It's not a fancy salon, but one of those places intended to give cheap haircuts. The job they do is much better then any cheap haircuts, and even better then medium fancy salons. For $15 you get a better job that you would get for $60 (and I give them a huge tip). I cannot compare to upscale salons though, I don't go there. I prefer my hair cut up to my preference (shaggy bob), with no styling, so it would look like I would wear it everyday. No coloring, just a high value haircut. I found it challenging for some hairdressers, because they may not do it right, and then try to fix the shape with gel and hairdryer, leave alone changing for a more vivid color for better looks. Some places don't know how to use razor to cut shaggy bob. But hairdressers here know how to cut is right and it also looks beautiful. I don't go to cut hair very often (always afraid it would be screwed up), but I came back here once my hair got longer. I'm very impressed with both the haircut and their service. I called at 4:40pm and walked in on a Sunday at 4:45pm just 15mins before they close. Tiffany answered my call and with a smile she did my haircut. I've thick wavy hair and she understood what type of hairstyle I wanted when I explained! She was fast and very good! I love my haircut! I wouldn't recommended this place for hair cut for anyone. Poor service and terrible attitude. We came at 2.30pm she made us wait 30 mins and then did the hair cut and told us to wait for another 30 mins because she needs to finish a client with her hair wash. We were told if we can't wait then come back at 6.00pm to finish styling the hair. She asked us to make the full payment and was expecting a tip. How can I give her a tip when she hasn't finished her job. We came back at 5.45 pm and she again made us wait, she was calling the people who came after us. Finally we were called in at 6.30. She totally ignored us as if we didn't exist. Please don't waste your time and money at this place. We had a bitter experience here. read more

The worst attitude ever with average haircut. The most humiliating experience ever. Do not goto this place. There will be many places where they do nice haircuts. I missed appointment by 10 mins and she made me wait for almost an hour. When I requested her very politely and in apologetic manner that in one and half hour my daughter has her graduation, could you please take her and she showed too much attitude and started screaming and being rude at me in front of all the customers. It was such a humiliating experience I have ever faced. If she couldnt do what I was requesting, she could have told me nicely but there was absolutely no need to be rude. I followed Susan from Linda's in Livermore to a location in the Markeplace in San Ramon. Lucky for me, I live right down the street so it worked out great. She does an excellent job with hair. I have always told her that I want brown base with blonde highlights and that is what I get! No red or orange tones.... Susan does waxing as well and is very sweet. BEWARE!!! LICE!!! Took my daughter there a week ago because of convenience. Sat morning at 10 walked in and no wait. But we were "greeted" by a lady with no smile. She asked how I wanted her hair cut and I told her trim the bang and layer the back. 10 min later, bang trimmed and back trimmed as well. No layer what so ever. Fine I could have careless for style for little girl. The haircut itself was not bad just simple. When I was ready to pay, the lady couldn't even tell me how much without talking to another lady exchanging a conversation in foreign language that sounded like a complaint. The whole time I received no eye contact and no common courtesy smile. I paid $20 including a tip that I regret. I gave her benefit of the doubt that she might have a bad day already (an hour after opening) but I refused to return to a place with no customer service. The worst came a little later afterwards. My daughter complained that her head itched and we found lice. Think about it, I don't recall seeing them cleaning the comb/brushes...I cannot prove 100% if this haircut place was the source. But if u get sick after trying a new sushi restaurant, will you go back? I will leave it up to you. read more

I was pretty disappointed to learn that Susan doesn't know anything about mixing color. I am used to going to an upscale Salon where all you need to say is "I trust you!" and your hair turns out awesome. Though this was not the case with her at all. I explained that I wanted to dye all my hair chestnut brown and have peak-a-boo blonde highlights just on my right side and a little on my bang. She had no idea what peak-a-boo high lights were and insisted on showing me styles in these extremely outdated books. She kept pointing to styles saying "Like this?" and I kept saying no. With all the great reviews on yelp, I didn't think that she would have to use a book as a complete guide to coloring my hair. I resulted in just dying my hair one color, a color that she had pointed out in the book. I actually really like my hair color, but I'm pretty sure that was lucky. If I wanted just straight up to dye my hair a color from a book, I'd do it myself. Then she continued to cut my hair, I asked her to keep the length and add layers. I assumed that she would do layers from the top, but she cut the layers so that you could see it when standing face to face with me. NOBODY has this cut anymore. Her and her other stylists need to keep up with todays styles and get rid of the styling books they have in their waiting area. (I'm sorry if I sound like a complete bitch, I'm just frustrated!) Racist barber (white people are preferred) Just left the store after a very quick haircut. I was ahead of a white guy (gray hair) and when it was my turn she told me she was closing and the young guy working would cut my hair. After he started cutting my hair she pointed to the white guy to go over and started cutting his hair. If you are middle eastern, Indian or Indian looking, you are second or third class citizens in Mimi's haircut. Can someone tell me if there is a place I can file a complaint, such as state barber board or whoever licenses barber shops, possibly city of San Ramon. read more

I've been having Susan cut my hair for about 2 years now - she is great! Not just because she's super affordable ($25 w/tip!), but she is thorough, and always does the little things that make for a good cut (texturizes, checks sides for balance, shaves neck, and touches up after blow drying), no matter how busy she is! I probably shouldn't be telling you about her, but, I have to give her props! I have never used anyone there but her, but all the stylists seem perfectly competent. The only downside is, she works on first-come first serve most of the time, or you can call ahead (within same day), so come down, sign in, and wait your turn for a great haircut! read more

If you want a quick walk in place to get your hair done, this may be the place for you. Expect 30 minutes wait at least. If you ever want to do a bit more work with your hair other than simple cutting, look elsewhere. There is NO WAY to make an appointment with the place. They will make your appointment and then TOTALLY TRASH it. I was trying to do coloring with them. I walked in on a Sunday around 4pm, and was told that they did not have enough time to do it for me on that day, and asked me to make an appointment with them beforehand for matters like coloring. I think that's a reasonable request, and I called them a week later on a Saturday morning and made an appointment with them on 11am the next day. They called me back about 10 minutes later to ask me to come over at 3pm that afternoon. I accepted that appointment. But when I walked in the store at 3pm, Susan told me she called me to cancel the appointment but I didn't pick up the phone. I checked my phone, she called about 25 minutes before (the appointment), when I was driving heading here. I asked her how long do I need to wait for my turn (come on, I had an appointment, right?). She told me ABOUT ONE HOUR, or you can COME BACK TOMORROW. YOU CANNOT SIMPLY CALL PEOPLE 25 MINUTES BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT TO TELL THEM YOU CANNOT KEEP IT, IF YOU SUGGESTED THE APPOINTMENT YOURSELF IN THE SAME MORNING!!! YOU SHOULD NOT TRASH APPOINTMENTS. YOU SIMPLY NEED TO LET PEOPLE WALKED IN KNOW ABOUT THE APPOINTMENT. IN CONCLUSION, this place will TRASH your appointment, waste your time like you are their on-call 24-7 service support. Today, after much consideration, I have upgraded Mimi's from a 4 star to a 5 star. Today, I went in for a cut and color and I was overwhelmed by Susan's skill, kindness and generosity. I called to make an appointment and because she was free when I called, she told me that she could take me right away. Score! She spent three hours on my hair. No joke. Three hours. She spent some time consulting me about what color I should go with, which was very helpful and much appreciated being that I have not colored my hair in at least a decade. She did a fantastic job on the color and the cut! I am so happy with the results. No, this is not a fancy schmancy salon where they will start cutting/coloring away and you will come out with something you like but didn't really know you wanted. This is a no-nonsense salon that is clean, has a wonderfully skilled haircutter/colorist/stylist and will give you the cut/style you request (it probably wouldn't hurt to bring a picture of what you want). This is also a place where you will walk out feeling like you got a great deal! I paid $90 for my cut and color! Isn't that insane? $90 for all of that?!? Yes, I am a fan of Mimi's. My 9 year old daughter went in today for a haircut. First, I was able to get right in with Amy - same day appt. Second, my daughter had LONG hair, 1/2 way down her back and she wanted a short A-line cut. Amy treated her just like a little adult, checking every cut from multiple angles. She was VERY precise. The only reason I did not give them 5 stars is because of the price. The charge was $25. Most of the reviews on Yelp mentioned $15 - so I expected $15, but was caught off guard when it was $25. ALTHOUGH, it was worth every penny. Again, I was just expecting less, but I can understand that it was not a trim but a whole new style. So, my advice would be to call and check the pricing before you go. We will be back to see Amy - I'm so glad all you other "yelpers" rated this salon - you were right, it's a gem. read more

I see there are some good reviews about Mimi's hair cut but here's one that raised a red flag the moment I stepped in. The board outside says they do Japanese straightening and so I wanted to enquire what products they use in the interest of straightening my hair. When I enquired, this person who was also on the phone said, "We use 2 products" I asked, "which ones" and she says, "the good ones, why do you ask?" I was like "THANK YOU" and I walked out! Well, what is there to hide if indeed they are good ones? And who would be willing to butcher their hair not knowing what is going into it? I'm glad I asked this question and now I know I will not go to Mimi's for anything! I've been looking for a good place to get a haircut close to home and my searching has finally paid off!!! Mimi's Cuts opened up at the Marketplace in San Ramon a month ago. I'm a guy and I do not need all that shampoo, blow dry, and style for when I get a haircut. A good hair cut suits me just fine. My hair was cut by Susan who was really nice. The last person who cut my hair screwed it up pretty bad. She looked at my hair and could tell that it was uneven and too much was cut off the top. She took care of it and I'm feeling a lot better about my hair! Prices are reasonable. Men's haircut $16 which is great news in this economy. If you are a person who just needs a good haircut without all the extras, I highly recommend this place! read more

They completely ruined my hair. Not only was too much cut off, they randomly put in layers. They are not gentle at all when washing the hair, and they don't use any sort of heat protectants before they blow dry or straighten your hair. On top of that they barely speak English and struggle to understand what you're saying. Not a good experience. I know someone who went their as well. My family of 6 has followed Tiffany through several Salon moves over the course of 3 or 4 years. I think she only works at this location on Wed and Sun - but I must say she is AWESOME!! My family ranges 2 boys ( elementary School), 2 Girls ( High School) and then me and hubby - I say this to paint a picture of the diverse and demanding skills required to please everyone. For the girls- She is one of the best when it comes to layers. I'd put her up against any "upscale" hairdresser in a second. For the boys- She really takes her time with them - and I have always been really pleased. And then down to cost - our cuts average $15 and $18 - but don't let that fool you! Clean and inviting space, very reasonable price, excellent haircut quality - from the guy's perspective. Going there couple years now, on advise of my neighbor, seen all of them in action while waiting - Susan is by far the best, excellent feel of style, thorough execution, easygoing personality. IMHO others are good as well, but after few visits my wife told me to stick with Susan, well whatever makes them happy. I did not have a good experience here. I went today in the afternoon for a shampoo and blowdry. The lady who shampooed my hair kept on putting chilled water on my scalp even after I told her water was ice cold. When she proceeded to blowdry, it was not a good experience at all. She pulled my hair several times. I kept telling her to work on it gently. Then she took out a flat iron and told me she is going to use it. I reminded her that this was a blow dry appointment and blow dry is done with the blowdryer and brush. She did not like it and proceeded to almost burn my hair with the blow dryer nozel. After she was done she suddenly started smiling (expecting a tip). Also when I went to pay she kept showing me a placard which said "Tips are appreciated" I will not be going back!!!! read more

Dreadful haircut! The woman who cut my daughter's hair was in such a rush to get her into the chair, was not listening to what I wanted her to do, and could barely understand English. At this point, I should have left the salon, but against my better judgement I stayed to give them a chance. After all, I only needed a straight cut/trim across the bottom of my daughter's long straight hair. How hard could that be right?? Wrong! This was the worst, most choppy cut ever. Was empty when I took my daughter in for her spiltend cut. Of course I did call before. They said they are never busy on weekends and asked me to just walk in. I should've guessed just then! After my daughter was taken in for a hair wash, I was inquiring abt trimming my bangs. One lady (thin, long blond hair) assumed I wanted my bangs cut and walked from the hairwash sink area to the chair. I said I'm still thinking about it. She walked back and stood near hair wash place. I said that I've decided to cut my bangs, she was not happy. She started yelling "first I walk there then walk back then again walk there", also yelling in a different Asian language. I can never tell which one it is. She was talking about less than 10 foot steps. Really funny. I would think they want to run a business, welcome customers. Not yell. I said "nevermind, it's ok" I was happy to see her walk back which added a few more steps to her step count. Bad service. Poor attitude. I would never come back here read more

My hair looks horrible. There is a new person with no skills. I am not talking about the style, but simply hair cut. One side is choppy, short and thin and other side too thick and long. It looks worst the next day. I am just so upset about this, and a nightmare. read more

Complained about her hand hurting, when she brushed a comb through my hair she would accidentally run the scissor through as well, cutting off pieces of hair. In the middle of the haircut, she flipped my hair part to the left and told me it looked better that way. When I asked her to fix it, she refused to. While cutting my hair she would cut it haphazardly so the pieces of hair would fly into my face and my eyes. Overall, bad service and bad haircut. read more
