I must've forgotten how harsh y'all can be on here. I thought this place was pretty damn good! While it's been over a year since my visit and these might not even be on the menu any longer, this place was memorable enough for me to backtrack and leave a well deserved review. My husband and I wolfed down our entrees, him the Fried Chicken Sandwich and I the Italian Burger. My burger came drippin' in fresh fixings and a delicious garlic aioli + balsamic glaze. I loved every bite. My husband's chicken was crisp, crunchy and flavored fantastically. Highly recommend these items if you can still get them. Pours were plenty and I absolutely don't remember what I had but that's because I enjoyed one too many. They were all that good. read more

I am a tourist from California. I sat down to eat at your location on Thursday after my Niagra Falls tour. I was seated and ordered a drink for me and my friend. The waiter came to take my order for food and asked if I had allergies. I said "Yes, seasonal but what would that have to do with my food order?" Waiter responded "food allergies" and I told him I did not have any. Same waiter comes back five minutes later with no drink and asks AGAIN for my food allergies, explaining that I have to tell him that I have one. I told him I don't again, to his irritation. 15 minutes later a woman comes over demanding the same. I calmly explained that the situation is weird and making me uncomfortable as I dont understand what is going on or why they are taking issue with me. She left and 20 minutes later, they came to the table and told me they are refusing service and that I would be escorted out. This was embarrassing, uncalled for, poor customer service, and RACIST!!!!!! I called in today to give feedback on my experience and the same manager named "Steve" hung up in my face mid way through my story. I travel the world and i have NEVER been treated this. Two of us came for a post-travel dinner. We sat outside and were seated immediately, which was a surprise as it appeared very busy. We ordered a Bow-Tie Pasta with Chicken in White Sauce and Dan Dan Noodles. The pasta was ok but nothing exceptional and the noodles were piping hot and extremely tasty. We were in town for a baseball game and stumbled across this place on our way back from the Hockey Hall of Fame. Being from the states, we had to get the poutine....it did not disappoint. Jack Astor's downtown location is a great place for a fast lunch during a short lunch break. The dining room is huge and bustling with noise, activity and people. It is lively and feels fun. The food is what is normally called bar food - burgers, hand helds, etc. We had the fish tacos and the chicken fingers. Each dish was large, with generous portions of food. The fish tacos were especially good - the fish was one long piece of fried fish, nicely done along with the usual accompaniments of slaw and piquant sauce. Well done, Jack Astor! The chicken fingers were also fried and there were so many of them that it was impossible for the 2 of us to finish them. That's not really a bad thing - just maybe a bit wasteful. The service was friendly and well done. Jojo was funny and knowledgeable. He is definitely an asset to this restaurant. This is not a fancy place of course. The food is always a constant and they are really nice there. Huge bar with lots of tvs. The chicken fingers are always a good option and I love the pan bread. We had a lovely server as well. My youngest son and I hit up Jack Astors prior to a Raptors/Celtics game. We arrived around 5:30 before a 7:30 tip-off. We waited in a short line before we were seated. Restaurant was quite large with a lot of TVs. After we were seated a waiter came over to us and we provided our drink and food order at the same time. My youngest son had chicken finger dinner and I had steak frites. We also ordered the house garlic bread. Garlic bread came out very quickly and was excellent. A little more of a delay for our food. My steak was cook pretty close to perfection. My son enjoyed his chicken fingers and fries. Portions were fair, taste was good, service was fair, overall environment was great. The restaurant is clean, which is nice to see towards the end of the day. This service was a little slow. It was the end of the night, there were a few tables that were seated, and enough staff to provide service, which is always nice to see at restaurants these days. We ordered the holy smoke burger, it came without a toasted bun which was room temp when it got to us, tasted good with double burger and two slices of bacon, but honestly when I go to a restaurant I would really prefer to have a warm meal when I order one. I also ordered the fingers and fried. Both were cold on my plate. My fingers were soggy on the bottom, and sitting in oil. My fries were a little wrinkled. Our drinks came quickly, but the food took about 45 minutes. The brownie sliders taste exactly like the box they came out of. I think they were probably little Debbie cakes or something. You can see the frost icicles on the "ice cream" wedged between the brownies, this tasted like an emulsified oil mix with sugar that was probably either sitting in their freezer for weeks, or left out in the heat and refrozen. The food was terribly poor in quality. And I was appalled with how cold everything but my dessert was. The fingers, steak and Buddha salad were my favourite things on this menu, but I've had the holy smokes burger at least 30 times in the last two years, and it was soooo much better every other time I've been to jacks (the queen way and Scarborough, and even sometimes here), mostly because it was SERVED WARM! read more

I came for dinner on a week night. I waited outside at the host stand for 5 minutes only to be told if I wanted a table inside I needed to go inside to the other host stand. I requested a table for one. The host tried to seat me at the bar, I declined and requested a table in the dining room. The host rolled her eyes. I was shown a high top table just off the bar. I declined and requested a regular table. The host again rolled her eyes before seating me. The restaurant wasn't busy and the server I had had a section that included regular tables. During my time there, none of the tables in that section where filled. I ordered a burger and poutine and a cocktail. They didn't give me the option of how I want my burger cooked. Judging by how it came out, grey, dry, and crispy is the standard. This wasn't my first poutine. This one wasn't good. Hot fries, cold gravy, and cheese curds placed under a warmer. The plate was hit, but the gravy was still cold. My cocktail was good. Service was mediocre. Stick to Jack Astors if you want to watch a game, eat crappy food, and have rude hosts. read more

Jacks used to be my go-to restaurant downtown so I went for dinner after not having been there in a few years. I'm not sure if my memory fails me or if it's gone a bit downhill since then. The menu seems to be cut down and they removed one of my favorites; their quesadillas. Their nachos and truffle fries were ok but I remember the nachos having more cheese and the truffle fries being bigger. I'm still a big advocate of their wings though -- delicious! The waiter was super friendly but non-existent. It took forever to find him to order food and to get the bill after I was done eating. Overall my experience was ok but a bit disappointing. I feel the food wasn't quite as good, the menu not as exciting, and the service a bit lacking. If you can get in early before the rush then that would be best. Jacks usually gets pretty busy and they're not worth the wait. read more
