Millennium is a very special place, a Bay Area pillar, and a great experience. Almost every time I celebrate a really special occasion (big birthday, my 6th wedding anniversary, fancy out-of-towners) we go here and I'm never disappointed. Note: order wisely! Not every menu item is guaranteed to tickle your fancy, particularly when so many of us are used to more processed foods and salty junk... This is real whole foods and farm-to-table cuisine, so if there's a dish that seems a little plain, then move along. Cauliflower steak, for instance, is not for everyone, although rest assured they will pump it up with different textures and sauce/gravy. The burger never disappoints, and they do lots of amazing things with mushrooms and local tempeh. They have lots of delicious starters and the gluten-free options are super solid so it doesn't feel like you're missing out. Finally - the patio is dog friendly, and I love this so much. Thanks for letting me bring my blind/elderly/injured dog in his little wheelie kennel under the table so I could enjoy an unhurried dinner. read more

I will preface this by saying that I have severe anorexia nervosa, and this was my first meal out in months in order to celebrate my 16th anniversary with my husband. This was such a memorable experience that it brings tears to my eyes. When I sat down in this beautiful all-vegan restaurant, I was overwhelmed by the fact that I hadn't been to a sit-down restaurant in months, let alone with just my husband. It honestly probably has been a year, during our last anniversary. I looked at the menu, and said "eff it." I was going to try everything. I told this hissing monster of an eating disorder to EFF OFF for just one night. And then it was like time stood still for just one minute. Like nothing else mattered but my husband and me. I asked the lovely server (didn't get her name, but she had pink hair) if we could have some of the complimentary focaccia and spread, because so many times, restaurants never have vegan spreads and sometimes not even vegan bread. I had a whole piece with their amazing carrot spread. I closed my eyes; I savored every bite. I'm certain I looked crazy because who does this with bread? But I didn't care. Next we decided on a prix fixe menu (58$ per person)- each of us got a starter, entree, and dessert, as well as a chef-made amuse bouche. Out came the amuse-bouche: a plate of pickled cabbage, carrots, olives, and mushrooms with some more bread and spread. I voraciously attacked the cabbage, sitting back between bites and just uttering enjoying every single bite. I had another half of a focaccia, but stopped because I was already getting so so full. The starters came out: my husband got the arborio encrusted fried mushrooms, which was like vegan calamari. It was served with a chili sauce and a light cabbage slaw. I got more of the amazing pickled vegetables which also included brussel sprouts. To DIE for. I ACTUALLY TRIED ONE OF MY HUSBAND'S FRIED MUSHROOMS. It took me several minutes to get there and do it, and I did regret it a little bit just because I didn't like it very much (it was kind of bland, especially after those pickled vegetables). I did devour the pickled vegetables though, every bite nearly moaning. My husband really enjoyed it though, so I'm not knocking it. The entrees came out, and I was low-key panicking. I had gotten a lentil burger on a pretzel bun with onion rings- the sides were fingerling potatoes and pickled vegetables. My husband got an amazing polenta and mushroom dish with panko-crusted celery root "scallopini." Anyone who knows me knows that I do not eat "hand foods"- I eat pizza, burgers, burritos... every dish... with a fork and knife. Eating a burger with my hands is a challenge in normal situations, let alone when I have a freaking eating disorder. After a small meltdown, where I was breathing very hard and was super anxious, I decided I didn't need to completely freak myself out. I took the bun off, put the onion rings to the side, and had already asked for all the sauces on the side. I did leave the sauteed onions on the burger. I finally FINALLY took a blessed bite of the lentil burger with onions, and it was like everything in my mouth exploded. I can't describe the feeling of eating gourmet food when you are so starved. I ended up eating half of the burger, and bringing the sauces (aioli and cheese sauce) and bun home in a box. I'm sure the server thought I was nuts because I brought literally every single little crumb of food home with us. I know that's a fancy restaurant faux pas but eff it. The server was so gracious and kind about it. Then dessert was brought out, and it was just yet another one of the mo incredible mouthful of food I have ever enjoyed. My husband got the "chocolate bar"- basically a chocolate mousse bar with whipped cream. Of course, it was vegan. He took a spoonful, and held it out to me. And it was like old times when we shared foods with no problem. I ate it, and I reverted to childhood when my dad made chocolate mousse pies for all our family friends. This thing tasted like it was anything but vegan and I have NO IDEA how they did it. Just absolutely incredible. Did I mention they put cute little candles on our desserts and wished us a happy anniversary when they brought it out? The server also said she was so surprised we were celebrating 16 years, because "you definitely do not look that old!" It's that vegan diet, I guess. Hahaha. Just kidding. Anyway, moving on: I got the oat blondie bar with a lovely vanilla ice cream and a WHITE CHOCOLATE BARK on top- anyone who eats vegan knows just how hard it is to find white chocolate or make it. I savored one bite of the chocolate, one bite of the ice cream, and one or two bites of the blondie. Then gave the ice cream to my husband and packed away the chocolate and blondie for our son. Stellar place. Believe the hype. My gf told me so much about this place and how good it was but dayum Now am a believer! She was not lying!!Came here on a Friday night on a whim and managed to get seated right away. All the staff was Uber friendly and very attentive the entire time. I really enjoyed the drinks , the food, the ambiance and wait staff. All flowed together like melted chocolate. the drinks: I got the ginger apple hot toddy, omg it was so f'ing good. It cured me being a bit cold right away and also gave me a nice buzz . My gf got the apricot lemon soda which was good but wasn't as Inventive as the other drinks on menu. the food: I got the sopes for my appetizer and they were moist, flavorful and decadent. For the main course I got the conchiglie Alfredo which had a creamy cashew Alfredo sauce with capers and was yummy and filling. I tore it all up. It was definitely worth getting but maybe could have used more spices. Finally got The peach gallete for desert and it was amazing and came with blackberry ice cream. It fused so well together. My gf got the tofu chorizo tacos(which I tried and they were hella good considering I'm not a big fan of chorizo), the curry spice tofu sandwich which was so big she couldn't finish it and the chocolate olive oil brownie(I tried it and it was super rich but otherwise nothing special minus the Chile liqueur soaked cherries. All in all I was wonderfully surprised by how creatively delicious dishes and elegant ambiance led me to give this place 5 stars. I am so glad they could accommodate us last minute like that. I love millennium and I'm sure I'll be back again. However, my experience tonight was shocking considering the amount of money that was spent at this establishment. Overall, everybody tried their best, but I am confused how the amount of money that we're spending here does not equate to the quality of their service, customer service and hospitality. They did comp some drinks and gave a free appetizer which is a very nice gesture however, in my personal opinion, not only should things be comped but the moment they realize that we were going to be waiting an hour to be seated, and they knew they were in the wrong they should've been apologetic but instead they did the bare minimum like it was difficult for them almost as if they expected us to wait and deal with the multitude of problems I won't even get into all of them because it's a great place to eat, but you need to treat your customers like they're spending thousands of dollars there which they are so you should be thankful that we're coming in and you should be happy to see us even if you're under stress that's what a good restaurant that's what I thought. I just paid $240 for an abjectly terrible dinner for 2 people. Lowlights included: *starter bread: when was this baked? Last week? The best dinner out I've had in a long time! We came on a Wednesday evening for the "whisker Wednesday" pumpkin pasta special and it did not disappoint! My husband (not vegan) had the mustard and brown sugar mushrooms and absolutely loved it. My daughter had the pumpkin masa chalupa and was really happy with her choice, too! And then there was dessert, my god, delicious, don't skip the dessert!! The service was perfect, our server was just the sweetest person and gave us the right amount of attention. The ambiance was nice but really chill and the flowers on the table were a nice touch, very welcoming. We sat inside but I'd love to sit on the patio next time, it looked really lovely. Came in around 6PM on a weekday for their pre-set dinner menu. We were immediately seated in the adorable, covered outdoor area toward the back of the restaurant. Appetizers: 1. little gem & winter greens salad - solid/light app if you don't want to be too full for the main course 2. Coriander & Aborio crusted oyster mushrooms - these were good, but very fried (not my preference) 3. Chickpea & spinach fritters - our favorite of the apps. SO GOOD. Main Courses: 1. Indian Spiced Tofu Sandwich - this was AMAZING. The pretzel bun was bomb but the curry aoli sauce was the star of the show. 2. Fennel Alfredo - decent, but wouldn't recommend. There are other/better entrees 3. Coconut & Peanut Glazed Tempeh - so good! flavorful and not too heavy. Desserts: 1. Chocolate Hazelnut Pot de Creme - yum! Like a ferrero rocher in a cup 2. This place is very weird. Sometime I go I have something that tastes amazing and unique. Other times I go my entree is flavorless and under seasoned. They have some creative entrees that they don't always pull off. Their ingredients sound fancy but when you get the food it's usually underwhelming in flavor. From the moment we walked in we were taken care of by the host Chris. He was so gracious, courteous, and welcoming. He sat us in a great seat even though we didn't have reservations on a busy Friday night. Then we were greeted by our amazing waiter Carmelo. He was extremely busy with several tables yet the service he provided us was beyond exceptional. If we could give him 100 stars we would. This was my wife and I's favorite spot until tonight. First, the crusted oyster mushrooms were under seasoned and lukewarm at best. What's worse is that my wife never got her entree (ordered salad and pickled vegetables from the appetizer section). We also never received our complimentary bread. The server never checked on us until well after I finished my entree. She mentioned that there was a delay (no s***). At this point, my wife didn't want it anymore and we just wanted the check. The manager came out and apologized and said they would take it off our bill. The way she worded it made it sound like she was doing us favor (why the f*** would it still be on the tab anyways). They did offer dessert on the house but at this point we wanted to get the hell out of there. It's a shame as we really enjoyed this restaurant. Not sure if we will ever go back. read more

I do not know where to start. Good: The service and ambiance were thoughtful and fun. Not so good: food. We came for bbq night. We tasted 3 different options, I would say that the edible one was mushrooms. They were crisp and well seasoned. The rest of the dishes suffered from either over or underseasoning. There seemed to be an overuse of creams that tasted very artificial, heavy, and almost sticky. Unpleasant. I really do not understand the hype that this restaurant enjoys. I made reservations for 8pm and didn't get sat until 8:41pm. For a set menu that costed over $400 (after tax + tip) for two people, I'd hoped for more reliable scheduling. It would have helped if the staff was at all apologetic about it, but we were just ignored for 40 minutes until we asked again. read more

***3.5 Stars*** Can I make a confession?! I'm a meat whore. I loves the meat. LOVES it. BUT... that doesn't mean that I can't get down with vegan fare. Confession #2: I had my first vegan meal here. Okay, correction: my first "gourmet" vegan meal. Let's face it; this place ain't cheap. But for the quality of the food and the ambience, I can see how people wouldn't mind paying for it. Plus, any place that has a bangin' ass happy hour with amazing drinks is alright with me. I met up with one of my vegan friends here for dinner and happy hour. My friend had been raving about this spot and I've passed by it so many times, so I finally decided to give it a go. I arrived a little ahead of time due to the advantage of working in the area. They have an awesome little happy hour here from 5-6:30 during the week. I decided to grab a drink and order a few apps while I waited for my friend to arrive. I had a Chile Drop cocktail which is similar to a lemon drop but made with chile vodka, chile bitters, and garnished with sugar-pink peppercorn on the rim. I usually prefer my cocktails sweeter so I asked the bartender to adjust the sweetness for me. Hot DAMN! It was sweet but my oh my was it spicyyy! I loved the chile-lemon combo. One thing that Millennium does right is their cocktails and the Chile Drop was definitely proof of that. For apps, I ordered the pistachio stuffed dates and the candied bourbon pecans. I love stuffed dates, but these dates were just a little too rich for my liking. I've usually had them stuffed with cheese which balances the sweetness, but these were just a little too sweet. Those candied bourbon pecans were on hit, though! I could have probably finished a few bags of those if they had them. I love bourbon flavored anything, and the flavor paired well with the pecans. When my friend arrived, they sat us at our table. They have a nice looking pre-fixe dinner menu but we felt that it was way overpriced at $50 person even when split. We decided to split the pre-fixe anyways and we also ordered a chard & green olive tamale. For our pre-fixe we chose the following: *Gold tomato & peach gazpacho: This was just okay. The flavors were good, but I'm just simply not a fan of cold soups. My friend really enjoyed it though. *Green peach & corn tikki cakes app: This was delicious! The corn tikki cakes were moist and fragrant. The consistency was perfect and I loved the side salsa that it came with. *Nectarine & peanut tempeh satay: Loved the flavor profile of this entrée! I'm not really a fan of tempeh but the peanut curry that it was sautéed in tasted amazing! The presentation was also spot on. *Tea pouched peach w/ vanilla ice cream: The warm of the peach paired with the cold vanilla ice cream was simply a match made. The nut garnishments were a nice touch as well. The chard & green onion tamale itself was slammin'! It was spicy and tender which we both loved. But what I didn't love were those tough ass mushrooms that they paired them with. The mushrooms kind of ruined this dish for me to be honest. The ambience and setup of this place is what appealed to me the most. It's beautifully decorated, open, and spacious. Pretty lighting with a gorgeous heated and covered patio that's dog friendly. I was really feeling the vibes here. The bartenders were super friendly but the table service was definitely lacking. Service was just kind of all over the place. The host didn't really know where to seat us and our server barely checked in on us during our visit and took forever to bring the check. It does get busy here but a quick acknowledgement would have been nice. Overall, the food was pretty good but nothing really wowed me. It's just too pricey for what we received. For the price, I expected a lot more, but the ambience and the drinks are really where it's at here. Dinner with friends. My GF's daughter and son in law are vegan. So this place is the place to go along College Avenue. Highly decorated vegan restaurant with a full bar. A clean modern warehouse decor with exposed steel beams and artwork that is reminiscent of years past. We ordered an appetizer with an entree per person that we shared family style. The ordered entrees included a special item banh mi, conchiglie pasta dish, bbq sauced mushroom with green beans over polenta and tamal. Each dish was unique and enjoyable in their own way. As noted in many reviews, the noise level may inhibit table conversations as the bar and diner chatter can be overwhelming. The meal was enjoyable and highly recommend a visit. read more

We love Millennium and would rate it a 4-5 for the food alone. This rating and review is specifically for our experience tonight. We had a reservation for 6:30pm and noted in our reservation that we needed to head out by 7:30pm for a concert. We sat at the nearly empty bar thinking it would be quicker and immediately ordered our food and drinks. It took about 20 min just to get a draft beer poured. We were there for an hour and a half before we got our entrees, which I had to ask them to change to take out because we were running so late. Meanwhile, the bar filled up and everyone around us got their food before us. I don't know why we had such bad service and it took so long to get our food. Would definitely recommend for the food but not if you have any type of timeline. read more

Shout out to host Chrisbaby, who greeted us warmly and expertly at the entrance and shepherded us to our table with a few spot-on menu recommendations. He took great care of us and was the best! Our table of four ordered a wide variety of dishes, and every single bite was fantastic. The big hit of the night was the Mac & Cheese -- it was creamy and crunchy and delicious. No idea how they created a plant-based M&C that good. We're still talking about it. Kudos to the great wine list, too. Overall, just a total treat. We went on a Friday night, the restaurant was full and the ambience was good. We had a reservation so we were seated right away. And it's pretty much all downhill from that point on. Service: definitely one of the worst service experience I've had anywhere. No one was rude but it was very lackluster in almost every way. On Friday nights they have a prix-fixe menu only, which includes an amuse bouche (same one for every table that night), and we could choose one from each list of options they had for appetizer, main course, and dessert. We waited for 10 minutes before the front of house staff (not our waiter) approached us and asked what we wanted to drink. Then we waited another 10 minutes before we were served the amuse bouche, with our menus still on the table because our waiter still hadn't taken our orders. Finally, 5 minutes later, the waiter came and took our order. I appreciate them trying to speed things up by serving the amuse bouche, but it went to show how ridiculous the wait was. Later after our main course, some staff cleared our table and set it up for dessert. While we were waiting for our dessert, our waiter came and asked if we had already had our main course..?? And finally the straw that broke the camels back (I literally started laughing when this happened), when I got the check back to tip and sign, they didn't give me a pen... and I had to flag down someone else to give me a pen. Food: I thought it was mediocre at best. There were a few highlights but for the price, I would probably have literally preferred to eat anywhere else. The amuse bouche was most definitely not an amuse bouche. We got a big plate of bread with some toppings to go with it. The pumpkin sauce was good, but again, it was big it was messy it was oily - not an amuse bouche. They are very creative with ingredient usage, which I appreciated. You don't get to see a lot of the ingredients or ingredient combinations used at other restaurants. Whether the creativity led to good taste is another topic. The chocolate bar dessert I got was very salty, saltier than the main course, to the point where I wondered if they accidentally used salt instead of sugar. My girlfriend tried it and agreed. The waitstaff handled the situation well and did offer us another dessert item to take home. They said the dessert chef tried the chocolate bar in the kitchen and said it's how it's supposed to taste, which we were a little baffled by. Not sure if it was just ours that was salty, but from the fact that the table behind us also sent back half of the chocolate bar uneaten, I'd say we weren't the only ones. Overall definitely a dinner to forget. From the other glowing reviews I hope they were just having an off night of being understaffed or something. Went here for a double birthday party. We were seated as reserved in the patio, which despite the heavy rain was perfectly sheltered and with great spacing between tables and a cozy farmhouse experience (outdoor heaters were so good we could take our coats off even in 50 degree weather.). we had the prix fixe menu (available for reservations by email). * amuse bouche: homemade bread with a variety of dips and pickled vegetables. the bread was very dry and the sides didn't blow me away. 3/5 * arborio and coriander crusted mushrooms: my vegan friends all rave about this so i had high expectations. unfortunately this was lacking in salt and spices. the texture of the mushrooms was nice but i thought it was overly fried. 3/5 * chickpea fritters - WOW. this was my favorite dish. the fritters were exceptionally creamy and the indian spice flavors were strong but harmonious. 5/5 * coconut peanut glazed tempeh - the tempeh was wonderfully smokey, had a delicious glaze, and went well with the kumquat jam. the side salad was lackluster. 4.5/5 * panko crusted maitake mushrooms - i thought this was also under-salted and could have used more flavor. the mushroom texture was great though. 4/5 * hazelnut chocolate pot de creme - the layers were really tasty and the chocolate wasn't too sweet. 5/5 read more
