Not as great as NY Korean, the Bibimbop rice isn't toasted and crispy like in most stone pots, but the food is delicious, the portions are LARGE, the complimentary starter is generous, and the atmosphere is amazing. It's also pretty healthy stuff and some of the tastiest veggie dishes I've had in a long time. Please, people, give this restaurant your business. As a korean restaurant it is a great place, staff is always welcoming and decoration is nice. I usually go there to eat grilled or broiled whole fish but the problem is there's no consistency. The best thing I can say about Min Ga is that it was a comical meal and my daughter and I are still laughing about it. We are both feeling just a bit off though so we hope this is not a sign of illness to come as a result of eating there just an hour ago. The first hazard was that I ordered wine and they wanted to give me a glass from a bottle opened two weeks ago. When I tasted it and it was like vinegar, she opened a new bottle for me. That one was fizzy--like drinking soda but it was an expensive Bordeaux by the glass. It was, to say the least--turned. Then the appetizer came. It was supposed to be a vegetarian sushi type dish but it has the fake crabmeat and somehow was greasy. We ate half and decided to wait for our meal. Mistake--it went from bad to worse. But it was funny. When my daughter bit into her raw seafood over vegetable dish--she said, "Oh!" And I inquired why and she said--it is still frozen......It was--and the veggies were just salad over steamed rice--odd as it was, but with the frozen raw seafood--hardly edible. We had tried to order the broiled eel, but they were out. So we went for the broiled mackerel. It was broiled grease. The best part was the cheap lolipops that they give you at the end. We just hooted after that. So I guess if laughter is good for you--we had a great time there. But we are still hungry.. On a positive note--they couldn't have been nicer folks! read more

This place is amazing! I am only sad that I haven't been here before. At first I thought it seemed expensive, but with all the side dishes you get, and watermelon afterwards, it was worth it. I had the Bibim Guk Su, Korean noodles with veggies in a spicy sauce. I was so excited that it was actually spicy- that is a rare find in the south. My partner had the beef bulgogi combo and loved it. The multitude of side dishes that come with the meal tasted great and were fun to try. Can't wait to go back and try something else! The restaurant has a parking lot in the back and is in a cute house with airy high ceilings and dividers covered in Japanese paper. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. We went to this restaurant for lunch on a Sunday. We appreciated the selection of Korean and Japanese menu items. we were the only non-Asian family having lunch at that time, and the waitstaff was very concerned that we would not be able to handle using the chopsticks; they kept offering us forks. Very kind! I think we finally reassured them with our skills. We're fans of bibimbap, and ordered that in stone hot bowls. Our kids like Japanese tonkatsu. Our food arrived and it was absolutely delicious! First came the Korean side dishes, called banchan. They were also lovely. Several kimchi variants, potato salad, stir fried tofu, and pickled bean sprouts. All wonderful! Our luncheon dishes were delicious, the tonkatsu crispy and juicy, the bibimbap flavorful. Probably one of the best Korean restaurant in the RTP area. I have tried other places and this one got the flavor spot on. Food comes out fairly quickly and it's always on point. I am of another ethnicity and was denied service. I arrived to make a takeout order on Mother's Day. The staff saw me waiting but did not approach me for 10 minutes. When finally approached, I said I'd like to make a takeout order. The hostess then replied to me that it was Mother's Day, they were busy, and the wait would be 40 minutes. She then said sorry and walked away. Guess what? I am a mother and I was just there to pick up lunch for myself and enjoy a quiet afternoon. Staff there made it pretty clear that my business was not wanted. I wasn't there asking for a table without a reservation, nor did I indicate I was in a rush. They didn't even want to take my order. Having lived in Koreatown in LA for a year, I like to think of myself as more knowledgable than your average Durhamite when it comes to good Korean food. This is a great place to go on a cold winter night: the cozy decor and hot spicy dishes warm soul and body. But hey, we like it tin the summer, too. As many reviewers have mentioned, entrees come with 8 little dishes of traditional vegetables and pickles: kimchi, of course, and others that vary. Recently, I had the seafood hot pot, which was really delicious, full of fish and seafood in a rich, spicy broth. Some dishes can be incediary, so be wary, but this one was just right. If I have one little quiccle, it's that the entrees are likely to come before the little appetizers can be fully savored. Service overall, though, is efficient and pleasant. I was excited about visiting this restaurant after reading the reviews posted. But I was very disappointed with my dish. Bi bim bop was mediocre. Other dishes ordered by other family members were worse than mine. Kimchi stew was all watery and more like Kimchi soup. Bulgogi stew had not much bulgogi in it but all the fat floating on the top. This restaurant is not an authentic Korean restaurant but more of a fusion restaurant. I am Korean and never heard of bi bim bop with tofu. The prices were high. $12.95 for kimchi "stew", $12.95 bi bim bop and $21.95 for bulgogi stew. Clean and friendly staff but food has to be good for me to visit again. read more

This was by far the best Korean food I've had in the triangle area. I lived in Korea for years and was really impressed with the variety on the menu and the service. It was the closest to the real thing you can get here. The woman serving us was super nice and polite and very attentive. Our food came out quickly, including many side dishes - which were amazing! We had the Sundubu chigae, kimbap, and bimbimbap and it was AWESOME. We really loved this place. I will be recommending it to all my friends. Can't wait to go back! read more

Food is hit or miss depending on the day. The prices were high, and they keep getting higher. I've never gotten food poisoning here. I would not recommend going here during lunch or dinner, but in between. The waiters seem to have little to no communication skills. I looked on other reviews and it seems to me that I am not the only one who was fine with the food, but had terrible service. The waiters look so irritated if I ask for a refill, or extra napkins, or sauce. I almost felt bad, but I did wait quite a while to get the waiters attention. PROS: -food is decent and as good as it gets for Chapel Hill - extensive menu - dessert -side dishes (sometimes a bit flaky and lacks refills) CONS: - 1 mochi icecream cut up into four pieces for two dollars, when six cost about 5 dollars in stores. - Annoying music that varies from weird 70s songs to over played mainstream songs -price isn't worth the quality/taste -servers don't seem to care about the customers and are quite rude most of the time I have been there with my friends. - hot in the summer - the tables weren't wiped down or cleaned when we were seated. I wanted to try a Korean restaurant in the area since moving. Now I may have been spoiled having been many times to a Koreatown. I found the service, ambiance and decor fine. I came at a slightly off hour, so the restaurant was quiet. The food was ok - I didn't find it spicy, and I have tasted much better Korean food for half the price. If you really want to try it once and never had Korean food ever, it's an ok starter place, but there are much better Korean restaurants (though maybe not in this area). read more

yayy for authentic Korean food! I'm from Charlotte and there are very few good, AUTHENTIC korean restaurants in the area. The main thing I love about Min Ga is the assortment of kimchi/side items that comes with your meal (I had to google it, but they're called banchan.. just a fyi).The place I normally go to in Charlotte only gives you Kimchi (what a rip-off! lol). My friend and I wanted something to share to sooth my throat. My friends were cooking back at the apartment, but we just wanted a "snack" before dinner. We ordered the Kimchi soup and some rice. Despite only ordering one dish, they still brought out a full table of accompanying side dishes. The kimchi soup was VERY flavorful. It came in a hotpot, which made the dish even more delicious! This is very typical for soups in authentic Korean restaurants, but you have to understand that we just do not have authentic Korean food in Charlotte! yumm.. I miss it already! read more

In a more cosmopolitan area, the food would be a 6.5/10 - here in Chapel Hill, where it's just about the only option for Korean without going into Durham or Raleigh, it's more of a 8.5/10. Service would be a 0 anywhere in the world, though. No food is worth such laughably poor service. read more

My wife and I have been to this restaurant three times. My wife worked in Korea (and speaks Korean - We know what you say when you think we don't understand!) and was thrilled that there was a Korean restaurant close to home. I have probably spent in the neighborhood of $200 at Min Ga. I really shouldn't have. Our first two experiences were similar: good food, nice atmosphere, high prices and way under par service. Our last visit was truly something different altogether. Early evening and the place is clearly not busy. I like that. I don't like to be right next to anyone unless I have to be. The Host sat us at a tiny table a dividing wall away from a family with kids. I asked if we could sit somewhere else and he just stared at me. I guess we were sitting at the tiny table... in a completely empty restaurant. We waited a long time for a server to come by. When he finally came by, we placed our entire order (we had a lot of time to make up our minds). There we sit having a nice conversation and a beer and the host seats a couple of college girls right next to us. The place is still empty. I have to spend the rest of my night next to the two loudest girls in the the world. Pleasant night out with the wife is shot. Finally get our food and mine is terrible. Too hot to eat and bland. It took the server forever to come back and ask us how everything was. He apparently didn't care as he only returned to give us the check. I said I didn't like the meal, which I didn't eat, and he takes it away with the check and my credit card. He comes back after running the card and THEN asks if there was anything they could do for me. Ya know what? You could NOT charge me for something I didn't eat! That was a $70.00 meal. I should have left there full and happy. I did not. The bottom line is: This place is very expensive. The food is OK, but the service is truly terrible. They are very pleased to treat you well if you are a Korean student at UNC. Everyone else gets treated like garbage. They laugh at you when you pronounce things on the menu wrong. They ignore you while you're there so they can flirt with the college girls. They have an expensive clubhouse that you're not welcome in.... but your money sure is.
