Nice little wine and beer shop with some gifts upstairs. Never saw a creepy old man unless the pretty 40ish hockey mom who owns the place is a witch who can shapeshift. The wines are targeted to vacationers and newbies whereas a jaded palate might find the selection a bit limited. Imagine a smaller version of a trader joes or World Market wine selection. The little bar/tasting area offers maybe a dozen by the glass options. Again, they are meant to be crowd pleasers so you wont find chambertin, vosne romanee, or small production grower champagne. I tried all of the reds.....A bit on the big and jammy side?!?!...Maybe. Throw up?!?....Hardly. The vibe is very comfortable and cozy/dark (its an old building after all), The porch is next to a great country garden and shaded by a couple of crab apple trees. We grabbed some sandwiches and brought them back to have with the wine, no problem. Guy next to me had a "world's greatest bloody mary" and said it was pretty good. Great little wine shop! I really enjoyed hanging out for bit and trying some of the wines. Their affordable prices are fantastic too - I was able to bring home a couple bottles of quality wine :) They also have a good, relaxed atmosphere both on the patio, and inside at the bar. The only reason they didn't get five stars is their bloody mary. It didn't quite live up to the hype. It was good, but not as awesome as I had expected, and I really like bloody mary's. Over all, a good spot to wind down, or pick up a bottle for home. :) PS...I met the owners since they both served our party, and neither were old or creepy. Awesome little wine shop located in the northern woods of WI. They have a great selection of $20 and under bottles of wine that are well selected. Many new choices that you don't see every day but drink very well, R Collection for example which was a great red blend form St. Helena, CA with berry and papper tastes. Owners are great. It was raining when we showed up and Peter came running out with an umbrella to greet us at the car. Go mid afternoon and plan on spending some time there popping a bottle, or just tasting from their glass list, it's relaxing, friendly and perfect. read more

Stopped in for lunch and had an excellent sandwich and a beer. Super accommodating of kids even though it's geared to adults. We love school house for romantic evenings with a glass of wine and spur of the moment quick meals. It's also our quick stop on the way north for good wines at a reasonable price. We had an outstanding afternoon there. Had 6 or so samples before ordering my first glass of wine. Great food (we had the cheese/sausage plate for two and homemade soft pretzel for lunch), bloody marys, patient and friendly service and great reasonably priced wines. Don't expect 95± point rated bottles but expect some really good $10-$15 wines. read more

1) The "Creepy Old Man review" is completely out to lunch. 2) Full Disclosure: I am a casual friend of the new owner, Sharon, who took over this Spring. As someone with a deep appreciation of food and wine, I am in LOVE this place. It's hands down our favorite place to go for a glass of wine or a cocktail. It has an authentic quaint village atmosphere with a great selection of wines in the $10-12+ range. The outdoor garden area is pretty and relaxing and inside is a warm and cozy little bar and seating area. Another big plus is you can actually buy a bottle at the shelf price and drink it there... a WAY better deal than paying at least $6 for one mediocre -- if you're lucky -- glass anywhere else. My advice?... Skip Hayward, pack a picnic, drive to Stone Lake, stop at Rollingwood Greenhouse (A+++), and then go pop open a great bottle at SchoolHouse Wines. I promise you'll be glad you did. These are not the owners from the 2012 review, so give it a try. Vastly expanded food and drink options than in 2012. A very pleasant place to relax in the Northwoods.
