If you're like me and can't live without a variety of Asian goodies like tea and crackers, your jaw is bound to drop at the sights as you walk in. Sure, the aisles are only wide enough for one person to walk through straight on, but that's a small concession for what's on offer here. Their produce section is surprisingly extensive, there's even a seafood section, and it looks like they've finally revamped the hot food next to the front entrance. The staff at checkout here are always quick and efficient, and I'm grateful they're such a decent Asian supermarket in the Capital District to complement the wonderful Kim's and Jang Tuh. They have their own parking lot and we have come close to not finding a parking space here, but there's a constant flow of people coming and going, so we've never actually not found parking.

The overall cleanliness of the store also raises some serious concern! It's really disappointing because a good Asian grocery store is hard to find in the area. But, I have issues with the place. The name is misleading. It is owned by the same people who run Tuscan Oven Pizza next door and they retained the word "Tuscan" for some reason. But, it doesn't sell anything Italian. They should change the name. Recently I stopped in on the way home from work and because we were having sandwiches for dinner I thought I could grab a quick side here. I fully expected them to not have frozen french fries in their coolers (they didn't), but when I asked if they had potato chips the woman laughed and said "No, we are a Turkish grocery store." Also it's in the same shopping center as Oliver's for brew and Northeastern Chinese for takeout... all life's necessities in one place. The selection of meat and seafood is definitely narrower than at the other market and the selection of canned goods and frozen items also seems smaller. But it's better organized so you're more likely to find what you need. (Try finding Szechuan peppercorns at the other place... I know where they are now but they're definitely not where you expect.)

The store also sells incense, big bags of spices, basmati rice, lentils, naan, some produce, frozen samosas and other related products. The frozen selection looks fairly extensive. It's not that the selection in general is necessarily bad, it's just that the store seems very disorganized right now. Most of the bags of spices are just all tossed on the same shelf and you sort of half to hunt through them, which in some cases can lead to getting curry powder and turmeric on your hands. I don't know if you've ever had experience with a leaking bag of turmeric or a spilled pile of the yellow stuff, but trust me, it stains like nobody's business. Unless you want your hands to be chartreuse, proceed with caution. That said, my main gripe with Madina isn't so much a gripe as it is a comparison. With so many larger similar stores in the area, I'm just not as likely to seek this place out - unless I discover they carry something I can't get anywhere else.
