We all wish for an outdoor dining area- - we tend to choose restaurants with covered patios and we love to sit outside, so we do not choose Mimi Garden as often as we might, if they had a nice patio!! Try this place twice & ordered different dishes just to see how well they are overall. Out of everything dim sum/ dumplings. The Beef/scallion dumpling was the most tastiest. I will point out the duck is old & dry out, pass on that, you'll thank me. Other dishes are just ok, nothing really stands out. There are other place in the area I rather go. Mimi's Garden is honestly one of my favorite places for dumplings! We dine here almost weekly, and the food is consistently delicious. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Some of our favorites include the cucumber salad, BBQ pork buns, pan-fried beef dumplings, spicy noodles with sesame sauce, sautéed string beans with garlic, pan-fried rice cakes with shrimp, shrimp and pork wontons with spicy sauce, steamed chicken dumplings, and Mongolian beef. The crispy beef roll is my personal favorite! The popcorn chicken with basil is crispy and delicious, the pineapple beef is great, and the tornado fries are so much fun and incredibly crispy. Everything we've tried has been delicious! My main complaints are the business hours and the temperature inside the restaurant. Closing at 9:00 p.m. on weekends seems way too early, especially for a restaurant. The last-call issue is also consistently a problem. We were not told that it was last call, and around 8:50 p.m., my kids wanted to order a few small items, including dessert, but we were told, "Sorry, the kitchen is closed." Then, as soon as it gets close to closing time, it really feels like they are trying to rush customers out. Since we dine here almost weekly, this has been an ongoing and consistent issue. The restaurant can also be extremely hot inside depending on where you sit. The AC does not seem to work very well, which can make the dining experience uncomfortable, especially during the warmer months. I really wish they would either stay open later on weekends or clearly let customers know when last call is before the kitchen closes. I also hope they can improve the AC. Aside from those issues, the food is fantastic, and Mimi's Garden remains one of my favorite places to eat! read more

Decided to try out Mimi Garden in The Woodlands on a Sunday evening. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and sat right away. First thing I noticed was how cute the restaurant was decorated! Lots of decor on the walls with soft instrumental music playing. Our hostess/waitress was extremely polite and very sweet! She made sure to repeat our order back to us just to make sure she got everything correct. She also came by often to check up on us to see if we needed anything. We ordered the Cucumber Salad, Pork & Shrimp Xiao Long Bao, Braised Beef Shank Szechuan Noodle Soup, and the Pork Wontons with Spicy Sauce. Overall, the food was good but not great. I felt like I had to keep adding the soy sauce, black vinegar, and chile oil mixture to everything to bring out more flavor. After sampling this much of the menu, I honestly cannot believe Mimi Garden Dumpling & Bao ever has an empty table. Albert, Susan, Jason, and I came for our first visit and ordered whatever sounded good, then shared everything family-style--which turned into quite the feast. We tried the pork soup dumplings, separate orders of steamed pork, chicken, and beef dumplings, the crispy beef roll, fried shrimp balls, pineapple beef, combo fried noodles, Mongolian beef, and the swan dessert. The pork soup dumplings were my favorite: hot, juicy, freshly made, and absolutely worth ordering. The crispy beef roll was another standout, especially with all that fresh cilantro. The shrimp balls were crispy outside and tender and flavorful inside, and the pineapple beef was served inside a hollowed-out pineapple with a sweet flavor similar to sweet-and-sour beef, minus the sour. The Mongolian beef and combo fried noodles were both good additions, and we had plenty of leftovers because the portions were generous. The value is honestly excellent for both the amount and caliber of food. I tried apple sake for the first time and loved it, while Jason's nigori sake paired perfectly with the meal. The food arrived at a comfortable pace, so we could actually enjoy each dish instead of having the entire table buried at once. Vicky was wonderful. She helped us understand what was in the different dishes and made excellent recommendations. The swan dessert had a red bean filling and came with "Welcome to Mimi Garden" written in chocolate, which made our first visit feel especially thoughtful. The restaurant was exceptionally clean, tables were cleared almost immediately after guests left, parking was easy, and the atmosphere was soft and peaceful with quiet music and low conversation. You can also watch the food being made through the large glass wall, which added to the experience. This place works as a hidden gem, a date-night spot, or a relaxed dinner with friends. Quick lunch here with my friend and it was actually a nice surprise because this place is so tucked into The Woodlands that you wouldn't know it's there. The food was really good. Super cute authentic Asian cuisine. The AC was on the fritz when I went to pick up my take out. That did not hi see business at all. The dining room was full with only two empty tables. The employees looked happy and were helpful. The process on where to stand/wait until your takeout order is ready needs to be improved. The aroma hits you in the most incredible way all you can do is think about your food. We ordered kung pao chicken, beef noodles, crispy chicken, spicy pork dumplings, and crispy beef rolls. All was very good. The kung Pao did not come with rice and we didn't know that and it was salty, but still eatable. We will be in again to eat in house soon! read more

I'll keep this one short and sweet. It took me way too long to visit Mimi's. I've heard the hype and I had no doubt that my experience would be nothing short of awesome, but I guess I needed time to grieve the loss of the previous business who held this space. Craving dumplings, I figured it was finally time. The restaurant was buzzing with both returning company and newcomers alike. Based on the service I received, I can certainly see why locals return. As far as offerings, you can find the entire menu and photos here, but from what we chose, I'd highly recommend the beef rolls. Fair warning, if you do not eat pork, there's a limited selection of dumpling options, but all that we tried were well prepared. What a little gem! I have eaten at dumpling restaurants all over China. Mimi Garden is as authentic as it gets. Great service with a relaxing ambiance. The food and drinks came out quickly. Where to go in the woodlands for Chinese new year eve dinner? Well not a whole lot of choices, so we picked our local favorite. Everything was good and it was a full house. But we were the only Asians there. Well unless you count one of the waitresses. Yes we are in the Woodlands. A few notes: They don't take reservations. And you can't get in line over the phone. But it actually wasn't a long wait (they said 30 minutes over the phone). We ordered 6 dishes and they came out one by one which is good because I want it fresh and not sitting under a lamp. But there was a wait between courses. Crab Rangoon. $12 for 6. Ouch. I think that's the most expensive I've ever seen. But they were good. And in fact I only got one and my kid gobbled up the rest. I remember the crab xiaolong bao was not my favorite last time so we decided to stick with our roots and just get plain pork xiaolong bao. My new KISS philosophy (keep it simple stupid). It was good and better than the fancy shmancy crab one imho. Got a nice jiggle too (see vid) The beef in the beef rolls were cold this time. I asked the waitress and actually it's supposed to be cold. It is sometimes hot (like we got last time) because of the way they fry it. Popcorn chicken - always a sure bet. Tucked away inside a neighborhood shopping center, MiMi Garden is a true authentic Chinese eatery with some dim sum options. The Wood Ear Mushrooms is a good alternative to spiced cucumber salad if you are craving for a cold appetizer. Veggie dumplings were a delight but their buns are just amazing. It was a disappointment though that they do not serve chicken buns anymore but still should on the menu. The chicken friend noodles was a great choice as well and the noodles itself were very flavorful. Service is decent as you keep your expectations managed. Crab rangoon: 4-stars. Perfectly solid crab rangoon. Crispy Shrimp Balls with Melting Cheese: 3.5-stars. I hadn't ever ordered these before. I took a risk. They were fine, but I'd probably opt for something else next time. They also burned half of the skin out of my mouth, so I'd advise letting them sit for a bit before digging in. Popcorn Chicken: 3.5-stars. We ordered this for our son. I didn't love the flavor, but I found myself consistently going back for more. Seed oil? Combination Fried Rice: 3-stars. Fried rice is generally always about the same, but I was surprised that it tasted like something was missing here. What? I'm not sure. Lack of seed oil? Stir Fried Udon with Black Pepper Beef: 5-stars. By far, my favorite part of the meal. I could eat this every day of my life and not get tired of it. Passion Fruit Boba: 1-star. Inedibly bad. Maybe I am just not as much of a passion fruit person as I thought, but I really hated this. I took a few sips and couldn't go beyond that. Would I come back to MiMi Garden? Maybe? This place was absolutely amazing! Everything came out nice and hot, and the service was very quick. My top favorite were the crab rangoons and cucumber salad. The rangoons were not too overpowering with cream cheese and you could really taste the crab and the portion comes with a lot to share. The cucumber salad was delicious and the flavors were nicely balanced. I was happy with how big the portion, since they were so good. I also enjoyed how crispy the pan fried dumplings were and how juicy they were once you took a bite. The place is nicely decorated and well lit. Went here on Friday evening. Got seated right away. The service throughout our meal was impeccable. Multiple servers checked on us, refilled our drinks, and brought us anything we needed. We were very pleased with the service. The food was mediocre. We ordered pork xiao long bao. They were very hot and tasted good. The skins were a bit chewy, making it hard to eat. Spring rolls were delicious. We ordered General Tso's chicken. It was not good. It was lightly breaded chicken pieces in sweet and sour sauce. We both ate a couple of pieces and ordered Kung Pao instead. The Kung Pao was good, but nothing over the top. Went on an early evening on a Saturday and the place was almost full. They have opened a second location last week in the strip center on the west side of Borough Park Drive across from the HEB on Sawdust Rd. Went there this week and found it to be just as good as the original location in Alden Bridge. The menu is slightly different, but the dumplings still excellent flavors and wonderful service. Staff spot on and know their product very well. Both locations very very clean and bright. New Hole in the Wall Alert! I was craving Chinese food for lunch and found this gem. The restaurant boasts a large menu of authentic Chinese staples. I went with the Braised Beef Noodles as recommended by my server and it was absolutely delicious! The beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender and the broth was rich in flavor. I only wish there was room for more broth in the bowl. It did wonders to warm me up during this cold winter weather. I also really enjoyed that it wasn't overly oily. The restaurant is quite small and seems to fill up quickly, even getting busy on a Tuesday for the lunch rush. The staff was also fully prepared for the crowd. I was immediately grossed out by how sticky the menus were. The table covers were stained and there were stains on the condiments at the table. The food was mediocre. One of the biggest disappointments was the pineapple beef that looked nothing like the picture on the menu. What we received were some beef pieces swimming in an unnaturally red gooey sauce that was unappealing at best. The service was good until the end of the meal. My party ordered one last order of dumplings that never came. After about 15 minutes we reminded the staff and it took quite a while for them to come out. I came when they first opened, my mom recommended me to try it out. Absolute best dumplings near here, the egg custard buns with soy sauce are my favorite! The workers were super nice and even gave their own personal way of eating certain dishes (vinegar & chilly oil was surprisingly very good). The place is decorated in almost color coded sections with a pink corner and a green wall, i love the vibes it gives off super unique. I am obsessed with this place, I went yesterday and today lol. Everything tastes so authentic, fresh, and delicious. My kids eat everything that's put in front of them here.
