An old-fashioned diner. Homemade chicken fried steak and fresh veggies were great. I had a western omelette with hash browns. The hash browns were perfect with crispy top and soft potatoes underneath. The omelette was fine with all the fillings being fresh. We split red velvet cake for dessert. It too was homemade, with a great cream cheese frosting. The service was very good, with the server checking on us frequently, but never hovering. read more

This is a small town restaurant in downtown Paul's Valley. The folks are incredibly friendly, and the food was pretty good. They don't have a lot on the menu, but they do have specials, which is what I ordered - the turkey and stuffing. You get three sides; mine were carrots, green beans, and mashed potatoes. They provide you rooms or cornbread, and this dish was a dollup of cranberries. All of it was goods sans the stuffing. A little heavy on the sage, and the texture seemed off. My wife had the chicken fried steak sandwich and it was amazing. We would stop by and try other sandwiches. read more

Very disappointed. I wanted to support local businesses but this place is absolutely awful. Not only was it hot and muggy inside but we waited so long for service while there was only two other customers... not let's talk about the food. I've never in my life has worse! I got a breakfast burrito with hash browns. The hash browns were not cooked, raw. The burrito hardly had anything in it it was compliantly flat, with just an egg and a pice of bacon. We waited 10 minutes for the bill but ended up having to go find the staff so we could pay to leave. Everything was baaaad. read more

Day seven of our road trip to San Diego, stop 4. With the disappointment of the Action Figure Museum's being closed for the President's Day holiday fresh in our minds, we went in search of downtown Pauls Valley for at least one experience we could take with us. It was only 10:30 in the morning, and the town was pretty quiet. Being that it was the holiday presented us with a bit of a challenge, as almost all the businesses were closed and the streets were deserted. I thought how cool it'd be to open a safety deposit box at the local bank. Like I'm some criminal trying to hide my money in all corners of the US, or put some memento of our trip inside it, creating a time capsule of sorts. But no, bank's closed too. As I turned to the main street that would lead us out of town, I saw a great big sign that begged further investigation. Mimi's Restaurant. The sign said, "come in here, do it, it'll be cool!" and I busted a u turn to park right in front. The metallic white shades were drawn so we couldn't see inside, and when I pulled open the door, I was surprised with what I had found. I expected 1950's classic with barstools, shake machines, and paper hats, but what I got was 1970's pragmatic. A wood paneled office turned diner, with second generation mismatched booths and an open service area smattered with appliances for convenience, not aesthetics. Sarah and I weaved through the customers that were all somehow inside and half outside their booths at the same time, returning all the stares dead on with smiles and head nods, and plopped in a booth in the corner. Now, we weren't that hungry, as just hours before our Oklahoma City hosts cooked us a massive breakfast. But we came in, we sat down, so now we must order something! But what was I in the mood for? The old, grey waitress with her friendly eyes and big smile came up to us and asked what it was that we wanted. I replied with "a shake, vanilla," and her smile disappeared. "We don't have a blender." I started to tell her that it was okay, but before I could finish saying so she skipped off and we could hear her whipping up a shake with an electric handheld beater. What an awesome day! A few minutes later I got my vanilla shake, and gave her a mad tip to which she exclaimed, "oh my! Thank you." Tip: try the special of the day, it comes with FOUR of the six vegetables they offer every day! Surely, lots of food. read more

Tired or Retired: Mimi's is an old school hash-slinging palace. They have eggs, bacon, biscuits, chicken-fried steak, patty melts, etc. Better like eating early, because as soon as the lunch rush slows down, the tired elderly waitresses, head out, and Mimi's shuts down by 2. Nothing remarkable, but nothing dangerous either. Safe Breakfast standards. Not an unpleasant choice. read more

Sunday dinner. This is the place to go. They give you a choice of 3 entrees. Then you get to pick 3 sides to go with your entree and they are so good. Every-time we have Sunday dinner there: it always reminds me of Thanksgiving. Always good. They usually have at least 2 and sometimes 3 homemade desserts to offer. The custard pie is outstanding. It's creamy rich flavor and homemade crust can't be beat. I love this place. They are only open till 2p. So hurry on over after church. You may have to wait a little bit for a table but it's worth it. read more

Mimi's is a clean, solid diner with food that delivers what you expect without pulling any crazy punches. While it has been reincarnated several times over, I wouldn't call what it retained particularly charm. The atmosphere is friendly but quiet with no music playing. If you want a fried chicken breast that is not greasy, a good stop. read more

The one star is simply so I can register a review. My recent dining experience was so bad, it's hard to find a word to describe it so I'm just going to go with awful. Now, I know tastes vary so if you are nostalgic and like elementary school cafeteria food, or if you would like a glimpse into the fare you will receive in your nursing home years then by all means Mimi's is your place! I had the the "special" of the day which was chicken fried steak. I'm certain the actual steak itself was bought frozen at Walmart because it tasted like it was frozen and flash fried. I must have gotten the bottom of the basket on the fried okra because it came out almost black and there were a few over cooked French fry pieces mixed in. The mashed potatoes were just gross and bland, and the gravy was extremely thin. My dad got the hamburger "steak" which was just a hamburger patty not even a 1/4 inch thick! It was so thin it bordered being non-existent. They through some halfway grilled onions on top of it and the presentation was just pathetic. The bread they served with the meal was cold and stale. This was quite possibly the worst dining experience I've ever had. I was told that the restaurant was 4th generation and typically not that bad. Heads up 4th gen, keep this up and Mimi's won't be around for the 5th. read more

I just ate at Mimi's Restaurant for the first time. There were 12 people in our group so I called ahead to reserve a table. Since they only have one really long table we said we would be there around 11 to beat the noontime rush. We actually arrived closer to 10:30. The waitress created us and showed us to our table. In my group of 12, only 4 of us were adults. The other 8 were between the ages of 7 and 12. The waitress was very patient in taking their orders and was great! None of our drinks ever got empty and we never had to ask for a refill. She took all the orders and about 20 minutes later all the food was brought out. I'm sure our order took a little longer because it was a large order. Everyone loved the food. I had a cheeseburger and it had to be one of the best I've ever had. The ticket was less than $100.00 so I felt like we got our money's worth and more. The only downside was they had no lemon for my tea and they ran out of biscuits. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a diner type experience and meal would love this place. I will be going back. read more

This restaurant has been in the same family for years, passing from one sister to the next. First it was called Jones's, then Nita's, then Mimi's. It's a great little small town restaurant. The prices are great and the staff is always friendly, especially the waitress named Jeraldine. I usually get the lunch plate that comes with four vegetables--always good selections. For desert, the egg pie is always good ... but if you happen to be there on a day they have strawberry cobbler, don't pass it up--it's one of the best things I've ever eaten. read more
