I wasn't the biggest fan of the dirty chai. I was a bit put off by the bitterness of the chai. Wish I had just tried the coffee!! I will have to go back again. I loved how quiet it was and how nice it is inside. Even though everything is pretty dark inside (dark paint, black furniture) the giant windows make up for it and stream in plenty of sunshine and views of the river. Great place to grab a cup of your go to caffeine drank and catch up with your friends or favorite book!! This place is SO cool! The atmosphere is amazing and the view, overlooking the river, is one of a kind. I also learned why it is named Milltown! Interesting story!! The food is incredible!! Milltown is an absolute gem!!! Great food, fantastic environment, quick and polite service... I just can't get enough of this place! The second you walk in the door it has a modern, yet rustic comfortable feel. It is definitely set up perfectly for studying, working on your laptop, meeting with friends, or just hangin' out solo. Very open, yet you can find your own space to relax in. Oh, and I love, love, LOVE the big windows and natural light! The food is fantastic too. I had one of their bowls for brunch, and it tasted awesome, and it was definitely a healthy option too. The staff were prompt and very polite as well. Nothing missed the mark here for me. An epic coffee shop in the Quad Cities. It's very close to the WIU campus and proves itself as a nice place to study/read. The miel latte was simply heaven: very smooth and not too sweet. I also enjoyed a breakfast sandwich on grilled bread. My husband ordered the veggie burger (it was nearly noon), and it was so.good. It comes with a nice selection of fresh toppings. Aesthetic: Superb. Coffee: Pretty good. View: 10/10. Staff was nice enough but not like overly nice and welcoming and makes you want to come back. Kinda felt like they were understaffed and in a hurry, which isn't their fault at all. Maybe they need to be paid more. I feel like if businesses invested more in their employees, they would get more business and the cost would make up for itself. I personally don't come here often because it's not very welcoming. It's cold (not heartwarming like coffee should be) and the staff feels overworked and underpaid. They dont have many food options either, which makes me sad. Very nice. Great coffees... We tried the Bananas Foster coffee (I think it was a seasonal special... a light banana flavor, but not too much) and the Miel coffee (honey and cinnamon flavor... sweet but not overwhelmingly sweet). A small selection of sandwiches and salads. Spacious seating, with high ceilings, a warm looking fireplace section, and tables for groups. I could easily imagine this place packed with students from the University, but on the morning we went, there were only a few others. It took them a bit to have our sandwiches ready, but they were made fresh, so that worked fine for us. The view is lovely, looking out to the river and all the birds. I hope to return again soon for another yummy coffee and sandwich and to enjoy another lovely day. read more

This is The Place to come for coffee and a scone in the Quad Cities. The Illinois coffee shop has a beautiful view of the Mississippi River and is right off of the bike trail. This is now the official coffee stop for The Don't We Boys! in the Quad Cities! As traveling goofballs, we pride ourselves in our craft of comedy. Much like an artisan baker or butcher, we aim to chop up your belly with laughs. The artisan is often found in the coffee shop. When Joe Anderson gets his thumb in Yelp (as a consumer, not a reviewer, sadly), he is able to pluck out only the VERY BEST of coffee. You'll note from my opening video, that this is at least the TENTH beautifully-hip java building he's brought us to. The photos should also give you an idea of the beautiful space they've curated out of what appeared to be an old warehouse. Very high ceilings and the awesome combination of exposed brick and wood furniture on cement floor made for a pleasant open view of the whole room. And to the coffee--I was served a cappuccino outside of the rules: to-go. They are hardasses to most a wanderer, and they should be. I should have simply taken the traditional six-ounce pour into a ceramic, but I persuaded them to my folly. The cap that I drank was truly delicious, but sullied by a forgotten extra two ounces of foam poured to full my eight-ounce cardboard cup with asshole lid. Why didn't I heed their advice!?!? The barista did a stellar job--don't get me wrong. This was my error. This can be exemplified by Joe's review: "just as good as the best, and that includes Blue Bottle, Four Barrel and MadCap." Also be noted: Joe's follow up review came in the car after--not of the coffee. "I wish the food wasn't so good, so I could just be talking about how good the coffee was," to be followed shortly by: "it was the best sausage-based breakfast that I've ever had." I'd be inclined to agree, but I can't do that fully yet. Definitely 'Top 3' in my sausage-based breakfasts. To be clear: Joe and I split both the Cajun Sausage Wrap and the Potato, Ham & Egg Frittata. We're sick bastards who love sharing and tasting as much as we can, whenever we can. I came to Milltown Coffee for a meeting with some friends and...WOW! A+ A+ First of all, the atmosphere, aura, fireplace, kindness of employees, etc...gives you a great feeling when you come in. The barista recommended their most popular latte with almond milk, so I went for it and it was delicious. After our meeting, towards the end of the closing day, a cool staff member came out and offered all of us a slice of a new dessert he was baking for the holiday. It was an Apple Butter gingerbread, and it was INSANE. :-) Then he came out and gave us seconds...just to be nice. First off, I will admit that I am a coffee snob (if that means anything to you while you read this review). For a coffee shop in the QC, Milltown is among the best. Atmosphere - awesome. It's large so there's always a place to sit, and it's spread out and quiet enough to get work done, or have a conversation with a friend. It has huge windows that overlook the Mississippi River. Coffee - they have more options than most in the QC. If you like pour overs like me, you're gonna be fine here! They've got V60 and Chemex (I don't think other shops in the QC even know what those are). Espresso drinks are good and fairly priced too. My drink of choice right now is just a cappuccino and they get their ratios just about perfect (espresso, milk, foamed milk, etc.) Service - you shouldn't have any problems here. I love Milltown! It is a warm and inviting space, sometimes there's live music/open mic night, but it is always comfortable. The views out of the huge windows in the winter when the Mighty Mississippi has ice floating about are breathtaking. Their offerings are varied and delicious. The standards of coffee drinks, cocoa and tea are complemented by a delicious assortment of craft beer. Their food selection is not huge but everything I've had, I've enjoyed. The wifi is sometimes a little wonky, but ask and they are always happy to reset the magic internet box for you. read more

Stopped here while driving through because of the yelp rating. Placed was packed with lots of locals. Ordered two pour overs, a gluten free cookie and a bagel. After waiting 10-15 min and getting back on the road I discovered that the coffee was terrible. Maybe I am a coffee snob but it was worse than drive thru fast food coffee. The bagel was so stale you would risk loosing teeth to try and eat it. So I threw the coffees and the bagels away and stopped somewhere else in the area that actually had good coffee. read more

Pros: 1. The coffee was really good and the appearance was spot on. They even do a 6oz cappuccino! 2. Ambiance is excellent. It is a modern open style which is what I prefer for coffee spots. They also had a few comfy chairs/couches for lounging. Plenty of seating. 3. They have a few pastries on hand. We had the cinnamon roll which was very good. Cream cheese frosting with just enough cinnamon in my opinion. They also have scones. 4. They serve sandwiches and salads as well. Look forward to going back in the future to give these a try. 5. They are located right along the Mississippi River, which would be a great summer local. Unfortunately we were there in the late fall and it was too windy and cold to take full advantage of the river walk across the street. Cons: None! read more

Four stars--we were here last week when I was in the QC for business Food: 3 stars Coffee: 3 stars Service: 3.5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars First the food--your options are pretty limited, and in fairness we only came for breakfast. The breakfast sandwiches and wraps they have are not bad--better than fast food--but pretty basic like fast food tends to be. Sausage wrap had just eggs, cheese, and sausage, which is fine but could definitely use more ingredients given that the sausage (and there's a ton of it) is pretty spicy. We had a couple of cappuccinos, a latte, espresso (which the barista pronounced "expresso") and a regular coffee here. The expresso in particular was pretty bad--lukewarm when it arrived, and kind of sour and bitter, which are the two things you want to avoid when pulling shots. Could be the coffee, the grind, or just the way they do it. The regular coffee was otherwise unremarkable. The service is fine--friendly enough and responsive, but pretty slow. There always seems to be a line to the register and never more than one or two people behind the counter. But the ambience and cafe itself is really lovely! Nice big room, pretty quiet, exposed brick and big windows overlooking the Mississippi. So if you're looking for a place to park with your laptop and get work done (as many people were doing here) this is the best bet we could find in the QC area. This was a great place to stop off for coffee on our trip! They are located right by the river, and their big open room with huge windows gave us a great view of the water. They have a good selection of coffee drinks, pastries, and food items. We were there for breakfast and I had the bagel sandwich. Everything was made very fresh, and although it took a little longer for our food to come out, I feel as though was worth it. The only small downside (and the only reason I gave it 4 stars) was the lack of a changing table in either restroom for our son. Highest quality coffee and espresso that the QC has seen, not to mention the other drinks and food offered. The staff is friendly and the ambience cannot be matched. All of their syrups for their lattes are homemade and their food is simple, yet unique and tastes incredible. The honey used in the popular Miels and gluten free almond flour cookies is even locally produced less than an hour away. Milltown uses the best products and even has a Progenex protein shake for all of the athletes in the area. The coffee and espresso Milltown uses is roasted at their sister store 30/30 in Peoria, and is organic and fair trade. If you're in the Quad Cities Milltown is a must! read more

The coffee is quality. Most of it is pour over style, which is nice. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. On one of my visits, I had some scrambled eggs for breakfast and they were great. The best part of Milltown is the facility. It's clean, spacious, beautiful, and full of big windows with a great view of the Mississippi River. A downside is the temperature. It's usually too cold, proabably because of how big the room is and it's many windows. Another downside is the feel of the place is...industrial. I wish they had some local art, photographs, or something along those lines to make it feel more organic. read more

The few low reviews that Milltown received are just silly. I can't speak to the food since I haven't eaten there, but as to the environment and service ever being "cold" or "condescending", it is completely the opposite. My fiancé did not enjoy her chai, and took it back calmly and they gladly got her a different latte, then upped the ante by giving us a free blueberry scone which was delicious! It has a beautiful view of the river, and they genius-ly transformed an empty building into a warm industrial setting. The coffee is solid, by no means the better coffee in my experience, but definitely a potential #2 to Redband in the QC. It's a great place to go sip a latte and a read after enjoying an enlightening walk by the river. They are still in their baby phase and I think Milltown will only get better as time passes. read more

The coffee is VERY GOOD. I gave two stars for things other than their coffee. The coffee is definitely good. It is also definitely over priced. Too expensive for me, but I am a broke millennial, so what can you do? The food is over priced and cooked in a toaster oven. It is prepared LONG before you eat it. It isn't terrible, by any means. Still tasty. Also, I sat at a table close to the register and witnessed multiple(older) customers who had no idea what a pour over was have it explained to them in a very condescending way. Maybe that is a customer service thing they have fixed? Views are amazing. I wish it was cozier/homier. TOTALLY a personal opinion- I felt like I was in a hospital the whole time.
