Arroz con leche and mousse
Valeria S.

Mineirao has been one of my favorite and most frequented places since I moved to Cambridge / Somerville area! I was so excited to finally have a Brazilian place with groceries and other food items close by! At Mineirao you can go grocery shopping for some general groceries as well as for specialty items both Brazilian but also from other countries like El Salvador. Having been born and grown up in Bolivia with family from Brazil I grew up eating a lot of these specialty food items like the requeson and the cheese from Minas. I just love that I can get all of this and frozen açaí pulp at this store at an affordable price. I also grew up eating arroz con leche and Maracuya (passion fruit) mousse as well as the pao de queso (cuñape / cheese breads) and this place has it all!! The mousse and arroz con leche are soooo good! They are not overly sweet and just make for a nice sweet snack! The cheese breads are also amazing and really cheap, 3 for $1. Sometimes the cheese breads are a little cold but it's not a problem at all since you can just go home and heat them up and they taste as if they were freshly baked. I can't express how much I love their cheese breads!! Their coxinhas are also great and make for a more fulfilling snack since these have potato. Last but not least is their food bar which you can have there on the tables to the side or you can take away. During the weekends they make fejioada which is definitely a must! Mineirao can pretty much do it all! You pay per pound and it ends up being really affordable and the quality is superb. The fejioada is the best I've tried in Boston (though not as good as my grandmas!) hands down! Get this with some white rice, plantains, the green Brazilian lettuce like veggie that is perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the farofa. No words can explain how tasty the farofa is - I believe it has eggs. Overall Mineirao is a great place to do some regular and specialty shopping, to pass by for a fill of your Brazilian / latin@ snacks, and for a full meal!!! Love this place! One of the few I'll definitely miss when I leave Cambridge.

Brazilian food market. Traditional products and brands from Brazil with affordable prices. Try Lacta chocolates, Pilao grounded coffee, Guaraná soda and tapioca (a type of flour with hard white grains, obtained from cassava and used in cooking puddings and other dishes).

Every weekday morning, I come to this market for two things: the delicious, pressed "misto" (Portuguese ham and cheese sandwich) and a terrific smile. There's a strong spirit of hospitality here, with people who love the work, the customers, or both. There's a lot of joy in the air to complement all the products on the shelf. At lunch time, they have a self-service hotnbar packed with various meats, rice, beans, and other things, all very reasonably priced by the pound and server with the same gusto as the breakfast sandwiches (which you can order at any time).

Delicious food!

Friendly staff and yummy inexpensive deli. Their fruit doesn't do justice to Brazilian fruits though but there's Market Basket for that

i'll have to hit up the other brazilian grocery store at some point, but for a non-assuming shop, this hits the spot.

The store was clean and spacious. Plenty of good looking sausages and meats to bring home for cooking, but I came to grab some lunch. I got the prosciutto lovers and was happy with my choice. The bread was soft and a good texture. The sandwich had prosciutto, fresh mozz, basil leaves, tomatoes, and was seasoned with salt, pepper, and a drizzle of olive oil. Was it the most amazing sandwich I'd ever tasted? Nah, it was standard, but for less than $13 for a sandwich that was longer than my forearm, it was a fantastic deal. Service was speedy and the two folks who helped me out were friendly. There were two people in front of me, but I was in and out in about 5 minutes. Looking forward to trying their other sandwiches!

It is not the lack of familiarity with butchery (which I have a lot of experience with) but the better access to higher quality meats and very specific cuts. This we spoke of, this we laughed about, and a simple friendship started. He is a *very* nice individual and truly genuine to all his customers as far as I've observed each time I visit. He learns each one and responds in a unique way to them. With me, it came down to the meats. First time, I simply told him that I wanted to grill chicken and wanted to taste his take on it. He grabbed a pack of chicken leg quarters from the display case and said he'd be right back. About 5 minutes later, I received 6 massive butterflied legs exposing bone and seasoned heavily to be ready for the grill in an hour. He pulled up one of his house cured sausages to go together with the chicken. His smile in the moment sold it. Hours later, I'll just say that his take on it all was worth the visit and more after. I'm a fan and I really like the ability to order specialty cuts if I called first. I like that I can walk in and ask for something not in the display box that if he has the ingredient, would churn out in an instant (ask for really lean ground lamb and he did that on the spot). I like that he remembers people and treats them in a genuine manner every time. I love that everything is fresh and that the prices are really reasonable. And I like more than anything else the words, "my friend, where have you been? I was worried." Idris, thank you for being that butcher I needed in my life. Cheers!

There are options for AYCE as well as by weight, and if you do by weight you have to weigh everything you get at the side buffet and only get meat from the counter, so we opted for AYCE because that seemed cumbersome. The service here was friendly and attentive and as long as your token is green, the meat literally comes nonstop! I really liked their sides and salads, especially the plantains and fresh fruits. The meats were perfectly done and though they didn't really ask, all my pieces were medium/medium rare which is how I like it. The cut that was infused with garlic was really good, as were the sirloin and the chicken hearts and spicy pork sausages. Some pieces were very salty, but I'm pretty sensitive to salt. The grilled pineapple was luscious. If we didn't already have cake waiting for us at home, I would have definitely indulged in some tres leches or lime cake. They ended the meal with cooked cheese dipped in honey or guava sauce which was interesting. The fresh fruit at the salad bar was really refreshing. I probably wouldn't come back because it's just way too much meat/food for me and not my usual favorite (also rather pricey for dinner/weekends). However, my family had a great meal here and I think it's definitely a step up from fogo de chao in terms of quality and service. If you're into Brazilian steakhouses (or steak in general) I would highly recommend this place.

The picanha and the lamb were my favorite but all the cuts of meat were good. The selection from the buffet was nice. It had more options than I expected and they even brought more delicious unique breads to the table (probably to fill you up faster). Only a few seafood options but all very tasty and refreshing. I was so full by the end I didn't even have room for the pineapple or to finish the grilled cheese, let alone even consider a dessert. They also served chicken hearts at my request. The decor and setting was much more fine dining style than I expected from the outside.

It's nothing fancy, sometimes a little hard to communicate with the cashier but they are great people and have great food. The Food~ The spicy sausage is juicy and rich with a bit of a kick. The garlic and regular Picanha meat are also soft and tender. The crusty skin with the garlic and salt bits mends well with the meat. Paired together with the jasmine butter rice neutralizes the saltiness and pulls you back for more. The oxtail and soup is also very good. The warm soup with the tender oxtail paired again with the rice is the perfect combo. There wasn't a lot of vegetable options but I'm not complaining :) The Logistics~ There is plenty of parking on the street and also a public parking lot near Blanchard. A party of 4 is considered large for this place and you'll end up taking all the seats. Don't like sticking around too long and the seating area is pretty limited and not the best for private conversations.
