We were told they weren't expecting it to be that busy for a Saturday night, which doesn't make sense when the weekend should be the busiest for restaurants. We shared the Memphis, lobster & crab dip and garlic pan bread. For waiting that long for food, only the garlic pan bread came out cold. The music was godawful, loud, autotuned vocals, dance club crap, and the vibe was very chain franchise, but the place was clean and I was genuinely surprised by how good the veggie curry was. Really disappointing experience. Being from Buffalo I was so excited to return to one of my old favorites that went out of business. The staff here is very sweet so I can't knock of points for that. They clearly work very hard and with a smile! As for the food it doesn't reach expectations. The garlic pan bread (crazy bread) seemed to be undercooked. Sad as that use to be my old favorite. The mains however where the most disappointing. I got the chicken sandwich. The chicken was hard as a rock and over spiced. It also came with really gross looking and tasty lettuce. It also didn't come with pickles? I'm not sure if this is a Canada thing or just a mistake on the chefs parts. Someone else with me had some trouble with the grilled chicken. It was rubbery. The worlds smallest Brownie was pretty good though. But a little sweetness was not enough to distract from the awful mains. I had lunch today at Jack Astor's. I ordered what I always get at a Jack Astor's ... Chicken Parmigiana. The chicken was a decent size and tender and juicy. There was lots of cheese on it ... yum! The pasta was good too. It was a delicious meal. I felt like something sweet so ordered My Cookie Ate Your Brownie. On Heather, my server's advice, I had ice cream added. Sorry probably the worse thing I had when I went to Toronto. It was late, so my friend randomly chose a place. Horrible. Don't remember the name of these dishes. But the Asian style dish was horrible. Sauce was to overpowering. I don't know why it was a a recommended dish. Friend A got The steak. Tried a piece. It was dry, and only the fries seems decent. Friend B got the salad. Decent. I feel like I wasted money here, but if this is your only choice here avoid this dish. My colleagues and I visited this restaurant on a work trip on July 9. I will happily admit that we were a very large group, but we booked well in advance and the restaurant agreed to a fixed menu for us. The service from the wait staff was okay, for the most part. The problems we experienced came someone who I think is a manager, and one particular male waiter. Jack Astor's isn't really known for the quality of its food, but our problems began there. First, because we were offered a fixed menu, no changes in any way were permitted. For example, my vegetarian colleague was not permitted to have chicken removed from his chicken pasta, so he received dry boiled noodles instead. Another colleague requested his steak be cooked medium-well, instead of medium--this was also not permitted. Recognizing that a large group like ours puts a strain on the kitchen, we could understand if we were asking for a different dish. But 30 seconds more on a steak? To achieve this, the manager told us, we would either have to hold back every plate for the entire group or have this colleague served last. Additionally, removing chicken from pasta is actually one less step, unless these are cooked in advance (which I would then recommend not eating). Beyond this, the manager who explained this to us was rude, condescending, and seemed annoyed by our business. As a result, my two colleagues chose not to eat. Good experience, right? In terms of drink service, it was slow, inconsistent, and the male server who took some of our drink orders was, like his manager, rude and condescending. Truth be told, this was the least of our problems and was merely annoying, especially considering that gratuity was automatically added to our drink bills (watch out for this, business travellers). And last but not least, on top of not being able to make even the slightest (and entirely possible) change to the temperature of our food, my "medium" steak arrived rare (and I mean *rare* with a capital R). I didn't dare send it back, because I didn't want to be party to yet another argument with the remarkably rude manager. I would not recommend this restaurant, plain and simple. This visit was disappointing and a waste of money, and will ensure that we do not book with any Jack Astor's again. All I can say to anyone who chooses to visit this restaurant is "good luck." read more

If you are in the area it's the perfect spot to watch a hockey game and have some good food. I highly recommend the "Holy Smoke BBC burger". The meat, the bread, basically everything about this burger is fresh and tastes awesome. The fries however are pretty good but nothing gorgeous. I ordered the Memphis steak(medium rare), when it arrived it looked unusual turns out they gave me a wrong cut with alot of fat cavities, couldn't even chew it. Sam the manager was very kind and told me that's not how the cut was supposed to be and gave me a second portion of what it was meant to taste like, It was delicious, although if y'all are medium rare lovers like myself, I'd still advise to opt for medium instead at this location couldnt cut my last 3/4 of it. Stumbled across this place looking for Tony Roma's (which is now closed). Much more reasonably priced than other restaurants in the area. We had two burgers, two beers, the chicken salad entree and a BBQ chicken pizza. Positives: The pizza is a large size, easy to share between two people. Gluten free buns available for burgers but as usual the buns are smaller so the whole burger seemed smaller. The entire plate with the side of fries was not as filling. The salads are good portion size, the amount of meat was more than expected. The tables have paper that you can draw on, fun idea and something to do when waiting for food and drinks. I did not want a salad as my last experience was basically a bowl of lettuce with little else. I was not hungry enough for a bowl, which they said they could make dairy free and vegetarian (some were already gluten free). I decided just to have dessert instead but there were no gluten free and dairy free desserts:(( The server offered an orange sorbet (their only flavour) so I agreed. The to-go here is awesome, order is always correct, things are separated and labeled. Portions for delivery are equal to when you eat there. (Unlike some places, if you know what I mean!) We go to Jacks around the city at least 1-2 times a week and this has to be by far the worst ever for service. Not only was our server missing half the night and screwed up our order multiple times, she had the most horrible attititude we've ever seen at Jacks. We had to double check to make sure she was indeed our server as she was nowhere to be found half the time and the other half she acted like she was doing us a favour. The only think Patricia was good at was eavesdropping behind the table by the kitchen when we were upset about the trash service...and she was still horrible. Tried to make a reservation via phone was told they didn't take same day reservations as it was a Saturday and it would be busy. Showed up anyway and the place was only half full. Next, tried to order drinks and the server couldn't hear us over the music. I asked if they could turn the music down just a bit so that we could hear each other at the table. Server checked and came back and said no. One of our party ordered steak frites from the menu, when it came it was without fries. Turns out the server had asked if they wanted a side with the meal to which the person had ordered a salad, so they substituted the salad for the fries. If you are ordering steak frites unless you explicitly ask for a substitution assume you want steak and potatoes. Entrees ranged from $22-28. Will not go back. read more
