I ordered the bourbon chicken and husband got the dragon and phoenix with a side of beef lo mein. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY!! I threw mine in the trash and made a sandwich. This was not the best Chinese food place I've gone to. I've had amazing luck lately with Chinese food, and unfortunately, China Wok stopped the great Chinese food cycle. I ordered the eggplant in garlic sauce. There was very little eggplant in the bowl. It was almost all other vegetables like flavorless peppers, and what I think was onions? There was also not enough sauce. Or all of the other vegetables soaked them up, and the Eggplant got nearly none. The Egg Drop soup was good, though, taking my experience from a two star to a three. My fortune cookie did not even have a fortune in it! My mom got the Sesame Chicken. Her first comment was that it had nearly no flavor. When I asked her what she would rate it, she said three stars. Placed an order for a large group and tried many different dishes. We tried the shrimp egg foo yong, which was very good and the gravy was just right. We also ordered chicken fried rice and vegetable fried rice. Both dishes were cooked well and were very moist. We also had an order of beef lo mein, and that was cooked very well. Stopped in here for lunch near one of my locations. Interior isn't much-very basic, but this was more than overcome by the friendly service and great food! I had the Kung Pow chicken with white rice and it was soooo good! Perfectly cooked, very fresh vegetables and fantastic sauce! I keep soaking it up with the ice! For a lunch portion it was huge! This is a great spot if your looking for a casual Chinese restaurant. In comparison to the other Chinese spots around the town, I prefer this place to them all. They have a terrific lunch special with very generous portions for an equally generous price. My favorite thing to get here is the sesame chicken. Although, their other stuff are equally as good if not better. The actual location is nothing too special. It is similar to any other restaurant in the area, and is very casual and chill. There is a lot of seating, and I have never had to wait to be seated. The food is actually high quality food. I've been to places where the sesame chicken was pretty much all bread, but this place is legit. The flavors are good, with nothing being too overwhelming, but still remaining flavorful enough to be satisfying. Rice is included with your entree, and complements well with the dishes. I've enjoyed this place since it opened. I usually order over the phone and miss their specials, but they always sound great. My favorite thing they make is the Singapore Angel Hair. I'm not well traveled, so I can't tell you if this is an authentic Chinese dish, I just like it. Their shrimp toast is soooo good. This review is based on take out only. My favorite entree here is the shrimp pad Thai. I have ordered a shrimp veggie dish before and the salt was just too much. The portions are HUGE and always provide me with a second meal. There is always a lot of shrimp in the meal too, which is great! Im a big fan of Chinese food and this place isn't your typical Chinese restaurant I got the kung-po chicken. When it first arrived I was in disbelief on how my plate looked. A bit of a drive from my house but most definitely worth it! I usually order the ribs & Sesame Chicken for takeout and I have never had a problem with the food or the service. Dining wise, I sit for their lunches and their portions are great for the price as they come with not only rice, but also your choice of a soup or an egg roll. The seating is simple and not too cluttered. While they can get busy during their lunch hours and during the weekends, the wait is worth it and I would suggest ordering online or calling it in. Their website is super easy to maneuver and to set up an account and ordering via phone takes 5 mins top. Love this place and the people there, I would recommend to all! read more

I have been here a few times. I always come back to this China Wok instead of the one in Carrboro on 54. Same name, different owners. The owners here are very nice. The overall environment of the restaurant is clean and spacious. The food is great. The portions are huge, and it is just a tad more pricey than I'm used to, but I think the portions justify it. I usually get the chicken and garlic sauce, but I ordered a teriyaki chickyen special last time. It was delish and I'll probably start getting that when I eat in. I also recommend the pad thai, as it is sweet, tangy, and slightly spicy. The waitresses are super nice as well, and will often check up on you if you need anything. Lunch specials are served with white or pork fried rice. You can add a wonton or eggdrop soup for 50¢, which is what I did once. It comes out to be $7.69. I live in the local area so China Wok has always been a go-to place for me and my friends. I'm vegan, so I always order their vegetable dishes. I've ordered their Mixed Vegetables w. Brown Sauce dish before but I usually always get their Vegetable Fried Rice and add $2 tofu to it (for vegans, their Vegetable Fried Rice already has no eggs in it). Their portions are very plentiful and whenever I dine in there's always enough for me to takeout the leftovers. I enjoyed the mixed vegetable dish but whenever I crave fried rice this place is my go to. I find that they don't add enough tofu for it to be worth $2 and the tofu they use is really skinny. The tofu they use is fried though, which I prefer. I've also tried their vegetable spring rolls before. They were nothing to complain about but I don't think I'd order them again. When my friends come with me and they enjoy their Kung Pao Chicken, General Tso's Chicken, and Kung Pao Chicken. I've never had a problem with their food until maybe a week ago when I ordered takeout. This is my second time getting takeout here while their dining room was closed due to the virus. The food tasted different and I only ate half of the portion they provided. I ended up feeling very sick afterwords and had a terrible stomachache that night. I am going to caution from going back here for a while but I want to note that every other time I've been here I haven't had this problem. The service here is not stellar but their employees are very fast. When I order takeout it takes around 10-15 minutes at most. I've never had a bad experience before. One time the waitress messed up one of my orders but was very apologetic and quick to fix the issue. The interior is very basic with kind of gloomy lighting but they have a ton of booth seats! Unfortunately, Chapel Hill is a place lacking in good Chinese cuisine but this place is a decent choice if your craving classic Chinese takeout. read more

Flavors are superior to any surrounding Chinese restaurants. I've never been disappointed with any dish there but my favorites are Kung Pao chicken and chicken fried rice. My standard meal is shrimp and broccoli - yes pretty boring but they do such a great job getting the broccoli cooked JUST RIGHT. Still crunchy. The food is fast, plentiful and delicious. There is a scientific phenomenon that occurs when any one person in my office has Chinese for lunch. Our senses perk. The smell makes us salivate. We start to get a rumbling in our stomachs. Never mind that the Chinese food is never really as good as it smells, nor that the Chinese-takeout-toting leader of the pack is 5 floors above your office and all of that sensation is probably just in your head, an excuse you're using to legitimize a craving for bad Chinese. So if that office happens to be :my: office, then you have a choice between Ming's and China Wok. If I'm looking for a sit-down experience where I can cozy up to my manuscript, then I opt for Ming's. But if I just want down-and-dirty lo mein to go, then it's over to the Wok (or the "salt lick" [mm, salt and tofu] as some here refer to it). If you're looking for very generic, American Chinese food, look no further. China Wok is known among the surrounding high school community for its $6.45 lunch specials (which is a recent increase from $5.95, but still a really good deal), where you can get an entree with rice and add soup or an eggroll for only 50 cents extra. To be honest, I haven't come here other than for the lunch special because I don't think the entrees here are worth normal Chinese food prices ($8-10 per) outside of lunch hours. You can take the lunch specials to go or eat in for the same price, and I've always found the service to be very succinct but efficient. In the past, I've also ordered food here in bulk and found the customer service to be very fast and accommodating. The workers here don't really try to strike up a conversation with their customers ever, but they do what they need to to get your food to you as quickly as they can, which is all that I'm really expecting when I'm ordering some fast American Chinese food for takeout. The dishes here are exactly what you would expect from a typical American Chinese food restaurant. I draw a parallel with Chinese food trucks that I frequented in Philadelphia when I went to school there - cheap food tossed with a lot of pre-made sauces on top of a bed of rice. The food isn't bad... for those people who love American Chinese food. There is quite a lot of sauce in the dishes, so they are all quite heavy. The hot and sour soup is pretty on point though; a lot of my friends come to China Wok just to satisfy their cravings of this soup. TLDR: don't expect to be blown away by the Chinese food here; cheap Americanzed Chinese food for a cheap price and fast service. read more

I've had worse Chinese food than China Wok. When going to a Chinese restaurant at a strip mall, I tend to go in with low expectations. That way either I'm not disappointed or I'm pleasantly surprised. Well, in China Wok's case, I wasn't disappointed. The service was really good but the food was just okay. The General Tso's chicken was more breading than chicken and not terribly spicy, the egg roll was more cabbage than anything else and the pork fried rice was kind of soft and mushy. It's not the worst Chinese food I've had (and not even the worst I've had out here) and, in a pinch, I'd eat here again but I won't go out of my way to do so. I'd give it two stars for food and four stars for service and end up with three. So, to repeat myself here ... I've had worse Chinese food than China Wok. read more
