Shanghai Bistro is family owned (by an awesome family!) and has an extensive menu filled with delicious Asian favorites (AND lots of dishes you won't find anywhere else in The Woodlands!) The owners are always present , kind and attentive. One of my fave dishes is the seafood and tofu hotpot. It is packed with seafood that is always fresh and yummy. The woodlands is such a forest that you can have an ice, little neighborhood restaurant next door to you and not know about it unless you pull up the map. This restaurant was one of those. Turns out it was the closest Asian restaurant to my house, but I didn't have a clue until he yelp told me about it. This is a good traditional chinese restaurant. Take out or eat in. Comfortable booths. Excellent service. Fairly generic Cantonese Chinese. I would suggest you start at the back of the menu. Tere, you'll find the dinner specials. For 14.95, you can have a complete meal. Including, Soup, appetizers. Main dish. Beverages are also quite reasonable at 250. We had two different pots of tea and they were both good, but go with the jasmine. We ordered two similar chicken dishes. I had the ubiquitous. General Tsao chicken. My wife ordered sesame chicken. They were an identical sauce but one of course, had a great deal of spice added. Overall, i probably should have gone with the sesame. Chicken was excellent. Fresh chicken breast tender. The rice was well done. The vegetables were just right, everything, as i expected. Solid four stars. read more

They have some unique dishes that you can't find at a lot of other Chinese restaurants in this area. Decided to have a late lunch and was pleasantly surprised with Shanghai Bistro. Their service was prompt and friendly. We ordered the wrapped crab and shrimp as an appetizer, it was delicious! My husband ordered the combination egg fu young and he enjoyed it (the portion was huge). I had the shrimp lovers combination and it was tasty. We waited for 10 minutes for the menus. I finally got up and went to the counter to ask for them. Our wonton soup was barely warm. My friend's order came out on time, but after 20 minutes without my food, someone came out to say it was still being prepared. Horrible service, and the food was barely warm. Went here for Christmas and then went again last night for a birthday. The service is good and everybody is really nice. The food is good and everybody enjoyed it. We got a variety of things and even the toddlers loved the spring rolls, Miso soup, and fried rice. Spicy is pretty spicy here too, as my 10 year old got the mapo tofu and asked for a little spicy. He usually eats pretty spicy food but said it was almost too spicy. There were 7 of us (including 2 toddlers) and we sat at the big table. It had a really cool Lazy Susan in the middle so it made sharing easy. Small, locally owned vibe, which we love. They did automatically charge a gratuity because of the size of our party, I presume. I understand why places do that, but we would have tipped more if they hadn't. read more

Fried rice was pale and barely fried and vegetables were too chunky in the entrees. It has been difficult to find a good Chinese take out in greater Woodlands/ Conroe, TX area. We are from Chicago where you can find great egg rolls and fried rice so maybe we have different standard. read more

Crunchy, the perfect spicy and flavor. My daughters shared the giant portion of lo mein, inhaled no doubt. My parents had the happy family, a mix of beef, chicken and shrimp, and the Mongolian beef, all very tender and delicious. The staff was very kind and sweet to all of us especially our toddlers.
