The…read morerepresentative who came to my home, Milton Hayes, arrived in an unmarked vehicle with no logos or signage to indicate he was with the company. The business card he left identifies his title as 'Preject Manager' -- an apparent misspelling of 'Project Manager' -- and lists the company name as 'Empire Construction & Renovations,' which differs from their legally registered name. Upon investigating their address -- 2075 N. Marine Blvd Ste U #321, Jacksonville, NC -- I discovered it is not a business office. It is a mailbox at a Postal Annex shipping store that Empire abandoned and went into arrears on in 2024. NC Secretary of State records also reveal that the company was administratively dissolved in December 2025 for failing to file annual reports, only reinstating five days before I first contacted them. From May 26 through June 5, I made repeated attempts to follow up on the missing estimate by text and phone with no success. A personal promise of a callback made on June 1 was never fulfilled. I have since filed reports with the Jacksonville, NC Police Department, the Better Business Bureau Scam Tracker, and the NC Attorney General's Office.

So, after having an amazing experience with Atlantic Construction & then seeing a few negative reviews here we knew we wanted to write a good one for them! With only 15 negative reviews on Google & 2 here on Yelp, & they are building, & have built, THOUSANDS of homes, that is pretty darn good when you think about it. It's certainly no where near enough negatives to keep us from choosing them as our builder when we see how little that is overall. We met Atlantic builders in March 2019 after our realtor that was listing our home at the time told us about them since we were looking & she introduced us to them. We decided to write our review now & tell people how pleased we have been with this whole group of people & how great of a job they did for us! Every one of them have been so kind, hard working & friendly from the day we chose them as our builder to even now, 3 weeks after we've moved in. These guys went over & above the normal expected work duties many times & we appreciated every bit of it! We had our home built just 3 miles away from the house we were in so it was very easy for us to drive by & watch it going up pretty much every single day! We were very excited of course! We made sure not to bother any of the workers or walk onto the property unless Josh, the Site Supervisor, was with us. We respected the workers space but it was just fun for us to drive by & see it taking shape almost daily. Josh was awesome & kept us posted on many different things. We learned quickly that the house got inspected constantly it seemed, which actually made us feel good because we knew everyone had to do their jobs right to pass each time & move on to the next step. We chose the Connie plan & absolutely love it! We bought it just by the looking at the floor plans & it's perfect for us! We have had a few small mishaps along the way but nothing terrible & nothing they weren't right on to fix! I saw someone post being upset about a broken screen on a window & honestly, as well as we know them all now & how they work, if we see something that's not right we don't even worry about it because we know they will fix it right away! A small issue here & there on the building of a whole house is normal I think. This is our 3rd home we've had built in 25 years & Atlantic has been the best so far with the smoothest transition of all. They helped us get in right before hurricane Dorian came through & we actually went through a tornado that Dorian spawned also. Went right over us! We were so happy to see that our brand new home didn't lose a shingle or a piece of siding or anything through all that. The tornado is the only thing that caused some damage on our street but our home stood strong & stayed perfect! I know this was a long review but they deserve it! I know people look at reviews like we do & some make decisions based on the reviews so we just wanted to say that we highly recommend them! We have a beautiful home & we also want to give a HUGE shout out to Josh! He is one hard worker no doubt & will take great care of you & look out for you every step of the way! They all will! I would like to add a photo because our home is so pretty but I need to take one without our cars in the way & the garage door open. Maybe I can add one later. If you're looking at these guys to build your home & your reading this, definitely do like we did & consider how little negative reviews they really have compared to how many homes they've built & are building now. Recently bought a home frome Atlantic in the TIDES END community…read more I'm to honestly list what I've seen in this home so far. 1. Exterior construction. As of now an A grade. 2. Floors ,walls,trim work an A. 3. Cabinetry. Astetically attractive. However, cheap quality , poor workmanship, water stains repaired with an overlay instead of new drawers. No show on return to repair bad repair. D grade on this one. 4. Doors. Strike plate incorrectly installed and drilled out. Couple doors won't stay closed. C grade. 5. Electrical . Missing 6 GFIs in kitchen,both bathrooms. NC state electrical code states GFIs be placed within 6 feet of any water source. This of course is a serious safety code violation. This of course gets an F grade. 6. Lawn and property preparation. The sod in has many dead spots, however, the greater issues are the complete lack of attention to properly clearing the property of buried metal fence posts and construction debris encompassing metal 6 metal fence posts,5 large framing braces, and a half bag of construction screws thus far. Obviously, this is a safety hazard to children and anyone else. A hard F grade again on this one. 7. Repair follow up. Great until the contract was signed. Afterwards, Cabinets drawers that were water damaged weren't replaced, they install crooked hastily done overlays,with no return to repair again as promised. Requests to remove the metal post sticking up 12 inches in the middle of the yard fell upon deaf ears as well. In short ,I am currently experiencing the same problems other people have listed in the negative reviews here. Thus far I can only give complaint resolution an D- Grade. I'm 1 month at this location so I'll make a list and see if the 1 year home warranty is as good as the paper it's written on. Only time will tell. In closing, I would urge people to examine the reviews listed on this site , check out many builders as their not all the same in quality, make an informed, pragmatic, choice . If their are any issues, save yourself the aggravation .make a list and hand it to an attorney, they'll get it done and save you the headache. Good luck everyone.
