This was our 2nd time at Millwright's - this time we came with another couple instead of just my husband and I. And it did not disappoint!! We had an excellent meal (per usual) - the tasting menu was varied and interesting and the chef catered to my annoying gluten and nut allergies without any issue. All the proteins were cooked to perfection and the flavor profiles of each dish were really well balanced and beautifully executed. But by far, the star of the show for now the second time was Ron, our waiter. He is such a class act; witty, charismatic, attentive, kind. He's all the things I wish you could teach people how to be, not only the industry, but also just in life. So hats off, for the second time, to Ron. Hands down the best brunch spot yet! I wanted to check this place out after seeing pictures and such great reviews and am so glad I did! I mean I have zero complaints and yet so much to rave about! Service was top notch, ambiance was perfect, (bonus sitting by the waterfall) and food was exquisite! (yum) The cinnamon French toast was to die for! The best French toast I've had for sure with the perfect amount of sweetness. The millwright breakfast was a great choice for those who are indecisive like myself. I really enjoyed dinner here. Okay to start with as far as COVID safety. All staff were wearing masks and hand sanitizer was readily available. I will say though, if you are a person that isn't fully comfortable being at a restaurant with a lot of people, this may not be for you. Even though we were all 6 ft apart, it was a full dining area. So I mean gauge it for yourself. There are two menu options: 4 course prefix or 7 course by Chef Tyler. Chef Tyler (featured on Top Chef and previous winner of Chopped) is the head chef here so if courseeeeeee I went with the 7 course. Ugh I really should've taken pictures! I was nervous at first because I can't eat dairy but the kitchen was so accommodating, I really appreciated it! Another thing to note, the service was SO KIND. The sisters made sure we were comfortable and enjoyed are night. From small talk to treating us with care, they were perfect. Back to the meal, from start to finish they were very interesting meets incredibly delicious. The pan seared scallops served with sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts were tied with the artichoke salad as my favorite. I literally could've eaten those small plates serval times over lol the portions here are equivalent to those that you see on shows like Chopped, so prepare yourself for that. We booked a outdoor table for two, very safe for covid, we had our own little room facing the waterfall. Two types of heaters and very little direct contact with anyone. Additionally everyone was wearing masks, face shields, and gloves, so we felt extremely safe. The food was delicious. We did the brunch tasting menu. French toast was the real star! I had the lobster crab cake Benedict and my husband had short rib and eggs. If you need help choosing- go with the short rib and/or the French toast. They were our favorites!! It was our first time here... we decided to go for our anniversary dinner. This place was outstanding from the time we walked in. We were greeted and sat right away in what looked to be the nicest table with a view in the dining room. Mind you we didn't have reservations either, but they wanted to accommodate us for our special occasion. The service was excellent as was the food. Everything was prepared to our liking, the drinks and sides were brought to the table promptly. The interior of the building is very unique dating back to 1680 and tells the story when you walk in. We had an 8 PM reservation to celebrate our 42nd anniversary. We arrived about 10 minutes early and were seated promptly. We were given a flute of champagne and sparkling cider (my wife doesn't drink) for a celebratory toast - a very nice gesture on the restaurant's part. We ordered the charcuterie plate to start, my wife ordered the scallops in Tom Kha broth, and I ordered the lamb loin. The lamb seemed a little under-seasoned, but aside that everything was fantastic. Our server Rebekah was very attentive. We would definitely return. read more

It was everything you could ask for in a take out meal. It offered generous portions of perfectly picked buttery lobster meat that overfilled the Brioche rolls. The lobster bisque had a wonderful flavor profile and perfect consistency. This week's takeout culinary adventure was a perfectly prepared fried chicken dinner. This meal was fully heated and ready to eat. The chicken pieces (pictured) were fried and seasoned as stated earlier..perfectly. It can easily feed a family of four or more. The meal also came with your choice of three sides, buttery biscuits and brownies/blondes. We selected the Grilled Broccoli, Mac & Cheese and Cole Slaw, which offered the perfect balance to the fried chicken. Regarding concerns on social distancing. The takeout transaction was void of any human contact. You place and pay for your order online via their website. When you arrive the restaurant utilizes a Ring doorbell and they assign a numbered parking spot. Simply pop the trunk and let them load your order directly into your car, without any contact. Millwright's has been on my list for YEARS, so I thought graduating with my MBA was the perfect occasion to try it. I was thrilled to see head chef and CT restauranteur Tyler Anderson on Top Chef a few years back and I've been vying to eat here ever since! We had the four course prix fixe menu starting with his signature dish - the clam chowder tapioca - and salmon crudo. Both phenomenal, and that's coming from a tapioca hater. Next, we both got the sunchoke bisque with the herbed crostini, which was delightfully light and packed with flavor. For the entrées we went with the orecchiette that came with a shiitake and truffle purée, and the NY strip with creamed spinach. I can without a doubt say that was the best steak I've ever had! For dessert we got the honey cake with toasted meringue and the raspberry semi freddo that came with a chocolate macaron. The kitchen so sweetly included a little congratulations message for me. I've been wanting to go here forever and I finally made the trek. I needed a special place to take my daughter who had just received her masters degree. Millwrights definitely didn't disappoint. The food was incredibly flavorful, and delightfully prepared. I had the NY Strip and it was perfectly prepared. I have nothing but good things to say about my experience there. Let me start out by saying that the food was absolutely delicious, however, the service was lacking. It seemed like they were overbooked for the night and wanted to get us out ASAP. All of the food and drinks came out extremely fast, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. However, when we tried to order an appetizer, our server actually highly recommended that we NOT get the appetizer because the entree came with free cornbread? Okay.... Odd. Trying to save us a buck? So we skipped the appetizer and ordered our entrees. When we finished our meals, the server never asked whether we wanted coffee, tea, etc. and rushed out the dessert. We booked a reservation for a "special occasion" (birthday) and although we heard that we would get two free glasses of champagne for the occasion, we never did. The dessert was absolutely delicious, as were our entrees. I can't complain about the food. I've been wanting to dine here for a while now and we thought Valentine's Day would be the perfect opportunity to finally try this award-winning restaurant. They had a Prix-Fixe menu for the holiday weekend and Chef Tyler Anderson and his team definitely served up some of the most beautiful and delicious dishes including: Truffle Toast, Tuna Tartare, Sundried Tomato Hummus, Seared Salmon, New York Strip and a Chocolate & Strawberry Heart. I'm being generous with 3 stars based on our experience. We were so looking forward to this meal / event. The Hartford Courant named it best restaurant in the County and reviews and word of mouth built out expectations. My fiancé birthday is 2/14 so we made a reservation here for their prefix Valentines deal. I spoke with the hostess about seating locations as I wanted something romantic and she recommended sitting in a private pod on the bridge. Sounds neat! I asked about heating and she said they're heated - cool! I called the day before to confirm and they said to "wear layers". I said I thought those pods are heated she said they are, but walking there and if we have to use the restroom we will be outside - I get it and can absolutely deal with that! We arrived early for our reservation and they seated us right away. Cute rustic feel inside and out back is really nice with a waterfall, nature, and all these private eating booths. Some wooden, others like a mini green house. We had the latter and the privacy and location was perfect. We walk in to be seated and it was chilly. It was a very cold day (teens) so we were still bundled. I asked about the heat and he said they are heated but only get 30-40 degrees warmer than outside. I looked at my phone and it was 17 out so simple math said it will be 47-57? Thinking a normal restaurant would be 70-72 inside. NOT what I signed up for! In 2 prior conversations I was told they are heated. They aren't lying but I guess "being heated" and warm are two different things! I asked for indoor seating, but they were completely booked. So, we settled in, put on some classic 70's on my phone and made the best of it. A couple servers complimented the music and choice. She had a martini, and I had a beer (but wanted hot chocolate!). They served honey cornbread which was different and good. We started with shrimp cocktail (a la carte) and they were excellent! Jumbo, firm, cold and good cocktail sauce. We both loved them! Onto the pre-fixe; I started with short rib medley, and she had Ahi tar tar. We both liked the short ribs better. Next we both had chicken dumplings which was a small bowl with chicken, lots of gnocchi and some carrots. The chicken was good reminded me of chicken soup. But there was more gnocchi than anything else and not my favorite or anything to be excited about. We both had the NY strip with creamy peppercorn and it missed. Small, barely served warm and while tender not juicy. We thought the steak was cold because the server walks outside to serve but the potatoes were hot a little odd. There's a French restaurant we like and they serve all entrees in a covered platter and then remove the plate at your table. They should employ this process here to keep the food warm while walking outside in the Winter. Note that every time a server came in, and there was a team of them (and they were very good) they'd open the door to our pod and freezing air would come in. It seemed every time we started to warm up from the heat the door would open! And like I said it was a bitter cold night. We were both underwhelmed by the food and didn't enjoy sitting in the cold. We nicely shared that with our server and he took $40 off our bill. Super nice! I had initially ordered a beer they were out of so had to order a 2nd one. Both remained on the bill (had just 1 beer) but I didn't mention is because he had comped us $40. We got our dessert to go and with tip after the comp our bill was $280. We checked out the other couples as we left and at least 3/4 wore their winter coats while eating in those cute private outdoor booths. I'm not sure who enjoys wearing winter coats while fine dining but we don't. Perhaps on a 75 degree day with their regular menu it might have been a better experience but we won't be back. J Gilbert's in Glastonbury is 1/2 the price with real steaks (grilled, hot and juicy), better sides and heat. Our original reservation was at Ruth's Chris where we've gone prior years and even though a chain is a MUCH better meal, with like service for the same $. 3 stars was very generous, but the service was great, shrimp cocktail delicious and the privacy was a neat (cold) experience! read more

This was my third visit - and I have to tell you this restaurant does not disappoint. Although it started to get chilly, we sat outside overlooking the waterfall, listening to the water crash and the world around us. The atmosphere would be enough to satisfy! The food is always outstanding! The menu is diverse and covers a wide range of styles. Personally, I enjoyed the foie gras app and duck while my wife enjoyed a bit lighter fare with oysters and scallops. The flavors were ridiculous, subtly nuanced and delicious. Desserts were spectacular!! I may not be the norm but I rate service just as high in importance as the food and last nights servers were friendly, happy and professional. To say the service was impeccable would be an understatement. Our server was attentive, personable, and knew her stuff. Her teammates were all working with her to ensure nothing short of perfection. Seated in tavern downstairs-Anthony our waiter was awesome, great ambiance in an old mill next to the river. Food was good.

Had a reservation for a Sunday night. Water was brought after 10 mins of waiting, the glasses had soap in them. The waitress did not apologize she merely grabbed different glasses and repoured. We ordered drinks and 2 Caesar salads. Drinks came in 10 mins but salads didn't, we then added an appetizer. The appetizer took 10 more mins but no salads still, when we asked the waitress looked at her notes and remembered. After this incident the waitress had a young male bus boy or some other title come and clear and bring our items. She never came back to ask if the food was good or if we needed refills so we ended up drinking water for the rest of the meal. After we were cleared She took 15 mins to come take our dessert order. This was the worst service especially for a special occasion. Many opportunities were missed for upsetting as well and the water filled us so that we ended up ordering less desserts. Unfortunately the prices are high so it was a hefty tip regardless, otherwise we would not have given so much. Also, she didn't even comp one of the salads or give a discount for her mistake. Wish I knew her name. Short in height, long dark hair in a pony tail, the young male was very professional and did most of the work. The waitress was even seen dropping a plate and breaking it. She is not representing your establishment very well, and the 2 ladies at the host area didn't even thank us when we left. Tonight, I was wowed. It took us a while but we finally made it to this restaurant. We love dining out, and tonight for my B'day my husband scored big time introducing me to this goodness. I love the location, decor and feel of the place. Beautifully rustic with exposed original beams all the way to the peak, the chairs are solid with tall backs where one can sit like a true guest for this incredible experience. Once inside you can't help but feel special. I prepared myself for big plates with a small amount of pretty looking food and a hefty price tag. BUT! Man ohh man was I wrong... This was not the case. The plates were large, the food was very pretty, but also filling. The chef plates just the right amount. Let's say I can eat and I left satisfied. Our waiter Ron was amazing, he knew his s**t!!!! He was knowledgeable, confident, great humor, polite but firm with quick answers and details about each dish, and may I add Handsome. I questioned the bass, salmon and scallops, and he quickly placed them in an order of 1,2 and 3. I ordered scallops, hubby had quail, son had steak and our daughter had chicken. All dishes were outstanding!!!!! Ohhh, and for appetizers I had beef tartare and I could have licked my plate, hubby had foie gras and said it was the best he ever had. Desserts were also very good. Delicious meal for a special occasion! I went to Millwright's to celebrate a career achievement in a party of three. Parking was easy in their lot. We were seated in the main dining room overlooking the River which was very scenic, although to no fault of their own the view is a little damaged by the neighboring apartment complex. The server brought by complimentary champagne glasses because the reservation was booked as a special occasion, which was a lovely touch! The table participated in the tasting menu, which I highly recommend. Each dish was flavorful and nicely balanced in terms of heaviness, fish/vegetables, and meats. Despite being only four courses, I was extremely full at the end and had to box the final course and the dessert! Highly recommend for the indecisive who want to celebrate! read more

Went here recently to celebrate my husband's birthday after hearing from several friends how excellent the restaurant was. I made a reservation online about a week in advance for 5pm on a Saturday because 530 wasn't available but I called the restaurant and they were able to move my reservation to 530! The hostesses up front were friendly and seated us promptly. The setting of the restaurant is very nice with rustic elements. Our server was Ron who was excellent- friendly and efficient but not in a pushy way. We opted to do the tasting menu with wine pairing. They ask that you expect the tasting to take around 2 hours or so, we were going to a show at the Bushnell that started at 8 and mentioned to this to Ron and he made sure to keep things moving. To start he brought us each a glass of cava as a welcome and to start my hubbys bday off right. This was our first real date night since our son was born 15 months ago! I was happy to indulge :) We were brought bread and a sesame butter- the butter was amazing. They brought us only one piece of bread each which some may frown upon but I think it was just right with an upcoming tasting menu. I'm sure if we had asked for more they would've brought it though- I should've asked for some of that butter to bring home- oh well, next time! The tasting menu was pretty good- all dishes were tasty but of course some stood out above the rest. My favorite dish was the tapioca custard dish, Chef Anderson's signature- super nice textures and great flavors! I also really liked the foie gras- I generally don't eat foie gras but since we were doing the tasting we had to keep the dishes the same for the table and my husband likes it so I went for it after Ron said it was a great dish and he was right- SO good! The squash dish was also nice and tasty- unique want to present the squash in rings. We were running late for our show so the staff packaged up our desserts for us so we could get out on time! At the end of the tasting I was full and definitely feeling the wine a bit- I think in hindsight maybe I wouldn't do the tasting, can't drink like I used to! The server told us it was only about 2.5 glasses of wine at the end but I think it was definitely more, those were some strong pours :) Overall a great meal and experience, wish we didn't have to run out at the end because the ambiance after sunset was even nicer in the full dining room. What more can I say! The baby had not arrived so we took the opportunity to sneak out, again, just a week later for more delicious food and wonderful service! Tyler (Ty) had helped last time and was our main server this time! Like last time, he was super sweet, helpful, knowledgeable, and warm! He even remembered us and helped us get the cheesecake deconstructed, again! My husband went after the same burger but I tried the fish and chips! Boy, that did not disappoint! The batter is amazing and crispy without being at all oily. I just did a special dinner here for my mother's birthday and we could not have been more thrilled and impressed with our experience. We used the private room and booked with Ashley, who was responsive, patient and very helpful every step of the way. The setting is lovely, a perfect combination of rustic and classy, overlooking a waterfall. Every bite of food was exceptional, from the passed appetizers to the chicken & gnocchi appetizer. The scallop dish with the thai flavors was the best thing I have eaten in the last 5 years. Such a delicious balance of flavors. We also loved the Salmon and the Short Ribs. The desserts were special too, creme caramel was beautiful and a special take on a classic dessert. I must also complement the staff and team that served us.
