They promised the world and left me complaining about fraudulently stealing my money and not returning it! They say yes we can fix everything! They don't say we don't want to tell you your insurance will no longer be accepted after the new year. Or Here's all the phases to be done for you but we'll knock out these expensive ones first instead of these cavities that are not yet too bothersome! Or You can't have anymore work done cause you're at max with insurance. That includes regular cleanings for the remainder of the year. Or We have a "credit" that just happened to show up so you can get more work done now but it has to be done before the year ends! Or Yes there's a check for you but I can't confirm it in any manner! That "credit" is my cash i paid out of pocket! It's been six days since I've posted this knowing the owner of such an established business has viewed and commented on other people's reviews. Played phone tag for a while with them when they called to confirm my son's appointment. However I called back same day and left a message and they would call back days later, never referencing my voicemail. When we finally connected they confirmed appointment but right before we hung up they told me that they no longer have pediatric dentist and we would need to cancel. Told me they would not be getting another. This was 1 week before the scheduled appointment. Its hard to schedule pediatric dentists appointments in the first place, but now I would have to go somewhere as a new patient and be put at the bottom of their list. It would have been nice to receive a recommendation of another pedi dentist in the area but what I got was basically "no pedi dentist we will have to cancel, sorry" At the bare minimum they should have called us when the pedi dentist left to give us more time to schedule something somewhere else. read more

HORRIBLY HORRIBLE experience. Beware of negligence and malpractice! I have been managing medical practices for 20 years and have never encountered such incompetence in my life! Everyone from the receptionist, to the office manager and finally the doctor are incompetent and do not care one bit about the well being of their patients. My husband came in for a root canal and a crown (a temporary one was used to begin with). When my husband went back to have the permanent crown placed (he had already taken time off from work, driven to the office and waited and extended period of time) he was told that they did not have the crown and he would need to come back. My husband then came back a 2nd time. Unfortunately, "the lab" made the WRONG crown and my husband was told that he would have to come back, AGAIN. My husband had to then come came back for a 3rd time, while he was sitting in the exam chair the dentist lost the crown. She even accused my husband of swallowing it. After 2 hours of looking she found it in her lab coat pocket. My husband had to then wait and additional extended period of time for them to sterilize the crown so that it could permanently be placed. Unfortunately, the crown was not placed correctly and now due to their negligence and malpractice my husband is in excruciating pain and now has to have the tooth pulled. My husband and I brought this to the office manager's attention and she made absolutely no attempt to try to make this situation right. read more

NEVER GOING BACK. I gave this location numerous chances (including poor crown placement and four hour visits) However, I no longer plan to go back. During today's visit one of the staff members (I believe dental hygienist) not even a dentist stated that due to my "purple" gums and poor dental hygiene I should not attempt to get braces. Her exact words "you are just asking for trouble" by placing braces. She described my gums as sand and stated my teeth would fall of with the placement of braces. She felt the need to provide this information as she assisted the dentist with the fitting of my crown. I would just like to point out that I've had a full evaluation performed on my teeth by two board certified orthodontists at two different practices (NOT Southern Dental). Each orthodontist have agreed with the placement of braces. I plan to proceed with my suggested orthodontic treatment and will seek an alternate dental practice for routine dental care. For the sake of other patients, I hope Southern Dental commits to hiring better staff members. By the way, I do not know the dental hygienist name as she failed to introduce herself during the entire visit. However, you may be able to identify her as she has a distinctly noticeable set of sideburns and facial hair. She also presents a disinterested attitude and sour face. read more

First visit and was epecting maybe one or two theeth being removed. They took ou 14 theeth on my first visit. On top of that I only got bottom of the line Tyalnol painkillers. Then after a year of waiting for aull upper dentures I can't even chew my food and they flaat out hurt to eat anything because they don't even line up . I actually was able to chew better with the only front tooth left in my mouth they wanted to remove also. Plus the dentures hurt like hell.. DO NOT SIGN anything until all work has been completed! I signed for four crowns that looked great, but then the incompetent dentist, Dr. Jama, glued a front crown in crooked! I complained and was repeatedly told, "You signed". Stupid me for signing before they were glued in but who would have guessed a dentist would glue in a crown crooked! Because of this the other crown did not fit. Now I have two front crowns in different shapes and shades! I have fought with the credit card company and office manager for months. SCAMMMMMM! They wanted me to do a "special cleaning" because I apparently have gingivitis, which I do not. They would not do the regular cleaning, which I am covered for, because I had to do the special one. Then when the dental assistant came in to talk to me, she pointed to this horrible picture of gingivitis and didn't even realize she was pointing at the second worst one and said "this is you" ... um NO BRO! then she asked when I was paid so I would come in and do the cleaning. This isn't the fanciest office I've ever been to, but I've never had a complaint about the care I received there. My favorite thing about the office is that they don't in my experience recommend procedures you don't need. (such as crowns instead of fillings, etc.) Also, if you don't have dental insurance, they will work with you on financing and payment plans. EDITED TO ADD: I have downgraded the rating after several prolonged waits way past when my appointment was scheduled. The last time I waited for over 90 minutes past when I was supposed to be seen, and I finally got up and walked out. I no longer go to this office although I do still use a different Southern Dental location (which seems to do a much better job of scheduling appointments since I've never waited for more than 20 minutes there.) read more

The only reason I'm even giving one star is because I don't think 0 stars is an option. This was the worst experience of my life. First of all, when I went for my appointment, it took them twenty minutes past my appointment time to take me back. Apparently they'd had a power outage earlier in the day that set their schedule back--information they did NOT share with me upon check-in. Instead, they told me when it had been twenty minutes past my appointment time and I asked when I'd be seen. They didn't give me an option to reschedule to another day. They just let me sit and wait. Then when I was finally taken back, I was taken to a room and seen by at least four different people, with wait times between each one. I sat and waited for 30 minutes for one person, they came and looked at my teeth, then they left and I waited another 30 minutes for the next person. So on and so forth. I was there for over 2 hours when all they'd done was give me a quick dental exam. Then the woman from billing comes to give me an estimate on my cleaning. OVER $800. FOR A CLEANING. I told her my dental insurance covers a free exam and free cleaning and there was no way I'd be paying that. She said because my teeth are apparently "so bad," (even though every person who'd come into the room to check them thus far told me they were in pretty great shape except for ONE cavity), I'd need a "deep cleaning." I said no thank you, just give me the simple free cleaning my insurance will pay for. SHE REFUSED. She said they wouldn't do it because it would "cause further harm." How does a teeth cleaning cause further harm to my teeth? If they way they're cleaning causes harm, I don't want them anywhere near my teeth anyway. So I left and I decided that was that. It was a horrible experience and I'd never go back to this place again. EXCEPT they sent me a bill for $107 for my dental exam. So I called them first thing Monday morning to ask why I was being billed when my insurance covers it--(I called my insurance to double check and they said they did cover it). I was on hold for 30 minutes without ever having spoken to a live person. The third time I called, I finally got through to someone, and she put me on hold another 5 minutes, then came back to tell me the office was closed this Monday because they'd been open on Saturday. Word to the wise, Southern Dental Heights: If you're going to close on alternating Mondays when you open on Saturdays, ADD THAT INFORMATION TO YOUR OPERATING HOURS ON YOUR WEBSITE. This is by far the absolute WORST customer service experience of my life and if I could shut this place down I'd do it in a heartbeat. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! I was in a rush to get my teeth cleaned last year so I didn't do my research in finding a good dentist. First off, it seems nice in the office but when you get to the back, it's a whole other jungle. I was led by the staff (who by the way, do NOT look professional and their uniforms were dirty) to get my teeth x-rayed. They hid behind a wooden wall that they had to cover while I was getting x-rayed. This part was GHETTO! The dentist was nice and legit. But the worse part was going to the dental hygienist. First, they didn't even have one ready for me, it took a while for another one to come in. I get led into another room and this dental hygienist is HORRIBLE!! She wasn't even gentle when cleaning my teeth. i felt that she was literally scraping against my teeth as I tasted blood in my mouth. Another thing was her flossing! It hurt so much that I was not happy with how she was handling her customer's mouth. I was in pain, and towards the end, she stuck the water sucker down my throat that I choked and got upset and just had it! I was done with her service, and I vowed never to come back here again. I had a terrible experience here. I came in on a Saturday afternoon due to terrible tooth pain. They got me in quite quick, but then I was there for an hour and a half and left with no solution for my tooth pain. The dentist talked to me about his experiences at Texas A&M, his rugby experiences, and more all while I was sitting there in pain waiting for him to fix my tooth. He finally told me that it could be a fractured tooth, it could be because I have a chip in my tooth, and a few more reasons but sent me home and told me to take ibuprofen. Here I am on Monday not able to sleep because I am in such terrible pain. The dentist also coughed in his hand, didn't wash it, put a glove on and put his fingers in my mouth. I always find my self waiting for an extremely log time. I show up at 755 am and talk to the front desk and then I wait. Around 8:15 the staff starts to roll in one by one. Then the banter begins, "hey girl how did it go" "did you bring those tacos?" I don't feel like being here today" honestly, these are things being said 10' away from me. In the mean time I have been sitting here for 45 minutes and I was the first apt of the day. I feel the staff is okay but not really focused on what their job actually is. When you do make it back to the chair the wait starts all over again. It's not all bad, I will give it to the finance people, they break everything down and explain how much you will pay and offer you options. But over all I feel this establishment could be improved. Apparently, appointment times are merely an idea, rather than an expectation. I have an extremely busy work schedule, so early morning is the only time I can see the dentist. Since Southern Dental is not far from my house, I thought I'd give them a shot. My appointment was scheduled at 7:00 AM, and I arrived a few minutes early, but no one was on site. After calling twice and waiting around for a while, the receptionist strolls up around 7:15 AM with her coffee in hand, and then opens the door. I walked in after the door was opened and the receptionist acts surprised that I was even there. She then proceeded to ask who I was and if I had an appointment. I told her yes, my appointment was scheduled for 7:00 AM, I booked online 10 days ago, responded to two confirmation emails and received a confirmation call from your office YESTERDAY. To make matters worse, the dentist wasn't even there! The receptionist said, "Oh, she typically comes into the office at around 8:00ish", and I asked "Then why was 7:00 AM even an option if the dentist doesn't show up until 8:00?"...blank stare... she also told me that even if the dentist was there, she couldn't/wouldn't do my cleaning because the hygienist typically does that. My first thought "Where the heck is she?!" The receptionist was a "nice lady", but she and Southern Dental totally whiffed on this experience. The appointment times are not really honored- i still sat and waited for a while (40+ minutes) only for them to come back and tell me that I need a special cleaning that will cost thousands when that wasn't even an issue a few months before during my last cleaning! If I could give zero stars for the rating, believe me, I would. It's true, the office is not the fanciest. I overlooked the fact that the building used to home a Circle K/ 7-11 and trudged on. In hindsight, that was a big mistake. I had the first appointment of the day. The dentist and hygienist were not even in yet. I had to wait 45 minutes after having xrays taken. While I was sitting there, a disheveled man walks in and hands his dentures to the receptionist. I know that's not their fault but they did not ask him to leave when he started harassing those of us waiting. The dentist saw two other patients that had not been waiting as long before me. I could hear the myriad of procedures they needed done and braced myself for my own examination. I was told I had 6 cavities. 6. (2 other dentists I consulted told me 3 cavities) Most adults that floss and brush regularly do not get 6 cavities. I am fastidious about flossing and brushing and always rinse with fluoride so I found that really hard to believe. But whatever, I needed my teeth cleaned. They boast that they will clean on your first visit. At this point, I had waited over 2 hours and had to be at work so I said I would reschedule. Mistake #2 is rescheduling with Southern Dental Associates. If you call, you go to a call center. The call center schedules you for your location. I made sure to get the earliest appointment again. When I showed up, the receptionist asked me, "Do you have an appointment?" I did. She pulls me up and said, "Our hygienist does not even come in until 9am." I tell her there must be a mistake, I scheduled this a week in advance. She tells me the "Call center don't know nothin'..." I've never been to any other locations but I would stay away. Do not read all the bad reviews and think, "Oh, that's a isolated incident" because I can tell you, it's not. My husband had poor service and a filling he received gave him pain for nearly 6 months. The dentist however, came into the room wearing a doctor's mask and never took it off! So I have no idea what she looks like and I couldn't even understand what she said her name was. I've never been to a dentist with worse bedside manner. She barely spoke to me at all. Here's what really got my goat...I had originally called and wanted to schedule a routine cleaning. Well, since I had never been to that office before, I couldn't do that. I had to schedule an exam THEN they would decide what kind of cleaning I'd need. Are there different kinds? So I go in for my "exam" and when the dentist is done being rude and not talking to me, the hygienist guy tells me I need two separate "cleanings"...a scaling AND a polishing. I said I didn't know what a scaling was and he went on to explain something about deposits that needed to be removed...and I cut him off right there and said "hold up...do you mean tartar-scraping?". He said yes and said it would be a separate appointment...to scrape my tartar. THEN, he sent in the "financial" guy. The "financial" guy, with his goatee and pleated pants, proceeds to tell me that my insurance won't cover the "scaling" aka "tartar-scraping" and that it'll be $90. I refused. No way I'm paying $90 for something that should be included in a regular cleaning. He coolly responded "well I'm sorry we couldn't help you here today." And now they refuse to clean my teeth unless I pay $90 to have my tartar scraped. Oh and by the way, I called my insurance and "scaling" is included in my plan...so basically pleated-pants-financial guy was just trying to scam me out of $90. AVOID THIS PLACE. In just a few words, don't go there. My first and only visit to Southern Dental Associates was a nightmare. I called and made an appointment a week in advance. I got to their office early and waited for about 30 minutes before anyone saw me. After my x-rays, I waited in the lobby another 15 minutes. All I wanted was a cleaning but the dentist and the finance couselor wanted me to get more expensive services that I felt I didn't need. The office staff was incompetent and tried to charge me more money than was agreed to by my insurance company. I filed a complaint with the BBB which was closed as "UNRESOLVED". Southern Dental Associates refused to apologize for their behavior. I have found a better dentist through the American Dental Care plan. And their rates are cheaper. read more

I don't think many people enjoy going to the dentist. I really hate it. I had a very traumatic experince as a child at the dentist, and have absolutely dreaded going since that time. When I came to Southern Dental, I admittingly was past due for a check-up and cleaning. But, I didn't want to deal with being lectured about it by anyone BUT the dentist. I was expecting to be lectured by the dentist. However, Dr. Morales was awesome. She was kind and gentle and professional. However, the receptionist has been a real PITA every time I've been in the office. After my first check-up, she came into the room to explain the charges I would be responsible for the work that I needed, and proceeded to ask me how long it had been since I had been to the dentist. Lady, you are not in the position to pass judgement on me and I don't appreciate a receptionist talking down to me. My second bad experience came with the same receptionist the second time I came in for a filling. On my first visit, I was asked if I wanted to do a pre-cancer screening for a cost of $33. They said they would bill it to my insurance first, but if insurance didn't cover it, I would then be responsible for the cost. Ok, fine. But, bill my insurance first. So, as soon as I come in for my second visit, the receptionist tells me I owe them $33 for the screening. I asked if they had billed my insurance and she quickly cut me off and told me that insurance never pays it, so she hadn't submitted it and I just needed to pay it. I was pretty ticked at that point, but I held my tongue and paid the fee. Interestingly enough, I got the statement in the mail from my insurance a couple weeks later and the screening WAS covered by insurance - so now I have to request a refund from the dental office. I realize $33 isn't a large sum of money, but it just annoyed me the way they handled it. Everyone else in the office has been polite and professional, so I don't really want to give this place a bad review because of one person. However, I learned recently that Dr. Morales is leaving the practice. Since she is really the reason I keep coming here, I will most likely be going somewhere else. A lot of other reviewers commented on the wait time. I never had to wait more than 10 minutes to be taken to the back/seen by the dentist. However, it hasn't exactly been busy when I have had an appointment. I was surprised by the facility itself. Very dated and while the reception/waiting area looks ok, the back with the patient rooms looks really run down. read more

I always experience a long wait here. They are usually at least 30-45 minutes behind schedule (even on weekdays), so be sure to bring a book. Ignore the jungle-esque furnishings- this place is run down. The people are nice, but not very efficient. The first time I came they didn't think, for some reason, that I would want my teeth cleaning and dentist check-up at the same time. (I didn't even know these were two different components. It had all been done seamlessly together when I was growing up.) So I ended up getting my teeth examined, then scheduling another appointment to come in for a teeth cleaning. The positive is that this place is open on Saturdays, but expect even longer waits. read more

Absolutely horrid experience all the way around. Had three crowns done there. Two of the crowns didn't seat to my gum line (poorly made) but were glued in anyway. Now I have pain anytime I eat hot or cold things. Plus, my smile is not pretty any longer. The third crown? Also made poorly and glued in, then I was told it had to be ground off and replaced... AFTER the fact! ... And this location does not offer gas--so the pain was unbearable. The "dentist" working on me was an unfriendly middle-aged lady whose teenage children kept coming in to interrupt her while she worked on me. Holy crap this was the worst experience I have ever had at a dentist. I went to them to save money. I should have gone in debt with a good dentist but I was an idiot. First let me start by saying I do not like going to the dentist office. When I first came in here it was under an emergency status. A tooth had broken, gotten infected and I was in a great deal of pain. They fit me in and I only waited 10 minutes Patrick and Dr Tracey Morals were the ones who helped me out. They both were very informative and made me feel very comfortable. I didn't feel like they were "upgrading" me or pushing me to pay more. They also worked with my payments so that I could afford the work and still eat dinner that week lol I have been back 3X thus far and I have never had a bad experience. Sometimes you do have to wait but I don't see that being an issue being they don't know the level of work they have to do until they are in your mouth. And I feel like you wait at all Drs. The front desk (younger guy with glasses and older women with short hair) are both so friendly and so compassionate. read more

The dental assistants were very professional which is why this office gets 1 star. I made a Saturday apt to get a cavity filled. When I went in I also let them again that I was there to get a cavity filled. 2 hours later I was still there. They had cleaned my teeth but had to check with the dentist at least twice to see if I would be able to get my cavity filled. It was as if no one knew anything or read my information. I was then told I would have to wait or reschedule for another appointment. Therefore, this was a complete waste of my valued Saturday. They did not perform the procedure that I requested, however they performed another procedure which I did not request. The wait time is too long. read more

Where do i begin! I had my exam after a few years, I knew I would need help. But I wasn't expecting to hear the following. She checked my teeth, finished, and looked at me with a straight face and said "ALL OF YOUR TEETH ARE GOING TO FALL OUT!" She didn't say a word else to me and walked out of the room. I was in SHOCK, and couldn't breathe. Then the financial lady showed up with a clip board telling me everything that I'll need to pay and where to sign. Not explaining why, how, where, NOTHING to let me know if I was going to be ok after given such horrible news. I left that office in tears!!! (as funny as it is now, looking back) I'm here in belief of what a "professional" was telling me. I lost 15lbs, limiting myself from eating ANYTHING i thought would help harm my teeth further. Water was my best friend. I then called back and asked for an explanation. The assistant who witnessed it all explained that I did need treatment, and that if I didn't that I'd get infections and such. -but that I wasn't going to lose all my teeth, as she eloquently put it the first time. I was set to go back for the treatment, and I decided before to switch dentist. I moved up to the woodlands where they learned of what this Dentist did to me, and THEY couldn't believe it. After my evaluation they advised me of my total cost and turns out, Southern Dental was over charging me $300.00. (pocket money?) For my future visits scheduled and with the help of my ins. I'm only paying about $400.00 out of pocket. NEVER!!!!! GO TO THIS PLACE! The front end staff have always been sweet and lovely but the DENTIST!!?!?!?!? has NO bed side manners!!!! I don't care HOW much my day gets, I would NEVERRRRR treat a human being like that. Especially when it has to do with the rest of your life. Listening to this woman say these words was like hearing someone tell you something like... "you have 3 weeks to live".... GOOD LUCK TO YOU, and DO RESEARCH before setting an appt. I'm sure this is not the only person with no heart out there. -... at least I lost 15lbs out of this experience. :) read more
