Aloha gang! Now that I reside in a new location, I wanted to find a new auto mechanic that is trustworthy and honest. Well...thanks to my Yelp family and all of their glowing reviews, I found Minh Auto Repair. Not only is Minh a kind and gentle soul, he really cares about his customers. I wanted him to inspect my brakes and explained that my parking brake needed repair. I left my car and he told me he would call me when the car was completed. I received a call 2 hours later and was told my car was ready. He told me that my brakes were like knew and that nothing needed to be done. He took care of the parking brake and he helped me with some additional questions I had. The repair was fast and done at a reasonable rate. Well folks, I was lucky enough to find Minh and he will definitely be my new auto mechanic. Honest, Fast, Quality I tried to change my car oil and messed up by not turning the filter all the way in. The car was towed to Minh's shop. - Minh spent 5 mins explaining to me about the problem - 10 mins lifting the car and performed a CORRECT oil change for me - 7 mins inspecting if the car has any other issues. I was out of his door in 30 mins with a fully fixed car. Other shops would have charge me for a new engine, Minh charge me for an oil change. Highly recommended. read more

He is a great mechanic , very personable and fair prices and probably most importantly he is a very honest person/. mechanic( meaning he just fixes what needs to be fixed) My car had some stubborn issues and I am telling you when I picked up my car after he was done all codes were clear , the smooth acceleration and increased power was amazing .My first thought was I could literally drive this 20 year old car across the USA and back! This is the best place for your car!!! I first went to Minh Auto Repairs few years ago. I needed a second opinion. I was told by a renown car dealership that I need to have the breaks changed right away. After Minh checked my breaks he explained me and assured me they were still good. Two years fast forward and I had the same breaks changed with Minh. I needed my car oil changed. During the oil change, Minh inspected my car and expressed his concerns regarding the transmission leaking. He showed me the oil from the transmission that leaked all over the bottom of the car. I called the dealership I purchased the car from and they agreed with Minh's findings and replaced the transmission. Less than one year later during an oil change by Minh, he found the new transmission of the car leaking again. I took the car back to the dealership again and they denied this time the transmission leak. Minh inspected the car again and re-confirmed the transmission leak. I took the car back to the dealership for the second time within 2 weeks and they found the new transmission leak and fixed it. Thanks to Minh the car is running great ever since. Another time, the car started making whistling sounds. I got concerned and took the car to the nearest car shop. I was told the car needs to have front wheel barrels changed. I called Minh, he kindly accepted to see me right away, took his time to check in detail the car and explain me all the findings. Again Minh was right - there was no problem with the front wheel barrels. Several times I called Minh on his cell phone with questions regarding the car and every single time he took his time to listen to my concerns and also help me. Over the years, Minh saved me lots of time, money, and my car. Minh is very professional, knowledgeable, and patient. He enjoys what he does and is very humble. The prices are very competitive. Minh is an absolutely great and honest mechanic, who puts his customers first over his own financial interests. I came to Minh for a last minute oil change on a 2018 Honda Civic and he accommodated me despite me not checking in with him ahead of time and making an appointment near his closing time. However, he still agreed to do the oil change for me, and unlike other shops, if you bring in your own oil he can use it compared to other shops that turn you down. Me and Minh had a great conversation and he informed me on things I should look at for on my car and its future maintenance, while also telling me things I may not have to replace right away to save money. Minh is a honest hardworking mechanic who I sincerely trust to work on my car and not try to scam me or upsell me on any service I don't need. I brought my car in from UCSD, and its only about a 10-15 minute drive. I came to Minh because I thought my water pump was leaking, he convinced me to to the coolant system pressure test to see if that was the only thing leaking, and I'm glad he did because it wasn't the water pump, it was a hidden hose behind it. Do not recommend. I was quoted and charged an initial diagnosis fee $120 to explore a non-start issue. Was extremely upset that I did not purchase a $250 battery I did not need. Coincidentally, after refusing to buy the battery, I was quoted another $250 for labor hours to fix an "electrical issue" with the vehicle that was not fully disclosed in person or on my receipt. I was recommended to this shop by a good friend of mine. My 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid was having problems with acceleration and jerking. Based on what I told Nghia and his initial inspection of my vehicle, He recommended I change the transmission fluid first. He did a full flush for me and I was able to drive my car for about a month before my engine light started blinking. I immediately call Nghia and he said to bring it in even though he was already working on other clients. After diagnosing it and reading the codes further he found out that it was my coils. Unfortunately, my car has 8 of them so it was a pretty steep repair cost. I spent over $1000 but if I went to any other shop I know it would cost me a lot more. Nghia fixed my car the next day and I felt an immediate change in driving. Nghia was honest with me and said if the problem was my transmission then it would cost me $4-5k and at that point it wouldn't be worth putting money into my car. I appreciated his honesty, simple explanations and expertise more than anything. I'm happy that I took my car to Minh's and that he recommended the small fixes before telling me to swap out my entire transmission. Apparently the whole time it was my coils instead! As you may have already read in other reviews, Minh is as honest and reliable as it comes. He comes from a family of mechanics and is now making a name for himself. His prices are as fair as you'll find in SD (at the time of writing this his labor costs are 100/hr which is great value in SD). He's looking to build his business around loyal and consistent client base, not just make a quick buck off -- and it shows. He knows car repairs are expensive and that there are a lot of dishonest mechanics out there. He will tell you when you can hold off on something or if a repair isn't really needed. I've come to him for both major repairs/maintenance and oil changes in my 04 Honda including a timing belt change (and all the other things that come along with that. Over charged the part and the labor for my 2018 BMW 430i broken coolant tank hose replacement. The part was $45 in BMW part but he charged $80 (almost double) and coolant replacement also changed almost $80 ($26 * 3) which is not reasonable. The labor charge ($250) is more expensive than BMW dealer or certified shop (as per my research, it was around $150) for the same work. After I realized the estimated cost of the labor in the market, asked discount but refused. I would leave 1 star. read more

I was visiting my friend in San Diego for several days and just our luck the car my friend had broke down in the middle of the street! We were looking at places on Yelp that fixed cars in a quick and at a reasonable price. We were so lucky to find this place! [Service-go to guy]: Nick is the best guy to get the job done!! While we were there, they would let us know exactly what was the problem with the car and if there are any recommendations or potential issues to be aware of. They will usually suggest either fixing it before it gets worse, however, did not force it and understood if you decided to put it off. THAT IS A TRUE SIGN OF CARE AND HONESTY. Overall: Car shops are like dentist and it's obviously disheartening to hear further issues. Originally, we fixed it based off the other company's quote on what the problems were. I realized my car's hub baring went out --- took it to the shop, just minutes from Minh's, and they charged me A LOT higher. Called Minh and spoke to Nick - told him about my emergency situation, mind you, this was on a Saturday, and he was kind enough to let me park my car at his shop - after barely making it, and leaving it there for a couple days, until my part came in and he was able to fix it. The price they gave me was reasonable - and he even went above and beyond to give me a good price on other issues that I've been meaning to get done. BY FAR, the best "Son and Pop" mechanic shop I've been to. I've been with them since their smaller shop --- and now that they're in a larger shop, it's proof that they are a good shop and continue to grow their loyal customer base. NEVER will they pressure you to do anything your car doesn't need, and any recommendations are of your best interest - and even then - it's up to you to decide whether you want to do it or not. ALSO --- Nick originally quoted me a couple hours for the work needed to be done on my radiator replacement, and gave me a good deal on it. However, it ended up taking him more than half the day -- due to other parts needing to be removed, etc. to perform the installation. Afterwards -- he still charged me the original quote of 2hrs --- I insisted to pay him extra for the extra time - as it put them behind on other cars - and Nick respectfully declined my offer and said it was okay, it was his pleasure. Impeccable service! Literally created a Yelp account just to write this review. The inner bumper behind the front left wheel of my car was getting loose because two screws had fallen out. I was searching through yelp for a auto repair shop that I could get this fixed fairly cheaply and in the process, read stories of an individual being charged $25-$30 to get their license plate changed due to some rusty screws. I called Minh's Auto Repairs, and described my situation; he said it should be pretty easy if it was as I described, and said he potentially wouldn't even have to charge me. From the time that I pulled up to the lot, to the time that I left was literally less than 5 minutes. He added two screws to the bumper and it was easy as that.
