Soheila, the owner of Mimi's Tailoring & Design is simply amazing. Last year, I wanted a couple of sweatshirts converted into jackets and thought this was a fairly straightforward thing that any tailor could do. To my surprise, two other tailors said they couldn't, after they asked me to bring the sweatshirts in for them to see. Not Soheila, she immediately said yes, no problem. Well, the jackets came out so great that I bought two more sweatshirts for Soheila to convert. She did great work, completed within a couple of weeks, plus she is just so sweet. I love her! She told me she named the shop after her mom, Mimi. I'm now getting her to make some curtains for me from some cool designer fabric I found online. Can't wait :) read more

Unfortunately, this was the worst tailor. I ended up having to come here 5 times for my dress to get altered before my wedding day. Not because I was picky, but because the tailor didn't do the work needed for my dress. She kept telling me to come back until I demanded it to be complete one week before my wedding day. She never wrote things down on what needed to be done and didn't tailor the dress to my needs. I was pretty disappointed with the front of the dress, which had beading. I wanted it to be clean and fit to my body and she said she could make it happen. It puckered and was crinkled but unfortunately there wasn't anything more I can do. This was a pretty disappointing experience. read more

Alterations were rarely done on time/ when promised, even when she knew i needed them for trips. Was told "I have to be flexible to her time" when im the customer. Kind of rude if you ask me. On top of 7 of my expensive dresses were tailored unevenly the hem was starting under the arm & ending up on my backside. I took 4 of them back to be re done they are ok. Then 1 dress was cut way shorter than the agreed length & on top of that also cut uneven leaving no room to be able to fix it. When i reached out with pictures I was not responded back to. I've lived in laguna beach 10years and only recently discovered Sohela at Mimis Tailoring in south laguna. She is excellent at her craft, very accommodating with your timing needs, incredibly kind and charges much too little. Had a last minute dress alteration I needed done asap as we were leaving town; Sohela took care of it in 24hrs (while she had a full plate with a couple bridal fittings). See photo! I just had the most wonderful tailoring experience with Sohela! I brought in a variety of clothes to be altered - I needed a Spell flowy dress taken in, a pair of Agolde jeans taken in at the waist and shortened and a denim AG dress "unshortened" (I got it hemmed too high at another tailor). I feel like I just got a new wardrobe - the jeans look amazing - you can't tell they were taken in and she kept the original hem so it's like a pair of jeans made perfectly for me. The Spell dress kinda looked like a mumu but she was able to take it in and gather it perfectly so now it has a way more flattering fit. The denim dress is *chef's kiss*. I went here for my wedding dress alterations and am so pleased with the results! She basically completely remade the bottom half of my dress. It looked even better than I imagined. As a laguna beach local, mimis is convenient for me. When I dropped off my hat requesting she sew ribbon on 1 quarter of the hat brim, she had me leave my hat there for 1 week. She not only didn't have it ready after 1 week, she also sewed it with the Wrong color I asked for and did not even finish it with the requested finish stitch. I paid her up front and expected 1 week of having my custom hat she would have it finished.. she not only didn't excite it timely, she proceeded to deliver bad work. I do not recommend read more

Soheila at Mimi's Tailoring has done the alterations for three of my dresses, including my wedding dress, and I've always been SO happy with her work. She's super sweet. Going to see her is like hanging out with your favorite aunt, and I always look forward to my appointments with her. You can tell she really listens to what you want, and she definitely delivers on what she promises to do. Her prices are very reasonable, too. Before my wedding, I took my dress to another place for a quote (just to compare; I was planning on using Mimi's Tailoring), and Soheila charged me half what that place would have, and that was for pretty extensive alterations. The whole dress basically had to be taken in as well as shortened, and I added buttons and a sash. Soheila didn't even complain when, even though my dress was supposed to be done, I asked her to make one more change! Soheila's clothing alterations are good but her upholstery and ability to complete a large job is not! She gave me a quote for my patio furniture cushions and assured me she was comfortable doing the job. After bringing her my cushions (couch, chair, 2 ottomans) she cut patterns, ordered foam and made covers. They absolutely did not fit - hung over the edges by 4 inches. She told me she would like to make it right so we agreed it would help if she came to see the cushions on the furniture. I took her pictures but she preferred to see them in person which was fine with me. She asked that we wait until after the busy summer season and that was all right by me also. After 4 months passed and she hadn't come, I asked her to come and make a repair plan. She said she would get back to me and never did. 2 months later, I had someone else complete the job and discussed these charges with Soheila. She was very, very rude and refused to address this issue with me - she even hung up on me. So sad. read more
