I luckily scootered from my apartment, but you can walk, lyft/uber, or even take the hop! Quick in and out, and the trains are amazing and spacious. Easy station to navigate. There is a lot of seating in the waiting area. Signage for Amtrak is simple. There's a cafe to get food / snacks / drinks/ coffee / donuts for the ride. I use this to get back and forth between Milwaukee and Madison via Badger Coach. It's in a good location dwntwn. However beware the bathrooms were disgusting already at 9 in the morning on a Wednesday at this station. I understand it is a high traffic building for obvious reasons, but come on. There is an over priced snack/drink store, and many vending machines, that didn't have much in them. If you don't have to be in the actual building itself, I would avoid it. read more

I come here a lot to take the bus to ohare or the train to chicago. It's always extremely reliable, the staff is helpful, the sitting area is kept relatively maintained. I also appreciate that The Hop is right out the doors across the street too. All in all, a decent, expected experience. read more

This station is pretty great. I know they have Amtrak and Greyhound, and as far as Greyhound stations go, it's a fine spot. I once had a Greyhound delay, and their employees gave me no options - an intermodal worker, I think a custodian, took it upon himself to let me know that an Amtrak thruway bus would get me to my destination sooner. Appreciated that a ton. They do a good job of keeping beggars out, and they keep the place clean. Their dining spot has a new-ish owner, after being closed for some time, so it's nice to see that running again. They also have a phone charging station now, which is much appreciated. My gripe is that the sound of the Greyhound announcements is awful. It is so difficult to hear what they are saying most of the time. More than Greyhound busses dock there, and some drivers come in to actually announce where to line up. Also, as great as they keep the place clean, the bathrooms are very large, and they block people from entering while cleaning is taking place. That is a long delay for someone seeking to use the restroom before boarding when not much time is available. read more

This station's pretty smooth. It's both a train stain and a bus station, serving Amtrak, Greyhound, Flixbus, Badger Bus, and I believe others. Amtrak can take you down to Chicago in 90 minutes on either the Hiawatha or the Borealis, or out to Minneapolis, as well as other routes. The Hop streetcar is very, very close, which will take you into the city for free. Overall it's a great station, I'm really only keeping a star off because it's a fairly new building, not a cool old train station with architecture and history. read more

Took a trip from Milwaukee to La Crosse for the first time since the pandemic. A ticketing mixup meant I that I ended up with a wheelchair accessible room instead of a regular seat (I accidentally booked a seat on a bus which obviously wasn't wheelchair accessible). Too expensive for such a short trip, but it was either that or wait three days to go home, which I couldn't do. The room was small but nice and actually well designed.The staff was attentive and nice. The food, which was included with the ticket was better than I expected. If I ever take a longer trip on Amtrak, I would definitely consider one of these rooms (on purpose this time). read more

Get new bus drivers. The bus driver for bus 58 seen my ticket and my name on the itinerary and was trying to give me a tough time saying it's my fault my train was late to pick me up. Train 339 from Chicago actually had friendly service despite all the delays. My honest opinion don't get connected trips through the Amtrak app. They'll have you on the phone with customer service not being helpful whatsoever for an hour for something you'll end up being able to solve yourself on the train/bus if you're lucky. read more

The Amtrak Station is always such a seamless experience for me. I genuinely show up 5 minutes before the train leaves and walk right on. There is only one "gate" to cross through to the platform, so never any confusion. The station itself is very modern, light, bright, and clean. Plenty of comfortable seating if you find yourself needing to wait for a train or bus. There are vending machines in addition to the small cafe available for food, drinks, smoothies, and snacks. The ticket counter is always open for information and purchases as well so head there with any Qs. I oddly love taking the train (most often to Chicago, just as I did this time), so I look forward to passing through this station. read more

I've traveled through my fair share of Amtrak stations over the years, and Intermodal Station is conveniently located, clean, has lot of natural light, and seems efficiently run. I traveled via Amtrak from Chicago to Milwaukee and back. The trains ran on time, which is honestly the biggest deal to me. After having been stuck at the Amtrak station in Albany, NY on more than one occasion (typically, on my way to Boston) for 4+ hours? Having the trains kept to an effective schedule is a big deal to me. Folks waiting for a bus tend to sit on one side of the station, while folks waiting for their train tend to sit on the other... just out of convenience to the pick-up location around the station. Boarding for the trains is an organized experience. I didn't drive to or from Intermodal Station given that I was only in Milwaukee for 2 days. Parking in the station lot itself is somewhat minimal - and there's a cost, of course. I just found it most convenient to take a Lyft from / back to the station... but in terms of dropoff if you do take something like Uber or Lyft? You basically get dropped off right at the door to the station. It's very easy. TL;DR Would definitely take an Amtrak to or from Intermodal Station when back in the area - very pleasant experience. Bonus points for the reliable WiFi on the train as well. read more

This is a perfectly servicable train station. It's clean with a few restaurant stalls, vending machines, and shops inside. The signage isn't great, and the Amtrak service desk was empty in the middle of the day. The drop off lane out front is a nightmare, and the way that they organize boarding of the trains is really disorganized and crowded. But, I appreciate that it was clean with plenty of seating and bathrooms. read more

What a perfectly pleasant experience! Came here for my very first train ride to Chicago. By 'very first train ride,' I mean, I've never actually been on a train. Unless you count Mendocino County's historic Skunk Train in Northern California or Yosemite's Sugar Pine Railroad. Which are both scenic journeys, not meant for actually traveling to a destination. So, they don't really count. And, of course I've been on subways. But, that's a bird of a different feather. A little unsure how it all worked (where to board, who to give my ticket to etc), I approached the counter. The worker was very friendly and readily helpful. For newbies like me, you simply line up when your train is called (or just before, if you notice a crowd of people beginning to assemble) and hop aboard the train. An attendant will scan your ticket during your journey (not prior). The Milwaukee Intermodal Station is bright and clean. Huge atrium-like windows surround the waiting area, which allows for a ton of natural light and lends a feeling of vastness. So, while not a very large station, it doesn't feel the slightest bit cramped. Everything was clean and the boarding process was orderly. My first train ride has been officially accomplished and I can honestly say it will be the first of many. Get to it! read more

This Amtrak station is really nice when compared to others. It's clean, offers free WIFI (use the Greyhound signal) and has ample seating. The All Aboard cafe is really nice with freshly made meals (burgers, salads, chicken wraps). I also like the glass architecture that lets in natural sunlight. This is not the first time I've used Amtrak - in the past, horrible horrible service and delayed service, however, based on the last experience, Amtrak was great. Please note, I just took the train from Chicago to Milwaukee then back from Milwaukee to Chicago. It was only a 1 1/2 hour ride between the two cities. The train was very clean so no complaints regarding the train. The Milwaukee's Amtrak and Grayhound Bus share the same building. The building is very modern with it's large waiting area, vending area and informational area. Since I had printed my ticket I didn't have any customer service interaction. I do appreciate the facelift, but the sad fact is that there is just not much here. In general, this is a very utilitarian train station. Abu's (which is great!) is about all this place has going for itself. The station is generally clean and the staff seems OK but I could do without the sketchy panhandlers that seem to always be hanging around outside. I do appreciate the $8 daily parking rate, perfect for a quick day trip to Chicago, but the lot has ZERO security. It's sad to lament how far train travel has fallen in our country. Milwaukee used to have two beautiful train stations. Now this is all we have. I suppose it's better than nothing. I do love a good train ride! read more

I take the Amtrak from here to Chicago semi-regularly, and it serves its purpose. It's a gorgeous station, with really high floor-to-ceiling windows to let in lots of light. It can be a bit hard to find if you're coming from the highway, as there's a few highways that junction right near the exit, and then you have quite a few turns once you get off the highway. Traffic also backs up really badly in the short drive out front (some of that is due to people not paying attention/having common courtesy). I've always purchased tickets online, so I can't speak to the customer service. The cafe and store are nice, prices are too high and they've got a good variety. Boarding was confusing the first time, they never seem to really announce the Hiawatha train, you just see people start to line up by the train loading door. It's kind of a free-for-all for getting in line, so I've seen people sort of sneak around others to get a better spot. That's not really the station's fault, but just a bit annoying. It's not a huge station, which is nice because it's easy to find what you need. It's hard to tell if they have Wi-Fi; I've tried to find an open signal many times and couldn't find a consistent one. I came to Milwaukee intermodal station by bus, to catch a train to Sturtevant. The intermodal station is perfect. I hardly had 15 minutes for my transfer, but I was able to join the line and board the train in time. Plus the Amtrak train started on dot, which is amazing because the Chicago-Champaign Amtrak train is always 30 minutes late. Anyway, the intermodal station was a pleasant experience. It's small but looks spacious because of the huge windows. Most importantly, it's super clean. The women's restrooms are large, with huge mirrors and sparkly clean as well. read more

Theres nothing more fun than taking the Amtrak to Milwaukee on a weekday. I mean, for $50 round trip you have a fuss-free trip to the big city. So freaking fun. Recently a friend and I made the trip in to see the Museum of Science and Industry. We had a great trip. Here's why: --Inexpensive parking. Day parking across from the Intermodal is $7 for 24 hours. Compare that to the $1.50 per hour that the city charges for metered parking. It's a great deal. --Bring your own. Get the party started by bringing your own snacks, drinks, and if you'd like, alcohol. There is no train car service, but Aladdins has a food stand in the intermodal and features Colectivo Coffee. What a treat! --Architechture. The Intermodal is stunningly beautiful, full of light, clean, crisp and modern. A far cry from the dismal, dingy bus stations I remember from my college days. --Bus. Yes you heard right. This is a train and bus station combined. Cool! --Free wifi. The Amtraks have free wifi, charging plugs for your tech, and a quiet car too. --Enjoy the ride. It's a fun and scenic trip by train. So much fun! read more

Love riding the train, especially down to Chicago! It is a painless way to travel to our sister city, as you can relax and read or nap instead of dealing with Chicago traffic. Make sure you arrive with some time to spare before the departure time, because this train is on a schedule and sticking to it. I appreciate knowing that I can count on their timeliness for plans. I also like that they have a quiet car, for those who aren't interested in hearing their neighbors plans for their weekend or complaints about life. It's also great to have an exit basically leading directly to the station off of 94. They do have a parking lot, just make sure you buy the appropriate amount of time or they will ticket you - because you prepay when you park your car. read more

If you're coming from CHI, flip it up, switch it, and reverse it. The station's clean, open, and bright, and the staff has always been kind and helpful, in my experience. I ride the Hiawatha to Chicago regularly for work and appreciate the convenience. I don't have to fight traffic or pay for parking (parking is beyond exorbitant in Chicago!). The station is freshly remodeled and clean and bright. There is free Wifi, a big bonus! Also, if you love the Alaeddin stand at the Public Market, they run the All-Aboard Cafe here. Tip - use the kiosks to buy tickets, way faster than waiting at the counter. Also, the 8am train is packed with moms, girls and grannies headed to the American Girl store. That can be a plus or minus, depending on your mindset. read more

Today was Amtraks national train day so I thought I would take the Amtrak to Chicagos Union station and make a day of it. First off this is a 200 mile round trip. This is a relaxing way to get to Chicago with out the traffic and parking hassles for which Chicago is known for and trust me because I spent the first 2/3 of my life living there. I do love train travel but since 9/11 Amtrak just like the air port you can't explore the station completely even if you have a ticket. I wanted to take pictures of the trains and I was quickly shut down by Amtrak employees even on national train day. Even though you can see all the platforms you can't get access for picture taking. This is still the best way to return Chicago for visits. read more

So convenient, this is where the Amtrak Hiawatha arrives from Chicago-Glenview-MKE, and the main Greyhound terminal. But you can also always find taxis, it's right next to a major Milwaukee County bus line and walking distance to a couple more, right next to the MegaBus and Badger Bus stops, in nice weather walking distance to the Milwaukee Art Museum. There's safe bicycle parking, and you're a stone's throw (well if you have a pretty good arm) from a Stone Creek Coffee shop (which is better than the coffee shop in the Intermodal Station). The Amtrak workers here are so much nicer and more helpful than the ones in Chicago's Union Station for some reason. read more

Not much to say 1) Punctual Service between Chicago Union Station and Milwaukee Intermodal. 2) Easy to walk from the Intermodal Station to Third Ward/Downtown. All else fails, hail a cab. 3) 22 Dollars for a one way trip isn't breaking the bank, plus a lot of companies or organizations subsidize your public transportation, woo hoo. 4) Nice comfy wide chairs with clean bathrooms in each car. 5) Dedicated "Quiet Car" in the rear. 6) Free Wifi 7) Unreserved coach seating. Mixed blessing, I guess. 8) Fairly homogenous travelers if you're traveling during rush hour; mainly commuters who are also trying to get work done before or after their work at the office. 9) Friendly food man pushes cart down the aisle every 10 minutes or so. 10) As "express" as it gets between CHI and MKE: Union Station, Glenview, Sturtevant, General Mitchell Airport (another plus), and MKE Intermodal. read more

Cons: Filthy train exterior and windows. Couldn't have been worse in a 4th world country (whatever that would be). Old cars, somewhat sleazy. Chicago station had drapes that were a couple feet too long hanging all over the floor on the lounge windows. Relatively slow train (1 1/2 half hour to Chicago). Many Americans love to think their country is the best in the world. They haven't traveled much. I have taken trains in Russia, Europe and South America. I went to Chicago recently and had time for breakfast before. It was my first train trip (and I'm in my mid-thirties for sure, but you have to start somewhere) but it was pleasant. This is a pretty pleasant station, all things considered. Among those things, there's the fact that it seems like this place has become too small for the volume of passengers, especially when you have train and bus departures too close to each other. You can buy your Amtrak tickets online or at the counter at the station. My advice is to arrive at least a half hour before (or more if you are planning to buy tickets there), since people start lining up for their trains at least some 20 minutes before departure time. There is a cafeteria, some vending machines, an ATM, and bathrooms that of course, are not nearly as nice as the ones you may find nearby, but for a train/bus station are passable. This station is where you catch: Amtrak, Greyhound, BadgerBus, MegaBus, and CoachUSA to O'Hare/Midway. There is a lovely Stone Creek a few steps away, where you can refuel (and grab a cookie to go!) before your journey. Walking distance to the Milwaukee Public Market. The new station is great. It's clean and bright, plus there are some amenities like free WiFi, and bike parking (1 locker for 2 separate bikes +bike racks). Bus #57 stops right in front of the station and there are several other bus routes within a few blocks. There are always taxis standing by and there are several parking lots surrounding the station. One of the security guards came around and asked everyone to see their tickets, I assume an effort to keep away rif raf. There were a plethora of vending machines for food drinks and other necessities such as times and pain relievers... since I was there on a Sunday there wasn't much else open in the area in terms of shops. Who knew that the month of December would have me trekking via Amtrak from Chicago to Milwaukee not once...but twice!? For being a route virgin, this seems quite odd...but either way, I will insist there is no better way to "fly" between MKE and CHI. Trip #1: Easy daytrip to Milwaukee. Board at Union Station in Chicago early AM, exit at this station in Milwaukee. About 1h15m each way. Clean, comfortable, lots of room, easy laptop workability (no outlets though), bathrooms on board...very much preferred to a tightly cramped plane, and no need to be anywhere 2 hours early or fight traffic to the airports! (runs about 6x daily). Trip #2. Stranded in (of all place) Baltimore, MD. No flights to Chicago for TWO DAYS past our intended day of departure. So, solution...fly to Milwaukee (direct, holla) and take the Amtrak from Mitchell Airport to Union Station. Again, quick/easy, though a bit more crowded heading into NYE. Still, quite comfortable...and we got home a full 48 hours earlier than if we had tried to fly into Chicago. Score. It's a short shuttle to the airport station from the terminal, and it is free. One way ticket via Amtrak from Chicago to Milwaukee (and vice-versa): $22 (roundtrip = $44). And my lord, it sure beats the hell out of traffic on 94. ---- The station in Milwaukee is clean, easy, updated and well-located. A line of taxis sits outside during daytime hours, otherwise one can be called. For those unfamiliar with Amtrak...you can purchase a ticket online. Then much like the airport, you just print a boarding pass when you arrive to the station. Sign up for frequent traveler program and you'll earn points towards free travel as well.
