Terminal 1, you'll find it just around the corner as you enter the D gates. Not too crowded in the morning, you can comfortably sit at the bar or in the dining area. Service is friendly and quick, plates are served in generous portions and cooked well! There's a couple more breakfast dishes I'd like to try on their menu, can't wait for another morning flight!

It's alright... If you want to sit down to have a beer and an average meal to kill some time before your flight then this place serves its purpose. It seems as though you can't really expect much more from most airport food which is unfortunate. The options in this terminal are limited. I would honestly prefer A&W to any other restaurants in the concourse but not too many complaints for Mill Street. Average food at an increased price typical to the majority of airport establishments. I've had Mill Street in the Distillery District of Toronto and on 17th Ave in Calgary. Both of those instances proved to be much better than the several times I've had it at Pearson. *Visited Mar/19

    Chicken & Chorizo Pot Pie

Before our flight, we had lunch inside the Pearson Airport in Terminal 1 at Mill St. Brewery. It was a surprise to me that this location of the brewery restaurant has been in the airport since 2012! That's over six years ago and I never knew it existed. It was a nice place to grab food and a quick beer before a flight. We got a seat immediately inside the dimly lit pub and restaurant where there were also many other customers dining in. (They have a take-out counter outside of the restaurant too if you want to order to-go, like eat some wings on the plane or something.) I was quite impressed with the number and variety of items that they had on their menu! There was everything from common breakfast to burgers to classic pub food selections to Asian fusion dishes too. I was feeling up for something carb-y like comfort food. Unfortunately, the baked mac and cheese dish that I wanted to order was sold out already. Thus, I ordered the chicken and chorizo pot pie instead. K ordered the chicken wings in jerk sauce. The Chicken & Chorizo Pot Pie was pretty good. The pastry skin was so buttery and nicely crispy. It was especially delicious when dunked into the soup. The steaming hot soup contained lots of vegetables, two chorizo pieces, and a few pieces of moist chicken breast. It was a tad heat-y but not spicy at all. The garden salad with the vinaigrette was so good and its acidity complemented the saucy pot pie perfectly. I thought that the Chicken Wings tasted more like Korean style sauce than jerk BBQ sauce. It definitely wasn't jerk sauce to me. Maybe they gave us the wrong sauce? (Korean sauce was indeed a choice for the wings.) It was a lovely meal before our flight!

Breakfast poutine. Really good. Not a huge fan of the maple bacon. But really good regardless

We have the cauliflower bites to start as an appie. They were very good. My main was the chicken fingers & fries. The fingers appeared to be the cheap ones out of the box!? I'm not sure how restaurants think this is ok & charge $17.00 for them! And despite my request for well done fries...they weren't! To top it off...the food wasn't as hot as it should have been. On the upside, our server Simone was very nice, however. I've observed that lately restaurants aren't serving the ketchup in the bottles as before. Now you're limited to little cups of ketchup. I don't know about you but I'm NOT a fan! This place was too mediocre to warrant a higher review or another "go out on a snowy night visit" again.

Went here when there was a live performer. Could get noisy. Some people dance in a small area by the door. The service could be better however.

Myself along with 3 family friends tried this place over the weekend after I had read positive…read morereviews about it and found ourselves in the area. None of us were overly-satisfied with the experience and I doubt any of us would return voluntarily. They do appear to have a nice patio which would seem nice in the summer; however, it's currently facing a construction zone that doesn't appear to be going anywhere soon. It labels itself as an English pub and they've done very nice things with the décor. I especially appreciate the rows of books at the back of the pub. There are numerous flat screen TVs distributed throughout the pub, playing various sports games/races. The servers are friendly and prompt, although, they asked a couple of questions indicating they weren't familiar with the menu. The atmosphere was pleasant and laid back, The menu has "traditional English fare" at traditional English prices. A typical entrée will cost between $12-$15. Their bar menu is more reasonable with beers ranging from $3-6. One friend has a gluten allergy and only had one option to choose from when picking a main. Thankfully, she was somewhat in the mood for salad but when asked how it was, she responded "it's lettuce." Not the best review of a dish I'd ever heard. The rest of us ordered traditional English classics. Two of the members in the party were very curious about the strange aftertaste left by the "bangers" in the bangers and mash. I must admit, I tried it and couldn't label the strange taste either. The fish and chips were decent but slightly over priced. The best part of that dish for me was the coleslaw of which I could have eaten that dressing all day. When time for coffee and dessert, this place lost another star or two. One person in our party wanted decaf (which they didn't have) and the one person who wanted dessert was underwhelmed by the ONE option available, a deep fried mars bar. Those who had regular coffee were satisfied with it's taste. However, the rest of us went to local Tim Hortons to satisfy our coffee and sweet tooth cravings after dinner. All in all, a lot of little things were wrong or missing that gave this place such a low rating. I don't believe any of us will be returning voluntarily in the future.
