This was my go to college spot and I was happy to revisit. It's been a couple years since I've eaten here and it's still pretty good!! I always get the combo plate where you get two proteins - a pretty good price for a huge serving of food. I usually save half for another meal. My favorite is their hummus. Something about it at Mims just is like nothing other. I used to come here just for hummus.

Great local restaurant near the Minnesota State Fair grounds. The prices are very reasonable with generous portion sizes. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is much larger than it looks from the outside or even from the front entrance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is another two rooms of seating available around the corner from the counter that you order at.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff is incredibly friendly and quick service! Very much worth a visit just for a drink and a delicious piece of baklava!

I visited on a Thursday afternoon during lunch hour, and waited in line for 20 minutes to order, then another 10 minutes for the food. I ordered the small beef kabob plate and it was alright. Beef got cold super fast and was too chewy for my taste. The pickled salad on the side was great tho! It balances out the meal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's a good amount of seating that fits 10 small parties![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Had to check this spot out! I ordered the lamb kebab sandwich, which was pretty good--nice flavor and juicy without being too dry. Prices were fair, and the service was great. It's a family-owned business, and you can really feel the care they put in. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance was just okay when I went, but I imagine it would feel more lively with a few more people around.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Best food in the twin cities, possibly the entire country. Never disappoints. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great staff and atmosphere as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Good place to study or do work.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Very affordable if you are also a student.

A coworker at the U recommended this spot, and I absolutely loved it! The perfect lunch spot if you're looking for delicious food, and something different than what the fast casual places have to offer. A quaint, small business tucked into what seemed to be a mostly residential area. You can tell it's run by a family and the service was incredibly friendly, answered my questions about the menu, and prepared the food quickly! I ended up getting the beef burrito: a yummy combination of shawarma beef, rice, hummus, onions, and green peppers. A hearty serving that left me satisfied for the whole afternoon, although it was a bit messy to eat in my car :) This will be my go-to lunch spot when I'm in the area! I'm excited to try out other items on the menu.

Great spot for Mediterranean food at a good price- perfect for college students! I went once during college, but never ventured back because most of my classes were on the Minneapolis campus of UMN but recently went back for dinner with a friend, and I wished I had gone more often! I got a lamb and beef shawarma platter with rice and hummus, and the small plate was perfect size for dinner. You get some pita bread with your plate and the flavors were great. Service was also friendly, and there's indoor and outdoor seating available. Only street parking is available since you are on campus (the St Paul Student Center is basically across the street), but it wasn't too hard to find parking on a Monday night.

From the outside, Mim's is easy to overlook, but the welcoming service and delicious food absolutely speaks for its self. The restaurant is family owned and feels like home when you enter. The waiters, cooks, and owners greeted us with a smile, and the food was served within 5-10 minutes. The food, which is a mix of both Mediterranean and American classics, was delicious. I shared the veggie combo (rice, baba ghanouj, salad, falafel, veggies, and pita) and a veggie burrito. There are plenty of vegan and vegetarian options that are both healthy and tasty. Although I enjoy Mim's for dinner, this is a great casual lunch spot for college students and professors! Highly recommend stopping by!

Amazing falafels and golden rice. Their hummus is really good! The fries could be better but still solid! Their garlic sauce is super!

Mim's is amazing. Pro tip: if you can handle some spiciness, ask for the spicy version of their shawarma.

It was a nice walk over the Mississippi River. The place is cozy and very clean. We were welcomed with so much warmth it was like having home cooking. We started out with the bread with feta. It was so good with the right amount of seasonings. I wanted to try the dowjic soup so I ordered a cup. I loved it! Yes it's lemony and has a lot of garlic which you could think is a lot of salt but these bright tangy flavors were right up my alley. Not to mention that with all that lemon and garlic it's great for your immune system. After a long flight this hit the spot. For entrees I had the bakla with chicken. So healthy and fresh. The rice had dill. Very tasty. My dad and his girlfriend had the Sheik Babani. They loved it. We enjoyed our meal so much that we went back on a Saturday in order to try the chicken Tawa which is only available Fridays and Saturdays. We had first gone there on Thursday. So glad we got a chance to try that too because the chicken was so tender and flavorful. Wish we were able to go again but they were closed Monday on our last day. Congrats to all the staff and owners for making this family restaurant a special place to eat.

The service was great and friendly. Prices are reasonable. If you're not big on tart food, then don't get the dowjic soup because it has a lot of lemon juice. The soup was good with bread to tame down the tartness. The food was flavorful and not overpowering with spices like Indian cuisine.

We got to that door just as the owners were closing up shop, so we asked for a nearby suggestion and were directed down the block, to the other side of the protest. My friend promptly forgot the name of the suggested eatery, and I was busy focusing on the protest and feeling so deeply proud of our community, so we simply meandered before arriving at Hamdi. Abdiladif had such a bright, warm grin spread across his face as he welcomed us into the space and led us to a back table that you wouldn't think there was a fight for human rights occurring right beyond the walls. Or rather, it's possible that he realizes that, yes, there was, and every voice outside and every visitor inside is proof of where this community stands in this fight. Yeah, okay, that'd be reason for me to grin, too. The menu was simple. A few protein options. A few vegetarian dishes. A few drinks. A complimentary cup of Somalian tea that you could refill at will at a station conveniently located at the middle corner between the two dining rooms. No prices beside the menu items, which was puzzling. Abdiladif was so friendly and happy to answer our many curious questions, offer clarifications and suggestions. We ordered the two goat dishes. One ended up being out of a key component, likely the happy result of several tables filling up before ours, so we ended up with two of the same goat dish. They weren't really named, so "goat" was all we went off of on the menu. My friend paired his with the spaghetti, while mine was with chapati, hummus, and creamed veggies. My friend ordered mango juice. The sweetened Somalian tea was plenty delightful for me. We both preferred the creamed veggies in the same bite as the hummus. The chapati seemed somewhat dry and needed the hummus. The goat was decently flavorful and tender, though not juicy. My friend struggled a bit with the larger bones on his pieces. We both loved the tea so much that we continued chatting while sipping on one last sweet refill, after learning that a dessert menu no longer existed. Before we leave, I leave my jacket and to-go container of lamb meat at our table to use the restroom. I return to my jacket missing. Baffled, I figure my friend had grabbed it. I turn to grab the to-go box and go pay on my way out. As I turn back towards the main dining room, a diner from a neighboring table within the room runs back in and makes a beeline for me. He's holding my jacket, folded tidily. Sheepish, he explained that he thought I'd forgotten it and had run out of the restaurant with it to look for me. It's unfortunate that painful times like these exist, but it's also beautiful to see community come together in light of that dark. There are several Somali places in this area, many other ethnic spaces to support in the Twin Cities. My friends and I look forward to getting to know a great many more.
