Millie's is one of my favorite restaurants for breakfast. They never disappoint. Their omeletsand are fantastic and my favorite crepes are to die for. The food is always done as per order and delicious. The staff is phenomenal. Debbie, Stella, Juan, Georgia, are just a few of the exceptional staff. The young man that serves the food and the one that buses the table are true treasures. I wish I knew their names but Millie's is lucky to have them. I eat here as much as possible when I go to Sarasota. Mostly for breakfast but it is great for lunch too. It is hard to decide what to order as everything is delicious, pancakes, waffles, omelettes, sandwiches, but especially the pancakes. The recent Sarasota Health Dept,s inspection of their kitchen, as required by law, was very disturbing. Great food! Very filling! Had the sausage and eggs with Russian blintzes. Strawberry sauce was not too sweet and very good. We have eaten here thrice now at this local long time treasure and all three times the breakfasts have been terrific! One of the few places ANYWHERE that makes their own breakfast potatoes from scratch and they are the best!!! The grits are just right for my taste...a little creamy...true southern style. I often take the family here after church. Corned beef hash is a favorite for the guys. I love the French toast and fruit. Affordable prices and you can usually get a table pretty quickly. Millie's is a hidden gem!!! The decor is like Grandmas house. Full of charm and homey knock knacks. The menu has lots of choices - something for everyone!!! We had a build your own omelet and the German Apple Pancake with the pecans. The menu says that takes 20 minutes to make... Well worth the wait.. The waitress seemed annoyed when we ordered that she shrugged her shoulders and looked at the time. It was a little after 1 on a Saturday afternoon, they do not close till 2:30. I said it's only 1:00 that should be enough time, the waitress stomped off. When she brought our food order, she says that she doesn't know why we ordered the German Apple Pancake, that the best item on the menu is the stuffed French toast. I hate to leave this because I love their food and they are fast but the last two times I got a to go order it was wrong. First time the eggs were scrambled not fried like I ordered. This time though the strawberries (on the side for the waffle) were completely disgusting. They must have stored them with an onion because they were mushy, smelled of onion and tasted like eating an onion. It was also the incorrect strawberry side item for the waffle. I have never had an issue actually eating in the restaurant so perhaps no more to go for them. read more

By the looks of the Yelp reviews, I can only surmise that Sarasota is in desperate need of a good breakfast place...if fellow Yelpers give this place close to 5 stars, we are really in trouble. The food is average (read: not particularly good or bad, but kind of old fashion cooking - ex. omellete is smothered with way too much cheddar cheese on top). The service was very friendly and nice, and the bus boys were very efficient. The decor is really old fashioned, something I would imagine finding in Savanah, GA...or some other over the top parody of a very southern city. The average clientele age was around 62...(nothing wrong with that, just a fact). And the place was packed on a random Tuesday around 9:30am. I just couldn't understand the attraction, or why it was so packed...I can only imagine that it might have been featured on a food show or got a good review in some type of travel magazine...by my experience, it was really average all the way around, expect below average on decor, unless you are into that look. read more

One of our 2 favorite breakfast joints in Sarasota! Fresh, home-cooked food that's served fast. Delicious stuffed french toast, crepes, blintzes, and my husband said the LARGE banana pancake was the best pancake he's had. Traditional eggs/bacon/home fries breakfasts are always fabulous as well. The decor is a little cheesy for me (think: Grandma's house with lace, china cabinets and French voile that's over-the-top), but love the food, service, and prices. Spending a weekend on the west coast we look for eateries outside of the normal commercial chains. We found this listing and glad we did. It's a little family restaurant that looks like a small home. Inside the plates and chairs don't match and has that warm feel of grandmas. The menu is plenty and made for breakfast and lunch. Omelettes and eggs, every pancake from French to Bohemian. Eggs Benedict and more. Everything was fresh made and ingredients and vegetables felt like they were just picked. Plenty of a portion to fill anyone in the group even kids meals with nice. Awesome tradition breakfast... other items for lunch as well, but I was looking for breakfast. I ordered a ham and cheese omelette , home fries and toast.... With a side of sausage gravy.. awesome, some of the best I've had in long time. Service was awesome, I had an iced tea, it never was empty! The staff was hustling and the owner/or manager was also working hard expediting food and making sure people had what they needed. This place was more locals than tourists. A few min drive from the beach, but we'll worth it. Came back next day got the same thing! read more

Today was our third visit here in as many years. My favorite breakfast place in the area by far. Seems to cater to an older crowd. I like that you can get what you want (e.g. eggs) without having to buy other things you don't want (potatoes, toast) Menu is pretty extensive. Portion sizes are healthy--I ordered one biscuit with gravy and it literally covered a whole dinner plate. Great coffee. Service was friendly, attentive, efficient and food was all great. Décor is very charming. Only 2 negatives were minor-I don't like salt grinders--it is too easy to oversalt and there are more heart patients in an older crowd. The other is the chlorine taste in their sodas (but not in the water per se.) So it must be in the carbonated containers they get from the vendor. But as far as quality of food, portion size, service and ambiance are concerned, you get more bang for the buck here than just about anywhere. Highly recommended. read more

We were camping at Myakka River State Park (if you want to see a lot of alligators close up that is the place) just East of Sarasota and hankerin' for breakfast. Millies was close and well regarded so we went on a Tuesday morning. The place is in a large shopping area and has plenty of parking. Inside it is charmingly decorated in a "ladies tea room" style and large but not cavernous, with two separate dining areas. We were seated immediately and drink orders were taken, then we ordered when the waitress delivered them, and they came promptly. In general the prices were moderate for the type of establishment it is. She had two cornmeal pancakes with real maple syrup and a side of link sausage. The cakes were huge - dinner plate size - and had excellent taste and texture, and the link sausages were a rightsized portion of flavorful moist sausage. The cakes came with two small (1-2 oz) jars of maple syrup which turned out to be insufficient so we ordered one more. It turned out they charged $1.87 each for these, so this must have been the most high-end maple syrup in Canada. I had a mushroom and cheese omelet with home fries and rye toast. the omelet was large and quite fluffy, and had abundant filling, with fresh not canned mushrooms and flavorful cheese. It was slightly dry though and I would order it moist next time. The plentiful home fries were a little dry as well (they must be trying to satisfy their "fat conscious" customer base but when I go out to breakfast that is not what I am looking for). In summing up, Millies had many more pluses than minuses and we would be happy to return. Probably the only reason I did not give it five stars is the way overpriced maple syrup - I would try to sneak my own in next time ;) . read more

Poor food quality. Hollandaise sauce appeared as though it were a powdered mix. Poached eggs were cooked nicely. Grits and biscuits were not desirable. Grits had poor texture and luke warm to cold temperature. Biscuits were reheated, dry, hard and crumbling; server offered another biscuit with the same reheated, dry, hard and crumbling. Coffee was watery. We went to Another Broken Egg after to eat a good breakfast. Suggested other nearby restaurants: C'est la Vie, First Watch or Another Broken Egg. read more
