They had a huge area with foam mats and blocks for kids to climb on and I was able to sit on the floor with him while he played so I could fill out the welcome paperwork. Next came the visit with Dr. Strassner (not sure if I spelt her name correctly) and she was absolutely wonderful! For one, because of my son's age, they don't expect him to be held down on a table so his teeth can be examined, which is what I was expecting, but they had a super kid friendly room with activities all over the wall and the doctor and I sat knee to knee so she could examine him while he was secured in both our laps. She was super thorough and cleaned his teeth in 30 seconds while we all sang him The Wheels on the Bus. She had an attentive, comforting bedside manner and made several excellent recommendations with alternative options depending on my comfort level. My son has a lip tie and she wasn't pushy about removing it because he is unaffected by it. After his (quick and thorough) visit, my son got to pick a toy from a bin and we were on our way. Wonderfully positive experience!

This office is interested in helping reluctant dental patients (*ahem, me*) feel comfortable and in control of their dental journey. Not an easy thing to do, but definitely can be done as evidenced by Dental Tree of the Heights investing the time to pulse check how the patient feels about dentistry in general. It turns out I needed quite a bit of work done on a variety of teeths in the molar quadrant of both sides of my lower mouth. The dear reader should know that while I have at times in my life avoided even looking toward a dentists office, I have probably also spent years of my life scrolling through movie selections and never actually picking anything to watch. And endless scroll of visual choices. After some time, I asked the dentist assistant to choose and next thing I knew, I was chillin while they was drilling. Netflix and drill, anyone? 5 stars.

In January, I received treatment, paid my balance in full at checkout, and was given a receipt showing my account was paid. Despite this, I continued receiving monthly bills for the same balance. When I called, I was told by the office manager, Kimm, that my payment had accidentally been applied to another patient's account and that the issue would be corrected. However, I continued receiving the same bill month after month. At my six-month appointment today, I experienced another frustrating situation. After my cleaning and exam were completed, I was taken to checkout and asked to sign a treatment plan and pay for services that had already been performed--services that were never discussed with me beforehand. Kimm acknowledged the mistake, stating, "I'm sorry, someone should have reviewed these with you before treatment." These were optional services that I had previously declined at prior appointments, yet they were completed without my knowledge or consent. To make matters worse, during the same checkout, Kimm again asked me to pay the outstanding balance from January--the very balance she had previously admitted was the result of the office applying my payment to another patient's account. Everyone makes mistakes, but after repeated billing errors, poor communication, and performing optional treatment without informed consent, I have lost confidence in this office's administrative processes. Patients should not have to repeatedly dispute charges they have already paid or be billed for elective services they never agreed to receive.

We will not be returning to this office.

I don't think many people enjoy going to the dentist. I really hate it. I had a very traumatic…read moreexperince as a child at the dentist, and have absolutely dreaded going since that time. When I came to Southern Dental, I admittingly was past due for a check-up and cleaning. But, I didn't want to deal with being lectured about it by anyone BUT the dentist. I was expecting to be lectured by the dentist. However, Dr. Morales was awesome. She was kind and gentle and professional. However, the receptionist has been a real PITA every time I've been in the office. After my first check-up, she came into the room to explain the charges I would be responsible for the work that I needed, and proceeded to ask me how long it had been since I had been to the dentist. Lady, you are not in the position to pass judgement on me and I don't appreciate a receptionist talking down to me. My second bad experience came with the same receptionist the second time I came in for a filling. On my first visit, I was asked if I wanted to do a pre-cancer screening for a cost of $33. They said they would bill it to my insurance first, but if insurance didn't cover it, I would then be responsible for the cost. Ok, fine. But, bill my insurance first. So, as soon as I come in for my second visit, the receptionist tells me I owe them $33 for the screening. I asked if they had billed my insurance and she quickly cut me off and told me that insurance never pays it, so she hadn't submitted it and I just needed to pay it. I was pretty ticked at that point, but I held my tongue and paid the fee. Interestingly enough, I got the statement in the mail from my insurance a couple weeks later and the screening WAS covered by insurance - so now I have to request a refund from the dental office. I realize $33 isn't a large sum of money, but it just annoyed me the way they handled it. Everyone else in the office has been polite and professional, so I don't really want to give this place a bad review because of one person. However, I learned recently that Dr. Morales is leaving the practice. Since she is really the reason I keep coming here, I will most likely be going somewhere else. A lot of other reviewers commented on the wait time. I never had to wait more than 10 minutes to be taken to the back/seen by the dentist. However, it hasn't exactly been busy when I have had an appointment. I was surprised by the facility itself. Very dated and while the reception/waiting area looks ok, the back with the patient rooms looks really run down.

The total bill was over $10,000. My daughter expressed discomfort with the dental office, we were recommended to another Dental office. To My surprise her visit with the Other Dentist went drastically different. We were told that there was staining on three of her teeth, which could be remedy by better brushing. There was no concern after x-rays were taken for her to have her wisdom teeth removed as soon as possible. And my daughter had not one cavity in her mouth. She walked out of that dental office with a perfect exam and very little instructions to go home with. While all dental offices are different. It is impossible to have a diagnosis that drastically different. I will be reporting this dental office to the state because it is clear that they are doing unnecessary procedures on clients for financial gain. Very unprofessional and predatorial. Majority of their clients are children in low income families. If you have dental coverage, please contact your provider and get a list of the Dental offices that accepts your insurance. And if you have state provided medical, you can also contact them and they will give you a list of dental offices that you can contact. This is disgusting and very scary. When walking in any dental or medical office you are supposed to be able to trust the provider. I will be reporting this dentist and the Office to the state. Please do not scar your children by taking them to this office where they will be treated like another check and experience unnecessary procedures.

When we showed up and I started to go back with our ward, I was told "we are just doing x-rays, we will call you back before her treatment." She came out later and when I inquired about the cavities, I was told "we didn't do those today, they will be another time." We set this appointment months in advance, and now they did not address the cavities, and they expected me to take another day off work and for our ward to take a day away from high school. This was medical treatment without consent or communication and neither our ward nor I was asked to sign anything related to treatment. They want to push through cleanings because they are quick and easy, and they get great reimbursement rates with insurance. They completely ignored her medical needs and disregarded their responsibility. This was an ethical and professional failure and disregard.
