It was better than I ever expected! There are about a million pastry options, first of all, which is the BEST! No shortage of sweet or savory options here. Second, the coffee menu was also awesome! I got a creamsicle iced something or another and it was soooo yummy. My boyfriend was very jazzed for a geisha coffee pour over and drank it with his pinky up of course because, fancy. The ambiance was PHENOMMMM truly can't get over the vibe. Every detail inside this place was so carefully curated and well thought out, it was stunning. Everywhere I looked I couldn't stop admiring something, from a sconce to a tabletop color to a bonsai. Everything was stunning. It was also so much bigger than I expected! I loved that there were so many different rooms and different seating options. In chatting with a team member, they offered us a little tour which was really the cherry on top. Ordered: Flat White (~$6) Scallion Cheddar Coffee Cake (~$4) Ube Caramel Delight (~$8) Aya's take: Milli by Metric is the quintessence of what a proper coffee shop should be! Architecturally simple, modern, and bright with tons of seating! The drink menu gives you the flexibility to order some classics or specialty drinks and even more niche options for the true coffee connoisseurs. They have a bunch of pastries that they also made in-house. I love that their theme is "made by humans". My Flat White was balanced, creamy, and smooth. Both pastries we got were good tries but the Ube Caramel Delight was more worth it! A nice combination of flaky pastry, ube cream, and caramel clusters. What a gorgeous cafe! I love the clean, modern, yet warm and earthy aesthetic. They have a ton of seating and seating variety, from bar seating, a long table for large groups, regular cafe tables, and island table seating with luscious green planters at the center. The chairs are comfy too! Lighting is soft and thoughtfully placed for a calm and cozy atmosphere. The pastries were yummy but I wished the savory pastries were warmed up when they brought them to our table. I don't know if that's an option but that would be great if it was. Warmed pastries would have brought this to 5 stars! I like that they served pastries with a fork and knife so that we could share. We ordered the Jordanian laminated, which was filled with mushrooms and olive. There was one olive pit in there so be careful but otherwise it was good! I liked that the pastry itself was lightly sweet and complimented the savory. We also got the bacon leek turnover and they were generous with the bacon which offered a nice umami saltiness. This is one I really wished was heated. Last, we ordered the ube caramel delight. It was very tasty and I liked the ube cream! For drinks we shared a strawberry thyme latte with oat milk (hot). Delicious, not too sweet, and beautiful latte art in a cute mug. I definitely recommend this spot for a cafe catch up with a friend or to cozy up to a book! Keep in mind that they try to be laptop-free after 2pm on weekdays, and all day Friday through Sundays, I believe. I think it's great because it maintains the shared space and the intention for the space. They also serve cocktails and other drinks at night I believe. Servers were great, they walked around frequently to pick up finished plates and keep the space clean and tidy. There is also a separate entrance for pickup only orders. Loved the vibes of this place! The pastries are unique. The cinnamon roll was a bit dry but the overall taste was good. We didn't get any alcohol but we got coffee and matcha. Tried out Milli by metric and loved the coffee and vibes. The space is huge and there's plenty of free street parking outside. The coffee selections were great - got a cortado and a chai latte. Both were amazing and we tried one of the cakes - chocolate with gooseberry and fennel. Super moist and tasty. The only thing i will say that was a negative is the first coffee came and then it took a while for the second coffee and then i think our dessert was forgotten until we had to remind someone. I saw this place while walking by, and since it is in the area; I gave it a shot. It is a very nice place, aesthetically pleasing. The menu was pretty straightforward with cold brew, espresso, and some signature drinks. They also have wine, some Kombuchas, bread and pastries. I tried the Strawberry Thyme Latte. It was flavorful without being too sweet. While it did take a while to place the order, it came to my table fairly quickly. Coffee shops seem to be all over Chicago, so finding the best vibes can be challenging or bountiful depending on what you're looking for! After seeing plenty of Milli by Metric social media buzz...we knew this one was going to pass the vibe test! Street parking in the neighborhood nearby! This space is everything I adore...mood lighting, exposed brick, community seating, and modern design touches. This is the perfect spot to grab a coffee and get some serious work done. The staff was friendly and welcoming! We ordered a Cortado and their season special, the Strawberry Thyme Latte. The Cortado had lovely flavor from the espresso and just enough creamy milk. The Strawberry Thyme Latte was a subtly fruity, with just a hint of herbaceousness that really elevated the drink. Top notch spot and very glad we chose this one! read more

3.5 stars. Hard to give this rating but here are the issues. It's way too expensive. $5 for an espresso. $4.5 for a small drip coffee. Specialty drinks in the $8.5 and up range. Pastry's, that while are delicious, are also really more expensive than most other coffee spots and are not that big. Thy are really slow. If you walk in and there is a line that stretches to the door, which is maybe 10 to 15 people, expect to wait 15 to 20 minutes to o place your order and then another 5 to 10 minutes to get your food and drinks (unless it's a drip). I've walked in an walked out before because of that line. Seating and parking. Parking is obviously out of their control trial, but there is super limited parking in the area and it's really hard to find a spot. Your best bet is walking or riding there. As for the seating, it seems like there is plenty of seating but people camp out there with computers for long time and even at random times it's been really tough to find a spot. Lastly, their bags of coffee are really expensive. I know they consider themselves top of their market, but unless you are an occasional coffee drinker or just have that much money to burn, you can't drink their coffee daily. They sell 2 pound bag for $49. The place is stunning though. I hope their take out window opens eventually and maybe they can light a fire under their staffs ass to speed up. Something helpful also might be to put the menu by the door and maybe out the pastry display in the middle section so by the time the people get to the counter they know what they are ordering. Good luck to this business. There is t a ton over there, but these issues are going to prevent me from going regularly. read more

Finally decided to stop by hoping that now that it's been open for a few months the hype would die down. The first time I tried to come here there was a line out the door that didn't move. Thankfully, my second time around was a better experience. On a Thursday early afternoon it was pretty crowded, but I was still able to snag a table to work at for a couple hours. The latte I ordered was decent, but I wouldn't say extraordinary. The chocolate croissant was probably the chocolatiest I've ever had, but also the messiest. How do you eat this thing. Great place to post up for a few hours and work, or to meet up with a friend for a chat. The coffee is good, but there's definitely better quality elsewhere, even at the west town metric location. read more

My friend and I were visiting and had heard amazing things about this spot so we had to check it out and it absolutely lived up to its hype!! The service was very well timed and when we were trying to decide what to offer they were all really helpful in getting us the best order based on our interests. I got a oatmilk cortado and it was so delicious!! The espresso they use was exceptional!! My friend got their Guatemala pour over and it tastes so delicious as well! I'm someone who thrives on trying new places but am often disappointed when I return somewhere. Sadly, Milli was no exception. My first visit was remarkable. We ordered the Maize Mocha ($10) and the Everything Nice ($8) - both drinks were so unique and incredibly flavorful. The same can be said for their pastries. They were busy, but there are many tables, so we were able to find somewhere to sit without issue. We went back, hoping to have a repeat experience. I got the Maize Mocha again, and my husband ordered the Matcha Goma. Our drinks were so much less flavorful than our first visit. We were there on a weekday and were expecting it would be less busy than on a weekend when we had previously visited. We were half-right in that there was no line, but there was practically no seating available. We ended up at one of the community tables. This seems to be a very popular workspace for people on laptops. While the drinks and seating were disappointing, our pastries helped make up for it. read more

The minute you walk into this place you are astounded by the modern day epic twist on the architecture. It is very minimalistic goes with the theme of the café. Everything is very thought out and they have single origin options. I loved the options for pastries and I was able to try the buckwheat biscuit. Milli by Metric is my favorite cafe in all of Chicago! If you buy beans from the cafe, you can get a free 8 oz pour over! I came on my birthday last year the week that it opened and there was a huge line. This time around, it was so cold outside and there was still a line outside. The staff were so sweet and gave us some free sample of coffee for the people that were waiting outside. One of my friends has a nut allergy and the staff were so kind and patient with helping me figure out which pastries don't contain nuts. Impeccable service! For January, the specialty drinks of the month were the matcha goma and the maize mocha. My goodness, the matcha goma had different LAYERS to the drink. I don't think I've ever experienced that with a drink before. You can actually taste the orange, maple, cinnamon, and black sesame. The barley tea brioche was also yummy and they had little barley tea seeds toasted on top to top it off! From now on, I'm going to get all my beans from Milli! read more

This spot is a little bit a victim of its own success. Still often has a line to the door, and the service is... very very slow. Line can be a half hour wait. Not sure they are checking this or working to make it more efficient. For instance, the menu is unreadable from the line, which surely slows things down at the register. Similarly, the last two times I've been, the cafe Wifi has refused to connect. Likely not configured for the number of people. Yes the vibe is cool and coffee is top notch (my double-shot was ideal crema and extraction). But experience is mid because of the long waits and struggle to find a seat. read more

We came on a Saturday morning and it really started to pick up around 9:30-10am (the line was out the door). I really enjoyed the cappuccino, super smooth and the espresso cut through the milk very well. I believe they mentioned they use the En Masse beans for their cafe drinks. For food I tried the kale danish (can't remember the exact name) and black sesame eclair. The danish was good, it would've been perfect if it was heated up. The pastry was buttery and flaky. The eclair was also good, the black sesame flavor was subtle in a good way. This place is huge! It's got a lot of seating. Take a lap around before you find a place to settle down, but be careful of the elevation change when you enter the second room. It tripped me up every time. There are also restrooms in the back. I've been a die-hard fan and supporter of Metric for years, so I was very excited to come to the long-awaited opening of Milli, its second location. Unlike Metric in west loop, Milli offers plenty of seating and a larger assortment of baked goods. While they eventually want to transition into a hybrid coffee/ wine bar, for now the space is very well suited for the WFH crowd with plenty of comfortable seats and natural lighting. The interior is gorgeous and offers an elevated experience (including the Aesop soap in the restrooms). The coffee is the same as in West Loop, so one of chicagos best. I am always excited to try their drip coffee on rotations. They also have excellent espresso-based drinks and a few fun drinks like a mule as well. The baristas are kind and helpful, and brew/ pull a fantastic coffee. I am excited to see how this place transforms over time, but for now, it's a wonderful addition to Chicago's coffee scene. While there is limited street parking in the area Milli has a ton of bike racks at its entrance! read more

They offer an extensive coffee and pastry menu, which I really appreciate. From pourover to espresso and cold brew, they feature beans from different regions and farms to suit a variety of tastes. The space itself is modern, stylish, and comfortable, with plenty of seating options. While their lattes could use some improvement -- some cups are less consistent with slightly overly thick foam -- the single-origin anaerobic espresso is excellent. Great new-ish Avondale coffee spot. Stopped in with a group of 4 on that snowy Saturday back at the end of November and was surprised that they were not only open but absolutely buzzing. The staff did an incredible job keeping the long line moving fast. I took my cousin's suggestion to try the seasonal signature drink the Harvest Party and the sweet potato curry drink was perfect for getting through that wintry mix mess of an afternoon. It is a beautiful space inside with lots of seating, conducive to both getting work done or catching up with old friends. I can certainly see why this place is so popular! I do think that there are a lot of kinks that they will work out over time. They seem of have a tendency of selling out of pastries quickly but have no way of communicating that until you reach the register. I had been here once before and was able to try several different baked goods. I was excited for my out-of-town guests to try some this week only to discover that they had sold out of most items by midday. My first visit had also been marred by discovering they were sold out of something I really wanted to try, but I had chalked it up to them being a newer place. The beverages they serve here are certainly creative and intriguing. I don't recall what I tried but I remember enjoying it - it was a light, fruity beverage. ***3.5 stars*** I've been on a hunt for a good matcha latte in Chicago. I previously enjoyed the one at Metric so I was excited to see there was a sister cafe up north. There is some street parking out front and the space within Milli is HUGE compared to Metric. There are three separate rooms and there is a combination of small and large tables so the space is excellent for working/studying. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they also had pastries but we had lunch plans so passed on pastries that day. I had a hot matcha latte with oat milk and it tasted very milk forward so I was disappointed that I could not taste the matcha flavor as much as I hoped. Hubby got the same thing but cold with no ice and it was also milky but not as much as mine. Overall, I want to give Milli the benefit of the doubt since it is a newer establishment. I'd be willing to come back to give it another shot. read more

Decided to check out this new cafe with my family. We found free street parking easily. Inside is definitely a cool vibe. There were lots of people with their laptops working so it's a good space for remote work. My family was able to snag the last available table for 4. There's plenty of seating inside. By the time we arrived, they were out of all the pastries and only had a mini pie left. I tried the superkhana chai collab with a shot of espresso. I ordered milk steamers for my kids while my husband had the cold brew. Overall I'm happy with the experience and I plan to go back asap to try a pastry. read more

I am obsessed with Metric coffee so very excited for a cafe to open on the north west side. The interior is beautiful. Love the sleek decor and the mix of individual and communal tables. Extensive coffee menu with pour overs, espresso options, and seasonal items. Love the 12oz iced latte option. Personally I wasn't blown away by the pastries. Shared the croissant, garlic twist, and cookies and everything was fine, but nothing exceptional. I might be spoiled by other bakeries in the Avondale/Logan area. Seating is plentiful, but it's often busy. On weekends the line can go out the door and it's normal for a 20 min plus wait. Show up before 9 to hopefully avoid the line and get first pick at pastries. read more

Great location and ambiance! The spot has appeal for studying, coffee dates, or as a remote work space. The line was long for opening week, but moved consistently. The baristas were very helpful and answered everyone's questions about the unfamiliar concept drinks and the bakery offerings. The croissant was fantastic as was the latte! The espresso cream soda was good but it was what you'd expect of coffee and soda. No creamy element and definitely out of the norm for me. I wish their signature drinks had a little more variety in texture/bases as they seemed to all be soda based. The baked goods are fresh each day as they run out close to the end of the day.
